The Hafod is such a special place! The location is majestic and the rooms are full of character and comfort. With wonderful, welcoming staff and excellent food, this hotel is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. With Devil's Bridge at the doorstep, it was lovely to be able to wake up early to complete the waterfall hike before it got busy. Stay for the Sunday roast!

We ordered 4 differed main meals and all of them were awful! Buttered fish - dry inside, served with a spoonful of dry peas instead of mushy peas. Lamb shoulder served as pulled meat not as per menu lamb shank. Potatoes and carrots very soft and tasted like leftovers from Sunday dinner. Awful. Curry overdone with cream and extremely dry chicken and cold pita bread, not mention cold rice and they forgot to serve the extra rice we ordered. However when questioned this, they “kindly” confirmed we were not charged for extra rice but this is not a point. The most disgusting was chicken stir fry - dry chicken and vegetable soaked in dark soya sauce. Awful my child did not want to eat this at all and I don’t blame him because it tasted like cold Worcester Sauce. When I commented on this the waitress replied they always serve this like this and she cannot do anything about this. The whole dinner was the worst dinner we have ever had. This is not a place you want to spend your money. I regret now I did not complaint. The food is definitely not freshly made and it tasted like reheated leftovers from night before. This was very disappointing experience especially after amazing Devils Bridge walk. And I am very angry with myself I fed my children with this horrible food.

Booked for Sunday Lunch, the food was delicious. I’d say the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had. All the food was cooked to perfection with gigantic Yorkshire puddings. Plates were hot too which is a bonus. A family of 6 we had a selection of starters to include their Bloody Mary prawn cocktail and halloumi bites. You can then choose from Lamb, beef and pork plus a vegetarian option. Fabulous afternoon in this beautiful area.

My chicken stir fry was bland and no real flavours, the chicken was dry as was my wife's chicken in her curry, the rice was crunchy and her chicken was also burnt on the top. The food is not cheap and I expected more. The young girl serving apologised and said she would tell the chef. No managers about to deal with the complaint. ii feel nexperienced staff are being let down by the lack of managerial back up. Our table which we booked yesterday hadn't been cleaned or set and the whole experience seemed to more mirror a cheap canteen rather than a classy restaurant. Although later in the evening it seemed to book up its ideas and at least cleaned the tables. Such a shame for such a beautiful setting. Pull your finger out management this is on you.

We used the Hafod Hotel restaurant today. What a massive disappointment. When you enter through the hotel entrance it's all very impressive, that's wherein ends. Our table, which we had reserved wasn't cleaned in-between customers leaving crumbs and spills on it. We ordered food, it came, as we were eating the waitress asked us if we had reserved the table? A tad too late?. My stir-fry was bland and the only flavour was the parsley sprinkled on top. My wife's curry tasted like curry however the chicken was dry and some was actually burnt on the top. The rice was crunchy. The waitress came to clear our plates, not asking if everything OK I told her anyway. She said she would tell the chef. Who apparently said he was very sorry! When you are paying 17 quid for food it surely should be something you can enjoy ? We thrn ordered an ice cream for my little girl, but after waiting over 10 minutes we decided to call it a day and pay the bill. The hafod knows that it's the only option in the area and clearly doesn't care about the quality of the food or standards. Such a shame for a beautiful place.

This is a beautiful location and we had a great view from our room would have given 5 star but the room did get a little warm at night and the bed was slightly hard although I realise this is a personal preference and not the hotels fault, the room was nice and plenty of plugs although a second chair would have been nice so myself and my wife could sit together to enjoy the view. The food was excellent and the staff competent, polite and friendly unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side this visit but the hotel was relaxing and pleasant and the staff were very helpful in helping us enjoy our stay despite the weather, would recommend this hotel but check your weather and there aren't any local shopping facilities so take what you need and watch your speed round Wales speed traps and 20mph zones are everywhere also not the fault of the hotel but does affect the moral of the visit which by every other account was a very pleasant experience.

