Seriously surprised by some of these reviews. Popped by yesterday with my kids so we could try some local fish and chips as a takeaway. They were absolutely delicious and cooked fresh to order (smoked haddock and chips). Kids demolished the lot! And that's after a free lolly from their witch 😁 Staff were so super friendly that I was threatening to leave my youngest to help with the dishes. Definitely not the cheapest chippy I've had but it is what it is, you get what you pay for. All the prices are clearly stated before you order any food so the bill shouldn't be any surprise at the end. Thanks for a great lunch. When we are back over that side we will definitely pop in again 😊

A real treat while visiting Pittenweemn. We were visiting with friends who live in Scotland and came for the viewing and swimming in the Tidal Pool. Lesley was out host and could not have been more charming and attentive to our needs. We had a dog and were able to eat with her at the table. I loved the quirky pop art decor and the food was excellent. I have every confidence that I will be coming back next time I am in the area and wholly recommend it for the warm welcome and fresh cooked food.

My wife and I popped in recently after a day in the East Neuk, and were fortunate to secure a table for two before the bar and small restaurant areas became very busy. Other reviews have recognised the quirky decor mix. I ordered a mixed fish supper comprising a regular fillet and a smoked fillet. The former was delicious, and the latter less to my taste. A very large portion, which allowed me to share some with my wife. Her choice of crispy chicken (we were advised this was a new addition to the menu) was disappointing as the chicken pieces were small and very, very crunchy, and on reflection it may have been better to order fish. C’est la vie. All in all a mixed experience.

We decided to stop here for my mums birthday lunch following a lovely walk along the coastal path. We ordered the Cullen Skink. When it arrived it was cold and the fish was strange - translucent in colour and almost gelatinous texture. My mum very politely said to the girl serving that the fish was undercooked and the soup was cold. The lady was so rude to my mum, she immediately told my mum she was wrong and that the fish was cured and it’s meant to be like that! My mum did not argue but said that it was cold. The lady then took the soup away and agreed to warm it up. She returned with the soup now hot but the whole experience was terrible. Totally ruined what should have been a nice birthday lunch. I was upset because the lady was so rude and condescending to my mum. A good day spoiled! Please avoid this place - I wish I had read the reviews before we went!

Langoustines were awful, had to stop eating them. Kept thinking the next one can't be this bad, but yes it was. Awful, difficult to actually bite through them, they were like rubber. Charged the full price, proprietor couldn’t have cared less. Pass this place by.

Walked in with the dogs from Elie. Complimentary nibbles for us and the dogs. Tasty fish & chips. Very friendly staff. Spotless Yes a mixture of art but is that really a bad thing? I don’t think so! Catering for all tastes. It wouldn’t do if we were all the same. Will definitely return! Oh and an offer of a minibus back to Elie but got the bus instead as we didn’t like to put the owner out. 5/5👍

Remember this place as a very popular old fishing village pub always noisy and bustling with custom, but upon walking in was confused with the bizarre decor of neon, Marilyn, fishing murals and photos. It's lost its charm. We were welcomed well with attentive service. Food was fine but expensive for what we had. Won't be rushing back, which is quite sad as it's in a beautiful location.

After walking the coastline we decided we needed a light bite to eat and as there seemed to be nowhere else open we stopped here. First thing that meets you is the takeaway area then through to a bar then around the corner to what appeared to be somewhere reminiscent of a 70s seaside cafe but thrown together, not quirky . We ordered 2 BLTs, bowl chips with mushy peas, one medium white wine , pint Guinness and glass of tap water. Our BLTs were very disappointing , bread was toasted to an inch of its life and ripped the roof of your mouth , one piece of bacon . Small dish with coleslaw , another small dish with a strange mix of some sort of salad . Chips and mushy peas were ok . But really £33!!! Yes we should have complained but it was getting busy and we were needing food after our long walk. So be aware .

The only thing that saved the day were I like my chips crispy and these were very nice..but reheating sauce many times in microwave right in front of you not something I would usually accept.. Also Very expensive.. Small chips and tiny pot of curry sauce was £5.50... Takeaway. Unfortunately they now don't have any competition, so if you want a chippy this is it. Crispy chips saved the day.

