Ordered vegan food and found what seemed like animal part in it. They insisted it was part of a mushroom which it clearly wasn’t. This made my wife feel sick and therefore couldn’t accept the offer of another meal. Offers of drinks etc weren’t acceptable as this had ruined our evening. I had to argue for any reduction in the bill and was threatened with the police if I didn’t pay. Appalling customer service.

We ate here on two occasions while staying in the Atholl Arms. On both nights the food was superb. All local produce. There is a slight delay in getting served as everything freshly prepared, but its a lively view overlooking the river . The 3 way salmon starter was lively as was the seafood tagliatelle. The cheese board was also extremely tasty. Lovely wine list as well Staff are dealing with the new covid regulations extremly well and sanitiser stations throughout the hotel area.

We used to holiday in Birnam or Dunkeld and always made a point of visiting the Riverview Restaurant in the Atholl Arms Hotel. My wife is vegan and the selection for her taste is very good, as good as any non-veggie specific eatery we've visited. I'm not vegan and enjoy their imaginative specials. All that coupled with good service, good wine options and a beautiful view over Dunkeld Bridge and the Tay to Birnam Hill. Once all our kids had grown and flown the nest we decided to sell up and move here, and we've never regretted it. Birnam & Dunkeld is full of good cafes, interesting shops and amazing history - significant battles, the key location of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth', where Beatrix Potter first wrote Peter Rabbit, and the scenic inspiration for many works by John Everett Millais - plus there's a terrific arts centre that manages to bring top line acts to this little rural village. We've seen Peggy Seeger, Phill Jupitus and superb touring dramas there in the past year alone. I liked Howie's Bistro too - though haven't visited since it's passed into new hands - but the Riverview Restaurant remains our favourite, and always worth a visit.

On arrival we found the restaurant to be tidy and welcoming. Service seemed to be good and we were offered a fixed menu describing 2 course meal for £20 or 3 course meal for £25. Ordered drinks and awaited our starter. Found the starter to be tasty but such a small portion that we wondered if we had made a mistake when ordering. The main course which was ordered by all four of us was very disappointing. The dish comprised of lamb shank and a small piece of neck of lamb some sauce and a sliver of raw cauliflower. We also had a desert which was again tasty but extremely small portion. When we complained at the payment stage the waitress explained that we could have ordered side dishes at extra cost. This was not explained at the time of ordering and the menu did describe 2 or 4 course meals which we assumed meant there would be vegetables on the plate. Overall we would say the service was prompt and friendly, this was the only positive. The food was overpriced and poor value. The taste was about average but the portion size was extremely small. We were very disappointed and will not return.

We were extremely disappointed with the quality of food for the price. Paying £15 for a main you would expect fresh flavourful food, instead we were given bland freezer food, less than you would expect to find in your local wetherspoon. Although the place was virtually empty, service and food standards were sub par. The staff were quick to take food off the bill when we complained which to me indicates that it is not a rare occurance.

First visit to the Atholl Arms Riverview Restaurant at the end of May. It was our 15th wedding anniversary. The food was outstanding! Both starters & both main courses were delicious. A visual & culinary feast. I had a ribeye steak which was cooked to perfection. I don’t think it could have been better. The menu choice was well thought out and catered for a wide range of tastes. The staff were friendly and professional. A hard to achieve combination, but from the moment we arrived until we left we felt very well looked after. Standards ate on the rise across Scotland but this just feels ahead of the game. Huge thanks for a memorable evening. It won’t be long before we go back.

The service was excellent. Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. We had 3 courses from a fixed menu with a good choice of locally sourced produce. My husband had the fish which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had the fillet steak (rare) which melted in my mouth. Overall the price we paid including drinks was very good value for a wonderful meal.

We booked to go to this restaurant when we were on holiday as the menu looked very good. Unfortunately, when the Taxi tried to drop us off, the location on the map was in fact a residential road, and when we had to the phone the restaurant to ascertain it’s location we were not only informed that the map was incorrect but in fact they were not even open in January. We were told this was not the restaurant’s fault but in fact Open Table were to blame as they were supposed to remove the listing for the month.