We booked online for dinner about 2 weeks in advance, noting we had 2 large dogs. I then rang up a few days before to check this had been picked up & I was assured it had been. However when we turned up on the night, there was no table reserved for us & there was a look of panic on the staff. They eventually cleared a small table by the door which was hardly suitable with our dogs in tow. Several dishes were off the menu so this was disappointing. Service was slow & we had to ask twice for cutlery & napkins as the food arrived before the utensils. We were going to order dessert, but no one seemed interested in taking our order, so we gave up. When the waitress came over to sort the bill, she asked what we wanted to add on for the staff, which I found rather blatant after the poor service we had had. Sadly a disappointing evening we had been looking forward to.

Booked two nights only stayed one, myself and my husband arrived at the hotel we went and dropped our bags in the room noticed the room was dark and not very airy. We had a drink and sandwich in the bar staff were friendly. Then we chilled outside before going and getting ready for our evening meal. Again staff friendly and the food was quick coming out, we were going to have a drink but there was a party and there was no where to actually sit so we took a bottle of water upstairs as there wasn’t one in the room, within a hour my husband was really poorly being sick this continued through the night. I went down at 3am after being on the phone to 111 and noticed there was no one about and the hotel door was locked. In the morning I spoke to the manager who made me feel like it wasn’t anything they had done and I said about the door and no one being downstairs to which she then showed me a small sign which stated a phone number and said someone stays in the hotel this should have been explained during check in, I decided to get my husband sorted and leave they kindly let me off paying for the second night but I had to pay for the night stayed breakfast which didn’t have and the food we had eaten. After a two night stay at The Hafod in early January, I checked out of the hotel already planning a return. From beginning to end, the staff were polite and courteous, the room was well presented, clean and with great views. The food was good, pub-grub rather than anything fancy. Evening dining is within the bar and is shared with non-residents. It can get quite boisterous and busy on weekends, leaving the small team of staff struggling at times, but they were still always polite and attentive. It would be nice if there was a residents only dining space, perhaps this is the case during high-season. Overall, a very pleasant stay and I will definitely return in the future.

We have been in this village last 3 days. We had drink on this pub Thursday and Friday night and for our last night we decided to have dinner here as well. We ordered cheese platter (you can’t get anything wrong with cheese from packet) and beef & pork meatballs- which for some reason had tumeric/ cumin seasoning in. Very overpowered by the tomato sauce. Which is very unusual for Italian dish. I had the burger. The cheddar - bear in mind £2 per slice extra - wasn’t even melt on meat. Meat was very dry, bun wasn’t toasted. Someone just send it without minimum effort with charging high end prices . The cherry on cake was my husband’s steak. Good lord help. He ordered it medium - rare . The steak looked like it’s been slapped on stone cold solid top- pan. (Definitely not grill ) , no seared at all . When young member of staff came to double check if everything is ok (bless him , he was trying the best) , my husband asked for the senior staff (lovely lady) behind the bar. I believe he explained her we are not happy. Once she came , my husband explained what was wrong with it. She apologised and took it back very professionally. Thank you for that. After few minutes she came back and basically said their chef refused to make another steak and my husband should choose something else from menu. Unfortunately after 23 years working as chef and still working as head chef in high end restaurant that was the most unprofessional and RUDE answer we both ever came a cross (I work in hospitality as well). However we still paid service charge as we did very much enjoyed drinks there every night we stayed. Perhaps more training needed in the kitchen.

Certainly this place has an advantage as being the only nearby restaurant to tourist spot Devil’s Bridge. The service is super friendly and caring, we had three different workers look after us during our lunch stop. Unfortunately we can’t say the food was as nice as the service - in addition to being overpriced, the portions are quite modest. We all felt hungry after our meal and (regrettably) then forked out more dough on dessert. Dear friends - lower your prices, increase your portion size, but keep your adorable and lovely staff!

We visited here after travelling through the lovely Elan Valley on our way to Aberystwyth. The outside is smart and there is a seating area opposite. I ordered 2 latte coffees and nearly fell on the floor when I was charged £9.50 for what turned out to be at best lukewarm drinks. The person before me had 2 pints of beer and that also cost £9.50 so to be charged the same price for two coffees was nothing short of highway robbery. We certainly won’t be calling in here again when we next visit the area. Very expensive for a disappointing drink.

