The staff was outstanding! Friendly and helpful. We were a large group and they accommodation happily. Great place for food or drink!

We had a great family meal here (one of many!), the staff were great, very attentive and polite and the food, as always, was lovely. We will be back soon!

Enjoyed a lovely breakfast, full scottish with continental. Very good price, nice selection. Everything was cooked to order rather than a buffet. The waitress Rebecca was great.

Tried to use QR code table service, wouldn’t work. So had to ask for table service. Server wasn’t amused and was very blunt.(isn’t that what they’re paid for) food was only warm and fries felt like they were left out for a while. Pint from waiter was flat and well under a pint. Went up to bar and ordered another pint from bar lady and pint was great. Usually go here and it’s good but this time it was terrible. The waiter needs to look for another profession.

We used the ‘Scan to Order’ QR code, on the table, to make our food order. Unfortunately our food didn’t arrive for nearly 90 minutes. This would have been acceptable if the tables near us didn’t received their order before us and leave after eating the meal before ours arrived. Very disappointing, I would not recommend using the QR code to make and a food order here.

We are regulars at the sweet chestnut but tonight’s service truely outdid our expectations, we got engaged and celebrated with a carvery, shared out news with the chef Chelsea and they so kindly bought us a desert, they went out of their way to accommodate me and my partner and was overall an amazingly wonderful person. Thank you Chelsea for making our day even more special

3 of us attended, 2 had the carvery and 1 had a main menu item (Hunter's chicken) The carvery was great, no qualms there from either person that had the carvery. The hunter's chicken was not just dry but tough, not 'tough chicken' but actually dry-tough, extremely hard to cut and almost like it had been massively overcooked (very over microwaved, it felt like?) Staff were very pleasant, place was clean.

Very polite staff and quick service!

I entered the restaurant feeling hungry, without any information or recommendations. However, the atmosphere was warm, cozy, clean and well-kept restaurant. Also, my husband ordered gluten free curry and my daughter ordered pasta from the Kid's menu. Both were great. Especially, compared to the kids' menu pasta at similar-level restaurants, it appeared to be the most carefully crafted dish with children in mind. Also the pasta was served with some vegetable. I hope the quality and taste of the kids' menu pasta remain unchanged. In terms of my food, I ordered fish and chips. It was fine but it was too crispy and I felt a little bit greasy. In addition, there is a small area for kids. Even though It wasn't a place like a soft play area, but our child still enjoyed the there, perhaps because she is still young. Other than that, it was great experience. Would return again.

The meats had run out on the carvery, pinot grigio had run out, and there are not enough sraff.

Wait, wait, wait seems to be the normal here, food was burnt not worth the money way over priced for the food and service, nearly walked out had to wait ages to be served then wait ages for the food, the staff don't know how to smile quite rude to customers

The restaurant looks great, it is the lack of quality of the food. I had steak pie the pastry was hard and dry but steak and gravy was good, my chips were half cooked. My wife and two kids had the carvery, the only thing that was good was the mashed potatoes and the Gammon roast. The Yorkshire puddings, the stuffing,the roast beef and fresh veg were almost dry. We left very disappointed and didn't even bother with a sweet. They fell well short and we certainly won't go back

I stayed for four nights in Jan/Feb. My main gripe was you walk to the hotel from the car park and then see a sign saying to check in at the restaurant next door, as it was raining it wasn’t ideal! The room was comfortable and warm although they gave me a room with two single beds pushed together which wasn’t the best! Bathroom was ok, with a shower over the bath which was operated with the bath taps which can never be fully controlled! The Shower curtain wasn’t very appealing, a better bet would be to install a walk in shower and forgo the bath!

