Lovely carvery, poor service. No one spoke to us until we were leaving apart from the chap at the carvery. Ignored at the door where we were unsure if we seat ourselves. Sat ourselves and hunted for menus. Ordered on the qr code and collected our carvery. Returned to our drinks already on the table. No one checked on us to see how things were, no plates cleared the entire hour we stayed. And the female worker Who was moaning about other customers loud enough for us to hear was very unprofessional. We won’t be back.

Short staffed for such a big pre booked group but the staff did a wonderful job with the food and service today. Would highly recommend

8 of us went to Sweet Chestnut today. The service was not good at all. Surly and unsmiling and unfriendly. Most of us ordered the Carvary but had to wait for some time for some one to serve us at the carvary. When we asked why we were told that the chef was busy cooking the burger for one of us. Our food and drink was brought to the end of the table and we were told to pass it on. Not a pleasant experience. The vegetables were as usual a bit cool and no one who had the roast beef could actually eat it.

I walk into the Sweet Chestnut and straight away i could tell someone else was in charge. Big guy with glasses with a Newcastle accent think the power had gone to his head. Told me i need to track and trace every time i come in. I've been to the Sweet Chestnut many times and have only been asked to do it the once. The rest of the staff were friendly and helpful food and drink were good too.

We had high hopes for our Christmas Day dinner at Sweet Chestnut, but unfortunately, the experience was a complete disaster from start to finish. Firstly, despite having a reservation, we were left waiting at the bar for a staggering 40 minutes before being seated. Once seated, it took another 45 minutes for someone to even take our drinks order. The wait for the food was incredibly long, even though we had pre-ordered our meals. To make matters worse, the carvery ran out of food, despite the fact that our pre-orders should have been accounted for. Throughout the meal, we had to repeatedly prompt the staff for service, which was slow and inattentive. Overall, our Christmas Day dinner at Sweet Chestnut was a major disappointment. The poor service, long wait times, and lack of attention to detail completely ruined what should have been a special occasion. We would strongly advise against dining here, especially for any special event

Carvery very poor, the veg looked like it'd been out all week, meat was tough and chewy and the gravy was just tasteless. Can't speak for the à la carte as we only had carvery. The girls serving were pleasant and the place itself was nice and plenty of space.

Staff were very pleasant however half the stuff on the menu was unavailable our first choice of starter wasn’t available so we opted for the loaded fries supposed to be with pulled pork but they had ran out of pork so we accepted to have the fries without the pork the full price of the dish was £8.99 given we never had the pork we were shocked to see that we were charged for the pull price this should have been discounted given the lack of choice on the menu which was very limited.

Great atmosphere, nice place to bring your family as there is a park outside for the children. Great food and large selection to choose from, all reasonably priced

This place was well and truly hyped up as one of the best places for food. Eight of us celebrating a birthday. 7 ordered carvery and 1 ordered burger. We were told that when the kitchen food wS nearly ready that we could go to carvery. Bearing in mi d there were 7 for carvery. We 7 were nearly all finished our meals and the burger still hadn't arrived. So customer service was appalling. As for the food. Well if you call powdered mash suitable then you will eat almost anything. The meats, roast beef that was OK. The pork was more belly pork all fat and no meat and the gammon was way too salty. The roast potatoes weren't edible. Cauliflower cheese sauce was watery. So the menu stated that you were getting a beautiful meal, well if today's example was anything to go by it was disgusting.

Spending a night here and all I hear is car horns. Worst stay in a hotel that I could imagine. Staff were sooooo unhelpful to the point of rude.

