Great little restaurant/take out. Fish was beautiful really enjoyed our lunch - and the curry sauce WOW!! Best we've had!! Kids meals great sizes too, and delicious. Definitely recommend

I recently visited The Codfather in Abergavenny and had a delightful experience. The service was lovely, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel very welcome. The fish and chips were incredibly tasty, with fantastic portions that left us more than satisfied. We chose to sit outside, which was a great decision as we could enjoy the pleasant weather while dining. One of the highlights was ogling the selection of cheesecakes on display – they all looked absolutely delicious! Overall, it was a wonderful visit, and I highly recommend The Codfather for anyone looking for a great meal in Abergavenny.

Disappointed this time around which is unfortunate as we never experienced it before. We had a portion of cod bites and small chips twice. While the fishbites were nice and my son's quarter cheeseburger the chips were not. We had waited for quite some time too and was looking forward to this little treat, which is understandable if they were cooking the bites fresh but it seems as though the chips were left standing too long whilst the cod bites were cooking and especially mine which were very dry and looked shrivelled. Shame really like I said first time it has happened.

Best fish and chips I have had in a very long time. Great size portion and a friendly couple of guys running the place. Even wrapped up the missis chips she couldn't eat, well recommended and will definitely use again

Last minute choice as we arrived in the area quite late. Had a large cod and chips, made fresh in front of me. Good quality food, portion size was a bit shy but no complaints, would visit again if in the area again !

2nd time visiting , had medium fish and small chips , was lovely and fresh and hot and plentiful considering was only the smaller portion . Did not disappoint and great price . Thankyou we will be back

Ordered food and took them over 2 hours to even deliver it. When phoned to ask about food was met with very unhelpful and very rude staff members will not be going here again. Avoid if possible.

Disgusting attitude from the staff over 2 hours for food to turn up, told to go somewhere else by staff and blocked my number, food was cold, smothered in grease and inedible. Avoid this place like the plague.

My father, boyfriend and I ordered food for delivery: 18.40. Get a "driver on way" notification at 19.55 (the time food should have arrived). My dad rings the shop at 20.15 to enquire where it is, as the app is now saying "delivered". The attitude off the guy who answered... wow... his comment to my father when he said he was disappointed was "well you don't have to order with us"... guess what, we won't!!!!! Ring again 20.25, my boyfriend this time, to a rude reply from a girl saying "it's on its way"! Finally arrives at 20.45, after the driver went the wrong way and up another mountain... needless to say chips were cold, food was warm ish. Not giving them another chance, they've failed too many times now!

Oh my god, had this fish shop for the first time tonight and it was amazing. The fish was stunning, cooked beautifully. Best fish I’ve ever tasted. The sausage and sausage and batter were spectacular, the chips were to die for and the gravy and curry was very tasty. The staff when phoning were incredibly helpful. I highly recommend this fish shop, will definitely be ordering again.

Stopped in for dinner on way back from Hay Festival. Nice seating area (both indoor and outdoor) and prompt, friendly service. Chips substantial but lacked crunch. Cod was meaty and flavourful; batter crispy enough and nice counterpoint to fish. Good selection of cold drinks and cheesecake too. 5-star hygiene rating. Overall, enjoyable (if not remarkable) meal.

Everything was really tasteless and lacked any seasoning. The curry sauce was bland, the fish was average at best. Quite possibly the worst I’ve ever had.

Very unhygienic coughed on her hands then put her hands in the batter on the fish then the other person picked up some old chips off the side and put the old chips back under the hot lamp/tray

Went there with my son who had cod and chips with curry sauce. The cod was perfect,great portion size,perfect batter and the sauce was fantastic. Amazing service.would give 5* .

Today I picked up a take away from here, unfortunately it was really disappointing. We ordered two small chips, one large fish and one jumbo sausage. The fish was lovely. The chips were very poor and half of one of the trays was actually just full of old batter bits? The other tray had some batter bits but not as many as half for sure. I’ve never experienced this before but it was really off putting. The jumbo sausage was ok - but it had three or four solid lumps in the sausage itself.

