friendly welcoming family run hotel with a popular bar that is in need of updating. Can't fault the friendly welcome from staff and locals alike and the bar food was decent but the accommodation has seen better days and is in dire need of a makeover........

I along with a few colleauges other called in for a quick snack when passing through Castle Douglas, we ordered soup and sandwiches. Soup was fine, quite tasty, the ham sandwiches were rather bland, no effort was put into their making. The milk served with the coffee was sour. The service was very poor, the waitress had plenty to say but was very sporadic in her delivery, I am glad we only ordered a snack.

Only one table was occupied when we walked in, which should have been warning sign from the start. There were only two menus, and once we ordered we still had to wait for the other table to have their starter and main course before we received our main. Chips were cold, goujons were grisly, and we are nearly certain that the roast beef dinner was a microwave meal - it certainly wasn't fresh. And, considering 4 meals, three flat lemonades and a pint cost us a lot more than it said on the menu, we are pretty sure we didn't pay our own bill.

Warm welcoming staff throughout, Room was just what we needed for our one night stay, very comfy bed and warm as toast. The hotel bar is lovely and snug which serves well kept beer at a very good price and the staff are great craic. Patrica the owner is very attentive and keeps a nice clean hotel with nice friendly staff. The full Scottish breakfast kept us going all day until the early evening. The tea was red hot the way its supposed to be and the toast freshly made to order. We were a bit worried about the over night parking for our motor bike but Patrica showed us were to park right in front of the cctv and under shelter. We will be going again to the Imperial later in the year and hope to stop for a couple of nights.

It's a bit old fashioned when you walk in but your greeted with a smile and it's clean and tidy. It is pub food menu but it's good and lots of choice with specials. We were all hungry and the food didn't disappoint. Grandson had the curry and he loved it. It honestly is a good little pub for lunch you just have to get over the western music. I honestly thought a cowboy would run through at any time. Quite a few people came in and walked out but they really should have given the imperial a chance. Toilets etc all clean. it should be about a 3.5 but I couldn't work out how to do that on trip advisor

As stated by other reviewers this hotel is very dated, it was like walking into the 1970s. We found everything to be spotlessly clean but the room was let down by lots of small things that showed a lack of care - water rings on furniture, only one mug in a twin room, towel rail coming loose in the bathroom etc. There was a notice with the wifi code on the back of the door but it didn't work, when I enquired about this I was told it was the wrong code and given a new one, this did work but only for about ten minutes with hardly any signal. Breakfast was ok the next morning but slightly over cooked. The hotel is right on the Main Street and it was very noisy outside - we did stay on a Saturday night though - ear plugs would have been beneficial. Not the worse place to stay but I definitely felt it was not worth the money and although the staff were all very friendly and helpful I couldn't help feeling that they didn't really care that much about the place.

If the food is all local produce it must be from the frozen section in the Tesco at the top of the town, everything was cheap frozen food but we paid fresh food prices £6 for 3 prawns that came from a finger buffet pack...

The food was ok but not what I was expecting. The fish seemed to be like a "birds eye" range and the veg was frozen. The cappuccino from the machine was barely recognizable as coffee. Was disappointed with the quality of the food. The staff however, were extremely friendly and I could not fault them at all. Just need to get the food up to scratch

Everywhere, in the hotel had been spruced up for the new season's trade. Patricia was again charming sitting with us while we had our tea. What a lovely Hostess.Good luck for the coming season.

Having broken down round the corner from the Imperial Hotel we thought we would give it a go, the place itself was clean and the waitress very pleasant and helpful, we had a small lunch and a few glasses of water. The lunch was not tremendous but was all edible with my elderly Mother enjoying all her scampi lunch, which had lots of scampi and chips, the bill was very reasonable for lunch.

Visiting with my sisters and mother we stopped by for a snack. The variety of available food was superb. These people really know how to produce first class fast food with quality ingredients and excellent prices. The shop also stocks local quality products. I purchased some amazing Lemon curd which was recommended by the owner, I was not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and professional. If you are feeling a little peckish in Castle Douglas and dont need a sit down meal, this is the place to go.

Took my parents for lunch and was extremely disappointed. Soup was served cold and unable to eat it I asked for it to be heated up. Steak pie also served lukewarm and limited veg on my plate whilst my father had no veg only chips served with his. Would not go back have fond memories of this hotel serving delicious food in the past

Castle Douglas positions itself as a food town, and has excellent bakers and butchers. That cannot be said for the Imperial Hotel, an imposing building opposite the car park on King Street. We dropped in for lunch, having left the Crown bar area, a dingy and dirty space. Tables were covered in paper cloths, decor was 70s, and lunch menu looked ok, if staid. The waitress did not know what beers they had, and service was at best amateurish. We had the steak and ale pie. Oh dear, the pastry was burnt, the red cabbage swam in a vinegar sauce, there was a carrot puree that tasted of nothing, and yesterday's potatoes reheated. If this is best new owners can do, then avoid, there are much better options in the town.

It was quite a night staying at this hotel. It seems the bar/ lounge is pretty popular with the locals. It was packed, loud and a bit mental at times. The rooms are very basic but comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Called in here with some friends on a visit to Castle Douglas. Its a fascinating place with a lot of Victorian features to look at. We ordered food and drinks from very friendly staff. The food came out in good time and was really good quality and plenty of it. The real striking thing though was the staff. Nothing was to much trouble for them, they were friendly, helpful and enjoyed a joke and laugh and plenty of banter. All that thrown in with really good value for money food, 5 of us with drinks and two course each all for a total of £50. Better value and quality than a Muck Donalds. What more could you want from a bar restaurant. This place comes highly recommended

Didn't eat here, but if you fancy just a drink and friendly bar staff, thanks lovely... great cheap juke box, and beer. Basic furniture, and language can be a bit blue. But we enjoyed it. Go in the pub door, which is furthest right as you face the hotel.

Visited the Imperial Hotel for lunch on a visit to Castle Douglas at the weekend. the food was Edible and that was about it, the person serving the lunches was very abrupt and not very friendly, service was slow, asked her a question about the menu still awaiting an answer, asked for vinegar and don't know what was in the bottle, it was swimming with bits of something and looked revolting, she didn't even apologise. We used to go there regularly, and wondered why there was so few people in when it used to be filled, especially on a holiday weekend.Sorry I was not impressed and won't be back ever unless the they have a change of owners.

With their 'Specials' there was plenty of choice on the menu but what arrived was typical of the poor standard of pub grub served in this country. They seem to think if they fill you up with (frozen) chips with everything you won't notice that you've not eaten very much else. The chilli was lacking in meat and kidney beans although the sauce was tasty - the rice was a bit hard. The canelloni suffered from the same lack of meat. The fish was frozen and watery. The macaroni cheese with chips had no garnish and looked more unappetising than it actually tasted. If you go with low expectations and are happy to fill up on chips, you won't be disappointed, although with meals costing around £6-£8 for a main course it's not exactly cheap.Although this was a busy Saturday lunch, service was reasonably quick and the waitress was friendly which was the best thing about the Imperial. We didn't bother complaining as this was obviously the level of the place but we will be voting with our feet.
