Poor service from the get go. Our table was booked for 5. Seated at table 3. Just after 5. Took a least 20 mins to get our first order. Ordered 2 regular carvery's, two kids carverys, and 1 kids burger. Once they told us the kids burger was coming out we went & got carverys as per usual. Finished ours mains by about 6.10. We were going to order desserts. But Took at least 30 mins for a waitress to notice our plates needed cleared, even though our table was right in front of the till. It's as if table 3 is tucked away in the corner and ignored. When she did finally come over to clear the table. We asked if we could have desserts. Left the menus on the table to then ignore us for further 20 mins. We ended fed up. Paid the bill and left. Won't be back for a while. It's bad when our own kids are pointing out the slow service. Great pub for the cost , clean & comfy bed and sleep 😴….only thing I could suggest is to have net curtains for privacy when normal curtains are open. Apart from that I will definitely be back 👍

⭐ 1/5 – The Sweet Chestnut? More like The Bitter Acorn! If you’re looking for a night of disappointment, confusion, and a trip to McDonald’s afterward, The Sweet Chestnut is the place for you! We booked a table for 8, which was very kindly accepted. However, upon arrival, it became clear that basic counting wasn’t their strong suit. They had prepared a table for 6, and their genius solution was to awkwardly wedge in two extra chairs, turning our meal into an elaborate game of elbow jousting. Sitting down felt like a game of Tetris. Things only got worse from there. The drinks order was a complete lottery, and we definitely didn’t win. A simple request for fresh orange and lemonade with no ice somehow transformed into flat lemonades with a hint of orange cordial (at least, we think it was orange—science may need to confirm). Blackcurrant & water came out as blackcurrant & flat lemonade, a small blackcurrant drink came pint sized, and the lemonade was as lifeless as my enthusiasm for the meal. Then came the highlight of the evening: the mysterious disappearing food act. The waiter confidently told the carvery folks to go up because the rest of the meals were “on their way.” Well, I guess their definition of “on the way” is somewhere between “stuck in traffic” and “lost at sea,” because 15 minutes later, the non-carvery meals were still missing in action. I half expected David Attenborough to pop out and narrate the great migration of our missing plates. When the food finally arrived, it was clear that someone in the kitchen was playing their own version of “How wrong can we make this?” The kids’ meals were missing chicken strips—ordered five, got three (maybe they were on a diet?). The under-5 meal was meant to come with small kids’ corn, but instead, we were gifted two full-sized corn on the cobs, possibly as a test of our toddler’s jaw strength. And then came the burger… I’m fairly certain it was forged in the same factory as medieval battering rams. I could have taken it home and used it as a home security device. Yes we all like our food cooked however I would also like the toddler of the group to leave with his pearly whites in tact with no requirement for a dental appointment for dessert. My gammon steak came with a side of onion rings… Well, at least that’s what they called them. In reality, I received three of the smallest onion rings I have ever seen. The chips were equally scarce—about eight in total, which is less of a portion and more of a suggestion. And my 8oz steak? I was lucky if 1oz was edible. The rest was either pure fat or so undercooked I thought it might still be planning its escape. By the end of the meal, we were left with only two options: leave a bad review or make a quick trip to McDonald’s, where at least the food doesn’t come with a built-in scavenger hunt. Needless to say, we won’t be back. However, if you’re into food-based guessing games, enjoy playing sardines at your table, or fancy leaving a restaurant hungrier than when you arrived, then by all means—book yourself a table for disappointment!

Overcooked reheated and unhygienic. To my suprise i seen and smelled the person who served me smoking cannabis in the leisure park as I drove in🤔🤡 little guy was stinking and his eyes were a mess scruffy looking beard and dude at the carvery was dopey and also looked high probably why the food was dried out overcooked yet cold at the same time. Don't come here family's shouldn't have to be around this dross paying good money for food and atmosphere only to be impeded by the smell of green and dirty staff serving food that could poison you. EHO and trading standards informed 🙏

Disappointed! The grill section of menu was unavailable apart from chicken platter as they'd run out of everything else, and they were just closing the carvery as thar was also wiped out. It was only 6pm! Then after ordering, 45 mins later I had to go to bar to see what the hold up with our food was. I ordered the mac & cheese main meal which came with garlic bread. And when I say bread I mean exactly that. It hadn't been cooked properly. One side was as if it had just been sliced off a loaf. The side with the garlic butter had briefly seen a grill, or at least long enough to melt the butter. We were not Impressed!

