Great range of high quality food

Good produce and friendly staff. If you play the game with your (free) my Waitrose card it can also be very good value - I love getting my free coffee with a snack, and go into the park to enjoy them whilst reading my free newspaper :-)

Saw some great service today from a new member of staff. Wearing black as he didn't have a uniform. Chap in front of me asked for a little help so the staff member filled his bags and put them in his trolley for him. Then helped as he used his new debit card.

Not allowed take away cups and sandwiches were not very fresh

For a major concern who are more than happy to take my syndicate's £40 per week lottery spend and earn the commission on the transaction, they are unwilling to pay out a £255 win and two £87 wins on the same tickets I bought from their shop. Stores such as this one can pay out up to £500 per transaction. In order to advise them that I would be collecting (the polite thing to do, not just spring it on them), on telephoning the store to request in advance that they have enough cash in place to be able to pay me my winnings (way within the limit for a store payout), I was advised that I could do it online (which is not the case) and there was no way they would have enough cash to pay it! So basically, a large concern like Waitrose are extremely happy to take your money and earn commission on your ticket purchase but too incompetent or just lazy to pay you when you win. Abergavenny Waitrose - YOU ARE A DISGRACE

Café _ really awful experience at Abergavenny today. After ordering and paying, the young girl closed the till without giving me my change. She asked for assistance and the two of them then dithered, trying to add up my order on paper and a calculator, without success. A third person appeared and they said that I hadn't paid for jam and cream for scone, to which I replied I think I deserve it for free, by now. There were now 4 customers behind me, all waiting to be served. In the end, they said I owed them 15 pence! to which I said I wouldn't pay. I returned to my table with my purchases_ flat white, americano and a scone. I took one sip of coffee, it was like dirty dishwater, weak and not even luke warm. I returned to counter and was given another, which was warmer but still very weak. I did accept a free cinnamon swirl for my very bad experience. I won't be venturing to the café again.

Popped in after work at the hospital to get cash and some gluten free bread and a few other bits for a few days away by the seaside. Good selection of gluten free and dairy free foods. Clean staff, polite, friendly staff. It is more expensive, but I will be popping in again.

came to waitrose today 14/08/24 at 12.20 went into the cafe, auntie had a hot chocolate, cream and marshmallows, HAD A HAIR STICKING OUT OF THE CREAM, so we of course took it back, and they made a new one but the women with short blonde/ginger hair & glasses came over and basically slammed the old one on the counter “where’s the hair then” and my auntie was looking, cream was all melted my auntie says “the creams melted it was on top” the women picked up the old hot chocolate and said “ugh whatever and walked off” absolutely rude woman. wont be coming here again. been having stare downs with us since we complained. most of waitrose employees are all just stuck up cos of the brand.

Waitrose always strikes as a cut above average! The entrance is decorated and welcoming. The isle signage is accurate to save you walking every isle twice! Once to find something and again when you realise that’s the only selection! Veg, meat, fish are very greasy looking and tidy . The isle were not cluttered with their trollies but customers always will stop for a chat blocking everything up. Price wise it may be on the high but then you’ve got a wider range available. Staff were helpful polite and cheerful! Yes as one who hates shopping, not a bad experience!!

Always pleased to find a Waitrose when on holiday. Came on this by chance visiting Abergavenny. Very helpful staff.

Popped in for a few things Had everything and more

The employee at the till was having a chat with the woman in front of me who had about 25 items.. took her over 5 minutes to checkout. I had to stand there and listen to them blathering on and on and on… then I wanted to purchase an item from outside and the employee acted like they have no way to look up the product on the till. Then I stopped at the customer service desk to ask to buy it also, again they wanted me to go out and get it and bring it in. It’s 2024. You can look up items on the system and shouldn’t be forcing customers to carry large heavy items in and out of the store when they are outside already. Really outdated form of service. Get with the times.

Staff friendly (one lady even asked me did I want her to get me a trolley as was carrying a parcel and some other bits). More of an elegant feel walking around. Quality of produce/food is very good. Feel it is over-priced though for my usual budget.

Lady on the till , really couldn't be bothered and I went to buy some tempura chicken (which I handed to the girl behind the deli) that was 4 days out of date , will never use your supermarket again

Popped in quickly spur of the moment. Had a lovely toastie, hot drinks and a cake. Food was lovely, staff very helpful and the cafe was clean and tidy. Lovely fresh flowers on a few tables made it very welcoming.

Good variety although a bit pricey

Whenever I go to Waitrose in Abergavenny to purchase some fine Welsh ciders, the security guard follows me to the alcohol isle, then stands around watching me. Do I look like a barnyard animal or some sort of nerdowell? Really annoying to be profiled due to my age. This is the only shop where I have experienced this. Ever.

Almost perfect... except toilet is closed. After spend almost £100 but can't use toilet there..

Sat in the cafe. I usually really like the cafe but today the food is beyond atrocious. Asked for a breakfast bacon undercooked, mushroom not even cooked and the eggs while they've actually cooked them but cooked them so they are solid. No runny yolks on mine or my husbands food. Shocking

Really love the staff, they were very patient with my toddler having a meltdown.

