This is such a great pub. Decent food. Friendly service. Lovely building. Cosy in winter and loads of space in summer. Walked to the pub for lunch and it was great. A shame they don't do Wye Valley Nightjar any more - a much better stout than Guinness and local.

The Boat, a gorgeous little pub along the river, is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the stunning setting. You can tell it’s really well managed by a very friendly bar manager, which adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're stopping in for a drink or a meal, it’s a lovely place to unwind by the water.

Great little pub on the edge of the river. Stopped here halfway through a 35km cycle from the forest for a pint. Two of us shared a tuna sandwich which was a perfect lunch for us. It comes with chips and a salad so would be a bit heavy to continue the ride but it was a generous filling and delicious. Beautiful views and welcoming, friendly staff.

Attended with my family yesterday. Brought drinks and asked about food. I was told by a member of staff that he was not taking any food orders for 45 minutes. Fair enough it was bank holiday. Five minutes later the very same person handed a menu to a customer. Understandably I challenged it. I was told he had been waiting 45 minutes. So they were taking food orders!! When I asked how do you know? He advised it was in his head!! He then accused me of being lairy!! I promised I never raised my voice. He may need to understand how serving someone immediately after refusing me service may look but could not comprehend it as in "his head" he was doing brilliantly Really poor customer service from a pub in beautiful setting. Could have and should have been handled differently

Having parked up in Redbrook, England in our campervan, we crossed the River Wye into wonderful Wales. This cute pretty pub has both excellent hearty food at great prices ( charcuterie of meat and cheese, baked Camembert plus chips) more than enough for two of us. Sat in the garden looking across the river towards England and the old railway bridge was mesmerizing. Lunch served every day but evening meals Friday and Saturday only. Local beers and spirits too. We've been regulars for forty years and have experienced the ups and downs of the Boat through various owners. Now the pub is enjoying an amazing renaissance - open each day at lunch time as well as the evenings serving a limited range of excellent meals (with careful consideration given to food allergies). Today (Thursday) at lunch the pub was buzzing - something which may be a pointer for future success.

We occasionally walk down the valley from where we live in Newland but will definitely do so more often now it has improved so much The only observation is that the outdoor seating is getting very tired and is not very comfortable. The stunning vista from the garden would be completed as and when you have the budget to replace it.

Always absolutely LOVED The Boat as being as close to the perfect pub as a human can find, but having actually stayed in the place for the first time, you can push that ranking straight through any glass ceiling. What a weekend. The apartment? Vastly undervalued (don’t tell them). Expected spartan, got decadent. Food? Expected burger van, got masterchef. I don’t want to brag, but… ok. I will brag. I got my picture taken for drinking the cider board. This place rocks harder than Rick Parfitt, Lemmy and Angus Young on a Friday night on the town together.

The service was friendly and the food reasonably priced but it was a dirty place. It obviously had not been cleaned for a long time. The windows were especially filthy. Love this little inn, been coming here for years and it always feels like you're stepping back in time into what a traditional pub should be like. Cozy and friendly on the inside, and with spectacular views from the outside. Simple but delicious food - I had the platter (a kind of Ploughman's Lunch), the other half had a delicious steak baguette and little one had the kid's fish fingers. Everything freshly prepared. Sitting on a bench in the garden, overlooking the old railway bridge and the tranquil waters of the Wye, on an unseasonably sunny Sunday lunchtime - it's about as good as it gets. The beer is always fantastic, too.

Nowhere to moor boats properly and a slippery climb up rocks to get to the pub. Pub not open either, despite 30 or 40 people waiting, all from the canoe trips.. And when it opened, the staff were unfriendly, not enough bar staff and drinks high priced. I just don't get it.

Called in for a light lunch Sunday afternoon whilst canoeing on the river. The pub has direct access from the river if you can scale the horrendous 'footpath', albeit very short but steep & rocky. Unsure if this is something the pub could address as clearly it's used by lots of paddlers etc. Queued for ages at the bar, staff ( 2 young lads) was very polite & helpful. Sadly, the outdoor tables & seating was in poor condition & the beer garden in general was run down & unkempt. Had steak baguettes, salad & chips. Nicely presented but the steak was so chewy/tuff! Overall, excellent location, lovely staff but some TLC needed.

We visited this pub as part of our day out on the Wye. I was greeted by a really friendly young man behind the bar however that was where the good hospitality ended! We sat outside and would have loved to have ordered some food but we only had a short amount of time there. We ordered our drinks and sat outside. The landlady was extremely rude and hostile, she shouted …. yes literally shouted at us for taking a bite out of our packed sandwich. In hindsight perhaps we should have waited but we had just spent £10 on 2 drinks! She could have come over and kindly spoke to us but instead shouting at us in front of all the other customers - Manners cost nothing! We watched her take a stick delivery and it is clear that she has little customer service and her very hostile attitude is “ My pub is busy and I don’t need to try and be warm and welcoming!” Shame as we won’t visit again.

My partner and I came here to check out the Detroit pizza and cocktails. The service was fast and super friendly, plus they catered for my nut allergy really well. Being dog friendly, we took out 12 yo labrador Alffi who had fun, plus and Utterly Mutterly ice-cream! We had the 1/2 and 1/2 Detroit pizza, a mix of Bloody Mary and the porcini mushrooms. It was DELISH, the portion was also massive meaning we took half home for tea, making it 2 meals in 1. My partner had the Detroit IPA which was hoppy and fresh. I had the Shepherd and Welsh Wanderer cocktails. Very strong, delicious and well presented. We have friends that live locally and will absolutely be back to check out the Sunday slices, bring our dogs and have some more pizza and cocktails. Thanks Lee & co for fab hospitality.