Most bizarre experience yesterday. We had a drink and then my partner went to the bar to get another pint as I wasn't finished. One girl (who we assume to be the manager on shift) took payment left him waiting at the bar for his drink and then sent another member of staff over to him to say she would bring it over to the table after waiting about 5 mins and some chit chat in-between . My partner then sat down and waited about another 10-15 mins to the point we wondered if they had forgotten about it. We watched as the 3 girls served other customers and showed a couple to their seats and had a good chin wag while he was still waiting. We then watched as one of the members of staff then picked up the glass for the pint and then again turned to have a other chat with colleagues. One girl continuely checked her phone in her back pocket while we were still waiting. It wasn't a busy at all. The pint that then arrived at the table was flat and no apology for the wait. Very disappointing and we left. Customer service was not great at all. Tip Don't take payments from drinks walk away from the customer, send someone else over 5 mins later ans say take a seat to then wait another 10-15 mins for the drink to arrive. Like I say bizarre! Just to add we have ran bars ourselves and know it can be hard at time but this was unexplainable.

Very nice place, very cosy and inviting. Really nice staff especially the chef Connor and Michael who were especially chatty and very kindly gave my dog some meat scraps for the carvery which she happily devoured. We all had the carvery and thoroughly enjoyed. Would defo come back.

As someone who has ate here with family a lot over the years i was massively disappointed. This place has gone so downhill and are going to price themselves out of business. We went recently for steak night and for £15 this is what i got. I had to return the steak because it could break windows, they did replace it, with one that was then very pink (medium/well done was the request) but I ate it as the other people I was there with had almost finished their main course. I did complain but they don't seem interested. Will be sticking to your sister restaurant, never had a bad meal there yet !

Amazing welcome when we arrived . Choice of seat. Colleague was quick to catch on my autistic son was having difficulties with choice of menu. He made it simple and stated what would be done to help. This was a total game changer as it allowed my son to settle and enjoy his visit. Alternative milk available as both boys are dairy free. Regular check ins at the table to ensure we were happy and if we needed anything. Service was amazing. Food very good and left with 2 very happy boys. Thank you

I walk into the Sweet Chestnut and straight away i could tell someone else was in charge. Big guy with glasses with a Newcastle accent think the power had gone to his head. Told me i need to track and trace every time i come in. I've been to the Sweet Chestnut many times and have only been asked to do it the once. The rest of the staff were friendly and helpful food and drink were good too.

4 of us had the carvery which was somewhat ok but not good enough that we would go back ,the pot that the Yorkshire puddings were in needed to be changed they had a smokey taste to them which wasn't enjoyable the cauliflower cheese was watery my son had mixed grill the steak was super tough and not cooked how he asked there was no egg either, the waitress took her time in coming for our order which is maybe protocol and still forgot one of the drinks although probably the bar persons fault as she did write it down but unfortunately it always looks bad on the waitress again it wasn't that deep things happen but I was super disappointed at the kids corner where there are a couple of table toys and a machine, one of the toys particularly was absolutely disgusting the dirt was so bad I wouldn't let the wee one touch it they have never been cleaned you can visibly see the dirt and the machine didn't work either but defo need to get there cleaner in there with antibacterial and a cloth so over all the experience was not good enough to say we would be back there's so much competition out there the standards have to change. My daughter and son in law enjoyed there burgers and the place has a lovely atmosphere.

Visited for a spot of lunch with my partner and family Loaded fries for us all. I had the BBQ Pulled Pork fries and they were delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of pulled pork on top of the fries and it tasted delicious. The three of us thoroughly enjoyed it and are in agreement that the fries had plenty of toppings. Definitely will be back for more.

