We called in for a quick lunch on Saturday. We usually go elsewhere, but Tenby was busy so we ended up in Tenby House. We ordered the sausage and mash with onion gravy for my husband, beetroot falafel with a flatbread for me and a bowl of chips for our son . We were expecting big standard pub grub, but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was served quickly and was absolutely delicious. My husband commented that his food was nicer than some he had received in more expensive restaurants. A lot of places pay lip service to vegetarians and do the food badly, this was certainly not the case here. My food was lovely, very well cooked and presented. My only gripe is that the lagers they have on tap are naff

I was really looking to eating here as we first visited 20 years ago. Our starter was OK and then it went downhill. I am only reviewing my meal, my partner had a fish dish which was OK. I ordered a rib eye steak cooked to medium, this came with rustic chips. I could see as soon as the steak arrived that it looked quite pale and not seared. I was unable to eat it tough and stringy white fat made it impossible to chew. The rustic chips were nice and crunchy but tasted of chip oil. Mushroom was OK. I informed the staff who reacted quickly and agreed that the steak was not OK and that they would take off the price of the steak. In my opinion this steak should never have left the kitchen. The restaraunt itself is very nice.

We were so excited to eat here. The building itself is beautiful and has a lovely warm decor. The staff were friendly and very accomidating. Didn't catch her name but the floor manager was wonderful. She went the extra mile and we appreciated it. But unfortunately the food was not good. My husbands fillet steak was overcooked and dry. The chips were bland and undercooked. The vegetarian aubergine meal was inedible and I had to send back. We will return for a glass of wine and relax in this beautiful restraunt, but I'm afraid we will not be trying the food again.

This place was a real gem! I spent the month of Sept traveling around the UK and Ireland and happened to be in Tenby on my 40th birthday, so wanted to take myself out to dinner. I was looking for a relaxed vibe but with good food that felt worthy of a "birthday dinner," even though I was traveling solo. I really lucked out with this place! The owner was there and his son was tending bar and I could have talked to them all night. So friendly and fun! The woman who brought my food and took my order was so attentive and accommodating even though I was eating downstairs instead of in the main dining area (upstairs). Excellent service!! I ended up chatting with a lovely couple with an adorable dog all night, drinking wine, and eating fantastic scallops...my birthday dinner couldn't have been better. At the end of the night, the owner paid my tab! Who does that?! This was one of my top 10 dining experiences. Everyone should visit Plantagenet House when in Tenby if you want a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, a relaxed vibe in a cool setting, and yummy food.

Top restaurant prices, average to disappointing at best. The ribeye was cooked well, but horrendously overpriced. It was served with half-cooked cherry tomatoes and mushrooms that had spent too long under a hot lamp, so they had become spongy and wrinkled. Not ideal. If you can't provide quality, lower your prices. The rustic chips looked awesome but actually tasted of old oil and were really off-putting. How old does oil have to be before you can taste it on a chip!? My partner's chowder to start was the best part of the meal. The service in the restaurant was nice and attentive, and it was really well run for a busy little place. However, the barman downstairs made the atmosphere pretty shitty while we were there... maybe he was having a bad day. All in all, we laughed at how bad the food was for the price. We loved the service we received in the restaurant, but we will most certainly never eat there again.

Lunch with family on a day out in Tenby. We had the veggie curry, the meat curry, scampi and chips and steak and chips. All were delicious! It was so great to be offered the choice of having half and half with our curries - it’s simply the best; I’ve never understood why it’s only on offer in Wales! The curries were spicy, but not overpoweringly so, though I think I’d say that if korma is your usual choice you may want to try something else. The chips were delicious and enjoyed by all. Service was quick, especially on a busy day. Great atmosphere too.

Fine dining not at its best, most definitely promoting itself well above the capability of the front of house staff, the chef and their team, The Plantagenet House is a pretentious, self absorbed low light in the thriving culinary offering of Tenby which is obviously living on past glories and owners. We visited The Plantagenet House on Saturday 10th August to make a dinner booking for Monday 12th August for our wedding anniversary, and should have known that there would be issues as the person taking our booking was sternly advised by another staff member that the diary could only be completed in pencil and not pen, which put her in a panic as she was unable to find one, why, is this a thing? We arrived for our 7:15pm booking time a few minutes early and there was confusion where to seat us as the table allocated had been taken by a walk in, this was quickly sorted and we were seated on table 7, a drinks order was taken and despite the wine glasses being different sizes, presented quiet quickly. No ribeye available so the fillet steak and lobster mains ordered, The Goats cheeses tart was good and the plate removed quickly, so my expectations for the rest of the evening were looking up. More walk-ins came, seated around us, orders placed and there food was on the table before any member of staff came back to us, it was about 45 minutes and no sign of our main meals, so my wife asked a staff member if there was an issue with our order, within minutes et voila, they appeared, and here's where the disappointing evening peaked, the food had obviously been sat waiting for some time, to be served to us, the lobster was on the hotter side of warm and just enough for my wife, the steak however being cooked to medium, looked as though it hadn't been anywhere near to a grill, had no heat in it, the chips were cold, the confit obviously retained heat as the steak was on top of it, after 1 mouthful I mentioned it to a staff member who swiftly took it away whilst apologising, expecting a 10/15 minute wait, but no, the same plated fillet steak/chips/confit was back in front of me within 3 minutes and was a steaming plate of microwaved blandness, I called over another staff member, and advised that I was not happy that my fillet steak had been microwaved to get it hot, again more apologies and the offer of selecting another item from the menu or a drink, but I'd seen and tried enough to sit and wait for anything else, so politely refused the offer. So yes the fillet steak was removed from the bill and the bottle of wine complementary, but with the following comment, "don't give us a bad review because your wine is free", really shows what this place is all about.

