Powmill is a favourite meeting place for lunch with old school friends however after today I doubt that we will return. It's fair to say that we were served efficiently by pleasant staff but the food left a lot to be desired. Pea and ham soup was tasteless, macaroni cheese lacked any sauce and was effectively a dish of stodgy pasta, and selling Halloween decorated biscuits caused us to wonder when they were baked. We left feeling very disappointed.

For many years an excellent pitstop but now appears no longer motorbike friendly, due to owners attitude won't return. Good food and location but apparently bikes take up room for regular customers, perhaps a rethink of signage or carpark area upgrade. Personally I've stopped here for many years solo riding and as part of a group, I would think that constitutes a regular customer.

Came here for lunch on a back holiday, was busy but we were able to get a seat. Restaurant also had a dog friendly area! The menu was varied, I had the macaroni, was tasty however the portion size was massive which can be a little off putting. Boyfriend got the chicken fillets which were very tasty! The milkshakes were amazing! This all came to around £30. I would definitely be back!

Called into Powmill for some lunch and placed our order at the till for 2 toasties/teas to eat in. Went to our table and were quickly served our teas. (All good so far). After 25 minutes we still had no food and our teapot was empty. We saw a waitress wandering about outside with packaged food then came back and left it on the counter. She then appeared again and this time passed by our table with the same items, so we enquired about our order. She then looked delighted that she'd found the recipient of the order. We asked her if she could please put our food on plates as we were "eating in", which she did. Obviously, by this time, our food was cold and we had to ask for more tea. Unfortunately Powmill, we were not impressed with the service. Perhaps tea/coffee/cake would've been a better option?

Stopped for a quick bite when we needed lunch. There’s a big chalkboard above the counter that reads “we don’t serve fast food, we serve good food as fast as we can”. It was very busy and after queuing a good 10 minutes I ordered. The gluten free options were limited (mostly sandwiches on GF bread which experience tells me can be very hit and miss) so I was pleased to see chicken nachos as an option. I ordered that and my companion wanted a fish finger sandwich which on the menu is listed with fries and coleslaw. First off, I was told that the sandwiches don’t come with fries or coleslaw as a takeout option (despite the menu description) so I paid extra to add them as sides. Confirmed that the nachos were gluten free though, then after paying I waited over 20 minutes more before my takeout food was ready. At least half a dozen people who were behind me in the queue, maybe more, received their hot food orders while I waited. We eventually asked if our order had been missed, as we hadn’t been given a receipt and order number as other diners had. When we finally got the food, there was no explanation or apology for the long wait. The chicken nachos were very 100% ultra processed junk. Small amounts of shredded cheap supermarket sliced chicken, served with a huge pile of melted very cheap cheddar which made the whole thing unbearably greasy. Not a lot of mediocre salsa (from a jar) and a tiny pot of that disgusting green stuff with the long shelf life that supermarkets sell as guacamole - full of preservatives and looks like it has never even met an avocado. Definitely not the fresh, home prepared food that we expected. The fish finger sandwich looked ok, the bread seemed reasonable and the fries were pretty good, but I would not recommend the nachos to anyone. I certainly won’t be in a hurry to eat here again.

This is a lovely place for lunch. The staff were very friendly, the food was excellent and the service was great. There was a good selection of meals to choose from, from soup, sandwiches, paninis, chicken goujons, scampi, burgers, etc. I had the Chicken Goujons, which were delicious and came with lovely chips and a salad. My friend had a huge sandwich with salad and crisps. The portion sizes were large and the food was delicious. We decided to have cakes to take away for dessert, but we could also have had ice cream. While we were there (a Tuesday afternoon) there was a steady stream of people coming in for lunch or picking up food to take away.

New ownership and the Milkbar has nosedived. Recommend finding sownehere else to go as the attitude and customer service are dreadful and the quality isn't as good. We ordered jacket potatoes with coronation chicken which didn't contain much chicken and when we asked/complained the older person that served us was surly, confrontational and downright rude. It feels like the new owners haven't worked in the catering industry before and have no clue how to deal with customers (apparently the customers are never right). I would suggest the new owners go back to school to learn the fundamentals of customer service if they want their business to improve.

Visited for the first time in years and the prices have certainly increased. £3.25p for a morning roll and 2 pieces of bacon 🙁 and you still need to purchase a hot drink. This eatery is advertising locally sourced produce so surely there can’t be high transport costs. In all fairness the bacon was tasty, the coffee was lovely and served with a smile. Surely a hot roll and a hot drink offer on the morning menu would be more appealing to the public. I would return again but the owners need to look at their price structure on their breakfast menu at least.

The Milk Bar is perhaps too dog friendly as dogs are allowed indoors and not just at the outside tables. The last couple of times we have called in, dogs barking loudly spoiled our enjoyment. Such a pity, as it is a nice cafe with a good selection of cakes and parking is easy.

