I hope the staff have woken from their slumber by the time tourist season hits the Royal Mile. It wasn't even that busy with customers. Maybe 5 covers. We were acknowledged quickly with menus. 👍 We pointed out to them that something had been spilt on one if the chairs at our table. Nothing was done about it or even acknowledged. 👎 Then part of our order had been forgotten about. I had to chase this up. 👎Then the table next to us sat the entire time we had eaten, and drank... and used the restrooms before leaving and they still hadn't even had a menu put in front of them. 🤦‍♂️They also had to chase them up. The food itself was nice.👍 (Albeit you're paying tourist royal Mile Edinburgh prices). So a bit of a shame really. Could definitely do better.

Oh dear what has happened?! Although it has always been expensive you didn’t mind as much as service was always great and had a buzz. Sadly it’s died a death no atmosphere. Wine came before water very very poor.

For a 4 star I expected better. The staff were very welcoming but the rented apartment was cold, literally and figuratively and very poorly insulated. The heaters were not working. Sewage smells in the bathroom. The terrace at the back is used for storing rubbish of all kinds. Positive points: close to the center, very spacious and top bedding!

Well...where do I start! Door locked! Person at takeaway hatch asked is we had booked, I said no, she asked how many, I said 4, she said I'll get the door opened. No chat, not interested in customers AT ALL. Lady opened door didn't even acknowledge us. We looked at menu, none came. We decided we would have coffe and cakes. We went to counter, ladies were just chatting, I had to say excuse me.. she turned round and said yes! I asked if there were cakes etc, was told yes it tells you that on the menu!! I asked to see them so we can choose, was told no we just serve them. I went back to table and advised our party we didn't seem welcolme and left. Will not be back.

Dirty and dated. The bathroom was covered in dust, and the shower full of hair and therefore didn’t drain. My duvet had a blood stain on it, visible through the bedding. When I raised this with reception and requested a replacement duvet, nothing was done about it and I was left to sleep in a bed that felt dirty as there was nobody on reception post 8pm to raise it with again. Also dubious stains on the carpet. And the TV didn’t work. The only good things I have to say about the place are that the lift was pretty cool, and the girl working on reception in the morning was nice.

Food was ok and for Edinburgh on price point for what you get. Not amazing value but city dining. Service was lackluster and slow. Took a long time for food to come out and the children in the party was getting hungry. What should be good east to get ice cream for them was also difficult and more complicated that it needed to be. Never checked in to make sure out food was alright and if they could get us more drinks so not very attentive. Would be a bustling busy place with a good atmosphere when the rugby is on however with the proximity to Murrayfield.

Inexplicably just stopped being a restaurant. Can't find anything about it online. Open but for what purpose I don't know. Now the guests at the associated premier inn next door have nowhere to eat. We were regulars and it was great to have somewhere affordable and reliable to get a meal. We are owed an explanation.

Was a lovely and chill dog friendly place with good prices on their drinks.

Just been back in the black bull Rothsey. 10of us ,first time since new owners.We were made to feel very welcome.You can now take your dog in which was great for us.Will definitely be calling in again.

Ordered a jumbo fish supper and it's the worst I've had for a long time. The fish batter was soggy the fish was grey and the chips were soggy. So I took it back in, handed it to the frier saying I'm giving you this back, it's the worst I've ever had. Without missing a beat he took the bag from me, threw it on the floor and continued speaking with one of the young lads. No question to inquire what the issue was, nothing, which made me think this must be a common occurrence there.

Ali and his staff excelled themselves when they served up a fantastic buffet for 40 people last night, The mixed Pakora & Garlic chicken starters were very tasty accompanied with various sauces and salads, followed by mains of 2 chicken, 1 lamb & 1 beef curries plus Aloo Gobi, rice & huge Naans all cooked to perfection and the heat to all tastes. Followed by tea or coffee with chocolates and shorties. Thank you Ali, Irena and all the girls for all your effort, 40 very happy customers - we will be back