Our family of 3 traveled to pittenweem to meet up with our English friends this weekend. On arrival on Friday, we had excellent takeaway meals and complimentary poppadums with homemade spicy onions while we waited Staff were so friendly. We returned on Saturday for dinner and 5 clean plates told the story. Smoked haddock stuffed with prawns in a cheese sauce was amazing. Sunday lunch was fillet steak with all the trimmings- again 5 clean plates. While we were waiting for our lunch, the owner brought us langoustines, showed us how to shell them and he also gave us king prawns so we could taste the difference. Again, these were complimentary Guys, you made our weekend break. Thank you

Fish Pakora and haddock and chips also excellent. Nothing is too much trouble here. Just a few miles from the popular fish restaurants of Anstruther - but well worth the trip.

Plenty of hand santiser everywhere, even on each table. Also track and trace in operation. Lovely food, free pick up service to and from St Monans to restaurant, same young man picked the 6 of us up, served us throughout the time we were there and then took us all back home - excellent service. Starters are HUGE! Eight large pieces of black pudding tempura, same with haggis starter (ask staff to box it up & take it home), seafood linguine bit too smokey, langoustines delicious, all main courses enjoyed, especially all the fish. We stopped off here after walking some of the Fife Coastal Path recently and we weren't disappointed. Sat inside, and had a drink, only one local ale on, but it was good We then decided to have something to eat before we continued our walk. All food was freshly made, piping hot and very tasty. The Cullen Skink was so creamy and full of fish, absolutely delicious. A bit confused as people were getting served at the bar, where as I thought with covid, the new rules were that all hospitality had to be table service?.Everything else on the COVID-19 measures were fine, details were taken and hand sanitiser at entrance and on all tables. Lovely little place and good value for money. Will definitely return.

Appalling rudeness from the manager. After failing to produce food within the advised timescale, the manager seemed to pretend good service was being provided, instead of apologising for the delay or giving clear information; instead fobbing us off before becoming extremely rude and openly obnoxious, 'what did we expect, everyone else had been waiting for over an hour' etc. Then asked us to leave! Bizarre way to behave towards customers. Pretty snippy with the staff too. How unpleasant. We're clearly not the first to have this treatment either. Not sure why they're operating in a village where all other businesses thrive on community and good reputations. Avoid at all costs.

This is very welcoming in a brilliant situation down at the harbour. Very friendly owner who didn’t stop working all the time we were there. Social distancing was easy, and there was sanitiser on each table, but they were also being sprayed and wiped whenever anybody left. Now the food... not a huge menu - but that’s because everything g is spanking fresh rather than hauled out of a freezer. We had a fish pakora starter which was heavenly and I could easily have eaten this as a main course. The Cullen skink(smoked haddock soup) was divine. This is listed as a starter but is absolutely great as a main. Filling and just totally delicious. A couple of cold beers and all was well with the world...

I have just spent an evening in the Larachmhor Tavern. The food took 40 minutes to arrive. But, the food was abismal in my opinion. Before I go into detail on the food the place is too small. I was crammed into a corner no more than 2 by 3 metres with four tables. At one time each table was full leaving a metres distance between any of the 10 people in the room. Do not have the pizza, the dough is thick and barely cooked whilst the pepperoni was discoloured and to me tasted off. The fish is also subpar, albeit fresh the cooking is very bad, dry and tasteless. From my seat I could see into the kitchen where the majority of food could see a visit to Chef Microwave. Please for your safety, wallet and taste bud I would personally not go here again.

I think it’s the worst restaurant I have been to. We arrived here at 18:30 and received our food at 19:45 which is appalling. I ordered a pepperoni pizza and the pepperoni was to my eye and opinion mouldy! My Father's prawns were tasteless in his opinion. The service was alright but not the expectation I wished it to be. For the amount of time it took to cook and prepare the food none of my family members enjoyed as much as they wanted too. I do not recommend.