Great food! We love the carvary where you can get two pieces of meat, pork, turkey or good beef and all the fixings with it with Yorkshire pudding for only $7.99 lb and drinks are exceptionally cheap. We use our tasters card and get 20% off Monday through Friday. They have great people there. Really good service. There's a pool table and dartboard that they provide darts for and only 1 lb to play a pool game. It's very nice, very clean and good drink choices. Atmospheres lovely. It's good for kids for anyone. They allow dogs as well. This place is nice. It's right by our spa and we enjoy it many times after a nice soak.

We walked in on the hope of getting a table, the young gentleman hesitated for a while before agreeing to give us a table. We ordered, food came out separately with 7 mins between them. Steak was not cooked to well done, chicken was luke warm, peppercorn sauce was cold, cut around the raw parts because he was hungry. Also got a shared dish which only fed one person, one small layer of chips and 4 goujons cut up with a sprinkle of curry sauce. We had to ask for cutlery then again for salt. No-one checked on us. We left most of our food, did not complain despite trying to get someone's attention unsuccessfully. Will not be back.

I was looking forward to having a carvery however when I seen the carvery I was very disappointed. The meat was extremely dry looking and so was the veg so I opted to have something else. I chose the lasagne which was ok the salad garnish wasn’t fresh as the tomato and cucumber were dry like they had been sitting out and the garlic bread was anaemic looking with some burnt lines obviously from a griddle. I won’t be rushing back.

Booked into the hotel due to storm eowyn which was having a serious effect on mine and my wife's complex health issues. Booked a table for us, our 11 yo daughter and mother in law. They went for three carveries which was top notch as always with food left on each plate. I went for the ultimate chicken platter and doubled up on the chips. Tbh it was a disappointment as there was items missing, one was the wrong type of chicken and the double portion of french fries looked like a single portion. Later the barman Ryan asked how everything was and I was honest with him. This is where I wish I could rate Ryan 11/10! He listened, couldn't apologise enough for something that wasn't his fault and took my meal off the bill, I wasn't looking for this as all I wanted to do was point out it was disappointing that my meal wasn't what it said on the menu. So while I had a below par meal Ryan's customer service skills means I wouldn't hesitate to come back again......but try something else lol. Was back in later to enquire about a hotel reservation and the lively Paula and JR showed the same high levels of customer service, even if Paula and Ryan wanted to leave us homeless for a night lol (hope they see this and laugh)

Lovely carvery, poor service. No one spoke to us until we were leaving apart from the chap at the carvery. Ignored at the door where we were unsure if we seat ourselves. Sat ourselves and hunted for menus. Ordered on the qr code and collected our carvery. Returned to our drinks already on the table. No one checked on us to see how things were, no plates cleared the entire hour we stayed. And the female worker Who was moaning about other customers loud enough for us to hear was very unprofessional. We won’t be back.

8 of us went to Sweet Chestnut today. The service was not good at all. Surly and unsmiling and unfriendly. Most of us ordered the Carvary but had to wait for some time for some one to serve us at the carvary. When we asked why we were told that the chef was busy cooking the burger for one of us. Our food and drink was brought to the end of the table and we were told to pass it on. Not a pleasant experience. The vegetables were as usual a bit cool and no one who had the roast beef could actually eat it.

We had high hopes for our Christmas Day dinner at Sweet Chestnut, but unfortunately, the experience was a complete disaster from start to finish. Firstly, despite having a reservation, we were left waiting at the bar for a staggering 40 minutes before being seated. Once seated, it took another 45 minutes for someone to even take our drinks order. The wait for the food was incredibly long, even though we had pre-ordered our meals. To make matters worse, the carvery ran out of food, despite the fact that our pre-orders should have been accounted for. Throughout the meal, we had to repeatedly prompt the staff for service, which was slow and inattentive. Overall, our Christmas Day dinner at Sweet Chestnut was a major disappointment. The poor service, long wait times, and lack of attention to detail completely ruined what should have been a special occasion. We would strongly advise against dining here, especially for any special event

Staff were very pleasant however half the stuff on the menu was unavailable our first choice of starter wasn’t available so we opted for the loaded fries supposed to be with pulled pork but they had ran out of pork so we accepted to have the fries without the pork the full price of the dish was £8.99 given we never had the pork we were shocked to see that we were charged for the pull price this should have been discounted given the lack of choice on the menu which was very limited.

