I had to give one star as there was not a lower rating available. We ordered drinks that were brought one a a time so we decided not to order food. While paying the bar bill I mentioned that they had missed out on a food order of over £100 due to their exceptionally poor service. They even forgot how many drinks needed to be paid for.

Room was filthy: dirty mattresses - dirty carpet (found peanuts, coins, a lighter on the floor) - no soap in the bathroom (an old dispenser was located next to the toilet brush but empty!) - visible black mold in the shower cabin…all in all, horrible. It’s not a hotel but a pub with a few rooms located upstairs. Expect noise in the evening. (We were not bothered by it as it was a relatively quiet Thursday evening, but I imagine weekends are worse.) When we wanted to check out at app. 8.15 am, the place was empty and there was no staff at all. It felt weird not knowing when the staff had left during the night and for how long we had been alone on the premises. (Is that even legal? What if something had happened during the night?) No breakfast available (we knew this in advance) but also only dinner available friday and saturday, i.e. find a proper hotel to stay in.

The location is centrally located in Lampeter, various restaurants can be found within a few minutes' walk of the accommodation, and there is even a small shop with groceries opposite. Parking is available on the street. Unfortunately the WiFi didn't work at all and normal reception with a British SIM isn't great either, but the hotel fully serves its purpose for overnight stays. Cleanliness is also good as standard. It's a shame that you can't book breakfast. However, you can get it about 1-2 minutes' walk away.

Popped in for a couple of drinks after having lunch at Granny’s Kitchen across the road. Sat in the courtyard as it was a sunny day! The bar itself was a real surprise, nicely done out and a little bit ‘alternative’ with a good jukebox available and good range of drinks. Friendly barmaid. Toilets a bit dicey though, broken hand dryer exposing the internal didn’t seem particularly safe!

I have to say, this place is one to avoid. I observed someone doing a drug deal right at the table, a guy from Liverpool, judging by his accent, he didn’t even try and hide the fact either. I kid you not. I know for a fact that the manager/ tattoed guy behind the bar observed it also, as I looked at him as it was happening. Then there is just the general look of the place, it’s the sort of place you wipe your feet on the way out, not on the way in. Then there is the fact that there was no chef in to cook food, so my plan was to have food, but judging by the cleanliness of the pub, I’d wonder what the state of the kitchen was.

2 nights of no sleep. when I called Mark the contact whos number is on the informatiin at 2am, to explain my concern and say how upset I was, I was told this is a licenced pub to 3am, with rooms above! Not to call him and complain at 2am basically get on with it, he informed me that I should know its a licenced bar 'pub' his words with rooms above. I have searched all sites and cannot find any information saying this, only the it is called The Royal Oak Hotel? The information within our room clearly states Hotel not pub? The other photo i am sad to add was taken at 1.45pm in the garden where clearly patrons are enjoying themselves, there is no concern of noise, and the jukebox is blarring out. Not one staff member asked to keep the noise down. I can only stipulate how unreasonable this behaviour is. At 11pm our fire alarm went off, we got up but noone was bothered nor did there seem to be any concern this happened we were not asked to report or anything, The alarm in room 5 is hanging off the ceiling? Very dissatissfied, we are here on a business stay, very unacceptable behaviour from them. Its now 2.25am Sat morning writing this, I only hope prospect visitors to The Royal Oak Hotel read and act.

We had booked this pub as one of the few places in the area which seemed to be doing Saturday lunches. We realised, last minute, that the Wales v Switzerland football match would be on at the same time, so thought it would all get rather noisy. Luckily there was a TV in another area, where most people congregated, and, the one person in our party who is a football fan was able to sit facing the TV in the restaurant. Three of us had the all day breakfast, which was very good, with one opting for sausage, egg an chips. Service was friendly and efficient. Only downside, I did not see any hand sanitiser for customers' use.

Booked here for bank holiday weekend. On our first nights stay we were kept awake for hours into the morning by noisy customers leaving in groups from the pub below-shouting, screaming & swearing right outside the rooms windows. No member of staff came out to ask people to quieten down. How the people who live on the High Street deal with this every weekend, I feel sorry for them. We were booked for two nights and after the terrible first night we decided we could not stay another night. We spoke with the owners daughter the following day who apologised and stated we be would be refunded for both nights- 3 weeks later we are still waiting for our money back and the venue will not reply to ours or our booking companies messages and emails! This venue is rated as 3 star but most definitely is not. The room had a curtain missing from one of the windows, the crockery was chipped, the bathroom smelt badly of chip fryer fat. The carpet in the hallway stairs had come away causing me slip on it and hurting my knee. The hallway lights which are triggered by movement are so bright they lit up the room through the gaps around the door in the middle of the night. All in all not a good venue to stay at and especially for the price charged. Would not recommend to book at here at all.

It was definitely worth the twenty minute drive.Staff were polite and helpful on arrival.Menu had lots of proper pub meals, nothing too fancy or pretentious. We both ordered 8oz rump steaks with chips and they were more like 10oz in size. Ordered medium well and they were cooked perfectly - very easy to cut and no dryness at all, just so tasty. Plenty of chips too.We also ordered a side order of fried haloumi and dip and that was so tasty - huge portion so glad we shared rather than ordering one each.Prices were very reasonable and if we are ever in the area again, this will be the pub we will be going to.