Having read good reviews about the Riverside Restaurant I was disappointed that its lunchtime menu is that of the Meeting Place which is more suitable for a weekday than Sunday lunch. Not a roast dinner in sight! The service was appalling. Almost an hour's wait for our food and we had booked beforehand. At least we had had a Scottish breakfast and weren't starving. We did receive an apology and were told that they were busy "on the other side". We were obviously less important on our side. Things appeared very disorganised and we had several different waiting staff. The kitchen ran out of the soup of the day after the order was taken. An alternative was offered. In the end they did manage to come up with one bowl of the original soup of the day. Overall the food was very good and excellent value for money.

Well what a let-down. The building itself is in an A1 location in Dunkeld, right on the bridge and with a fantastic river view, and when we booked (needlessly!) I was thankful we'd managed to get a table overlooking the river; as it turned out only three tables were occupied, and after a glance at the menu I could see why. My wife and I had hoped for a quality traditional Sunday lunch but sadly it wasn't an option, and while the pizza (yes, pizza!) we opted for was okay, had I known the menu was so disappointing I would have bought a pizza from the Co-Op across the road.

My wife had booked a table for us here tonight, for my birthday. When we arrived we were informed there was already a large party of diners in the Riverview and as they were "rowdy & loud" we could eat in the adjoining restaurant. The Meeting Place. We would have liked to sit at our reserved window "Riverview" table but due to the noise of the large party we decided to eat in the adjoining restaurant. The food was excellent and the service very good, however the ambiance and view were not what we wanted. The bill at the end of the evening did not reflect any amendment to the price considering the amendment to the location, which would have been a nice consideration. Having said that we could not fault the food or service. Paying just under £100 for a meal for two (with wine, whiskey & coffee) is still a fair old price when you don't even get to eat in the restaurant you originally booked. Yes we were given a choice, but should we have had to do that??

We booked into Riverview for a special Valentine's dinner menu. We were both attracted by this menu, as it had interesting choice and although it was still very much based on wholesome Scottish produce and cooking, the whole thing was with a twist: some dishes such as the smoked salmon ravioli in lobster bisque with wilted spinach sounded quite different! Bit pricey, we thought, but took the risk. And it paid off so much that I will always remember this meal as a super treat and want to thank the chef(s) who created it and cooked it. The flavour combinations worked, we thought everything was fresh, cooked and seasoned very well, and my pudding of trio of chocolate was divine. We were also given (as free) a small helping of homemade bread that was fluffy and fresh, and tasted as baked at home, and little croutons with goats cheese to start with, very nice. The service was professional and relaxed, chatty and pro-active. We had a really nice time and will come back when in the area!

Spending a week at our timeshare in Dunkeld we came across this unpretentious, but excellent restaurant by the bridge over the Tay. So good was the food, that we visited a second time and were not disappointed. A good choice of menu with excellent "specials", all very tasty and with good service. We will be back...

Went revisted the Riverview for lunch and it has changed. The menu was totally different and the staff seemed not too happy that day. The meals were rather mediocre and the atmosphere was not so nice because there were hardly any other guests in the restaurant. I was informed that the restaurant had not changed hands. So why did everything seem so different? Very disapointing indeed.

I have booked on-line. Postal code in their address is incorrect, you need PH8 0AQ! If you use the Navigator. We arrived on a Sunday dinner, the restaurant was empty and we felt us uncomfortable... somehow, however the food was not bad.

No one to greet us despite ringing bell for service. Only one other table occupied which is unusual on a Saturday lunch-time whilst restaurant next door was full! Little ambience and no staff available in the restaurant itself except when serving or clearing. My 3 companions found their food very average whilst mine was a bowl of tasteless overcooked fish! We were not asked how food was until we were finished so when I was offered for my food to be cooked again I declined as I would have been eating alone. Very disappointing and we won't be back!

Following the wonderful reviews on trip advisor we made a booking for a special dinner. We sat alone in this empty restaurant, so it wasn't as though the staff were busy, yet we had a different 'busy' waitress each time the table needed attention. My entree arrived very soon after ordering, so I politely asked if we could have some space before serving our main course . Indeed we were given "space",but when our mains did arrive the plates were too hot to touch and one suspects our mains had been cooked and left sitting in an oven, while we had our "space"! This is not how a well reviewed restaurant should present itself. Very very disappointed

Located overlooking the river rapids, by the old bridge in the Dunkeld old town.Small gardens and the old bridge are worth a look for a before or after-meal short walk.It has its own parking below by the river and beside the old bridge, but you need to turn in quickly at the corner to get into the lot. It took us 2 tries to get it right, but it is not difficult if you know where it is you car is not too wide. The restaurant is in the Atholl Arms hotel and on the corner, so it is very easy to spot. We had Scottish rib eye and smoked salmon dishes with greens salads. Everything was perfectly prepared. Small wine list, but acceptable inexpensive wine choices.Moderate pricing. Good value.