Went for sit in dinner and had a delicious fish and chips supper. Food was really delicious however this pub is lacking when it comes to Covid-19 precautions. Some aspects to be praised such as hand sanitizers at entrance and tables spaced. However no face masks being worn by staff when close up to customers. Fan in dinner area which is contrary to safety standards as thought to move flow of air and spread any viruses should they be present. Finally I was concerned to see staff using the same cloth to clean bar, tables and chair seats. Not sure I would want to eat at a table cleaned by a cloth that had cleaned seats. I think with further changes customers would feel safer and less likely for Tavern to be closed down

We were on a walking holiday along this beautiful coast (Fife coastal trail) . We found almost no food /drink facilities that are actually on trail or open (most start only Thur-Sunday )until we came to Pittenweem . We were welcomed by the Dublin born owner who was excellent, friendly and attentive . The pub has a lovely feel to it and I could literally have spent hours there . It’s across from fish market and I was hopeful of getting some quality East Coast fare . I was not disappointed .I chose the Crab pie . Which was an enormous amount of fresh cooked crab topped with perfect mashed potatoes . I needed no additional seasoning it was perfect...I mean it really was perfect . We had to wait 40 minutes for it to be made from scratch but come on that’s what you want . I don’t want a ready made pie when there is a fresh sea food market a across the road . This was great value for a dish that in say , London, Madrid etc would cost a fortune . Stumbled across this place last night whilst driving through the lovely coastal village of Pittenweem. Tavern is located right on the shoreline facing the stunning harbour - a real landscape!Noticed the Fish & Chips sign and decided to give it a try. First mistake. Was greeted by friendly staff inside and I asked if this is a chip shop, which he advised they sell fish & chips, chippy style - and gave us a menu to take a look at.Placed an order for two fish suppers at £17 which I thought was reasonable if they were able deliver on the quality. Too optimistic, eh.Was advised it would be with me in 15 minutes as cooked from fresh - well so I should hope so - would one expect to pay good money for frozen food in a restaurant...Fast forward 15-20 minutes, I bought two cans of juice for £3 (absolute shocking price considering these are around 60p max elsewhere) and collected the two fish suppers. Got back to the car, of course facing the harbour, where I was looking forward to eating a ‘fresh’ fish supper.Once opened we both just knew this was a waste of time and money, the chips were drenched in grease/oil and although the fish itself was cooked to an acceptable standard, it was ruined by the incredibly soggy and disgusting so-called batter! We both had a couple chips and a taste of fish, decided that was enough and chucked both portions in the bin.To summarise, a very substandard and poor quality fish & chips with overly inflated prices (taking advantage of the location, etc). Stick to the chippy just behind the harbour or nip along to Anstruther where you will get served fish and chips, that are cooked well enough to enjoy. If you can’t cook fish & chips then don’t pretend to and serve customers with crap.Definitely won’t be back!!!

Very nicely located character bar / restaurant opposite fish market. We went on a Thursday evening as we were tempted by seafood so ordered mackerel pate, scallops and langoustine. Oddly it came with bread or home made oatcakes. We ordered both. Would have liked fries but this was not possible. The pate was ok but not the tastiest. Scallops 5 for £20 expensive and a tad overdone but hand dived scallops are notable expensive. Langoustines nice but we’ve bought and cooked better ourselves. The accompanying salad a bit disappointing lettuce, onion and sweetcorn. The oatcakes were different and nice to try but a bit heavy and not the best accompaniment whilst the bread was nothing special. COVID precautions were limited and I would have liked more outside seating and more opening windows. Staff were not wearing masks. In summary good do better but obviously the current situation is far from easy to deal with.

Interesting reading these reviews. Clearly the owner can’t take criticism !!!Also a recurring theme on how the langoustine are cooked and are they fresh or frozen. When we were there one of my friends commented that they were rubbery. The owner replied that they were freshly caught that day. Whilst walking around the harbour the next day and chatting to the fishermen they said no langoustine had been caught for past 2 weeks. I am guessing they are frozen. Owner not customer friendly. Wine is not on the drinks menu. There is a limited choice very mediocre and vastly overpriced wines so make sure you ask what your getting first. We didn’t and ended up with some really cheap and nasty plonk. No itemised bill. All very disappointing as looks good from outside. Went to John Dory the next day and it was an all together much more pleasant experience.