Great smiles and great laughs had by the staff up in the Codfather. Solid service and great food. Potatoes where the finest fluffy and crunchy no oily taste. The curry sauce was thick and flavours where impeccable, the cheese was made with mature cheddar which is always the best as you get a strong rich taste. Solid 8.9/10.

Staff and atmosphere of the shop are great, very friendly and kind and engage in conversation with you. Was a little disappointed at the fish as it felt like it wasn’t really crispy / fried well, was quite greasy and it stuck to the paper when it was unwrapped. So can say I have had better - willing to give benefit of the doubt as it was takeaway. Chips were nice enough and battered sausage had great reviews. Would give the Irish curry sauce a miss as the normal one was good enough!

Arrived today from Swansea to Abergavenny for a trip and this place looked great for lunch, it was great. I had faggotts chips and peas, gravy and I can say we weren't disappointed the food I had was so tasty I haven't had a meal out like this for a long time. Staff were lovely and helpful for directions.Would come here again, shame they don't deliver to Thanks guys.

Helen and I popped into The Codfather feeling cold,hungry and a bit like a cloudy February day as it was...We left here feeling well fed,warm and uplifted after great service, excellent Cod & chips,great music and a lovely chat to the Codfather himself 😁 Well worth a trip to Abergavenny just to call into this Gem of a chippy...now our 'go to' in Y Fenni 👌👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Total order not delivered, and chips were full of scraps and both the fish and chips were very oily...... This isn't normal?!?!

£2.90 for a cone of chips in a tray .. daylight robbery. Literally about 20 chips. Chips wasn’t too bad this time around unlike last time they seemed a day old and stale. Ah well never again that’s 2 times to many. Hello as you have replied I will respond on here. “My comments rather silly and pointless” Nope just sharing my experience. “Impressed you find time to count the number of chips you received” I didn’t waste much time counting so little chips. “Why not mention it to a member of staff who would of gladly give you more” as I said they put my chips in a box/tray which was closed until I got back to work. “As for £2.90 I’m not sure how often you go out shopping but I would suggest you do more often and check prices” I eat out regularly thanks, I just don’t like paying for a half empty box. I’m glad you’ll miss me I wish you a lovely Christmas too.

Lovely food and a nice aesthetic since the renovation! however someone who I can only presume was the boss was really talking down to one of the staff which made it very tense and uncomfortable for me and my children. It’s a shame but unlikely to come back :/

Wow !! What’s happened here. Ordered a cod and chips which was freshly cooked and 1st class. For dessert I had a cheesecake which was gorgeous. Staff were brill and polite.

Really rude, ordered a pasty and it was literally a cheap ginsters style pasty from a packet but worse with a hugely inflated price. Centre wasn’t even warm. The chips were great to be fair but the staff were very very VERY rude to all five of us and laughing about it infront of us. Enjoyed making us feel uncomfortable. Would not come again

We requested 8pm delivery and it was exactly on time, on a Saturday night too. The food was hot and delicious. Perfectly cooked chips, not greasy. Highly recommended.

My friend found the cod in batter oily apart from that the meal was lovely.

Seriously, let me think the delivery person for a great service and following instructions. I often treat myself to buy chips, especially from The chip shop. However, disappointingly, they are now placing the chips into a carton so that you cannot have that in paper experience and they are definitely smaller portions. The food was great tonight but not the usual brilliance and this is second time in a row, maybe I expect too much in my imagination.

Everything I ordered was gorgeous, especially the gravy. The chips, batter sausage and onion rings weren’t oily at all. Would definitely recommend cod father.

Went to the Codfather first then read the reviews here. Was expecting the reviews to be excellent because my food really was. Really good chips and a challenging portion size. My daughter did grumble about the cheese on her cheesy chips being a mix of mozzarella and cheddar, but looked good to me!

Fantastic fish n chip's huge portion cooked fresh.

2x Pepsi Max 330ml Can were missing from the order (the first time anything was missing from our orders). Can these be refunded or a credit applied to an account? Driver offered to come back but we declined this offer - by the time he came back we would have finished our meal.