Such a cold experience. The cafe is by the main door and on a morning where it was icy outside, it felt no warmer inside. People were moving tables to find a warmer spot. It felt designed to move you on quickly. Bacon rolls were disappointing - good bread rolls spoiled by poor quality bacon microwaved into a limp state. One member of our party felt it did not showcase the expected quality of Waitrose bacon.

Sadly lacking a wide range of vegan options.

Top quality food at sometimes reasonable prices

Great choice at good prices, super cafe with good choice at reasonable prices.

Just the best supermarket, we need one nearer to builth wells, or at least a delivery service please.

Incredibly poor sausage, mash and gravy - if you’re going to charge £7.50 for it, ensure it’s an adult portion - this was three mouthfuls of mash and two small sausages, not enough to feed next door’s cat! Requested a burger but they didn’t have any. Why didn’t they pop around the corner and get some from the attached shop? Or was that way too easy? Rubbish!

Waitrose Abergavenny I was surprised it's not expensive if you shop around in the store

Went to the coffee shop for breakfast and had the best bacon roll I've had in a long time. Staff were friendly and polite and the service was good. A little on the expensive side but then this is Waitrose.

Always quality shopping experience

Lovely store. Great choices. Amazing bakery. Two small issues. I tried the cafe for coffee but couldn't get one as they don't do takeaway cups. I also noticed that the baked goods in the cafe are more expensive than the stores baked goods even though they are the same.

Was charged for extra pastries that we did not have. Had to que at customer services to get the money back:-( Another visit, needed some extras. Wanted some French mustard, all other supermarkets nil stock.

The cafe had very attentive staff, hot coffee, lovely carrot cake, and a good price for the food to boot.

My local Waitrose. Not the biggest shop, but essential products here are amazing, especially fruits and veges. The fish bar sometimes makes great offers on the catch of the day and the selection of meat products are brilliant given the limited space. There's a medium size café area with a nice lunch menu. Highly recommended and the free car park doesn't have a limited parking time (at the time of writing this review)

Two staff members - the Tropicana taster stand guy looking at his phone ignoring customers, another girl walking around talking loudly on her phone about nothing work related...maybe it's me but standards have dropped..I was only there because Waitrose cancelled my delivery due to lack of staff...

An excellent store with a vast choice of (expensive) products. Still when you want a treat this is the place to go.

I liked it. Short queue at the exit and man let us in with a couple of items. We talked and mentioned that we didn't usually come Waitrose. He said

Nice store with good parking but very low on fruit and vegetables when I visited yesterday.

First time for a brekkie in here. We know Waitrose has an image of being up there as one of the poshest supermarkets but we just paid £25 for 2 brekkies- toast was extra and coffee on top. I have no problem paying top dollar for top quality but this is average/good quality for just too much money. There are so many other decent options around but lesson learnt and it wasn’t that it was bad just not VFM

Nice and big place to shop. Reasonable price too. The woman in the cheese department was ever so friendly compared to the young boy cashier who served us. He was so miserable. Smile don't cost anything when serving a customer x

Large car park. Room for large camper. Large store with good range of produce.

Lovely store. Plenty of parking. Clean and tidy. Fully loaded shelves. Disabled and baby changing facilities. Staff are very helpful and happy 😊

Supermarkets don't get much better than this! Not in Abergavenny anyway.

Not the quality you would expect from a store that charges premium prices. Worst shop I know for the shelves have wrong or misleading tickets for the goods above (or below).

Seriously too expensive.. I only use the petrol garage attached to this store.. as its a shell station.. and I only use vmax diesel..!

A very convenient shop with plenty of parking, including disabled and 'parent and child' spaces. The shop is a little expensive but this is to be expected from a Waitrose. The shop stocks a wide variety of items, including some more exotic fruits which you wouldn't usually find in a supermarket. The staff are generally very helpful and friendly.

Poor management who don’t have a clue what their staff are meant to be doing when they arrive on shift.

The store in general as lovely, however for a brand that considers itself premium, there are just a few areas that don't sit well with the status. The toilets are consistently absolutely disgusting. There is no excuse for this at all. They are filthy, poorly serviced and foul smelling. The food in the cafe is great, however the tables are always stacked up with dirty plates and very often we've had to clear and clean a table before sitting to eat. This is a problem at many Waitrose cafés, not only Abergavenny. As mentioned, otherwise delightful.

Terrible breakfast, overpriced for what we had. Wouldn’t not recommend. We enjoy breakfast and thought it would be a welcomed treat especially at waitrose! Bacon was streaky tomato’s were hard, beans cold, sausages were nice, toast cold and butter frozen, and not much love put into poached eggs! We were very disappointed. Sorry. That cost £24!!!

Haven't been to this coffee shop since lockdown, wish now we didn't bother, we all know it's a posh supermarket but expect if we have coffee there something special, well we were very disappointed, coffee quality was poor and hot chocolate seems to be made with hot water, tasteless brown water, pastry's were dried up and bland , staff need a little help with being friendly and helpful and don't forget to smile and say thank you, we won't be back.

Stopped here for breakfast. Bacon barely cooked . Eggs overcooked . Not cheap . Slow service. Morrisons up the road was better and cheaper.