Very disappointed. Lorne sausage was overcooked and tough, bacon cold and tough, potato scone needed a saw to cut it. Sent it back. Woman that came to speak to me explained that it was steak lorne and tgats what happened when it was kept warm- ( big sign says food is fresh- no fast food here!). I did get a sausage recorded and that was the standard I did expect- at least I could eat it. I said to til staff that the replacement roll on sausage was much better and was tge standard I expected and a surly female staff member was quite rude. I've been going there for years- maybe they're having an off day,but not good.

Had been recommended this by a friend who said he had visited regularly last year so thought we would give it a go! Overall really disappointing experience and we won’t be back even with the offer of a free breakfast! We entered the cafe which was fine, took our seat and my husband went and ordered. All good and easy enough. we ordered a breakfast, scrambled egg on toast, poached egg on toast with a side of veggie haggis x 2. When it came out there was no veggie haggis on one when my husband said to the server we had ordered it she rudely said you didn’t order that you only asked for one, when he explained what he said she said you never and I haven’t charged you. My husband went and paid for a side of veggie haggis and the same women then said abruptly to the kitchen, that man never ordered that. She told us it would be three mins, at least ten mins passed and everyone was finished their breakfast except me who was waiting on my veggie haggis whilst my poached eggs and toast went cold. My husband went up to ask about it and she told us it wasn’t even cooking yet, he got a refund for the haggis and came back to the table, the eggs by this point were cold so we took it back up and again the same rude women said, is there a problem abruptly! We asked for a refund and another lady apologised and offered a free one next time. She was nice enough but didn’t make up for the other terrible member of staff who clearly sees customers as an inconvenience! Other than that we found some annoyances. We got fresh orange juice, advertised as Folkingtons fresh orange at £3.45, what is actually available is princes 200ml carton of fresh orange which you pay 60p for. Also as a side note, why do you send scrambled egg on toast etc out with a side of butter, are we supposed to scrape the mound of egg off to put butter on before putting the egg back on? Won’t be back purely down to the worst customer service I have ever experienced!

Partner was happy with her panini, but my steak pie with chips and beans was final. I've had better school dinners. The chips tasted of cooking oil and the pastry tasted of margarine. No one at any time asked whether we were happy with our meal, though staff passed our table a number of times. On the positive side the price was very reasonable, but I would happily have paid more for something better. I won't be going back.

I visited today with a friend and his dog for the first time. The staff were really welcoming and helpful to human and canine alike. They wore masks for our entire visit and they took everyone's details for track and trace. Social distancing was being adhered to and they had clearly marked out the distances on the floor and had screens in place. Hand sanitiser and wipes available to all.Good coffee and the food was excellent too. Will be back. The only unfortunate thing was having to witness a "loss of temper" today from a male customer which came across as an uncalled for attack on a young member of staff who was clearly seen as an easy target. Please, everyone is trying their best in difficult times, especially small businesses when it's very busy. People are only human. If you have an issue be an adult and talk respectfully to the management about it, who can resolve things. Or give us all some peace and don't go out to eat. A local woman stood in to defend the young member of staff - lady I don't know you but good on you. She was told to "f**k off" by the customer who was complaining. Charming behaviour...He then proceeded to go and eat his food anyway? I came here to leave a balanced review as this place is a wee gem and doesn't deserve to get grief like this.

Inside, there’s lots of Covid precautions in place, staff cleaning tables, masks, shields between tables and hand sanitizers etc. There’s an excellent range of options for food and an incredible range of desserts. I got the Vegetarian Breakfast option with a Latte. The latte was very good. The vegetarian option came with a fried egg, mushrooms, baked beans, toast, potato scones and 2 vegetable sausages. The only complaint was the mushrooms were a bit dry, but a bit of butter, they were fine. Everything on the plate was nice, especially the scones, which were moist. The service was excellent, friendly and no complaints about that. As other reviewers have mentioned, the prices are expensive for what it is. I suppose that’s because Powmill Milk Bar is out of the way. Still, I would probably stop here again if I’m in the area.

Queued and ordered our lunch then took the drinks and cakes to our table, our food took so long we had finished our drinks by the time it came. The bread the sandwiches were made from was brick solid, we had ham and mustard and they couldn’t even butter the bread. The sandwiches come with salad and crisps with the option to pay extra and add on soup, so I did. But when my sandwich came out I ended up with two hard bits of bread with no butter, half filled with ham and mustard - it was so dry and a small bowl of soup...so I paid extra to receive less because I didn’t even get my salad or crisps. This happened to three of us, luckily my husband went for a hot option. Definitely not worth the money...rubbish food and service, I will not be back.