This place was well and truly hyped up as one of the best places for food. Eight of us celebrating a birthday. 7 ordered carvery and 1 ordered burger. We were told that when the kitchen food wS nearly ready that we could go to carvery. Bearing in mi d there were 7 for carvery. We 7 were nearly all finished our meals and the burger still hadn't arrived. So customer service was appalling. As for the food. Well if you call powdered mash suitable then you will eat almost anything. The meats, roast beef that was OK. The pork was more belly pork all fat and no meat and the gammon was way too salty. The roast potatoes weren't edible. Cauliflower cheese sauce was watery. So the menu stated that you were getting a beautiful meal, well if today's example was anything to go by it was disgusting.

What can I say, not sure what my husband paid for Christmas dinner the other week, maybe £60ish per head!?! From entering it was very busy which you would expect. Got seated at a table which seating was so uncomfortable on the bench seating, sit back and you’re too far away from table sit forward and you get achy back. Firstly we waited 20-30 minutes to have a drink order taken waited a further 15minutes or so to receive drinks. Starters arrived, soup was fine apparently, I had pate and it was the worst flavourless pate I have ever had, the equally bad part was the bread it was served with, looked like brown or the bread but was oven cooked/toasted within an inch of its life and was extremely hard at really not nice. Main course when we went up was fine though cleanliness for me surfing the lids on things were awful, meat was pretty good, veg was ok, the main thing was the small plates where everything was piled, plates snn hi oils be bigger so everything is not slopped on top of everything. Desert Carmel tart was not the nicest a the desert choice was poor so it was the best option but not nice. Throughout all we had to wait to re order drinks and call over a few times to find out where drinks were. Staff were slow and hovering at times . I understand it was busy. Also last thing, Dogs… I’m a dog owner but. Don’t want to have to see dogs in a “restaurant” of sorts, especially when the get off lead and running up and down the place and listening to them barking, and I love dogs but not in a place of eating and them not been controlled it’s unhygienic and the place was filthy enough without adding in another factor. Would not go back if I was paid and we paid too much for the Christmas Day dinner and was not worth it at all.

Christmas day meal was absolutely terrible, from start to finish, not enough staff and manager should be sacked. The food cold,not cooked, everything except the sweets. Three hours we sat there, and people waiting to start their meal it was carnage. I will not blame the staff they tried their best. Not one apology from the manager.

Went there for a family birthday meal. Nothing special about the food or the quantity. Disappointed by the service with a couldn't be cared attitude. Mains being brought out when starters were still in progress.an the bill not turning up when requested. When there is a table booked in advance I don't expect to be told "I will see if there is a table" this is not a good start for customer / staff relations. Found us a table in a half empty dining room that barely fitted 4 people facing a couple just finishing their mains which afforded them no privacy. Iam not surprised they didn't stay for dessert Disappointed in the whole experience and we couldn't get out quick enough.

We’re here on Christmas Eve with the family. It’s been a very disappointing evening. No staff (it seems), waited a long time to be seated, waited 40 minutes for food. The cheeseburger was cremated, we’ve been here for 2 hours so far as our food has been so delayed. We ordered tea and coffee after dinner which took 25 minutes, and our mini doughnuts (ordered at the same time as the coffee) took an additional 20 minutes, required us to chase the order twice and were still frozen in the middle. There is just one (lovely) staff member behind the bar taking all the orders, making the drinks while taking payments - it seems that she’s the only one here holding the place together. Maybe it’s a one off, but for a family Christmas Eve meal we’re regretting our choice. I hope that they figure things out

Awful! We were a walk in around 4.30 to grab some food for my kids after seeing Santa nearby. We were seated and then just left to our own devices. We weren’t given the option of someone taking our order and they didn’t bother to inform us to order using the (very small) QR code on the table. Thankfully we noticed the code as there was no other signage on the table telling us how to order. We ordered drinks, a starter, a side and 2 kids meals. The starter arrived and when no other food came we had to go find a server and ask if we could get the kids food. The server was extremely rude and said that ‘obviously’ the starter came out first. I understand this however there’s no option to select all the food to come together on the online ordering system. Plus majority of establishments will send out kids meals first rather than waiting. When explained this she just shrugged and said she’d ask the kitchen to make the food now. The kids meals (chicken dippers and chips) then took forever to come and when it did it was clear it had been sat under a heat lamp for a while. The Chicken dippers were overcooked. One meal had carrots and they were inedible, somehow dry and mushy at the same time. The carrots hadn’t even been peeled! We’d have complained and sent it back if our kids weren’t so hungry. We ate and left asap. My partner and I work in hospitality and weren’t expecting the food to be anything amazing, we just wanted to feed our kids, but it was really terrible. Honestly though, the service was worse, every staff member looked like they didn’t want to be there. Really disappointing for somewhere that’s supposed to be family friendly.

