I do not cook at all when The Penny Black is open ! I feel really sorry for cafes and restaurants like this ! It's not their fault that they are unable to open up at the moment still ! The Post office is an integral part of the Burry Port community and as such will have struggled to retain their loyal clientele! Not everyone is,driven by price but as I intend to eat there 3 or 4 times a week , still, I'm very grateful that the prices are priced really realistically , as I'm single and only on my works pension, still ! Lol x Thanks for all the care the staff gave given me since moving to Burry Port/ Pembrey. South Wales. Th

Some years ago, my wife and I visited the Black Penny Coffee House in Burry Port, Carmarthenshire. What was, and still is, the homeliness of the Establishment, everyone of the Ladies who provide a service have a friendliness and efficiency of another magnitude all together. A very rare quality and combination in my experience. Coffee, is as you would expect, of a high quality and choice level. Being a Coffee House, the menus is limited to a basic provision, but what meals there are make this Establishment a very worthy visit. In particular, the three egg cheese and tomatoe omelette, is so magnificently prepared and presented, it is all but impossible to resist sampling one on all subsequent visits. It is a with great affection and respect for each and every one of the staff that I can state here, that the kindness and patience given to all customers is of the highest order. This is particularly so with those of us who are no longer young. I recommend a visit wholeheartedly.

The service was brilliant, we wanted Welsh Rarebit off the specials menu, it was sold out, we said we would choose something else, then the Lovely lady came over and said if we weren't in a rush she would make us some, it was worth the wait!! We went in again a few days later, had another fabulous meal, It was a warm day and I was very hot, the Lovely lady again saw I was suffering, she brought me out a fan, what can I say, the service was second to none!! Thank you lovely Ladies!!

During an unseasonably warm spell, at the halfway point in our coastal walk, we came upon the Penny Black coffee house and post office. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, well supported, considering the season and above all most welcoming. For a hot chocolate, mocha with cream, 2 welsh cakes and a portion of barra brith the charge of £6.20 seemed modest indeed by city and English standards. Lovely to see locals making full use of the post office facilities, several finding it quicker to visit the counter (2 serving) than to use the cash machine outside! Snacks and small meals looked varied and appetising - okay for veggies too.

We went in not knowing what to expect, (it's in the back of a post office after all) but the layout was really good, (I had to move a few chairs to get my powerchair in {but that's normal}) the staff were very accommodating and we were soon having a lovely drink of hot chocolate (for my wife) and a Late for me. We were joined by my cousin who insisted we have something to eat (toasties all round) no complaints everything was spot on. I would highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

A Monday and it's surprising how many places to eat are closed. We however found the Penny Black in Burry Port part of the Post Office. The Staff were pleasant and the food ok, I had a breakfast and my wife a toasted sandwich with a pot of tea each. I have nothing to criticise, the decor a little miss matched which can work sometimes it didn't here. The food was ok but nothing special, I noticed that regulars were served at the table and paid after eating, we had to go to the counter order and pay. Nothing wrong with that but it didn't make one feel welcome.Don't let what I say put you off it was ok, especially on a Monday, would I go again? No I'll stay home Mondays and go out Tuesdays.

Great range of food and drinks (seriously excited to see that they have the Fentimans range of soft drinks here!) and all very reasonably priced. The first time my husband and I ever “popped” into the Penny Black was back in October 2015 when on holiday and indeed we’ve been back several times since then (holiday March 2016) as we think it’s great! Each time we go there, the staff make us feel so welcome - nothing’s ever too much trouble! The service is faultless/excellent, the choices on the menu is very good as is the great selection of homemade cakes and nice coffee! The atmosphere’s brilliant, the décor’s modern, the sofas/chairs are comfortable and everywhere is very clean - what more do you want in a little café? I would definitely recommend the Penny Black to anyone visiting Burry Port - both of us cannot wait to visit this little café again when we’re next in the area which hopefully will be very soon!!

Appropriately located inside the Burry Port Post Office, Penny Black is a brand new new Coffee & Snack Bar.It is rather more upmarket in appearance & decor than your run of the mill cafeteria, serving proper coffee, baguettes, milk shakes etc...What is really good here is the breakfast - you can get bigger & cheaper elsewhere in Burry Port, but none can match this place for quality. You bet thick cut back bacon & a proper meaty pork sausage, as well as a pot of tea & real butter with the toast. My scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection as was everything else. It was well presented & there was no grease or excess fat one normally associates with british cafe breakfast - probably because the sausage & bacon are grilled. In my opinion this is the best breakfast in Burry Port. My only problem is that they stop cooking it at midday!