Was in on 28th jan just after 17.00 and i enjoyed my meal the girl on carvery was nice and able to give me all info about what was what and how was cooked she seemed happy to assist aswell meal from kitchen was ok seemed little rushed. But all in good little place

We went in on a Tuesday and saw they had a cavery on so we both got tickets. The two girls working behind the bar were lovely. When we got closer there was a really, small, sad, dehydrated end of roast beef, a side of ham that looked okay and what looked to be maybe a side of rectangular turkey. Obviously we were not mega impressed but it was the veg that killed it for us. There was this dish of stuffing that had dried hard and all the vegetable looked like they'd been out for days. 5 or 6 trays of parched shapeless ex vegetation that had all morphed into a green/orange beige colour. We went back to the bar and asked for a refund, the manager arrived and did it for us no problem. He didn't ask us why. We stayed a minute or two to finish our drinks and we did see him mosey over and poke a spoon in the gravy and then go back to what he was doing. Not sure if he thought it looked okay or had just lost the will to care. We stayed at the hotel attached to the Sweet chestnut and the girl had said they did a special carvery on a Sunday. Pretty sure by special it must mean Sunday is the day it is fresh. To be fair we didn't actually eat the cavery so this whole review is based on aesthetics which were, it can't be understated, truly boke.

Very good. Met at reception and shown to our dog friendly table. Host got water and biscuits for the dogs. We had the carvery, very good, as good as the well known carvery brand.

The food was tasty and wholesome, my only issue was the carvery wasn't as hot as I would have liked. The place was quiet but cosy and the staff were excellent.

Visited here with my family yesterday night. The place has a lovely warm atmosphere the second you walk through the door. We were very impressed with our meals, 2 of us ordered meals from the menu and 1 of us chose to have the carvery, unfortunately it took around 30/40 minutes for the 2 meals to arrive so by then the person who had the carvery was almost finished. Despite the slightly long wait however, we had a lovely time here and enjoyed our meals a lot. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

First visit here and was really disappointed. 7 pm on a Friday ordered 2 sirloin steaks to find only 1 was left. No child menu offered had to ask when ordering if one was available. Medium steak arrived cooked perfectly but could only taste the Charred overgrilled oustide. The topping was the visit to the toilet, a graffiti ridden wall and cold water from the hot taps. Sorry guys 1st and last visit from us.

Food was perfectly cooked and service good attention to customer requirements. Would have another lunch there.

Very poor met with rude staff at the door. We came specifically for the carvery once we had a look it looked as though all the meat had been out all day and completely dried out practically no accompaniments for it genuinely looked pathetic so we decided to leave immediately and won't be back!!! I drove my family 40mins for this extremely disappointing experience. Overall extremely disappointing experience!!!

Visited for lunch, not impressed. Due to qr codes where you can order at your table you barely see anyone and no one came to check if we/ food were ok. Food came out with black bits all over them clearly from old oil in the fryers. Wouldn’t recommend at all

Dining with a friend. Excellent food and service. The carvery was delicious and the apple pie very warming on a cold damp day. We will always return here because the level of service and quality of food is excellent.

Was disappointed that my children amd grandchildren were all finished their meals and o was waiting foe a soup to start then burger I had to ask table staff Apart from that food was really good

I attended 18/12/23, with our dog because this is a dog friendly restaurant which is wonderful. The bar staff are lovely and very helpful, they were quick to offer us water water for our dog. The Chef Cameron is also lovely, cheerful and friendly, food was excellent and great value for money. We loved the friendliness , affordability and the fact we could take our much loved dog.

Friendly welcome and really good service. Food was excellent, My lamb shank took a bit longer than thought to cook, but we were kept informed, and rather than serve it under done, they kept to a high professional standard, and when it came, it was perfect- much appreciated- ( and it gave Irene a head start, we finished together!) She had the roast turkey, and your roasts are always top rate, as it was this time. All in all-excellent, thank you very much.

Had Christmas Dinner here today and it was good. I had the Lamb Shank and it was delicious. The Carvery looked amazing and food was plentiful. The staff were lovely and very much on top of things and we weren’t rushed. The food came out well timed. A good experience

Was here tonight for a family meal, I had the carvery along with a few others. Service was great, restaurant was clean, and had a great atmosphere. Believe we were served by Dillon, although I may be wrong. Very lovely and chatty and quick to clear plates and kindly let us know when the food from the kitchen was nearly ready so we could all get our carvery and eat together. All in all a great night and will definitely be back!