The location of this hotel come restaraunt is great, but the service is probbaly some of the worst I have ever experienced. A table of french tourists beiind us had just complained it had taken almost 40 minuest to get a drink on a non-busy day, and from what we experiened, this wasn't out of the norm. The fact that the French contingent were actually staying at the hotel was even more surprising. They said they sat down at 7.30pm (4 of them) and they finaly asked for thier bill, forgoing thier desserts, at 9.30pm. Wow.if you want a good meal, served in a timely manner, or just drinks for that matter, this isn't the place for you. For what it's worth, following a quick delivery of par standard food, our drinks and desserts remained undelivered, despite 3 or 4 reminders to various members of staff. A disgruntled employee then advised us that the owner didn't really care about customer service as, and I quote, "Most peopple are tourists, passion through, who we'll never see again".I explained that I thought it was poor, and another employee stated 'You try working here mate', to which I replied 'I wouldn't' to which he replied - 'I wish I didn't!'.That about sums the place up. Good luck.

If you just wanted a drink you could sit on the wall, this was fine, I went to the outdoor serving point and asked the woman if it was okay to order some drinks and that we would sit on the wall.... she sighed but got out her pen and paper, I asked for a latte and a cold drink to be told ‘no, it’s cold drinks only, we don’t have time for that!’ - I was surprised by her rudeness and abruptness and left without ordering anything. It didn’t seem overly busy and there was no need for her rudeness

Me and my partner has been for a lovely walk around the Hafod estate with our dog, we decided to call here for food. On arrival a blonde (older) woman asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, we decided to sit outside because of the dog. She told us go and sit on any table and she will be over with some menus. (She didnt clean any table before we sat down with disinfectant) we waited over an hour to get some menus or even an order for a drink. With no luck my partner went up to find out how long until someone comes over. The woman who initially told us to sit down seen my partner and walked the other way. We then decided to leave. When back at the car i phoned the restraunt and told some young man what happened and his response to me was "sorry no table service for outside eaters" ((which i think is crazy consider all other establishments encourage table service with the covid situation) when i told him what the woman had said about sitting down and coming over, he hung up on me. This is a real shame as im sure food would have been lovely had someone bothered to actually bring us a menu.

Booked a table for 4 during the eat out to help out scheme. When we arrive there was no record of our booking, but tables were available so were fairly quickly seated. 20 minutes later we were still waiting for menus, so asked a passing staff member who gave us menus which she had just collected from another table with no attempt to clean them. The food took a further hour after ordering to arrive, the couple who arrived with us had already finished their main course by then, as had another couple who arrived after us. We decided against deserts because of the lengthy waits, for all courses. The family next to use waited over 30 minutes for starters to arrive - olives & bread, and the couple that arrived with us waited over 30 minutes for their deserts. We have had family members who have worked at the hotel and had similar experiences with poor planning and communication of shifts. slow service was also experienced on a previous visit when there were only a handful of customers to deal with, do I think this is par for the hotel. Food was generally fine when it arrived, although I ordered the local ystywth lamb which I cook at home and is melt in the mouth, but was overcooked and chewy here. it isn't a place for a quick meal. Y ffarmers at Llanfihangel remains my recommended alternative for visitors to the area.

Made the trip to Devils Bridge, as it was lunch time we decided to try our luck and get a snack, we hadn’t booked but luckily a very polite young man (sadly didn’t get his name) found us a table and we ordered some tea and sandwiches. The tea arrived minus sugar and milk but the young man who brought the tea said he’d get us some. Our food arrived but no milk and sugar so the young lady got us what we needed.I had the Posh Fish Finger which was 3 Haddock goujons on ciabatta served with salad and coleslaw and also chips. Other half had the BLTC minus the C but with all the trimmings. We were stuffed but really enjoyed our food. The same young man who found us a table took our payment and was again very polite and friendly. The only let down was the decor and the loos, clean but sadly in need of DIY, decorating and some TLC.I’m sure we’ve not been the only people who made the visit after watching Hinterland so I’m surprised that the interior of the building looked quite shabby.Hope to visit again when the train is running and would definitely call in again.