I was expecting something great from this restaurant and i was so disappointed!! The three tables around us complained about their food and mine was ok but definitey not fine dining. We have since found out that it has changed hands and not for the better. Expensive and not worth it. I booked it in advance for our first night’s stay in Tenby, the second night i booked The Dunes hotel!! Now that is what i call fine dining!!!! It was absolutely amazing. Our next go to would be the Bay Tree. The price at Plantatenthouse does not reflect the quality. We will not be returning. I must add that the lady on meet and greet was first class and the service was excellent but the chef let them down and it was embarrassing for them. I would give it a wide berth until they can find a new chef.

Emma and I were wandering around Tenby on a drizzly Tuesday afternoon when we first stumbled across The Plantagenet. Hopefully we can forgiven for initially thinking this might be one of those arising trendy vegan establishments but we were very soon to discover it was far from that. We had lunch which consisted of sausage and mash and the chowder, washed down with the Franschhoek Cellar Chenin Blanc. Both of us were blown away and we quickly called to book for the following evening meal. We have just returned to the camp site feeling extremely happy once again and we cannot give this little hidden gem enough praise. Emma had the crab/mackerel pate starter and Hake main and I devoured and loved the lamb wellington. Complimented with the Argentinian Malbec. Amazingly, we then met the manager Laura who educated us on the history of this stunning building and with surprise informed us that her and her new team were only 3 weeks into the restaurant adventure. This is why I am writing chapter and verse on this review. If we could give it 6 stars we would !! Classic cooking at its finest backed up with a relaxed cosy atmosphere - well done to all !! The atmosphere and service staff were excellent but the whole experience was let down by the poor skills of the chefs. The ingredients they use are top notch but they do not have the skills, or choose not to, deliver dishes deserving of them. Sauces are bland and at times lazy with little depth of flavour. There is little consistency in the dishes going to the table such as one lamb rack at 40 quid a pop looking and tasting like it had been boiled for hours to another looking like it was cooked just right. I suspect it was reheated from a rack prepared the previous day as it reached the table very quickly. Scallops were cold in the middle but a decent portion for the price and tasted good. Happy to pay much more for food if it deserves the price tag but in this case it was very disappointing food for the price. It could be easily corrected if management just admited their chefs lack consistency (see all previous reviews saying similar things). But positives are, an amazing atmosphere and attentive service staff. Can't give a higher score due to food and value for money.

4 of us had the one of the best NYE at Tenby House, £85 each and we were sceptical about the free bar from 20:00-02:00 and buffet food but it was fantastic, bar was well staffed so no long queues and any drink you wanted was included in the price (they had run out of Baileys though) Hot buffet up until 22:30 was delicious and really well organised then a cold buffet was laid out after the hot buffet, again lots of choice and delicious. I can't state enough how lovely ALL the staff were, how well organised it was and yes it was busy but not overly packed. Wasn't a fan of queuing outside to make sure we got a table as not everyone with a ticket could be seated, we were lucky..not sure standing for 6hrs would have been as enjoyable. Maybe in future they could sell tickets for tables and seats to first come first served then standing only tickets at a slightly cheaper price..just an idea. I would definitely recommend and will certainly be back. Thank you Tenby House!

We popped in for a light lunch on a visit to Tenby. I'm afraid it promises much but delivers little. The decor is quirky and the building atmospheric, situated on a pretty side street, next to a National Trust Tudor Merchant's house, near the harbour. Food, however, was adequate but overpriced. The crab on my crab sandwich was almost pureéd (no luscious chunks of white meat) and my husband's parsnip soup (£10.95!) came without bread; we had to ask twice and he'd eaten most of the soup by the time it came. Service was apathetic, bordering on supercilious at times. Three lads more interested in chatting behind a curtain than attending to customers; indeed, a couple of prospective customers left when nobody greeted them. A shame because we are usually generous tippers. Wouldn't eat there again.