One of the worst breakfasts we have had. The majority of the full fried breakfast was left due to it being burnt. Poached egg was more like boiled when I brought this up didn’t seem too concerned. Got the impression complaints were the norm. Wouldn’t waste your money there.

Popped in for food, after shopping in Dobbies. Never been here before, and was a nice surprise. We were shown to our table quickly and told of the menu and facilities. We ordered fish & chips twice and very nice it was. Food was hot and tasty, I’ve never been a fan of frozen chips, which too many restaurants use nowadays. But whatever chips they are using, were good, hot and tasty. The staff are engaging and happy to stand and chat/laugh with you. The food arrived quickly after order and so did the drinks. Plenty of options for seating, however some seats are showing their age. If you have any physical disabilities, you will be fine here. The tables are not stacked on top of each other, so plenty of room to Manoeuvre. Would I go again? Most definitely

I think the carvery buffet had been sitting for a while, it was lukewarm. Maybe it's best going a bit early next time. The chef was amazing and very friendly.

We had a family lunch the other day, and there were 7 of us. Food all came at the same time, which was good. Everyone throughly enjoy their meal, no complaints whatsoever, portion sizes were just perfect. The only thing that was a bit of a pain was ordering. It's one of those all to popular places now that you order on an app or go to the counter and order. When there's a bunch of you, that's a hassle. But seems to be a trend, I'm seeing it in more and more restaurants. However, that wouldn't stop me from going again .

Awful. Worst carvery ever. Do not eat here. Food was lukewarm, pigs in blankets were rock hard, dry, and black inside, roast potatoes were not crispy, and none of the food had much taste to it. It was worse than my attempt at a roast dinner. We ordered a side of broccoli cheese which turned out to be a thick paste of cheese, burnt on top, with little bits of broccoli sticking out and a large pool of water underneath. All of the food seemed microwaved or reheated. Thankfully the staff were kind enough to refund the sides we ordered, but I will not be returning here again and recommend you travel a bit further to another carvery restaurant.

We are regulars at the sweet chestnut but last nights service was truly brilliant, staff was so polite and helpful, Cammy was hilarious and enthusiastic, Connor was attentive/alert and Sky was so friendly and exceptional. This place is amazing for date nights or family time, food is always spectacular and I would rate it higher if I could.

When we arrived we stood at the door waiting on someone to come and seat us, 2 members of staff was stood talking to each other behind the bar and not one of the said anything to us, when they had stop talking to each other the man shouted from the bar someone will be with soon, the girl that he was talking walked right passed us with a bottle of cleaner in her hand, then someone came up to the bar so the man behind the bar served him, then he come over to us and he then seated us, myself & my granddaughter had the carvery regular plates, it was very poor and not edible everything was so dried out the man that was serving the carvery had to go and get us Yorkshire puddings which was put on top of everything and they was cold, the meat was just slapped on top of each other in the middle of the plate, which resulted in everything being piled up we eat some of the meat and nothing else, no one came over to our table to ask if everything was alright, when the guy that seated us came to collect the plates didn’t even ask what was wrong why we had left so much he said nothing, also while we was eating our meals him and another girl was cleaning and setting up tablets for the morning time they sacked and the menu’s behind our heads and all round us as we was the only ones sitting there so we couldn’t see anything from start to finish our visit was very poor and so was the food we was all disappointed with the experience we received so we left hungry and disappointed and had to go to Macdonalds to get something to eat I wouldn’t recommend the sweet chestnut to anyone, we was so looking forward to going my daughter & I got a pudding and so did my granddaughter & her friend, to try and make us feel like we had something to eat, it cost me just over £64 and then another £15 at McDonalds so I wasn’t very happy having to pay all that for food.

My friend and I arrived from Cyprus and are staying in the Sweet Chestnut for one week with my family. As we are here for a week, the lack of storage is an issue and also we had to turn the mattress on the single bed as you could feel the springs. We had to ask for tea, sugar etc as it hadn't been topped up.

The food and service were ok. The kids pasta wasn't enough. It was a really tiny portion. I cant believe you pay a tip before service. They're not quick to clear your table. You have to order at the bar. And obviously if you get a carvery, you get your own. The place was clean though. The table was a bit sticky. But I think that's just the stuff they use to clean the tables. Plenty parking spaces. And wheel chair access as well as disabled toilets. The toilets were spotless. I wouldn't say I wouldn't go back. But it wouldn't be my 1st pick just because of the tip thing. Sorry.

