Popped in for breakfast. 1 vegetarian and 1 Scottish. Plenty choices, great portions, tasty maple syrup pancakes and great service. Maybe a bit pricey at almost £20 but the food was good.

Visited with my 4 year old grandson who absolutely loves it here. He had a pancake with syrup and I asked for the same however the adult portion is 2 pancakes and they were massive and I couldn't finish them. Grandson finished his though. It was really busy so a bit of a wait to be served. The order was slightly wrong when it arrived and I had to ask for cutlery. It's not cheap though was over £10 for that but the pancakes were delicious.

Myself and my kids love to come here for a pancake but unfortunately we cant often as the prices are just ridiculous, They are prices you would expect in a high end city eatery. Lower the prices to an affordable dessert price of around £4.95 and I can guarantee you will have people queuing out the door,

My friend and I went in today for some food and a catch up, there was a really rude young girl that didn't crack a smile once, came over with a 'what do you want' attitude. My friends food came out cold so I took it up towards the kitchen and it was replaced with a fresh one, although it still wasn't great. My food was okay but then when we were almost finished, my friend was finishing some bits off my plate and the girl came over and said 'are you finished' while my friend was literally still eating and she took the plates away while my friend had food in her hand which was awful, no pleases or thank yous. We got pancakes to share and as we were about to leave we went to pay so I paid my share and the same girl didnt even tell my friend the cost of her food, she just waited for my friend to get her payment out. For someone who works in the same industry, serving customers, I am quite forgiving but this was another level of rubbish. Lot of money for what you get too. Can't say I would recommend.

Okay. I had a deluxe sweet pancake and at £8.95 you might think a tad expensive but it was worth every penny. It’s no good trying to describe it. You have to experience it to understand. Be prepared for a possible wait. It’s that popular. Your tastebuds will thank you for any wait!

In Dumfries for the day and after finding “The Pancake Place” on trip advisor we decided to go here for some food and of course some pancakes! We arrived just before 3pm on a Sunday (website says they close at 4pm). We ordered food which came out really quickly and was really tasty and at approx 3:15pm my partner asks if he can order me another drink and if he can order pancakes. Waiter takes the order and goes up to the kitchen and then returns advising the grills have been turned off so he can’t have pancakes. He did apologise and said we wouldn’t need to pay for the second drink I got due to us not being able to get the pancakes but in my opinion it’s really not very good customer service considering it’s 45 minutes till the place shuts and nobody thinks to approach customers to see if there’s anything else they would like to order before shutting off the grills. We only went here because it was a pancake place and the reviews seemed pretty good. Disappointing to go to the pancake place and not be able to get pancakes because someone clearly wanted to go home early!!

Forget the Trump connections with Scotland, here in Dumfries there is a quiet little corner of pure Americana plying its trade since 1973. It may only be open until early evening but this is the place to be if you love your pancake stack with lashings of some fruit on the side. There is an appetising range, but I couldn't resist the blueberry offering. It may not be a typically authentic American diner, but all of the trappings are here. Well worth a visit, as one of Dumfries quiet little hidden surprises.

Went in on Saturday afternoon 4th May. It wasn’t as busy as previous visits. The service was really slow and it was 40 mins before we got any food. We only ordered pancakes. Not good for anyone on their lunch hour. There were 2 young girls training who were both very pleasant and seemed to be doing their best but the lady with the blonde hair who seemed to be overseeing them was on her phone commenting on Facebook posts. We didn’t manage to get all our shopping done as we didn’t have much of our 2 hour parking window left after our lunch. Don’t think I’ll be back for a while.

Having read a mixed bunch of reviews on here we decided to give this place a go for brunch, and really glad we did. Whilst the decor is a bit old, the warm welcome we received made up for it and we settled in to a table by the window. The pancake menu is extensive with 'healthy' and less healthy versions available.... obviously my husband and I went 'healthy' and the children went for some chocolate and marshmallow covered mountains! In all cases they looked and tasted lovely, with the pancakes being light and fluffy. I can't comment on the other food available, but if you want pancakes, you'll be hard pushed to beat this place.

Saw this place and husband a pancake fan.looked on reviews and good and bad,so we decided to try it. From outside clearly showing pancake place and looking good. We came in helped ourself to a seat .a waitress came over and gave us menus. 4 page menu with big selection of sweet pancakes of all sorts, also cooked foods and even small version size of pancakes. Any way eventually we decided. Hubby had Alaskan and i had apple stacker .and hot chocolate and decaff latte. We waited a few minutes and cook brought out pancakes. Quite big portion. Huge pancake with banana, fresh cream and ice cream for hubby and for me spiced warmed apple with layers of pancakes syrup and fresh cream. Delicious for boyh of use. Overall nice place, but only 1 waitress serving, taking orders and sorting bills. She is a super waitress doing a great job. Overall a good pancake place

The worst experience we have ever had here. The garlic bread was undercooked and soggy. The pancakes were dense and stodgy. When we told the waiter this, he returned to the kitchen to ask the cook who could loudly be heard saying ‘ah there wasn’t enough baking soda in the batter’ and laughing it off. So unprofessional, the waiter never even bothered to return to our table to inform us and when my partner explained he didn’t think we should be paying full price for such a dismal meal, he simply shrugged and offered us a measly 10% off. Shocking service and even worse food. Never again.