It would have been OK, if the staff had not been all smelling of hash. And the manager would try and cover it but he was out with them...😜

What can I say, not sure what my husband paid for Christmas dinner the other week, maybe £60ish per head!?! From entering it was very busy which you would expect. Got seated at a table which seating was so uncomfortable on the bench seating, sit back and you’re too far away from table sit forward and you get achy back. Firstly we waited 20-30 minutes to have a drink order taken waited a further 15minutes or so to receive drinks. Starters arrived, soup was fine apparently, I had pate and it was the worst flavourless pate I have ever had, the equally bad part was the bread it was served with, looked like brown or the bread but was oven cooked/toasted within an inch of its life and was extremely hard at really not nice. Main course when we went up was fine though cleanliness for me surfing the lids on things were awful, meat was pretty good, veg was ok, the main thing was the small plates where everything was piled, plates snn hi oils be bigger so everything is not slopped on top of everything. Desert Carmel tart was not the nicest a the desert choice was poor so it was the best option but not nice. Throughout all we had to wait to re order drinks and call over a few times to find out where drinks were. Staff were slow and hovering at times . I understand it was busy. Also last thing, Dogs… I’m a dog owner but. Don’t want to have to see dogs in a “restaurant” of sorts, especially when the get off lead and running up and down the place and listening to them barking, and I love dogs but not in a place of eating and them not been controlled it’s unhygienic and the place was filthy enough without adding in another factor. Would not go back if I was paid and we paid too much for the Christmas Day dinner and was not worth it at all.

Food is better than what you expect. Atmosphere is nice and is very clean. Staff are excellent. Only criticism is you have to order food and drink at the bar which isn't ideal if you are sitting at a table with large group.

Christmas day meal was absolutely terrible, from start to finish, not enough staff and manager should be sacked. The food cold,not cooked, everything except the sweets. Three hours we sat there, and people waiting to start their meal it was carnage. I will not blame the staff they tried their best. Not one apology from the manager.

Went there for a family birthday meal. Nothing special about the food or the quantity. Disappointed by the service with a couldn't be cared attitude. Mains being brought out when starters were still in progress.an the bill not turning up when requested. When there is a table booked in advance I don't expect to be told "I will see if there is a table" this is not a good start for customer / staff relations. Found us a table in a half empty dining room that barely fitted 4 people facing a couple just finishing their mains which afforded them no privacy. Iam not surprised they didn't stay for dessert Disappointed in the whole experience and we couldn't get out quick enough.

Just had our Xmas dinner here and it was excellent. The food was decent and good size portions. Plenty of veg choices and well cooked meat. The staff were attentive and decked out in various festive outfits.

It's ok, food at the Carvery is expensive, as is this beer, 6.25 for a peroni in Dunfermline seems a bit much, staff don't appear very happy.

We’re here on Christmas Eve with the family. It’s been a very disappointing evening. No staff (it seems), waited a long time to be seated, waited 40 minutes for food. The cheeseburger was cremated, we’ve been here for 2 hours so far as our food has been so delayed. We ordered tea and coffee after dinner which took 25 minutes, and our mini doughnuts (ordered at the same time as the coffee) took an additional 20 minutes, required us to chase the order twice and were still frozen in the middle. There is just one (lovely) staff member behind the bar taking all the orders, making the drinks while taking payments - it seems that she’s the only one here holding the place together. Maybe it’s a one off, but for a family Christmas Eve meal we’re regretting our choice. I hope that they figure things out

A Christmas lunch with friends.

Good atmosphere, clean and pleasant restaurant. Bar maid was stuffy and we had to find someone to confirm our booking with table otherwise good food and we will return.

Awful! We were a walk in around 4.30 to grab some food for my kids after seeing Santa nearby. We were seated and then just left to our own devices. We weren’t given the option of someone taking our order and they didn’t bother to inform us to order using the (very small) QR code on the table. Thankfully we noticed the code as there was no other signage on the table telling us how to order. We ordered drinks, a starter, a side and 2 kids meals. The starter arrived and when no other food came we had to go find a server and ask if we could get the kids food. The server was extremely rude and said that ‘obviously’ the starter came out first. I understand this however there’s no option to select all the food to come together on the online ordering system. Plus majority of establishments will send out kids meals first rather than waiting. When explained this she just shrugged and said she’d ask the kitchen to make the food now. The kids meals (chicken dippers and chips) then took forever to come and when it did it was clear it had been sat under a heat lamp for a while. The Chicken dippers were overcooked. One meal had carrots and they were inedible, somehow dry and mushy at the same time. The carrots hadn’t even been peeled! We’d have complained and sent it back if our kids weren’t so hungry. We ate and left asap. My partner and I work in hospitality and weren’t expecting the food to be anything amazing, we just wanted to feed our kids, but it was really terrible. Honestly though, the service was worse, every staff member looked like they didn’t want to be there. Really disappointing for somewhere that’s supposed to be family friendly.