Absolutely lovely food the chef was brilliant with my 3 children and so friendly tonight 15th December 2023. Bringing drinks was abit slow but apart from that lovely all round well done to the chef tonight thank u and I'm sure we will be back again.

Came for an evening carvery bad mistake food not fresh at all roast potatoes were solid and not good at all. Carrots dry and Yorkshire pudding stone cold also watery gravy with no taste don’t think I’ll be back shame as we are quite regular customers.

Christmas festive lunch went without hitch after a bit trouble booking but was settled eventually . Great service and food , professional attentive staff And my food intolerances were met

The staff couldn't of been anymore helpful, l was early and they made me feel right at home waiting on friends arriving... 1 friend was actually a bit late too and they didn't rush us at all, said it was no problem. The meal was lovely, great selection of fresh vegetables at carvery, l love picking just the things and amounts of each item l want, like 7 peas, 4 carrots, 2 roasters with half a plate of cauliflower cheese and nobody bats an eyelid... if l asked for that with a meal anywhere else, l'd get told that's not how the chef serves it! 🤭💕

Coffee arrived Luke warm had to be changed which fair play was done without a fuss, main meal was fine apart from microwave steak pie which was rubbery, then desert took 20 mins to arrive and it wasn't busy. So all in all a bad experience. So even getting a reply from Sweet Chestnut asking to ring them is to difficult for them as they answer then hang up.

Went for the carvery. Completely desimated, had to wait for mashed potatoes, roast potatoes for over 5 minutes, the people behind us had to wait for Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese as well as the potatoes.

Had the carvery today, was awful. Meat full of fat, roast potatoes was hard/soggy. Partner had the steak pie, said it was just warm and beef was like jelly. Only thing he enjoyed was the mushy peas. We hardly ate any. Avoid

Food cold. I was there a couple of weeks ago and had to return my meal as it was cold. Sorry but everything on carvery cold and dried out. We won't get back

Can't fault the quality of the food. As a big group it was a little awkward ordering at the bar then the servers seemed a little confused bringing us dishes that were not for us and not bringing dishes we had ordered. We were also dining with young children, after being a dobbies for Santa we felt this was a good family place for afterwards. Unfortunately there was a table of very loud women behind us which is fine but the language they were using made it a slightly uncomfortable experience. I appreciate it's Christmas and big groups are out for fun but may be worth paying attention to the behaviour of some.

Absolutely diabolical, a customer Infront me who was a chef got served bone dry beef and was fobbed off with that's how we serve it 🤣 then I waited 15 mins "no exaggeration" for roast spuds get that man out of the kitchen his food is terrible and non existent I now have to sit in Tony macaroni with my mate and eat on my own Infront of him instead of dining together...... Shocking experience never again

Arrived without a booking and was given a table ,, the head chef Cammy was brilliant friendly and chatty ,, the pork belly had the best crackling . The chocolate cakes was to die for and fresh 😋, will definitely come back very soon

It took a long time for the food to be served , over charged me . Desert was ice cream in a glass jar waited almost 10 mins for it to arrive Wouldn't recommend as there was approximately 5 people in the restaurant

This is a sweet chestnut my friend and I had an amazing carvery. It was really nice the head chef Cameron served us and brought it over as I walking difficulty’s and the waitress s were cheerful and pleasant and not to forget the chefs...

Had a lovely meal from the carvery. Generous helpings. Would dine there again. Very pleasant staff and excellent and quick service.