The owner/manager Nicol Gwynne showed racial bias, was aggressive, confrontational and not open to any feedback about the poor quality of food that is being served at their restaurant. Or any kind of feedback for that matter, She has responded to our complaint in person by barking in our face and storming off. And she has now responded to our detailed written complaint as "Sorry but we don't accept your complaint and please do not contact us any further". This response is very consistent with the level of customer service received from Nicol. DO NOT visit this place. If you are unlucky enough to find yourself there, you had better hope that you do not encounter any issues as the hotel will NOT be willing to assist. Please also note that the hotel is currently a building site. They will not inform you of this when you book. Nicol the owner treated me like a second-class citizen because of the colour of my skin when I advised her that the food was of poor quality. She didn't offer any replacement. She left me waiting for half an hour and then came back to say that the kitchen was closed. She left me to go hungry for the evening (for a meal that I had paid for in the booking cost), without even offering me a slice of toast. When I asked her if she would have treated me like this if I were a white male, she told me that I was "pathetic". Judging by other reviews, Nicol may have been kinder to other guests, hence proving my point about blatant discrimination. They are also taking ZERO precautions for Covid - We were given a leaflet upon check in telling us that face masks and other precautions are optional?!? They clearly do not care about their customers or staff. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

ive been to this restaurant many times and some of the reviews have shocked me as I can't believe they are taking about the same place, but everyone is entitled to their opinion so here is mine. The setting is amazing and the views are amazing regardless of the time of year. In fact Autumn is, well, wow. The restaurant has a wonderful relaxed vibe, log burner in one corner, shabby chic sofas, and dining tables and chairs in plain wooden style. If you want contemporary, you will be disappointed. It's got a unique vintage vibe, stylish without trying. The food is good, not amazing but good. I recommend the beetroot gnocchi. Portions are generous and it's reasonable. I think it is fair to say they've had some chaotic moments especially in the eat out to help out scheme this month but I think given the strain these places have been under, chill out. As for Covid 19, I have never felt unsafe there and the sanitiser is at the entrance. You go in to pay the bill and the tables are sell spaced. All round I recommend. If you only go for the views, you wont have wasted your money

Arrived at the front (outside) of restaurant reception and was kindly requested to sign the track and trace form which I felt was a good start to the evening. We were shown to our table which was more than suitably spaced from other tables. Noticed there were signs about politely reminding customers to stay socially distanced. The waiting staff were very attentive and were certainly politely keeping their distance from us. Food was very nice and even more so with the current discount. All in all an enjoyable family evening out.

Had a beautiful walk at Devi’s bridge and called for a drink . It was totally chaotic ! Staff took order 3 times . It took 40 mins to get a drink. There seemed to be plenty of staff but all looked exhausted and seemed very disorganised.

We went for late lunch on a rainy Monday afternoon. It was very busy, and the undercover outdoor tables were all full, with no apparent effort to allow distancing between them - the tables themselves were little more than 2 metres apart. The people at the next tables were within 3 feet of us on both sides. The wait staff constantly came and went within a few feet, and in and out between guests at each table, with no evidence of any effort of social distancing. There were no masks or gloves in sight. Everyone going in and out passed within a foot of the people at the tables either side of the door. One waiter came and took the salt from our table and gave it directly to another table without wiping it off. There was a notice at our table about COVID19 measures that had fingermarks all over it, and clearly had not been wiped down when the table was changed over. It said we should scan it with our smart phone or go online to register our presence for Track & Trace, but no effort was made to ensure that we did this. Since I do not have a smart phone (no point if one lives in a place with no mobile signal) I could do neither, and they did not make any effort to check, nor did they take info when they took the reservation or seated us. As a result, should the people who sat at the table 3 feet away from us fall ill, there will be no way for us to find out. When I spoke to the manager she was very defensive and said "We’re doing the best we can.". It did not appear to me that they were doing anything at all outside of the usual pre-COVID hygiene practices. Although the food was excellent - really exceptional, actually - and it was lovely to have the "Eat Out - Help Out" discount - I will not be going back anytime soon.