Attitude from guy cooking food. Cod so greasy and chips nothing special but the survive was shockingly bad would not recommend and will not be going back

Walked in to to see what I assume to be the boss chummy guy with short hair stood by the till. I he looked at me with a flat pan face turned around and walked away. (Amazing way to treat people putting money in the till. ) Then a dark haired girl eventually came out from the back and asked what we wanted. I said could I have 2cod and chips one chip shop curry and one Irish curry sauce please. No reply she just went about getting the order together. Do u want salt and vinegar she asked. Yes please I replied well OMG the salt was mounded on ......... Just under £25.00 later. Took the food home started to eat it and we'll. The fish was so greasy Chips were ok I suppose apart from the overkill salt. Threw most of it away. The best part was the Irish curry sauce. ( can't really get that wrong ....... Just add water) Amazed they are still trading. This was my first and definitely my last visit here.

Always have a good welcome very well run the staff are always welcoming the food is top knotch and the potions are great definitely recommend

Bland food, rude staff. Cheap potatoes with no flavour to the chips, watered down vinegar. Lady at the till frowning like someone just stole her cat. Miserable. Odd to see so many people thought this place was good, and got friendly customer service? Forgive me, but people with coloured skin get used to different experiences in most places, especially in small town Little Britain. We said please and thank you profusely, and were polite enough to say goodbye when we left, despite having spoken to a wall. Not a single word back from the staff. Oh and its overpriced, you get better portion sizes in central London for what we paid. I guess in rural towns there is only one cowboy around and he charges what he wants! Go if you must, but there is a Morissons round the corner who can sell you oven fish and chips.

My wife and I visited the Codfather today, I ordered fish chips and beans, the girl that served us should not be involved with the public with her attitude. My beans were just warm, my wife took them back and told here this, she stuck her finger in the beans and stirred it around! They’re hot she said and threw them out, more beans were put into a paper cup and heated in a microwave for about five seconds, needless to say they were as warm as the first lot. My Wife ordered curry sauce and chips the curry was un eatable, a second visit is not on the cards.

We sat down for fish and chips shortly after opening on Sunday. Holy wow this was the best fish chips and curry sauce I've had in ages. Fantastic. Going to be back as soon as i can!

This place is a rip Off 2.90 for about 15 chips Never again The worst chips ever and the most expensive for that amount of chips Never again Day light robbery

The worst chips I’ve had in 60 years , 2 months ago had awful dry fish and soggy chips but gave it another go as everyone deserves a second chance. The chips were that soggy they were a lump of goo all stuck together and not good at all after walking just 200 yards home . Very small potion which ended up a good thing as less got thrown straight in the bin. Twice bitten I will never go there ever again

Normally we receive beautiful food from this restaurant but this time we had 3 fish, 3 portions of chips and a pie. 2 fish were okay, but 1 fish, the batter was all peeling off the bottom of the fish, and looked very undercooked, luckily the fish was cooked. We had 2 large and 1 small fish, and there was no difference in size really between the two, despite there being a marked difference in price. The chips were also anaemic, no colour at all, very pale. Disappointing as this didn't seem up to their usual standard :(

Popped in on spec one afternoon during a day out in Abergavenny. The restaurant was empty and we ordered two fish and chips meals. The fish were both large and delicious with beautiful crispy batter. The chips portions were ample and also delicious. Highly recommended.

I visited the cod father in Abergavenny on Sunday. The shop had not been open long that day but there was very little food prepared on display. I ordered large chips. The portion was the smallest large portion I have ever bought. It was also very expensive at £ 3.50. The chips were limp and very greasy altogether lacklustre. I asked for a jumbo sausage but when I found oit it was £2.60 I decided against it The cup of curry sauce was £ 1.80. The counter needed a wipe down as it was greasy and covered in salt. The server wore no tabard or uniform and came directly from eating at a table to serve me without washing her hands Quite defiantly the dearest and worst chip shop I have ever been in To be avoided.