The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived but the staff made sure we got a table that was suitable for my less able wife and our little dog. The staff were attentive but not overly so (as is usually the case) and the food was excellent and well priced ( which it always is)

We had the carvery for a family Sunday roast, all of the food was amazing, the meats were tender and delicious, I particularly liked the pork belly but the beef and gammon were top notch as well, the veggies were awesome, the cheesy cauliflower was amazing and so we're the carrots and stewed red cabbage, the stuffing was on another level, full of flavour and nice and moist without being too wet and to top it all off the Yorkshire puddings were the best I'd ever had, crunchy but a little soft on the inside and they tasted so good, and the sauce options were awesome too the gravy was great and the cranberry sauce was the best I've had to date, the desserts were all amazing as well, the perfect sweet end to a beautiful dinner, the service was excellent the carvery chef was quick but attentive and the bar and floor staff were friendly and professional, we'll definitely be back again.

First impressions from the waitress serving us was unprofessional and quite rude. I asked for some water to which she made a face and repeated my order in a sarcastic tone. Once finished the meal we were asked by the same waitress if we wanted...

First time back in a couple of years, great place for a good meal.

Terrible. Came in for Sunday roast, gammon had more fat than meat. No roast potatoes either. Waiting over 50 minutes for roast potatoes so had to settle for mash instead. Paid extra for the pigs in blankets but didn’t have any ready so paid for them but never got them. I will not be using this restaurant again.

Was very busy food not quite up to usual standard

Very Saddened by my visit today as i traveled 420 MILES AND HAD TO GO ON A TRAIN AND A PLANE AND A CAR VERY VERY ANGRY NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN SCAM. I WOULD PUT 0 STAR IF I COULD ALL BECAUSE OF THE VERY BAD CARVARY.

So shocked! MC Donald's style: no greeting and the guy points your table from far then only comes back to tell you have to order at the bar then he never comes back. The cutlery is in the box on the table with the menus, for how long has it been there, don't know. Paying at the bar and they ask you to take your drinks back to the table yourself!!!!!. Eventually served very rudely. It was not busy the staff were laughing together and not caring for their clients. Others had the same treatment. Just like McDonald's but you pay more. We wanted to try in view of coming on Christmas too if it's ok. Glad we came and will never come back. I never complain or rate people but this time is just too much. The manager was there and it all seemed ok for him. The only professional attitude and genuine care for clients came from the cook. A credit to your company. As for the others, change job. I've never experienced things like this before and I'm in my 50s. Quite frankly it's disgusting 😡

I didn’t think it was explained upon arrival that we were to order and it wasn’t table service, as when we arrived we seen drinks being delivered to tables but ours wasn’t which I found confusing. We had booked a table but the waitress wasn’t confident in knowing where we were to be seated. Carvary when we went up we were also expected to know where gravy’s etc was having never been none of this was explained. Also we didn’t know the protocol. Didn’t find some staff happy or approachable

Great food, great staff. Had a wonderful time there. Yet again it was fantastic.

The breakfast selection and value is fantastic but what made the experience great was the member of staff that served myself and my daughter, John. He was very friendly and welcoming and it was not a problem that my daughter requested things on the side rather than on top etc. Just overall a lovely experience and we will definitely be back!

The staff member who was waiting on us was really pleasant but there was on herself on by us. She was being called on by all the tables while trying to clear and clean tables as well as putting orders through. It seemed like the food took quite a while to come out which wasn't great with 2 hungry children but the food was hot and delicious.

Carvery is great, good food for a good price but service was awful. Led to the table by someone who clearly didn’t want to be there and once initially served it was like our table had an invisibility cloak over it. Eventually we got the attention of a waitress, asked for the bill and it didn’t arrive. Another 15 minutes and we had to hunt down another waitress. Really one of the worst service experiences we have had for years.

Could only order carvery!!! Was told by a member of staff they had no gas ... waited at the carvery station for some time before we finally got served. Overall, the food was OK for the price, but the beef was tuff ..

Been here years ago (2018). And have been back just a day or two ago! My mum has never been. So she is a carvery virgin. And she was absolutely in love with the carvery. The sweet chestnut is an amazing place to have a carvery OR any other food is also available. But the carvery is out of this world. The meat is amazing. All the side dishes as well are to die for. I cannot recommend this enough!! Food was delicious and the staff were so kind and considerate and really friendly and helpful for us as well. They offer so much, and it just made me and my mum really happy and had a good day as well! Because we haven't had a proper day out in a long long time. And we enjoyed every minute of it. Thankyou so much.