Had the misfortune to visit this place today, should have kept walking and bought a pie at the bakers and saved £80.Basically, long story short, mix up with starters coming with main meals due to new waitress, flickering offputting lights over table (very dangerous for epileptic), no apologies from aggressive manager about confusion. Big fuss made when we said we did not want to eat starters after mains and we were made to feel like scum. Been here 3 years in a row during a half term break. Good food and nice vibe on a winter’s night. Waiter with NI accent excellent. Recommend for family scran. Try the oak smoked haddock.

Called in at mid-day for a light lunch, ahead of our 3 hr car journey north. Very nice welcome from the lady in charge, and a particularly nice welcome for our little spaniel "Archie," who was the first to get served with a dog treat!! (No complaints though, he always comes first!) We had a couple of excellent cappuccino Italian coffees - first class (and with a mint chocolate) after which we ordered 2 x Cullen Skink, which too were excellent and a meal in itself. So if the extensive range of seafood on offer here is as good, it has to be a place we shall visit again. Lovely litte place, with good value for money. (Nancy & Bill)

(Contrary to these other reviews) we had an excellent seafood lunch here. The service was friendly and the food delicious, freshly cooked. We had halibut and linguini - both cooked to perfection.

From the comment of ‘Zippy Mum’ below this was all our experience (4 kids and 4 adults) of the manager of the tavern. Even the kids were taken aback that evening and talking about the whole experience the next day!

This traditional fishing village pub is in a pretty location by the harbour. We were a party of 4 adults and 4 kids. First impressions were good with a warm welcome, our dog enjoyed the treat and a bowl of water, always a nice touch.

6 of us stopped here for lunch. The specials fish and vegetable pakoras were outstanding, can’t believe the amount of fish. The half and half fish and their pies were also a success. Unfortunately the fish cakes weren’t same standard as rest of food. The only downside was we had 3 bottles of wine which we were charged at £24 per bottle. There wasn’t a wine menu so we ordered unsighted on price which was our fault but we were surprised at cost of wine.

This is a fabulously chaotic design of a place where they manage to combine an ordinary pub with a place you can come for simple coffees, snacks or some fine dining. Well worth a visit - even if you only fancy a pint.

Dreadful food, overpriced, dreadful landlady who will not accept any criticism (see previous reviews), and a husband who is aggressive and convicted of violence against pensioner this year. Avoid this business, other places to eat inthe area.

Tried to order a glass of port, however the very pleasant young lass behind the bar had trouble understanding the request (English was not her first language) and she offered us a boat! Step in a thoroughly unfriendly, po-faced dame who was absolutely not happy to be working that particular shift and who took huge offence when her attitude was commented on. We were accused of being intoxicated (had shared a bottle of wine with dinner in a restaurant a few doors down) and told to leave. Shocking way to treat visitors to your establishment. Won't be back and would not recommend.

I love the Larachmhor. Fabulous location, warm deco and a chilled atmosphere. Don't expect lots of fuss and bows from waiters, just a cool, relaxing place with reasonable food. For me the best is how dog-friendly they are. We can take the dog to any table with us and they serve dog beers that he loves. Great. We go there whenever we can.

Arrived in Pittenweem and was looking for a place for coffee. We came across the Larachmhor Tavern by chance and went in to see if we could get coffee. A very warm welcome from the bar person and was told that our two springer spaniels were welcome to come in. We had three excellent coffees and offered water for our dogs they even refilled out water themos for the walk back to St Monans. We will definetly visit again and have a meal next time. Congratulations on the staff at the Tavern you are credit and made us feel valued customers. Also thanks to the locals at the bar who took time to tell us about the event that was going on that day in the harbour

A simple pub, no fancy decor, almost the reverse. Lovely friendly staff. The best Cullen Skink on the planet, Rich creamy, full of fresh fish. Incredible. If you're in need of a big breakfast, this is the place too.