We both had the roast and a wine and beer. The roast looked good and the beef was nicely red. The chef from Poland was enthusiastic and friendly, a real character and 10 out of 10. BUT The beef tasted awful with an acrid bitter taste. The gammon was not great and a bit chewy. Much to our surprise the turkey ( or was it chicken) was the tastiest meat and scored a good passmark. Everything else was overcooked ( we were eating at 6pm) esp the roast potatoes which were inedible and couldn't even be cut. Brocolli and carrots mediocre. Yorkshire pudding overcooked and gravy seemed ok but perhaps it was maybe responsible for the acrid taste on the beef, but I think not! We thought the meal even with a 20% off voucher , expensive and we can very easily get better meals at less cost almost everywhere else. A bad arrangement for queuing with the “wait to be seated” sign immediately at the front door so that any more than 2 persons is intruding into the main doorway.( there were 4, 6 and 8 as we were queuing and many other hotel guests unable to access or egress to building with their bags and suitcases due to the blockage. Some of those guests joined our queue in ignorance or politeness, others had to push past or wait to be let past and other hotel or bar guests had to do the same to get out. There was little attention from indoor staff to assist this situation and for over 10 mins no one was seated. The bar and meal area lacked character. Staff appeared over worked, understaffed and consequently there was a lack of attention, assistance and friendliness. ( not their fault I’m sure)

Having posted before, I'm pleased to say that after being contacted by John, we had a full and Frank discussion about a previous visit. It was acknowledged and accepted that things could have been done better on my previous visit. Having the chance to speak in person gave both of us the opportunity explain things from our own perspective. The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived but the staff made sure we got a table that was suitable for my less able wife and our little dog. The staff were attentive but not overly so (as is usually the case) and the food was excellent and well priced ( which it always is). Return visit, this time just for a cup of tea on a chilly afternoon. Restaurant was lovely and warm and as usual we were made most welcome. The Sweet Chestnut is now our regular go to place when we are in Dunfermline.

I have popped in here a few times while working near by. The carvery always caught my eye. This evening me and my Mrs. Went and were not disappointed. I decided to (finally) endulge in the carvery. Jacob was a master of slice and sauce, I very much enjoyed his patter, keeness and knowledge of the grub he was serving up. The rest of the chefs were also more than accommodating. Connor, who I believe is the head shef, went above and beyond to help us out, and make the experience very tailored. I highly recommend.

Popped in for lunch . Decided on the lunch deal (a main and a sweet) Food was unappetizing and lukewarm.. After approximately 30 minutes of finishing mains we were still waiting on empty plates to be cleared away and the desserts to arrive.. needless to say we got fed up waiting and left without the desserts ( that we'd paid for) .. won't be back !

Burgers are great and carvery is always good. Beef sometimes a little tough but the real let down is the standard of roast potatoes… surely an easy fix? They look great but taste poor!!

This is one of the friendliest Subway locations I've ever visited. The staff is always accommodating and never says no to any request. Despite being constantly busy and crowded, they remain polite and friendly to every customer. Unlike other Subway locations where toppings are often minimal, this one serves generously stuffed sandwiches with plenty of veggies and sauces.

If you like the convenience of scan and go be sure to check that it is actually open. The last two times I have used this service they have closed the scan and go area as they dont want to staff the two areas with two staff. So despite expecting to scan and go I actually had to scan and wait in the huge que with all the other non scan and go users. It would be helpful if they would put a notice up advising that scan and go was out of use at the scanner area so I have the choice to wait in a shorter line when Im making way to the very last isle walking past every other checkout in the store to use the scan and go service.