Me and my husband came in for lunch. The waitress came over and gave us two menus. Straight after another waitress came over and asked if we had menus. When it came to ordering i had to say my order 3 times very slowly before she wrote it down. I asked for my Baguette first then pancakes after. My husband ordered an ice cream drink and espresso. After ordering another waitress came over and asked if we had ordered! Very annoying. Our food came out. But my pancakes came out at the same time as my Baguette. My husbands espresso still hadn't came but the waitress did apologise. Food was amazing can't fault it but the staff are rubbish. We couldn't enjoy our lunch without being asked by 3 different waitresses if we had menus when we were clearly sitting reading them.

Popped in on our way to an Easter break away as the menu looked lovely. Both waitresses were really nice and welcoming but the food was awful. We ordered the club sandwich- not even a small handful of chicken in this triple sandwich, pea size amount of mayo, pathetic amount of bacon, one piece of lettuce and a quarter slice of tomato. Side salad wasn't the freshest but the chips were ok. My husband got the steak sandwich and his was the same. Almost £30 we spent and we had to purchase another "lunch" an hour later. I understand given the name that they may specialise in pancakes but for them to offer delicious sounding food at an upper level cost and turn what they did out of their kitchen is an absolute embarrassment. We won't be back. Complete waste of £30.

We came in and the place was a mess. There were three tables covered in used food when we came in and when we left there were another three that hadn't been cleaned on the other sideAfter we had gotten our milkshakes our server headed back to the kitchen and then we heard him say " I'm going out for a well deserved FAG" I feel this is unprofessional and highly inappropriate as this is a family friendly establishment. Our milkshakes that we received were meant to be made with ice cream yet were thinner than water and quite tasteless. Considering it was £6.50 for some milky water I was highly unimpressed. Will not be returning as I had originally asked for a Nutella milkshake with the intention of ordering Nutella pancakes but they were out of Nutella despite the special being a "Nutella ice cream milkshake"Overall high unsatisfactory and will not recommend to anyone I know

I was concerned to see that one of the waitresses looked as if she had walked in off the street as she was wearing an unfastened hoodie, which trailed in the food she was delivering to table, she also scratched her hair and her face and then proceeded to collect cutlery from the drawer to set a table. Not very hygienic and not professionally dressed. I spoke to the manager about this and she said she would have a word, but this should never have happened in a food establishment. I had visited this establishment once before nearly a year ago. I was not impressed then and was not planning to return but today my friend's children asked to go there for pancakes so we obliged. To keep a long story short: we initially ordered -or tried to- a kids meal, a pancake, two coffees and a milkshake & said we will take a better look at the menu and let our waitress know for more stuff as we were planning on having something savoury for brunch-lunch. We received the drinks, pancake & the main course from the kids menu (the meal deal said a main, a small drink & an ice cream or saucy pancake for an extra £1 which is what we requested) but the rest of it never arrived. I tried to get our waitress' attention so we could order some more stuff but when I finally saw her looking our way and waved she walked towards us, stopped at the table behind us to take their order and then disappeared again. Needless to say the kids were getting impatient and hungry as were we. After waiting for another good while for the waitress to appear I actually had to call out to get her attention - clearly she was not impressed but neither were we at that stage. Therefore we simply asked for the bill and went elsewhere for our meal. In addition to the poor service, the food is simply overpriced for what it is. The chicken nuggets on the kids main were frozen - mcdonald's style. I wouldn't be surprised if the pancakes are as well. There was a blob of lemon marmalade, a scoop of ice cream and some whip cream from a can (!!!) on it. That most definitely does not justify nearly £7 in my book. The coffee was terrible as well & I never even finished mine. In total we paid £19.90 and it was most certainly not worth it - especially considering the kids day with their mom was spoilt.

With it being a horrible Saturday afternoon we thought we would treat ourself for lunch and go to your restaurant because every time we had been before it had been great so we're expecting a lovely afternoon much...Well that didn't turn out to plan! Was one of the worst meals we've ever had... My boyfriend had the cheese and ham panini which the cheese wasn't even melted, it was rock solid in the middle and the curly fries weren't even cooked properly..I had the macaroni cheese if that's what you wanted to call it, it was more like dry as anything pasta with some melted cheese over the top.. It was horrid..With us being younger costumers we didn't want to be cheeky and complain, so we just paid and left! Defiantly was not worth the £19.10 we paid..Plus the service was also really slow, it also doesn't hurt to smile!

