The food here is a disgrace, and a total rip off, one of the worst tourist traps I have ever fell into. Cottage pie was not nice, the server took 3 goes to make sure the portion was not large, served with a small scoop of frozen veg, £9!!!!!. Small pieces of cake too. Lemon cake was nice. The place looked clean, the staff looked miserable. So poor quality food at extortionate prices, its a hard no from me.

The worst tourist trap I have ever fallen in to. Poor quality food at extortionate prices. Cottage pie had to be the worst I have ever had, and server worked very hard to make sure you did not get too much, he had to try a few times as he was picking up too much, same with the cheap frozen veg. Lemon cake was OK but very thin slice.

The worst breakfast in Scotland I have ever had. Saturday 10am (it opens at 9) three adults for full breakfasts at self service buffet. We had to wait for eggs to be fried. Why did we have to wait so long, because they had to overcook them until the yolks were hard almost all of the way through. The bacon must have been cooked at 9 as it was a slightly warm rubber rasher with a dark face finish. The luke warm almost cooked link sausages matched the temperature of the black pudding which was probably well cooked an hour ago but did not improve under heat for so long so had a hard surface and rubberising centre. The mushrooms were good. Having toured Scotland for a week each year for forty+ years, I have always been impressed with Scottish breakfasts until this. We have eaten here in years gone by, it looks like the once impressive quality here has also gone by. What a shame.

Usually stop off here when travelling to or from Scotland. Nice coffee but the scones here are extremely crumbly and fell apart when I was trying to spread some clotted cream, which, by the way, costs an eye watering £1.15 for just a small tub. They know how to get you in a place like this that’s for sure.

I had the jacket potato and chilli, the chilli was unfortunately dry and the potato could have done with some butter or something to moisten it, my wife had the lasagne and chips and that was also dry, the chips were cold and had been allowed to dry out. However the worst part was the fact that the cutlery was dirty and just hadn't been washed properly, a real downer. I guess they rely on being a captive market with the visitors to the blacksmiths shop.

Stopped off at Gretna on a long coach journey south and grabbed some lunch at this self-service restaurant. It's more a food court really, very light and airy with plenty of seating inside and out but it was very crowded when I was there. Counter service somewhat rushed and we had to help ourselves to tea and coffee from a machine. They do cooked meals and sandwiches (with vegetarian options), scones and cakes. Decided on the jacket potato with chilli. The potato was okay but the chilli was a bit too hot and spicy for my liking and the coffee was very strong. The meal was generally only average quality and not worth the £8.70 I paid for it. The village itself is very touristy but pleasant to stroll around and there were some nice shops.

We booked at The Blacksmiths Shop for the handfasting ceremony, it was so lovely, could not fault it all. It was only myself and my husband so we thought we would just have a nice wee drink together to celebrate, so we went to the bar, no one there to serve us...we had to wait a good while before someone appeared. We ordered 2 drinks, first one he gave me a small bottle of tonic water instead of soda, when I asked for it to be changed he didn't seem happy and refunded me £1 even though the bottle of tonic was £2.50! And the soda was draught. My husband ordered a pint of lager to which he got about 3/4 of a pint as the keg had run out...the barman's reply was "the kegs ran out and I don't know how to change it so Il just refund you a couple of pounds" I also asked for ice to which my reply was "I don't have any, do you really need it as it'll take me a wee while to get it as I've got other things to do as we are so busy" he eventually came back with ice after I had drank most of my warm drink, my husband's short pint was terrible as it was basically the dregs of the barrel. All in all a very disappointing experience after such a lovely celebration, our plan was to stay in that area all day but after that we decided to go elsewhere, we went down to The Gretna Inn and had a wonderful day.

After a week long holiday at Windermere we were on our way home to Livingston, West Lothian. Gretna Green is a regular stopping point on such journeys in order to stretch our legs, use the toilet facilities, and have some refreshments as it is about mid point in travelling time between the two.Because of the effect that Covid 19 was having on the country we have never seen the car park at Gretna Green so quiet. Also some of the attractions/shops were shut. Blacksmiths Restaurant was however open. It had been our intention to get a packet of sandwiches each and a coffee. The sandwiches when we saw them looked deadly dull. Poor looking bread and basic, really basic, looking fillings. We deided then to have a bowl of soup each along with a roll. The soup was actually very tasty, some sort of vegetable mix but the rolls had been pre prepared with some sort of foul tasting spread, we didn't think it was butter, and we had to scrape it off the rolls. We really should have bought sandwiches at the Booths Supermarket in Windermere before we set off on our journey.

Never stay at this hotel. The restaurant food is delicious and large portions. My family use to regularly eat here every Sunday before Covid. After Covid there's a staff shortage that affects the quality of the services. I only visit the restaurant again because the hotel is closing on the June 2nd this year. It is sad to see the hotel close. Hopefully someone buys this hotel and turn it into an apartments.

Excellent service with you ordering everything from your table which is very convenient. Good choice of food although children’s menu could be better and there were no pizzas which dissapointed our youngest grandchild. We all enjoyed what we ordered and look forward to calling again soon.
