Peebles Fish Bar in Scottish Borders

Fresh fish and chips made to order in a cardboard box you get lots of chips and a large fish best fish n chips in the borders bar none

Tried again after disappointing last visit. I asked for everything to be cooked fresh and as far as I am aware it was. It tasted nice but after an hour I was overheating and then I had diarrhoea and was sick. My wife also had diarrhoea during the night. My wife had fish and chips and I had haggis and chips, so the problem must have been the chips or what everything was fried in. Will not be back.

I went here for the first time since it reopened. I ordered a fish supper, a single breaded fish and a haggis supper. The fish was very nice according to my wife and sister but the chips were barely warm. The haggis was barely warm and like rubber and I could not finish it. Also, like the other chips, they were barely warm. The only reason I have given 2 stars is because of the fish. The haggis had obviously been sitting for a while as had the chips. Very disappointing and I won't be back there soon.

When passing through Peebles we noticed this fish bar, having been on the road for some time we were feeling quite peckish, stopped by for a fish supper each and was really disappointed to find they had NO fish. I mean a fish bar with no fish I had to settle for a steak pie supper while my wife would only take a bag of chips Really disappointed

Personally. I'm a jimjacks fan through and through and have unfortunately tested my tastebuds on the fish bars food. its okay. But nothing in our area compares to jim jacks, sorry not sorry.

A fish and chip shop who had no fish at 9.30 at night! Saying that the sausage supper was nice, but very little choice late on

Poor veggie choice here. Then when you discover that they use dripping to fry it makes it horrible and not somewhere a vegetarian would consider.

Lovely fish bar, well situated and makes all the difference when served with a pleasant smile and friendly chat.

They actually ran out of fish first time there so we were quick to go back earlier next time - right on the HIGH STREET!

Was there for 4 nights and this Fish Bar is pretty much the only place to get something to eat late on, basically everything is deep fried and coated in batter, Burgers, Haggis, Sausages, so as long as you want battered something you are in luck.The fish isn't fresh, the batter is soggy, I did enjoy the peas and the chips were OK, but the rest of the stuff was poor quality, but if you are starving and drunk... its OK

On a red hot sunny day after exploring the river Tweed for hours we stopped off for a snack. Chips cooked while we waited, lashings of salt and vinegar, eaten in the sunshine. Absolutely perfect Pleasant, helpful staff. Job done!

Worst pizza I have ever had , totally inedible , went in bin , would not recommend , WORST PIZZA EVER

Only been here once, but staff were really friendly and efficient and the food was tasty. Great varied menu, Will definitely be returning

Fish and chips twice. Walked back to the car to each them. Strange taste and smell. Went in the bin.

Standard chippy but good range including pizzas. Not up on the board but they do do child portions of meals

Always get a great meal here & the food is so fresh beautiful fish & chips, great selection of pizza & kebabs. Well worth a visit if your in town although you can't sit in there are many beautiful places to sit with your meal in our Wee Town

Had F&C;, had to wait for chips which were lovely and fresh but the fish batter suffered for the wait, taste and texture a bit like a KFC batter without the spice - most odd. The fish was good though. Well priced and met the need for a cheap fast dinner. Staff were very friendly and cheerful while we waited for the chips.

Great fish bar and the staff are fab and friendly, the food is extremely fresh and you don't have to wait to long, highly recommend this place to eat out

Ordered pizas for kids and chips - the chips tasted of other foods example sausages fish etc that seemed to have all been cooked in the same oils . chips into bin piza feed for the hounds...

Staying at Macdonald Cardrona, ate large lunch earlier, so fancied a bag of chips. Lovely wee takeaway, chips nice and fresh and hot. They had a good menu, if you were hungrier. Pleasant staff, and hit the spot

My husband calls it best fesh and Chips in Scotland. We visit Peebles since 2001 each year and Peebles Fish Bar is "must stop there"

The best chip shop ever, i sometimes come through from edinburgh with my parner just for a hamburger and chips.

Although we don't often have the weather in Peebles for a "Mr. Whippy" style ice cream cone, when the mood hits my wife and I make a beeline to the Peebles Fish Bar. The price is the best in town and a cone is just the right top up after a long walk along the river. It's one of the reasons to look forward to those long sunny afternoons in our "wee toon."

We had an excellent fish supper from here, which we took back to our cottage, during our holiday in Peebles. The shop would have gained five stars if the staff had been a bit friendlier.

Haddock and chips twice, take out, eaten on the banks of the River Tweed. Bliss. Real chips, well cooked, and excellent tasty haddock.

This was one of the best fish suppers I have had in a long time!.I asked for a small portion and even that was too much.Lovely and hot.

Nice chippy, though we didn't have any fish, which can be the make or break for a good fish and chip shop. Chips were good and nothing was left by the end. Slightly smaller portions than your average chippy possibly, but a sausage supper is usually too much for me anyway.

Great evening watching the juniors races at Beltaine week,sun shining and quick walk through the town to the fish shop...great service,great food,freshly cooked and reasonably priced.Reasonable selection of food...haggis for those that like it!!

Fish and chips okay though avoid curry sauce! Awful, brown water that actually poured through the box straight onto my trousers!! Thats how watery and thin it was. Also tasted disgusting so wasted my fish and chips. Very disappointing.

I had a fish supper and the fish was well cooked in nice crispy batter. The chips were decent. \you got a good sized portion and it was priced OK.

Anytime we visit Peebles its always tradition to get a bag of chips for the road from this chippy. Friendly staff and always a nice meal.

Husband had small fishsupper, it was very generous, I had chips and gravy which was fab. This place is very good value and the food is cooked to order so it's piping hot.

We had been in the Bridge Inn all afternoon watching the 6 nations and were starving after the excitement. We called in the chip shop for food. The scampi and chips was lovely and the staff were great. Helped us with some advice on the bus also.

Great lunch on Friday from here, fantastic fish cooked a treat plenty chips I always have mini fish supper as the regular size is too large, food is always good and staff polite

This is one of the best chip shops I've ever been to. The food has always been fresh, and the chips just right, not to hard, but not to soft. I can recommend the fish supper, smoked sausage supper, scotch pie supper to name a few. And to top it all off you get a ice cream cone with flake for £1.50. It's a great way to top of a day in Peebles.

After a hard day's sightseeing, we couldn't be bothered to cook, so headed for Peebles Fish Bar, which had been recommended by a local. I'm an infrequent fast food consumer, but enjoyed this experience. The smoked sausage (a real favourite with Scots) and oven baked steak pie were excellent. My wife wolfed down her battered haddock. Shame we arrived too late for mushy peas and onion rings - they'd sold out. Our meal for two came to £15.30. Peebles Fish Bar, staffed by friendly locals, is at the Innerleithen end of High Street.