DISGUSTED....WE HAVE A HOLIDAY LEt NOT 2 MILES AWAY AND AFTER DOING THE CHAGE ROUND, WE FANCIED A LOVELY COOL GLASS OF WINE AND , MY HUSBAND A BEER. after taking a seat at 12.45 with our dog we were told that the seats were all reserved for people who wanted to eat. NOW....There we at least 3 tables empty , but were told that we could sit at 2 tables reserved further up ,but were on the road .We had our dog with us and we consider that part of the road dangerous as 2 way traffic there and no fence to tie the dog to. I will be advising our guests not to go there if they just want a drink. All of our guests eat there throughout their holiday, but I am now going to advise them to go to The George Borrowdale, as we did, who were much more accommodating and if fact we did stay for something to eat.As we live in the area, we feel very let down

Coming out of lockdown. Perhaps things will improve. Waited over an hour for food with no warning. Explained as several tables ordering simultaneously, a backlog in the kitchen, and a 'technical issue'. Food was generally good but soup was cold, beans were replaced with peas, kids who asked for no salad dressing or coleslaw were given coleslaw on the salad, and two drinks never came. We still enjoyed the meals once there. Staff were not physically distancing with customers or each other, were unmasked and ungloved. Tables were sometimes disinfected between customers, sometimes not, and items such as salt cellars were passed between different tables by the staff. If I were high risk, I would feel uncomfortable. It wouldn't stop me going in future but I'd have a good chat with the staff before ordering! On the plus side, they're currently doing Eat Out To Help Out giving big discounts!!

Wonderful spot in Devils Bridge, we reserved a table by the road under a canopy which was ready for us when we arrived. The food was really tasty and well cooked. The staff worked tirelessly constantly walking to and fro across the road to serve fabulous food and drink.

Wonderful food. Visited the first week post lockdown, so only serving outside and takeaway. First night we arrived in area I ordered trout- fantastic, my husband had steak which he was very happy with. Then 2 evenings later it had been poring down all day and we didn’t fancy cooking in our campervan so went for takeaway. We parked outside and had it delivered to our van, we ate in situ. I had paella and husband beef curry, both really great again. The we’re serving a very tasty well kept pint of Wye Valley beer- mmm. Very helpful friendly service. Will certainly return, also obviously popular with locals too

My partner and I visited the Hafod hotel for a meal. It was extremely busy as there was six nations on and a birthday party. Staff managed to fit us in in the restaurant area which was a lot quieter than the main bar.The food was beautifully presented, home cooked and fresh. I would highly recommend the goats cheese and beetroot gnocchi. Prices were reasonable too which is always a bonus.Despite being busy staff were welcoming, attentive and friendly. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Great place for a glass of wine by the fire when staying local. Dog friendly too! Food looked and smelt amazing but just had drinks. Possibly dogs are only allowed in the more relaxed bar area rather than restaurant

We used the Hafod hotel to provide refreshments following our mother's funeral at Cwmystwyth. The service they provided and the quality of the food was astounding. From the moment we first contacted the hotel to meeting at the location the day before the event we felt that we were really well looked after. The food and service on the day itself were fantastic and the young man in charge, Iolo, could not have been more helpful. Although we did not stay at the hotel on this occasion , we will definitely stay here in the future. The refurbishment programme which the owners are undertaking is making the whole property into a beautiful modern hotel, having been able to see some of the rooms available, we cannot wait to visit and stay at the hotel.

As this is the only establishment of this type in Devils Falls they have a captive audience and can charge what they like, my large soft dinks were £1-50 each more than an identical drink in Aberystwyth which was rather extreme to say the least. They were very busy serving Sunday lunch to mainly people that had drove there and showed very little interest to anyone that just wanted a drink.Overall the outside is very run down and the whole place looked in desperate need of a refurbishment but clearly this would cost a fortune.I won’t be returning even if I was in Devils Falls again.

I ordered the creamy salmon and courgette pasta and the pasta was very undercooked and too thick. Tiny bits of salmon and courgette in it. I had to leave most of it and I'm the type of person that doesn't like to leave food. It was just over £13 for my meal and I was dissappointed and I won't be rushing back.

Quite simply the worst food in living memory. Paid £28 pound for a mixed grill and they forgot the steak and the egg, also no steak knife. Had to eat it as I hadn’t eaten all day.