And our meals came she literally just put them on the table and walked away. The height of rudeness! Made us feel like we shouldn't have came in. Such a shame as the guy who works (presumably the manager) always is so polite and professional! Completely disappointed as I used to enjoy going and had always gone during my child hood :(

We called here for on our way home to Newcastle from Ayrshire and the longer journey was well worth it. My wife is a vegetarian who can't eat gluten so their menu is why we chose this place. Four out of six of us had the pancakes and they all enjoyed them and my son and myself had a panini. I had a haggis one and my son had a BBQ chicken one and they were both excellent. With a drink each the bill was £47 which I though was excellent value for a very good place

Had lunch here with daughter and grandson. Staff could not have been more helpful with organising highchair and helping carry buggy to storage point. Food and service was great and busy cosy atmosphere in restaurant.

Went here as a group of five at the beginning of October. The place was relatively busy as it was lunch time so there was a little wait for food which was expected. The Nacho Burger was very good but other members of our party had chicken with their meals and it was inedible. The service was the worst thing about this place. The woman who served us came across as inconvenienced by our presence. Friendly would be the last word I would use to describe her. It was a shame because other members of staff working at the time appeared to be very friendly and approachable. Perhaps she was just having a bad day? Extremely put off a return visit by the attitude of our server but the food was okay for the price.

Don't think just go!!!. Loved it, extremely glad we found no other place open on the Sunday we visited Dumfries itself!!. My boyfriend had a huge breakfast which filled him right up, i opted for a jacket potato, even though they had plenty other Vegi options and had some pancakes for pudding which we couldn't finish off!. Loved it and are planning our trip back next year on our route to Isle of Mull :-)

I have read many of the previously reviews, and I am sadden by the put downs. I have eaten here on many occasions, and I have nothing but praise for the staff. Particularly Kyle, who always has a smile, and nothing is too much trouble.I have always enjoyed the food, and Yes it maybe a little expensive but worth every penny.I cannot recommend this place enough

For being a relatively quiet eatery, you'd expect some smiles and friendly service. What you'll find is some raggedy teenage staff with the apparent social decorum of field goats... With only one other table (who were already eating), you'd think one table with one order (a sharing platter - will describe this abomination later) would be simple & swift. Instead, greeted by a young man who was extremely rough in appearance (god knows you'd be drinking yourself to sleep at the thought of working in this place the next day). The waitress gave the impression we had somehow inconvenienced her, like she had other things to do at work......you know, other than work...'Service with a smile', if you want to have a cheeky grin thrown your way after 45 minutes of waiting for your table to be cleared.Cleared of what I hear you ask? A sharing platter, quickly defrosted in a grease fryer and blander than a nun's kneecap. As the 'Pancake Place' would suggest, there were pancakes.. or what I think they tried to pass them off as. 'Fresh' cream that was so sour our 2 year old wouldn't even touch it. The chocolate sauce was very, very bitter, which didn't help ease the leathery texture of the served up with a 'smile' Rocky Road horror show they had presented us with. There are positives to this funeral of an eat out, the waitress removed the pancake from the bill (less than a mouthful was eaten) and the young man took the pram out back - probably to make way for all of the dozens of other pancake enthusiasts that were on their way back inside after emptying the guts onto the street outside.£15 for a sharing platter (4 onion rings, 5 breaded mushrooms, a dozen potato wedges, and some nachos topped with cheese slices) and 2 glasses of Irn Bru.But hey it was all served with a smile..

Visited here whilst on a camping trip nearby. It had rained for 3 days solid so we couldn't be bothered cooking outside again. My daughter picked this place because she loves pancakes. We both ordered macaroni cheese, a milkshake and pancakes for desert. The pancakes are nothing to shout about and were covered in strawberry syrup. The macaroni cheese is the worst I have eaten anywhere including tinned versions. Service was great, very friendly and helpful. Shame about the food. Not cheap either.

Sometimes less is more. We (2 adults in their 40s and a child aged 9) were recommended The Pancake Place by our 15 year old niece/cousin. Direct quote "They do great pancakes with lots of stuff, like syrup and cream, like".Man alive. I am a reasonably healthy gent. I can run a sub 3:30 marathon and have a generally healthy diet. I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YOU THE SUGAR 'RUSH' I EXPERIENCED. (But I'll try).Us adults ordered the bacon stack. This was actually quite good, maybe more bacon and less maple (flavoured) syrup but OK. Our 3rd, sweet-toothed member went for The Canadian. A pancake with maple syrup and fresh(?) (squirty) cream. Her plate was literally swimming in a maple-cream sea (Less syrup and maybe a spoon of decent clotted cream? Sometimes less is more). Anyway, after 2 mouthfuls, she (who lives on a confectionary-based diet) gave up. I stepped up to the plate and gave her what was left of my plate and I ate hers. About 3 hours later I came down from my sugar high. It had not been a nice place to be. The 3 dishes plus a milkshake and a coffee came to £25 so it's not cheap. The staff were polite, the place was clean. I didn't visit the toilets but apparently, according to my wife were "pretty grim'.Maybe this place IS awesome if you're a 15 year old girl who lives on a diet of chocolate and sugar. It's definitely NOT for me (at least for the pancakes anyway!).