We both had the roast and a wine and beer. The roast looked good and the beef was nicely red. The chef from Poland was enthusiastic and friendly, a real character and 10 out of 10. BUT The beef tasted awful with an acrid bitter taste. The gammon was not great and a bit chewy. Much to our surprise the turkey ( or was it chicken) was the tastiest meat and scored a good passmark. Everything else was overcooked ( we were eating at 6pm) esp the roast potatoes which were inedible and couldn't even be cut. Brocolli and carrots mediocre. Yorkshire pudding overcooked and gravy seemed ok but perhaps it was maybe responsible for the acrid taste on the beef, but I think not! We thought the meal even with a 20% off voucher , expensive and we can very easily get better meals at less cost almost everywhere else. A bad arrangement for queuing with the “wait to be seated” sign immediately at the front door so that any more than 2 persons is intruding into the main doorway.( there were 4, 6 and 8 as we were queuing and many other hotel guests unable to access or egress to building with their bags and suitcases due to the blockage. Some of those guests joined our queue in ignorance or politeness, others had to push past or wait to be let past and other hotel or bar guests had to do the same to get out. There was little attention from indoor staff to assist this situation and for over 10 mins no one was seated. The bar and meal area lacked character. Staff appeared over worked, understaffed and consequently there was a lack of attention, assistance and friendliness. ( not their fault I’m sure)

It has been many years since we visited Sweet Chestnut and we were very impressed, very relaxing environment, friendly staff and our meals were excellent. We ordered from main menu and everyone was happy with their food and drinks.

Having posted before, I'm pleased to say that after being contacted by John, we had a full and Frank discussion about a previous visit. It was acknowledged and accepted that things could have been done better on my previous visit. Having the chance to speak in person gave both of us the opportunity explain things from our own perspective. I feel that John has dealt with the situation in a very positive manner and I look forward to returning soon!! Thank you John.

The atmosphere and the food were very good and the service from Ale was lovely! all-in-all a great place I'm coming back to.

The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived but the staff made sure we got a table that was suitable for my less able wife and our little dog. The staff were attentive but not overly so (as is usually the case) and the food was excellent and well priced ( which it always is). Return visit, this time just for a cup of tea on a chilly afternoon. Restaurant was lovely and warm and as usual we were made most welcome. The Sweet Chestnut is now our regular go to place when we are in Dunfermline.

I have popped in here a few times while working near by. The carvery always caught my eye. This evening me and my Mrs. Went and were not disappointed. I decided to (finally) endulge in the carvery. Jacob was a master of slice and sauce, I very much enjoyed his patter, keeness and knowledge of the grub he was serving up. The rest of the chefs were also more than accommodating. Connor, who I believe is the head shef, went above and beyond to help us out, and make the experience very tailored. I highly recommend.

As we were a large table, our server came to take our order which was very helpful. As soon as my young nephews appeared, she was straight over with the kids menu.

They also participate in an app called to good to go where the left over food is £3.50 and you take it away. X

Popped in for lunch . Decided on the lunch deal (a main and a sweet) Food was unappetizing and lukewarm.. After approximately 30 minutes of finishing mains we were still waiting on empty plates to be cleared away and the desserts to arrive.. needless to say we got fed up waiting and left without the desserts ( that we'd paid for) .. won't be back !

