Wanted a place to stop and grab some food on a long journey, this place was great. Bangin ciabata and chips just what I needed!

We had spent the day at Raglan farm park and were ready for a hearty sunday lunch... 4 of us ate and drank for under £70... staff were friendly and we are glad we stopped at the ship inn this time instead of the dearer place next door where the food wasn't as good. We shall definitely return...

Absolutely not interested in serving us for food, loose dogs in the property, I have allergies so asked the owner to please move it, which he did, we sat out side to be approached by a scruffy woman who demanded we instantly moved on, what in the world is wrong with people

Only one person serving, she did her best but had to wait long for the food, which was not the best.

Lovely staff, food wasn't the best but ok just not to our taste warm ciabatta with prawn cocktail so bit sickly and mussels overwhelmed with unnecessary parmesan on cream wine and garlic sauce...fresh herbs would have worked better though that's a personal choice...

We've eaten here before fabulous food and pub . But they stop cooking at 2 o'clock. Which is a shame. We where to late last time

It's a nice pub in a lovely village. They do quite a lot for the community, which is a nice touch. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely snack for lunch. Menu was a bit restricted. I had Welsh rarebit and my significant other had flat iron. Food was excellent. Kitchen had 5 star grading. All clean and tidy. Deco was a bit mismatch. Good atmosphere for the time of day. Bar attendant very good.

This is a very nice pub and I was here with a friend of mine from London after exploring Raglan Castle. The atmosphere is very cozy with a fireplace and a nice bar area. The food was excellent and I had Welsh Rarebit for the first time. The portion was more than adequate and quite tasty. I really found this to be a wonderful pub. The only reason that I rated it very good, was the ale selections. Their sign says real cask ales, but although they had Guinness which I love, I was looking for a nice cask ale. What I ended up having was Madri, which is a lot like Modelo Especial. Apparently it is hot in the UK beer market. No where near as good as the cask ales I have experienced. Otherwise this is a great pub with great atmosphere. I my opinion, better ale would take it from very good to excellent!

We turned up just before chef was about to leave , A meal was still provided and service with a smile , nothing was too much trouble Thanks from two hungry guys

We called in here on our way to Tintern , we had a lovely breakfast , really good value for money , really tasty , service was great . We will be back . Dog friendly as well

Food is 10/10 Free car park just round the corner.

We booked a table for the rugby and then dinner. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. Good pub meals and great portions. Lovely children’s meal too. Only complaint, there was only one rose wine on offer which was disappointing. Definitely visit again.

The Apple Crumble was awful. The fresh veg were plentiful and a good variety.

We stopped here at The Ship and very glad we did! Down to earth and friendly service fantastic homemade lasagne and chips and good gammon and chips at a very reasonable price. Don’t go to the more upmarket hotel next door, they were v. stuffy & rude about offering us a hot meal as they had no room in their restaurant but wouldn’t entertain us in the bar the lounge or the garden.

Great pub, friendly staff and local people. Good beer and wine. What more can you want? Highly recommended.

Staying over for work, 3 nights. Had the viking gammon, the ship burger, loaded fries and steak, all delicious food. Staff and locals all very friendly.

We visited on a Friday lunchtime as a group of 12 bikers and caught them off guard as we ordered a range of food and drinks but the lady at front of house did very well to catch it all. We were graced by brilliant, sunny weather so sat outside on the benches by the old well which, thankfully, has a grid over it otherwise I hate to imagine how many helmets perched on the stone wall surround might have been knocked into the abyss by clumsy, middle aged men in baggy canvas motorbike kit. We were amazed at just how busy the narrow High Street was for such a small, off the main path, town/village. We did have to wait quite a while for our food and noticed that the lady who served us came back from the Nisa shop opposite with something flat wrapped in a carrier bag, my immediate thought was sliced cheese for the beans and cheese jacket potatoes a pair of us had ordered. When the food came out it was en masse, big portions on wooden platters and it all looked excellent except for the Ham, egg and chips which, rather than nice chunky slabs of hand cut ham, had 3 slices of sandwich ham with a fried egg on top, plenty of fat chips and a small salad. The sliced packet ham solved the mystery of the emergency shopping trip to Nisa. A shame as this place was well worthy pf a 5 start review if it hadn't been for that. Prices were decent at about £9 per meal and £2 per soft drink/coffee

Terrible pint of Carling, expected it to be plush inside being in an idyllic place like Raglan, but it was looking drab and dated inside. Needs to be desperately refurbished! Dogs welcome inside regardless of food being served. Expensive pint, left without finishing my pint as it tasted of yeast and line fluid.

Arrived on Saturday during bank holiday weekend, no one else inside. Great selection of food including breakfast served til 3pm. The Captain's breakfast was hearty with loads of toast. If you visit Raglan castle be sure to pop into have some food here.

Very quiet despite busy bank holiday, the tea wasnt hot, that and cake £8.45. Not a welcoming place in my experience.

Stopped here for a bite and a drink when travelling home after a few days away for work. Really lovely pub, great food (huge portions!) and very friendly staff. A firm reccomendation from me and so much nicer than the motorway services I normally stop at!

