Had a very nice lunch in the George hotel. Cosy restaurant. The ceiling was covered in coloured fairy lights. Log fire burning. We had langoustines to start. My husband the sea bream special and I hat battered haddock and chips. We shared a pear tatin to finish. Staff were all really friendly and service was efficient. I think it would be worth booking as it was quite busy. Well worth a visit.

I compared the food to Weatherspoon but atmosphere is old country farmhouse..intimate and cosy. Different rooms are perfect for cosy meal. I enjoyed my clubhouse from the value menu but too stuffed to try a dessert. My companion did not enjoy the scampi..tasted frozen... waiter a bit stand offish...quick to point out that he could split the bill this time but they were doing away with that option next week. Overall I totally enjoyed my meal and experience while my companion was more picky and let down.

I would give the hotel four stars alone. The room is good and clean except for the TV. But unfortunately there is also this restaurant. When we checked in we were asked if we would like to reserve a place in the restaurant and pointed out to us that we shouldn't decide so late because otherwise everything would be fully booked. We then made a reservation. When we arrived the restaurant wasn't even half full. After a while we ordered the pie and drinks. It took forever for the drinks to arrive. While waiting, we could see a woman who had her pie returned because it was too cold. After 20 minutes my beer arrived and it was announced that the whiskey I had ordered was out. So I chose an alternative and waited another 10 minutes (the bill then showed a third, completely different whiskey). At first I thought there was a small sample in the glass that you drink before you get the real one, but she was serious. As expected, nothing about the pie was fresh. The vegetables were frozen, the dough and mashed potatoes were definitely not homemade and I also have my doubts about the meat. Considering we had to wait 40 minutes for the food, which cost around €20 (£17.5) per pie, it wasn't worth it. Then we were left alone with the card payment device. The good thing is, we wouldn't have tipped anyway.

The food was okay, perhaps a bit over priced for the quality. The bone of contention is the added "discretionary" service charge of 8%, which was in fact 10% that wasn't advised or apparently allowed to be deducted. It felt a little bit like sharp practice to me, so left with a sour taste in the mouth.

Great wee pub, friendly and attentive staff. Brilliant food and quick service! Really good value for money! Lovely ambiance and like the extras on the table like the welcome booklet, which showcases the their attitude to giving good customer service in a relaxing atmosphere. It was clever and funny. Highly recommend a visit if you’re looking for good food and a friendly atmosphere!