Burgers are great and carvery is always good. Beef sometimes a little tough but the real let down is the standard of roast potatoes… surely an easy fix? They look great but taste poor!!

Second time visiting here - both times I had the Veggie burger which is amazing (highly receommend), probably one of the nicest Veggie burgers I've ever had! Also shared the Breaded Mushroom's as a starter, huge portion, perfect for sharing.. absolutely amazing! Visited on a Monday so it was quite quiet, but still a nice atmosphere, friendly staff... will be back!

Went for breakfast, great value and brilliant staff.

Terrible experience expected a nice breakfast, but it was a big letdown. The coffee was cold, and they didn’t most ofbitems on the menu like croissants or yogurt, though they didn’t provide any alternative options and charged for all of them. The smashed avocado on toast came with burnt bread, artificial avocado, and tasteless eggs. The “pancakes with berries” look and taste like store-bought ones. Wouldn’t recommend this place!

Jacob and the staff, were helpful, chatty and attentive. I’d highly recommend the food and drink. Fantastic team and great venue. Definitely comming back.

Checked in very late, and stayed for 4 nights. All staff were friendly and accommodating. The chef was especially good, always happy and smiling every morning at breakfast good vaue for money. Definately stay again.

The food was soggy but our server was one of the best servers I had in a pub. Her name is Ale or Alee, i can t recall, and she was really attentive and kind.

Staff are all very welcoming and very keen to give you the best service they can. Everytime we come in we are made to feel so welcome and the hospitality provided is exceptional! A big shout out to top chef Jakub! He really is a grafter and is very passionate about his work which is great to see from a customers perspective. Will 1000% be back on a regular basis! Never go to this place, the carvery was a disgrace, it was overcooked dry, cold mixed food in trays due to people using one spoon to put different food on plates l left my so called food. No one asked if we were enjoying the meal or not, the staff was terrible, uninterested and glum looking.food over cooked over priced and stone cold.

Anyone who has special food requirements this is the place to go. I support a man with cerebral palsy who has dysphasia and needs his food blended / liquidised. They did an amazing job. Everything was blended separately and the chef came out with the food and told him what everything was. There only requirement was to book ahead so they were prepared. Which is fair enough. They were advised the night before and were told what be wanted to eat. It was prepared for his arrival. Amazing. The food looked great and smelled amazing. The young man was very happy. Thank you for putting a smile on his face

Visited for breakfast as a family today. Rebekah was running the entire front of house herself and done an excellent job, even though she was rushed off her feet. Menu was fair value and good quality food. However there was nothing particularly different or exciting on it. Overall I would recommend but perhaps not first choice for breakfast. Rebekah is a credit to the place. Please pass on our compliments to the entire team.

Absolutely phenomenal experience, first time I've been out for a meal in a while and we definitely selected the right place! Food was fantastic and a staff member Jakub definitely highlighted the night with positive attitude, very welcoming and friendly. Hope to come back soon!

Dreadful service, horrid bored waitress and no interest in ensuring disabled people given seating as requested in booking but made to walk to far end of restaurant which was a struggle, (the place was empty, so we could have been seated closer to entrance), no excuse to treat people like we were

More of a Travelling Salesman's bed and boarding house than a hotel, very basic less than Travelodge or Days Inn. Overall not worth the cost.

First and last time I will visit this restraint. Waiters were not interested in the slightest no one explained how the ordering worked. One waitress looked at me and my girlfriend with a look of disgust as I scanned the room looking for some assistance. Ordered our food online asked for a rare steak… it came out well done… being a chef myself I would have been mortified not cooking a customers steak to their liking.. will be recommending that people I know avoid this restaurant. The only reason I have given 1 star is because it’s the minimum.

All good was dry and bland not a good chef, waitress was very unpleasant, not interested in making the customers happy or comfortable, even the pot of tea was semi warm by the time I put the milk in it was cold, was considering having our Xmas dinner there this year, it's a definite NO!!!! and won't be back either. Barley a 2/5 ⭐
