I just donât get it. Thought reviews must be for a different place. Pros: bed and shower good; very nice hostess, good full breakfast. Cons: canât get over smell in my room-overpowering in not a good way. No laundry as stated in Booking.com. Room describes a courtyard view, in reality itâs an over grown garden that is in much need of tending. Entire place appears to be a DIY project that needs serious attention.

Firstly, I did try to make these comments privately to the venue, but have had no reply to my request for a contact (sent nine days ago). This is what I planned to send. "We were guests for a lovely evening out with friends last night, which is why the evening should have been memorable. You were busy, we were happy to wait for our table. Orders were taken for drinks, but one drink was forgotten and instead of two Slimline tonics and one regular, we were brought two regular tonics and one Slimline. We made do with one of each. In a top class establishment, Iâd expect wait staff to operate a âsilent serviceâ method where they adopt an easy method of marking their orders pad to enable drinks to be delivered without interrupting conversation. Obviously you donât train staff to do this, or it appears, to train staff at all. When the waitress came with the missing soft drink, she put it on the table when the personâs hand was outstretched to take it. She did this without making eye contact with the customer. If itâs your policy to do this, she should have said. We were taken into the dining room and seated. Only some time later, when asked âAre youse ready to order?" did the waitress realise we had not been given menus. Incidentally, Iâve yet to come to The Canny Crow and not be addressed as âyouseâ. One guest asked for bread to be served with starters (he wasnât asked if he wanted brown or white bread, maybe you donât have both?) It didnât come without a reminder. When it did it was supermarket white bread. More bread would have been handy with the pĂątĂ© which came with approximately a quarter of a slice of toast.âIt was nice, but when you eat pĂątĂ© on its own like that itâs like eating lard.â Why did you skimp on the cheapest thing on the plate? Four out of six mains were served. We couldnât start eating as we had no cutlery. After some time we had to ask for the other two mains. One of our guests went to the bar and asked for âknives and forksâ the waitress brought knives only. We had to ask for vinegar, we werenât offered it. We helped ourselves to mayonnaise. Service was so slow that by the time we ordered Irish coffee it was after âlast ordersâ. It had been announced (at 10 pm), but this meant that you lost revenue. To top it all, someone started to vacuum when we were still in the room. I had no idea you closed so early, but a polite word to the person who booked would have prevented the ignominy of being virtually thrown out. Throughout the evening, it appeared that unlike previous managers, the person in charge stayed at the corner of the bar, and appeared to be a barman, rather than the person making sure the place was running smoothly. Staff were pleasant, perhaps not exactly friendly, but the blame would appear to lie with management who have failed to train them in the basics. If you want to incentivise them, remind them that you have plenty of American guests and they will benefit from high tippers if service improves. Iâm telling you all this because I want The Canny Crow to succeed. I love the venue - itâs a bit out of the way and an expensive taxi ride home, but it would be worth it to bring guests to a world class venue with a stunning view. It is NOT worth risking bringing guests who I want to showcase the best of Ayrshire to when the service is so appalling. Frankly, you should be ashamed of embarrassing your guests. "

We were there for Motherâs Day. The staff is very attentive and friendly. It was buffet style. The food is abundant and they replenish the dishes quickly. However the style is very ho hum. Really pretty plain. The French toast and the meat were really dry. The place is very dark and depressing. The carpets are dirty and the place needed a lift yesterday! For $60 a person, we all expected more. There are brighter places with more interesting food. We are not going back.

We were given a one night stay voucher to the Cally Palace Hotel as a present, so we were quite impressed by the massive well kept grounds surrounding it in the countryside near Gatehouse Of Fleet. Quite an impressive building to view as one drives along the driveway to this imposing building. A building opens up to a rather sumptuous reception area as one enters through the large front doors, to be met by friendly well knowledged staff, and this feeling of sumptiousness continues as the corridors to the various parts of the hotel are walked. Our room (115) had a balcony and faced the rear, with a view over one of the golf holes and lovely very old trees, so the sun entered the room in the morning, although the heavy curtains disguised the fact that it was daylight outside. The room was spacious having lots of storage space for all a travellers needs, and had all that was needed to enjoy a stay at this hotel. The huge beds were very comfortable and we slept through the night - just like babes. Our room had been described as one that had been 'recently decorated' (how long ago?) however, being kind, it really needed some attention to the lighting, shower plumbing, bath panel, squeaking bathroom door, and to the decoration once more as it showed signs of wear and tear. Dinner, served in the Dining Room was very nice and the waiting staff were both friendly and well informed on the menu choices, and the choices to select from were broad and inviting, what we selected to eat also tasted very good - 'well done!' to the kitchen and serving team. We also enjoyed the gym, swimming pool and hot tub - excellent, felt so refreshed after using these facilities which were faultless. Breakfast was a good experience, with a vast array of well presented fresh fruits and foods for 'all tastes' available - eat till you drop buffet, and if required special food requestes are readily and happily catered for. Again, an army of well trained servers were on hand to support all patrons needs, Well done!. After breakfast we enjoyed a stroll in the grounds / golf course taking in the fresh air wafting from the nearby sea before finally checking out. All in all a very good overall experience, the minor 'issues' with our room may have been unique to that room only. Yes, we would return and enjoy the facilities of Cally Palace Hotel, the attentitive, friendly and knowledgeable staff and the beautifuk surroundings in a pristine corner of Scotland.

This is a hotel restaurant in a great spot with amazing potential. The food was in general well presented however the food was over cooked. My starter of pigeon was way over cooked. They offered to bring a fresh one but it was exactly the same. Likewise the lamb main course was also overcooked

We last visited The Music Room 5 years ago for a light lunch and decided to revisit the other day because we enjoyed ourselves the last time. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Alison or SuperAlly as we quickly realised. She was managing to run the bar very efficiently and make lunches in between. đ My wife had chips and a chicken and cheese toastie. I had home made lentil soup and a roll. Couldnât believe it was only ÂŁ2 for mine, it was lovely. We will certainly go back to The Music Room the next time weâre in Larkhall đ

Its not the most exciting hotel, but is fine for a work stopover. I've eaten here the last couple of times and was very impressed by their steak pie with nice veg on the side and a good pint of Guinness. Their haddock and chips is nice too