I walked down to the Tenby House pub where a large board outside the bar detailed that the Rugby World Cup Game between England and Japan would be on tv. I walked in, bought an expensive pint of flat as a fart beer and sat waiting for the match. As the national anthems played, Buster Blood Vessel was belting out Lip Up Fatty on the loudspeakers so I went to the bar and asked if they were putting the commentary on for the game. The barmaid replied, “No, I don’t think we are”. I have to admit to being more than a little miffed, I mean why say they are going to show the game, and for me that means no loud pop music, it means an atmosphere created by the commentators no matter who is playing or how many people are watching, if you invite people then you should do the decent thing. I am here for a week but I won’t be going back in that pub ever again, its just so rude to invite people and then treat them like dirt!

Fantastic pub, very traditional - couldn't believe how busy the restaurant was, I think every table was used. I did notice someone with a fish and chips and the fish looked a bit small, I thought to my self, I hope he ordered an OAP, small or child's portion. Happy hour was my best part, I had gotten there by luck just past 16:00, and then chose the small table on the right. After a short while all the locals seemed to pop in and the banter was great. I felt extremely welcome and I will pop in each year as I traditionally have a welsh holiday each year. Really interesting building which clearly has lots of history, and we'll put together, great atmosphere. Service also really good. However food is perhaps on the expensive side for what it is.

We came in for a drink & wish we hadn’t bothered as the bar staff were unwelcoming & bordering on rude. Decided not to eat here or even return. We ate in the Hope & Anchor instead much nicer & only short walk down hill.

We were looking for a light bite on a Sunday afternoon and stumbled upon this gem. The building has to be experienced to be believed. So quirky and historic. Lovely staff and nice quiet atmosphere. Although they were only serving Sunday lunch we went for two children's plates that were lovely and just what we needed. We were looked after by the wonderful Harry who made us feel most welcome.

A mix of good and bad. Mains were good (steak and lamb) as was the decor. Service less so - wine arrived pre-opened, lack of knowledge about various dishes and just a lack of interest in general. Some items are seriously over priced - bread is £7 as an example. Overall disappointed - there are better options in Tenby.

Lovely atmosphere. Great service. Our server Oscar was approachable, friendly and made us feel very welcome. Especially as it was Oscars first day. Would thoroughly recommend!

Stumbled across this establishment whilst exploring Tenby. So glad we did. From the moment you enter the building you can feel the history and authenticity. We were fortunate to get seated without a lunch booking. The staff were charming and attentive. And most importantly the food was delicious. I recommend trying the fresh oysters.

This family owned and run restaurant is an absolute gem, run by an amazing lady (Nye) and with the help of her adult children and wonderful staff offer exquisite food expertly cooked and wonderfully presented accompanied with a well thought out and sourced wine list. My family, friends and I have been lucky enough to have been visiting for many years and would just like to put on record HUW truly grateful we are. Big love ❤️ from Tudor and family xxxxx

Lovely bones - spoiled by incongruous "hippy dippy" decor. Apart from our waiter (European chap, smartly dressed, very attentive and efficient), the staff appeared to have rolled in off the beach & were indifferent to the comfort of the customers. Noisy aussie banter from downstairs (staff? friends of staff?) didn't improve the ambience. The food was over-priced - my Monkfish was nice, but the rice wasn't cooked & it was clumpy, the sauce was meh. The wifes lamb was OK. I left my rice & sauce, mentioned my issue to the waiter & was offered our bottle of wine free as a gesture of goodwill. Tenby has more diners than restaurant covers available - perhaps this contributes to the general apathy towards diners in the town? Anyway, this place needs a good clean and decor sympathetic to the buiding - and the staff (apart from our waiter) need a bit of a shake.

If I could give no stars I would. Basic chicken curry and a pasta dish that cost £33 were absolutely awful. I would estimate that the ingredients and costs to cook were pennies for both. My wife's curry had barely any chicken in it and...

The American Diner has a totally different business philosophy with next to no signage, we had Google maps on and still struggled to find it. It is conveniently hidden inside the Fish and Chip shop, it is red roped off for VIPs only and when you try to enter after triumphantly finding it, you are met by a rude woman that sharply indicates there is no sit down service, or internal queuing it would seem, and that you need to order through the window. Following form, not a single do not enter sign, obviously why waste money on signs when you must be approaching recievership anyway! This is the best review I can give after the way we were spoken too. We did not buy, so cannot attest to the quality, but if they treat the food the way they treat their custom, we dodged a bullet.

We live in the village. Keen to support local business ... but sorry... Awful. The food was awful! Dry and old. They did offer an alternative but it was SO awful that I was happy to leave. Never again.

Went for lunch at this venue yesterday. Don't order the garlic mushroom starter as it's a rip off. Got one puny slice of bread with what would probably equate to about two button mushrooms and creamy sauce, although it tasted great, come on £7.95 for this. Previously had more value for money with the previous owners. The small plate ham & egg was very good though and the service off Gleisny was good as always.