Best veggie breakfast in Wales!

Stumbled upon this cracking pub on a drive about while on holiday so stopped for a quick drink and ended up going back most nights as great atmosphere and was made to feel so welcome nothing to do with the thatchers haze at all honestly thanks to the amazing ladys behind the bar for the warm welcome to total strangers made the holiday and will look to stay more local on next trip down 👍🏻👍🏻😁

What a lovley pub, food was lush.. really enjoyed sat warming up by the wood fire. Highly recommended 👌

Had a lunch here yesterday 23rd November 2022. When we walked in it was warm and welcoming. Great food, great service comfortable table bearing in mind we had a four month old with us. We’re offered high chair, couldn’t have done more to make It a most enjoyable get together lunch. Would definitely make a return visit.

Stopped here quickly on Sunday and had the beef roast dinner - great food, lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff.

It was handy in preference to a motorway service station but being charged £60 for 4 very average open toasties, and 4 small beers, left me feeling the service station would have been a better choice.

Visited this great pub over the weekend after going to see Raglan Castle. Food was excellent and in general a great experience. I really enjoyed the chunky chips. Thank you to the two lads who serviced us, both friendly and professional. Well worth a visit here, will definitely be returning. ☺️👍

Decent food, good service. Although I think we lucked out that we arrived just after a mass of bikers had departed. Very cool old building and neat that their fireplace was originally from raglan castle

Local pub feel food good service e friendly although you get the feeling it's not well organised by the lack of direction or staff attention.

Chirpy Happy tried his best but the foods was cold and disappointing.

We stopped off for Sunday Lunch here. Great little pub with friendly service and great food. Dog friendly, tourist friendly, local friendly. 10/10 would recommend.

Lovely stop in the sunshine for brunch and a coffee. The food was great quality, fast and very reasonably priced and the coffee was fast and good quality. Their very easygoing and incredibly friendly service was excellent from the second we got there to when we had finished. Strongly recommend. Will definitely revisit.👍

We stopped by this pub on the way back from Pembrokeshire and we all cleaned our plates - probably the best sandwiches we've had 👍 - fresh and tasty, proper melt cheese and cooked beef. And lovely country chips. Friendly and considerate staff. Dogs friendly place.

Me and my partner stopped here during our travels of the country last summer, we had toured Raglan Castle and was tired and hungry, a pub close by refused service due to the time but luckily this pub wasn't far from, the staff were wonderful and welcoming, they couldn't do enough to make our visit comfortable. The food was absaloutely delicious a true taste of gwlad duw ei hun. As a tourist I would recommend a visit.

Absolutely brilliant, Friday night ..welcomed in at 10pm live music. Super friendly owner and barman. Atmosphere was amazing. A pub how it used to be and how it should be! A lot of fun if it's what you are up for 👍

Arrived as a party of four, thirsty and hungry. It was table service only and though the place seemed empty with only a couple of what looked liked regulars, we were ushered by the landlord to a grim corner of the bar. No matter, we were just keen to be refreshed. Two of our party were vegans so the first question was about eating options....this prompted a trip to kitchen to check on what they had. On return vegetarian sausage chips and peas or beans was the only option, no menu was produced for the other two but we expected this to follow. Meanwhile we ordered drinks for all four. The landlord went off to get these but we could hear he was interrupted by a call on his phone, this seemed to slow him down but about 3 or 4 minutes later two drinks arrived with a promise the other 2 would follow. A full 10 minutes later and the other drinks did not appear and no menu was yet supplied. Because of our position we could hear another call had been taken but were unable to see the landlord or make him see us. We gave in and left, leaving our 2 drinks and a fiver on the bar as we left. The landlord apologised but we were too angry to stay around. I don't think he meant to be rude, he was just totally incompetent.

Under development as a new business venture for the current landlord, most friendly and welcoming, quick hot snack foods available and a decent pint. Dog and biker friendly to boot. Needs to have minor changes and tidy up for the forth star 🌟

This pub is family and pet friendly everyone was so welcoming. A nice place for a drink and a game of pool. We didn't have food, but there were a good selection of snacks available. Kids loved the slushies too. Definitely worth a stop!!

As long as you understand what you're getting - an old school, simple pub - you'll be delighted. Simple food (we had the Sunday lunch) done well, no frills but honest grub. Lovely pint l, even lovelier staff. Toys for the kids, relaxed environment where our son could be free. We had a wonderful time, thanks to all working there

Stayed at the nearby raglan lodge with a group of friends, the plan was to get a taxi into Monmouth but that proved to be impossible so we walked into raglan to find only two pubs, we went into the ship in for some food, but the bar lady explained as we were a large group and there was only one chef we would be unable to have food, but maybe we could have pizza after 9pm if it wasn’t to busy, so we ordered drinks and sat out side, within five mins a girl came out and said the owner would cook us pizza and chips so we ordered 6 pizzas chips and onion rings all of which were lovely, as they were soNice we decided to stay the night and played some pool darts and a few tunes on the juke box, we had a fab time thank you very much to the owners of the ship inn xx