Came here to meet a friend for brunch. The menu is fantastic for some cosy Sunday food, we had the Hebredian eggs (eggs benedict with black pudding rather than ham) and it was reasonably nice. The poached egg was cooked to perfection, although the dish overall was bit on the salty side and the hollandaise sauce felt more like runny egg yolk. We grabbed a few cakes from the tempting display before we left, to take away. However, I noted that a large number of these were bought from Costco, not baked in-house. I took a few tarts and a slice of tray bake from the home-baked items. All were nice. I would certainly come back to try their huge sausage rolls and tasty looking milkshake in future.

Excellent, the service and food is of a high standard, and the baking is unbelievable. I have been coming here since I was a very young child and just recently started visiting again and I must say I was not disappointed.

We meet friends for a lunch time treat . This has been our first visit for years . Powmill Milk Bar is set in peaceful surroundings with ample parking and has a traditional feel inside . You are made welcome by staff members and then the food experience begins . There is something for everyone with multiple choices off options . Your food is made fresh on ordering but well worth the wait . I would recommend that you try the food for yourself . We will definitely go back

Excellent restaurant, which has a dog friendly area. The soups and mains are delicious. The desserts however, look much better than they taste. Would definitely recommend... and the added bonus is the beautiful drive to get there. Xx

We found this by accident last year and this year we made it part of our trip. We were made so welcome and the quality of the food is outstanding. A breakfast to die for and a real cake heaven as they have everything.

This place clearly has some great things on the menu, many of them home made. However, the surroundings didn’t match up to the menu. The tables looked like they needed new tops and were a tad tacky.

My first impression was that the place needed a good clean. The condiments on the table looked dirty, the table was grubby and sticky.

Stopped by for a quick coffee, haven’t been to the milk bar for years. Husband told me I had to go inside as the cakes looked very inviting. Had to buy two to takeaway, they were soooo delicious, just as well we live in London and it’s too far to just pop in.

It’s been years since I’ve been here and it seems that some money has been spent on the inside seating areas, but a shame that the garden centre at the side is no more.

Son and I popped in for lunch with our westie pup after checking trip advisor for dog friendly cafe options. Few years since I've been here, remember being brought here by my mum and dad. Excellent lunch waffles/bacon for son and posh beans toast for me - hearty tasty food, son also had the best milkshake ever...No room left to try impressive array of cakes, another time. Off to rumbling bridge for afternoon explore, paddle and dog walk.

Had a visit today, the first in many years. I used to love visiting here as a child. There is a wide menu available, although the table menus don’t reflect this. We didn’t know to check the boards above where the cakes are. The food was really tasty and presented well. Most of the staff were really friendly and helpful too. A huge selection of cakes and all a good price. Will definitely be back. The antique shop next door is also a little gem and definitely worth a visit.

I and my family had previously visited Pow Mill over approximately forty years. It was famous far and wide for it's home baking. In conversation the name came up again and along with my wife, my son and his partner we decided to try out the cafe for our sunday meal. At a few minutes past four we were advised that the kitchen was closed. We decided to have sandwiches instead but no. "We can't make sandwiches." All that was available were small quiches, sausage rolls and cakes. We asked for the savouries to be heated but were told the kitchen had been cleaned and could not be used. We settled for them cold but spent the hour before closing being reminded that the cafe would be closing soon. All in all totally disappointing. It's a shame when a highly successful business changes hands after many years that standards drop so much that no one can make so much as a sandwich or put a sausage roll in a microwave oven. I nor the rest my family certainly wouldn't consider returning.

The breakfast my husband had was really tasty. Beautiful toast. Lots of butter. Good produce. Soup was absolutely delicious. Breakfast Roll with soup was a bit disappointing. Would prefer some nice chunky bread. Apart from my roll everything was perfect. Will definitely go back.

Almost 5 pounds for a cappuccino for which no order has been taken at first, for which you then have to wait more than 20 minutes, with a spoon and sugar missing and, as a highlight, a 10% service fee appears on the bill? As beautiful as it is in Gleneagles - unfortunately we didn't like it at all...

We were enjoying a nice drink in the beer garden one sunny afternoon, when a youth started shouting & swearing at us because we were English (which was funny in itself because none of us are 100% English). The locals were appalled at his behaviour & the landlord immediately ejected him, however, it cast a shadow on our visit.

Went for lunch yesterday with my parents and dog on arrival our table was clearly marked ours and there was already a bowl of water awaiting my dog I thought this was super sweet and thoughtful, the waitress we had was brilliant with my wee Jack Russell she gave him a few biscuits and attention he loved it. Service was quick and the food as always was delicious. Lovely warm welcoming place to eat out and we always choose here when we go for lunch. Great menu lots of choice.

I give up, I really do. Have stopped using the restaurant because the food is pretty poor and the staff are surly at best. This morning I wanted to purchase a food item which they have stocked for years. First young girl I asked couldn't understand what I was asking for, second one said they didn't stock it although she has served me in the past and the third one said it had sold out but they might be getting some in in a couple of weeks. Several other local people have mentioned how rude the staff were. Hospitable is not a word you can use for this place and yet years ago it used to be good on all counts.