The poor reviews are to be believed. It should be amazing....wonderful spot, cozy vibe etc. Instead food was really poor, and the management was a masterclass in 'passive aggressive'. My Cullen Skink starter was ok (bread stale)..but when it emerged again with mashed potato on top as my wife's Main Course and called a 'pie'.. unbelievable. I'm not going to waste time detailing any more..long reviews are dull. Last night of our holidays ruined by soulless, careless, tasteless fare. Just believe me, don't eat here.

We have been here a few times now and we keep returning purely because of the service. The barmaid is a credit to the business. Very hands on and attentive to everyone who walks in...even dogs. Always smiling and nothing is too much...not even the complimentary crisps. Will always go here when in Pittenweem

Just popped in for a quick drink, read the menu and decided to try some local seafood. So glad we did. This place served the best Cullen Skink I have ever had. So thick and creamy and full of flavour. Also had the mixed seafood and some huge onion rings. Very hearty food and very friendly staff.

A massive thank you to Lesley, Alan and the rest of the team for making us, (and our dogs!), welcome on every visit. This is our fourth holiday in Pittenweem and each time we come here we visit the Larachmhor on several occasions. The food here is great and the staff are so friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. A credit to the friendly village of Pittenweem. Just wish we lived closer, but will return next year.

We had visited the Tavern a couple of years ago and the experience was really good, so we were so looking forward to coming back for the amazing smoked haddock fish and chips. We had a takeaway on our first night as the restaurant area was very busy - not a huge portion and everything was a bit soggy but we booked a table for another night because we thought it would be better eating in. The starters of cheese nachos were incredibly disappointing ... a handful of tortilla chips with some melted cheese and that was it! No salsa, no guacamole, no jalapeño peppers, no sour cream. We ate it but did say how disappointed we were and the response was that we would not be charged for one of our pints of lager. We assume this happened but since we didn’t receive a breakdown of the bill, we can’t be certain. The fish and chips were good, but we do feel that the meal was over priced. And if you do go to sample the fish and chips, avoid the nachos; having read through some previous reviews, it looks as if they are usually served up in this fashion so it wasn’t a one-off mistake. A previous reviewer had said it was pub grub at fine dining prices, and I certainly agree with that.

Dear God. Didn’t think this place could get worse but it has. Not enough staff, tables not cleared, no water in hot water urn, no clean mugs, no milk in coffee machine and the one poor staff member totally run off his feet trying to cope eventually collapsed with the stress of it all. Ambulance was called so I do hope the poor man is okay. Absolutely appalling that Morrisons management have let this go on for so long! Staff your cafe or shut it down!! We sat for an hour and a half and dud not receive our order especially after staff member collapsed. Werent offered a refund as till couldn’t be opened???? But were given a had written credit note for a free meal next time. After a second disastrous visit to this cafe I’m not sure I would return again!! Management get it sorted!!!

We had a bad experience at this place. We went around 10 pm for drinks as we were told this place is opened till 11pm. But the staff and shift supervisor told us they are closed as there was no guests and they were not professional to welcome us. It was very obvious from their voice and look that they didn't want to serve us. Me, my brother and our teen children were visiting Scotland and it was very harsh to see such unprofessional and weird customer service. It was also obvious from their approach that they were mean to our color of skin and not happy to see color customers. Even though we talk about diversity but still people are not mentally and emotionally accept the diversity.

Avoid until the manager/owner recognises that her behaviour is incompatible with hospitality, although I suspect she's not the type of person to take feedback. I wish I'd read the reviews before I spent my money there. I didn't enjoy seeing an elderly fellow customer shouted at about a coffee, or other customers being told off about where they sat, and I didn't enjoy seeing a staff member being told off either. I also didn't enjoy hearing plates crashing about, if you have an open kitchen you might be aware of this. The food was nice enough but overpriced and the menu is very limited. I'm afraid there are no reasons to visit the cafe that are greater than the reasons not to visit. I'll be back to Culross but not to Biscuit.