Staff gave fantastic service, over and above what I expected; made me feel valued as a customer. I don't believe this would have been my experience in any other supermarket, so thank you Waitrose and Partners Abergavenny, for your care and fantastic customer service. Jane Davies

Very convenient store with a large car park and plenty of parent and child spaces. Clean and welcoming and best of all the free coffee is back! Shelves were well stocked when I visited and wasn't too busy on a Sunday afternoon. Has an adjoining petrol station so it is useful for a pitstop when travelling to see family.

Had technical issues with my Company Credit Card payment, what was supposed to be a quick 5 min pit stop on my business trip which took 15mins to sort out, none of which was due to Waitrose, it was all my end. A very big thank you to Zoe who couldn't have been more kind, understanding and extremely helpful. Great to know there's excellent and professional staff on hand when needed.

Bought two baguettes from bakery in paper wrappings for a party. Get home to find they are both completely undercooked and unfit to eat.

Nice shop with nice stuff, bit pricey but hey!

Busy supermarket, but shop in the evening and it's much more pleasant. Sadly, there are big gaps on the shelves as various lines are now hard to get, but the store does it's best to make shopping as easy as possible. Nice wide aisles, good quality produce. The staff are friendly and helpful, and you can always find someone if you need help. Tills are always manned, and the Waitrose self service tills are the best of any supermarket, proving quick and easy to use, with clear displays and staff always on standby in case of problems. A great store.

Love the shop & the staff but seems like they are under staffed recently. Hardly no stock available & came a distance to shop there, takes me approx 30 minutes.

Really lovely store ....clean fresh.....how ever I wS dissapointed with the vegetarian selection though. Not much to put on a veggie Sunday dinner...... didn't leave empty handed though . X

Very dirty shop in the freezer on the shelf food waste been there for days not good enough....loads off new staff no one no how to run a supermarket usless...and yes iv run one before ect ..so I no what iam talking about ....we would have sacked staff for leaving it so dirty...

Typical Waitrose with a nice product range. It loses a star for me because no matter how busy they are they always ensure there is a long queue at the tills, if there isn't they shut one it appears🤔

Cafe's Poor Selection. Went in for a cuppa +. Asked if anything GF to go with my coffee. Told Chicken Sandwiches, at 10.30am they weren't tempting, but there were NONE there anyway. There weren't any in store either!!! No GF food available, yet in store you sell GF bread, so could provide toast? GF crackers, so why not offer cheese and crackers? Cakes, so why not offer a cake? Very poor show when you highlight what's Vegan and Vegetarian ln the Menu! Get a separate toaster and at least offer toast please. Room for much improvement.

Nice place, conveniently positioned, lovely staff. Can't help the feeling you're being ripped off though! A few p here and there, a pound or two more on standard supermarket stuff. Come away with slight buyers remorse, but Aldi Aber is grim and Tesco's not much better, Morrisons is ok, but no gem. So I'll be back, reluctantly.

After being a Waitrose shopper for over 40years (why did I bother self scanning) I won’t ever be back. I was given a rescan and the computer said they had to check the list to see if I had stolen a bottle of wine which I literally just scanned, everyone looking at me in the shop as they go through my bill to see yes I had scanned my bottle. Absolutely joke. After spending 2hours in store and spending over £300 be nice if their computer system worked and didn’t accuse people of stealing when they haven’t. Also be aware of the self scanners taking things off without any reason, this has kept happening. The staff really didn’t care about this either, one in particular wouldn’t even listen to me, she was in fact really RUDE, just repeating “it’s the handset”. Oh well. I’m sure they won’t miss me! Just doing this review to warn others (don’t really want to help or give feedback to Waitrose after this experience) 0/10 Waitrose Abergavenny. Very sad.

The staff are always lovely unfortunately I find a high proportion of the customers to be quite rude and unpleasant to the point that I rarely ever go in there.

Just pop there once in a while, nice clean store always good selection in store.

Went for breakfast worst breakfast I’ve had in a long time. Hard poached eggs, tasteless bacon and tomatoes,and very anemic sausages. Think the toast just looked at the toaster and only toasted on one side . Last time I visit Waitrose Cafe for quite some time .

The price of my favourite items are going up in reduculous amounts, one item I have always enjoyed is the Chicken Biryani its scandalous how its increased gone up £1.30 surely that is out of order and that's just one item. I didn't buy it which spoilt my visit to your store. Diesel is coming back down in price now, make sure your products do too.

Best Waitrose I have been in for ages. Plenty of choices all round the store including non grocery items

Lovely shop, friendly helpful staff and good quality!

Fab, but slightly expensive!. Needs to be open until 10pm every night not 8-9pm most nights. Pretty decent Meat, Fish & Shellfish counters. Great selection of Booze and plenty of Premium products that you won't find in Asda Tesco & Morrisons. It's the nearest Waitrose to where I live, Cefn Coed Y Cymmer, just tNorth of Minas Tirith, where I live. Good effort, keep it up.

Great product range, friendly helpful staff. Love their new voucher scheme. Amazing offers on items you actually use.
