The Black Lion

18/04/2019: Recently visited this pub for a birthday supper. Our meals were first rate. The fish pie was fantastic but all meals were enjoyed by the group. The portions are impressive too. We ate in the bar, which has a welcoming feel- beer was good too.
14/04/2019: We were staying in Talley and drove past a few times in our way to Brechfa Forest, deciding to stop for dinner.

The Kings Arms

St. Ishmael, Carmarthenshire
31/03/2019: Again we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Staff friendly and efficient. Nothing too much trouble. Wide choice of dishes and ours did not disappoint. The only improvement I would recommend is that my choice of beef bourguignon would have been enhanced by a few more mushrooms and some red wine in the sauce to make it special and the appearance improved with some green veg/salad, even a spoonful of peas. But this is being picky. I thoroughly enjoyed what I was given. Will definitely be back soon.
31/03/2019: This is the 3rd time we’ve visited the king and and once again the food was out of this world. An amazing friendly welcome, hospitality was fantastic and all the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely be going back very soon.

The Butchers Arms

Llanddarog, Carmarthenshire
10/04/2019: Great Little Pub! Great Food! Great Fire! Very Welcoming Staff! Well Worth Visiting! Our Second Time As The First Was So Memorable!
06/04/2019: Went here for a 21st birthday meal last night and the warm welcome we received from the owner was amazing, going out of her way to come and get a birthday cake I had brought with me, nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were friendly, polite and efficient. The food was superlative, especially the fillet steak, which was cooked to perfection. There was a lovely homely atmosphere and I cant wait for the next celebration so we can return.

Amroth Arms Restuarant

Amroth, Pembrokeshire, <20£
13/04/2019: If you haven't been to The Amroth Arms for a while, give it a try. We have enjoyed 2 wonderful meals there this week. The interior has been given a lovely makeover and the food was wonderful, with a great choice and friendly service. Having avoided it for years, we will definitely go back next holiday. It's great to have another choice to add to The Smugglers and The New Inn.
13/04/2019: You can sit inside or outside overlooking the beach. In winter there is a fabulous fire inside. Good selection of food and drinks, food is great and the welcome is warm. Highly recommend the Amroth Arms 👍

Calon Cafe and Interiors

Carmarthen Town South, Carmarthenshire
13/04/2019: Splashed out an a meal for two at lunch time. Nice atmosphere, pleasant staff and good location. It was a little expensive for what we had...but having said that, the meal was fresh and nicely presented.
26/03/2019: Called yesterday having seen this place whilst passing through last week. Having had a lovely weekend in west Wales we decided to try this for breakfast yesterday on our way home. Staff were friendly and attentive, place was spotless and the food of quality you’d find in any well appointed cafe in London. I opted for the eggs and bacon on sourdough which was perfect, the flat white was a treat, and others in our party also commented on the brilliant presentation and quality of ingredients. I’d love another drive out just for breakfast. I’m definitely leaving with some cake next time too, they looked lush!

Blas at Fronlas

Newport, Pembrokeshire, 20-30£
17/04/2019: Quick bite of lunch while pootling about Newport. The chalkboard outside claimed a beautiful sunny and dog friendly garden out the back and they are true to their word. A really relaxing multi-level sun trap in which to enjoy some excellent food and a tasty local beer for lunch.
07/04/2019: Visited twice during a week’s holiday as food and drinks were delicious. Tried Welsh cakes at a few cafes this week but here were the best ones. Had an amazing quiche. The cheese and ham platter was great and portion sizes were good. The chocolate brownies were amazing. Dog friendly and staff and service was great.

The Golden Lion

Newport, Pembrokeshire
19/04/2019: After a short walk, we came to the Golden Lion Restaurant for dinner. The atmosphere was buzzy and chatty in the bar but more reserved in the restaurant (maybe this was only because the restaurant was much emptier than the bar). The menu looked really nice with both pub classics and fancier meals. Service was prompt and our drinks orders were taken no less than two minutes after our arrival. We did not order a starter for everyone but we did order one of the best garlic bread baguettes I have ever eaten. For the main course I ordered wholetail scampi with new potatoes, while others ordered the 'pub classic' burger, Thai vegetable curry and roasted cod. After a short wait of probably no less than 10 minutes, our food arrived. It did not arrive at the same time - there was a delay between the first two and other two meals arriving but I have seen this in many restaurants and I am sure there is a good reason (maybe that some of the food is ready to go and some isn't). My scampi was fresh, and to my delight, very high quality as the name wholetail perhaps suggests. My dad commented that the roasted cod was massively generous with two fillets rather than one. It came to pudding. I could not have any of the puddings except ice cream as I have 3 allergies and nothing could be guaranteed. I'm sure they're not to blame because presumably a very small proportion of their customers have 3 allergies. It was good ice cream though - I'm not sure but it could have been local produce. Overall it was a great gastropub dining experience and we are likely to be back.
19/04/2019: Enjoyed our last night's meal here after being recommended. The best veggie burger! My friend had the lamb shank and said it was tender and delicious. The restaurant is modern and elegant but on leaving I realised it would have been cosier and more informal to eat in the pub area which I was disappointed to miss out on. However a lovely end to a week in west wales. I recommend this pub for a really enjoyable meal, restaurant or pub.

The Forest Arms

Llanegwad, Carmarthenshire
18/03/2019: The food was good and there was plenty. The only downside was that although we had booked the gentleman that greeted and served us was adamant that we hadn't. He was rude and his attitude was that we shouldn't have been there which made the dining experience uncomfortable.
13/03/2019: We stopped in for a quick mid week pub lunch while on holiday in the area. Great food, good wine list and a lovely local beer on tap. And a warm welcome for us and our dog just to top off the experience. Highly recommended!

The Mooring

Tenby: South, Pembrokeshire
19/04/2019: Called in for breakfast a couple of times during our stay. Lovely restaurant and pleasant staff. Had the porridge on both occasions it was delicious and filling. Only regret never made time to sample the lovely cakes on offer!
19/04/2019: Went in for breakfast, good meal, excellent coffee, place very full. Discovered that Friday was the first opening night of the season and chanced my arm without booking. One table left and as I sat the waitress asked if I had reserved, er, no, sorry. I took a table in the alcove which was put there for me as it was full. Place is decorated nicely, good tables and chairs well spaced apart, nice ambience. I had spicy prawns which came with the right amount of chilli, stock and with excellent sour dough bread, lightly toasted. It was really, really good. I had ordered the tagamacchia - Italian tomato stew with mullet, squid, mussels - it was oustanding, highly recommended. Bottle of very good italian red for 18 quid, what's that, barely a 9 quid mark up - well priced, good selection of wines to match the food. Waitresses were friendly and easy going. Overhearing and listening in to comments made by fellow diners, it seems everybody loves this restaurant and very glad it had reopened for the evenings during the season (Thurday, Friday, Saturday evenings), breakfast and lunch every day, I think. The place to eat in Tenby.
