Came to Abergavenny for a wander and something to eat, couldn’t decide on where to dine as we walked through the town, my wife didn’t want us to pay some of the prices of the lovely looking restaurants as we passed. So fish and chips it was and what a treat it was! Beautiful batter, perfect chips and super efficient service. Only 3 stars for atmosphere, which is a little unfair, they aren’t seeking to provide that experience. This was an every bit as good as award winning fish and chips we had recently in Anstruther Scotland. Thanks, we will be back!

Disappointed tonight. I’ve had the Chicken Tikka Masala many times, but I’m not sure what happened tonight. When I got my order, it felt like only half a dish with five small pieces of chicken. I know I used the 30% discount code on mains, but this felt like 20% of my dinner was missing. When I questioned it, the blonde girl shrugged it off, responding, “Well, I could get you another one, but it will be the same.” I’ve had this before, and it never looked like this. I’m sure I’ve used a code before. Is it part of the deal that using a discount code means getting smaller portions?

Booked a table, arrived on time, they cook fresh which is fine don’t mind a little wait. Everything was being packed up which I totally understand as was a late booking 10:15, advertised until 10:30, however after 50 minutes still hadn’t had a freshly cooked breakfast because the woman in the kitchen (which you can see from the table) had major attitude with the waitress and forgot to cook half of the breakfast. If I could have had a bowl of cereal then might have been something but it was put away. Then when I asked about the breakfast and why people that came in later had eaten and left, they said there was an issue with a poached egg pan. I’d have happily had scrambled or a fried one if they had said 30 mins earlier. Has majorly put me off and can say I won’t be coming back, will just go to Morrisons cafe next door!

We held my husband's retirement here and had a buffet. There was a good number of choices and the food was amazing as was the service. Everyone who came made comments about how lovely the food was. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend The pub on the pond. They made the experience of organising it so easy and as mentioned above, the staff were brilliant.

Stayed there last night as we had attended a wake there earlier in the day. Staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful. Had a nice light evening meal in the bar area restaurant, Rooms were nice and very clean and comfortable. Only downside was the springy floorboards, you can hear people walking back and forth in the room above, luckily I had earplugs which . Breakfast was also good value.

I mean, some people came in and ate my crisps which I had left mildly unattended, which wasn't ideal, but I WAS responsible for spilling a beer so that was on me. Besides that, the place was surprisingly nice and the staff were most pleasant. FYI there is no pavement to get there. Hey, don't shoot the messenger. UPDATE: All of the above is still relevant, in particular the thing about there not being a pavement for what can only be called 'pedestrians'. Now, the purpose of my update is a distinct downward trend over the last couple of years, culminating in an evening of disappointment and malnutrition. I want to single out certain members of staff for what social services would easily define as neglect but actually the clear reason is a lack of competition. There isn't a dreadful amount open during the week for dinner and this place has not only rested on its laurels as a result, wait, that's my only point. As it hurtles towards a future of the head chef bring the microwave, I hope everyone will rise up and just not come back. Also, bring your own mayonnaise.

A beautiful venue but just didn't live up to its reputation. Seating was uncomfortable with the seats too high for the table, the main arrived as soon as we had finished our starter, so no break and the seafood linguine was tasteless. It's hard to make this dish so bland and shells still on the prawns so no flavour. Very disappointed as it was a special occasion.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay here for my Wife's bday during middle of April just before Easter Break. We were lucky as we were the only guests staying at the hotel on our first night so we were given a free upgrade to a lovely suite on the top floor, whilst a bit of a struggle to get up there with the suitcases, it was so worth it! The view from the room simply amazing and the ensuite bathroom with bath was perfect. We had rooks nesting on the roof and it was quite nice to hear them chirping away as we have the same birds back at home in West Sussex trying to nest on our neighbors chimney every year. So it sounded like we were sleeping at home! Bed lovely and comfortable, room nice and clean, heating temp can be adjusted to your liking. Breakfast delicious, Sunday roast was lovely. Staff were all lovely so kind and friendly. We will definitely be coming back again! Until next time...