My mum and I went last month and the service was ok but the food was terrible. Asked for 2 different types of milkshakes but they were out of the ingredients for both of them. After we finally got our drinks our toasties arrived I had no onion in my cheese and onion toastie and to top it off they arrived burnt and really hard. Won't be buying them again, I'll stick to the pancakes if I go back

Visited with my mum and 3year old son last month for the first... And last time! Service was slow but it was quite busy, my mum ordered a burger fries salad etc but the burger was cold and red/ pink in the middle so she most of it once realising, i had the "macaroni cheese" and chips, there idea of macaroni cheese is plain pasta with melted stringy cheese on top no cheese sauce was disgusting! So again that was left aswell we complained and still where expected to pay for the meals in full no apology alternative discount etc so we wont be back, upon leaving the premises we spoke to a few locals in the town which we found out they had bad reviews of the place also if only we had met them before entering! :(

We took some young family members here and had a pleasant light lunch. Quite a good menu. Between us, we had American pancakes, panini, fish & chips, and a tuna sandwich &a salad.

We have visited for the first time this week. We sampled children's meals, a breakfast, soup, pancakes and milkshakes. The carrot and coriander soup was delicious! The adult pancakes were fairly pricey in comparison to the children's, when the portion size difference was marginal. The pancakes were tasty but not the best we have had. The restaurant itself was comfortable and cosy. The staff seemed fairly welcoming and had some understanding of their menu though our waiter seemed confused by the children's meal deal and I think we paid a little more than we should have. It's definitely worth a visit though if you like American style pancakes

Called in today as a treat for the granddaughters. Extensive menu, pleasant staff but long wait for food to come. Could best be described as cheap and cheerful.

I always come here for lunch with my family when I'm down visiting my grandparents, and it's become somewhat of a ritual. I've slowly worked my way through the pancake menu, and I haven't found one I didn't like yet! My favourite so far has to be the Alaskan pancakes with the bananas. I would probably prefer if the ice-cream was a white vanilla as opposed to the clotted cream yellow-coloured type however. Great comfort food, quick service and reasonably priced. Will always return.

We've been coming here for years and it's always been great, but today we went for some lunch and there were no menus on the tables. The waiting staff were giving the menus to customers after they arrived which was odd. It wasn't overly busy but my husband and I sat for 20 mins with no acknowledgement despite there being plenty of staff to give us a menu/take our order. In the end we gave up and left. Will give this place a miss from now on.

Take your money somewhere else. The quality of the food is bad for the price you pay. I wish we went somewhere else to eat. Salad served with your over cooked baked potato is off. Pancakes are OK but not great considering they are called pancake palace.

Me, my partner and our two kids visited the pancake place on Thursday. I'd never been before but had heard nothing but good things and it's definitely safe to say everyone was right. This place is lovely and cosy on the inside and is very clean. The staff are very welcoming and instantly make you feel at ease. Our kids are 3 and 5 and even with them making noise and generally being kids we didn't feel awkward we felt at ease. The order was taken promptly and our drinks and cutlery arrived moments later. My partner has the grandslam breakfast and it was all cooked to perfection and cooked fresh. My son's had the kids brunch and the kids macaroni cheese. Both dishes were cooked fresh and the macaroni was to die for. I myself had the chicken bbq panini and the lentil soup. Again all fresh made and definitely the best panini I've ever had. The food arrived promptly and the staff couldn't do enough for us. I will definitely be returning time and time again :) I would reccomend it to everyone!

Amazing location just to the side of the A75 near Castle Douglas. Perfect spot to take a breath, enjoy the view and also the good coffee and flapjack that they serve. A great little find.

It's always a pleasant surprise to find a pub with a good menu using local ingredients! We ate well, the service was friendly. The pub has a large garden. This must be one of the best pubs for miles in any direction! My wife left her sunglasses behind, but Tim, the landlord, was super-helpful, finding them and posting them on. We will definitely go there again.

Excellent service with you ordering everything from your table which is very convenient. Good choice of food although children’s menu could be better and there were no pizzas which dissapointed our youngest grandchild. We all enjoyed what we ordered and look forward to calling again soon.

The steak tasted boiled not fried and the onions were sparse and undercooked. This was not a good steak baguette. Nice service though in good surroundings.