We went here as part of the eat out to help out scheme. Firstly the staff had an argument in front of is about who they had booked in for tables. We ordered the food and it arrived in a polystyrene take away box rather than a plate! Firstly we were eating in the pub and secondly it's terrible for they environment. My youngest had chicken nuggets and chips off the kids menu. The only other option was sausage and chips so no idea what a child who is vegetarian would eat. The nuggets and chips were very greasy and she had two decent sized ones the rest all tiny crumbs of batter no chicken at all. Then our beef burgers arrived with one portion or onion rings even though we ordered three. Had to ask for them and pay again and he also checked what was on our burger as he had put that through wrong. All our burgers were pink inside and the bottom bun was wet and soggy from the salad. Head chef came out and we were informed they check the temperature of the meat inside to know it's safe to eat and that with rushing the bun had gone soggy. That may be but burgers shouldn't be pink like these were. He was nice and offered to cook new ones. He cooked a new one for my daughter, my partners and mine came back the same burger in a new bun. A meal out should be relaxing but this was stressful. I would never go back here again. What a waste of time and money. Awful experience. I am not someone to write reviews but this time I felt I must.

Staff on shift were great, locals massively let the place down. Saw a teenager get beat up over a singular pound last night, which was all started by the blonde girl who usually works behind the bar, who gets referred to as "Queenie". She threw abuse at me which turned a great night into a brawl. I will never ever return there. Management should watch the CCTV and reconsider who is chooses to represent their business. The results were disgusting. Multiple people beating a teenager over ONE POUND. This pound could have been debated over, but the staff had said that me and said teenager had credits left on the dukebox. The blonde girl, insisted on flirting with my friend all evening and then got her boyfriend to beat him to a pulp. She firstly introduced herself by calling me horrible names like "sket" over a singular pound that she had given her boyfriend to give to me in an attempt to get me to leave, despite the staff giving permission for us to stay and finish our songs - I was willing to give her the pound she had given us to attempt to buy us out of the Duke box, but her rudeness massively outweighed her requests. I can't believe any solid business would hire this person and happily pay them a steady wage to be on shift there. This girl needs lessons in manners, respect and person and hygiene, as the essence on scampi was lingering everywhere she went. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer my bar staff to not smell like they've done 8 rounds with something our of pirates of the Caribbean. This horrible, horrible form of a "human being" disgraces your business and let's down customers. We we're having such a great evening, which could have ended greatly, however, ended up having her and her boyfriend distributing disgusting language and behaviour which even left the staff on shift feeling helpless. What sort of person would want their workmates to be in that postion?! I am utterly repulsed by what happened and I will never return to this vile excuse of an eggshell of a buildng, fuelled by bad energies. I hope management see this and actually address the problem. This vile woman needs a talking to about customer service. ABSOLUTELY Disgusting. Woman in the picture caused all of the trouble

I returned with a friend for a trip down memory lane. A return to Lampeter to visit our old University college. Booked the Oak as it was central. The rooms have recently been refurbished and are nicely finished and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. This is a grade two listed building, so don’t expect double glazing. This is important! The pub is on the high street and although Lampeter cannot be described as a busy town, do expect noise at night. I visited on a weekday lunchtime and as I was only after a snack ordered a childrens meal - seemed to be good value for money as also included a drink. The chips were cold and when I went to pay I was charged for my meal plus the drink separately. I was told that my diet coke was from a bottle not draught (even though I had only asked for a normal diet coke at the same time as ordering my food) and so wasn't included in the meal deal. We decided on the Royal Oak after reading the reviews on trip advisor but upon entry we soon wished we hadn't.We entered the bar to be met with an extremely unfriendly bar lady who was swearing like a trooper and was very slow on serving - so slow we moved next door to the restaurant.Again v unfriendly staff - the harried looking young girl did not smile or say a word so we took our seatsd. Eventually she came over and said we were in for a wait. No hello or how are you? We asked why we had to wait as the restaurant was half full - to be told to be honest it's between xmas and the new year and the stock in the kitchen is not very good.unsurpisingly we got up and left sharpish. A word to management - if your stock, produce etc is not very good - don't open up, and if you do try and employ friendly welcoming staff. Seriously shocking experience/

Excellent lunch today (Tuesday). Extensive menu with lots of extra specials. Prices are about £3.50 to £4.50 for starters( which are huge) and about £6 to 8 for main courses which are varied and often something for every taste. Good selection of drinks. The restaurant is a separate room to the pub and is most pleasant. There is also seating in the courtyard.I believe that it is best to book if you are planning to go at weekends. I shall certainly, be back there soon.

I went in for a meal on a sunday with my boyfriend at about 2 pm, had a great meal I am a vegetarian and had an amazing salad with lovely warm bread, everything was fresh and lovely. My boyfriend had a steak which was cooked as he requested and had all the extras. After our meal we went through to the bar side, we started chatting to the locals who made us feel most at home, before we knew it it was 7 o'clock and a band where setting up to play in the pub. We had an absolutly fabulous night, we danced to live music, had great food and met a great bunch of people. The staff where such friendly, helpful people who couldnt do enough to ensure our visit was the tops. The land lady was a great too she was friendly and fun. Will definately be visiting this pub again on our next visit to wales

They were understaffed for a holiday weekend. Other than that the service was good, though wait times to order were long. I took away a full star because we came to watch the formula 1 grand prix, which they advertised on sign outside. We were enjoying the race with a couple of local people we met, then the staff turned the race off 2/3 of the way through. Switched over to a football game in the middle of the race. That was quite disappointing.

A great dog friendly pub that offers good food and massive portions. Friendly staff and a real happy local pub that is pleasantly busy but not rowdy or unwelcoming... Ideally located near to the castle and other tourist attractions.

The Hafod is such a special place! The location is majestic and the rooms are full of character and comfort. With wonderful, welcoming staff and excellent food, this hotel is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. With Devil's Bridge at the doorstep, it was lovely to be able to wake up early to complete the waterfall hike before it got busy. Stay for the Sunday roast!