We ate at this restaurant on the Saturday night during our recent 2-night stay. We can honestly say we were very, very impressed with the quality of the food. Lovely menu with a good selection of choices using locally sourced produce. We had sea bass with lobster sauce, crushed herb potatoes, samphire and asparagus - absolutely divine!! Cheese board and sticky toffee pudding were heavenly!! There were locals dining as well as residents (always a good sign!) and when non-residents turned up looking for breakfast on Sunday morning, they were made very welcome! When we passed on our good comments to the friendly and helpful staff, we found out that the restaurant has a new Head Chef - Alister - so, thanks Alister and the rest of the team for making this such an enjoyable and memorable meal!! We will be back!!

Walked into this lovely restaurant by chance. Our small group of three were pleasantly surprised. Two of us eat vegan food and we had so many delicious sounding options, it was difficult to choose. My meat eating hubby was also spoilt for choice. His main meal of pork belly made him very happy and and the vegan tofu goulash and the nut roast were simply delicious. The salads were colourful and fresh and offered some wonderful flavour combinations of leaves and fruit. Yum!Service was fast and friendly. Prices were very fair. We will return.

This was my third visit for food at the Atholl Arms and I really enjoyed their latest vegan-friendly additions to the Riverview Menu (which we kindly offered for lunch so we could have extra vegan options). My fiance & I shared a starter of beetroot salad, chickpea fritters, and avocado cream. I'm not normally a fan of avocado but the cream was really tasty. For main, he had the bean & vegetable burger with the vegan goddess dressing, and I had the Puy lentil and broad bean stew with broccoli tempura and ginger and citrus tofu. I think I would have preferred a marinated tofu rather than the flavour being drizzled over; however, maybe a more subtle flavour was more of a complement to the stew. The broccoli tempura was amazing, I could have eaten a whole plate of it. It was a decent portion and I felt quite satisfied afterwards. We shared the dessert of Silken tofu brulee; I thought it had a nice sweetness, and it's always exciting for a vegan dessert to be available. I don't know how appealing it would be to non-veggies though as it looks too much like tofu in it's original form. Tofu is so versatile and I think diners would be surprised if it was whipped up with cocoa powder to make a chocolate mousse, or a tiramisu. Service was excellent. I look forward to my next visit!

We ate here during a 1 night stay at the hotel. Our dinner was really outstanding, very good food, beautifully presented with good combinations of flat ours. We commented on the fact that they had a good chef. Our table for two was at the window so if it had been a light evening we would have had a good view of the river, so the restaurant would have lived up to its name. As it was we had the view in the morning at breakfast which again was excellent. Recommended.

Just back from a lovely weekend stay at the Atholl Arms Hotel in Dunkeld and we ate in the Riverview Restaurant the first evening and in the hotel bar/bistro the second evening. As a veggie for over 30 years, I was so pleased to enjoy great and creative vegetarian food on both evenings. The menus go much further than the usual 'vegetarian option' with lots of excellent veggie choices per course in both the restaurant and the bar/bistro. Thank you so much. It was great to get good vegetarian food without having to negotiate and also to get as much choice as those who eat fish and meat. We will definitely be back soon. Jan and Duncan, Edinburgh

Really nice to see, and taste, good quality, imaginative vegetarian options on the menu. Whoever cooks them seems to understand veggies want proper meals, not just a salad.

After a long day of traveling, we found our cottage and before unpacking, headed into Dunkeld for dinner. It was getting dark and we were hungry, so we just stopped at the first place we saw, this hotel restaurant at the Atholl Hotel. We had an excellent meal served by a very friendly wait staff. The fish was outstanding and the pork was tender and delicious. Dessert was special as well. A perfect way to introduce us to Dunkeld, one of our favorite towns.

My fiancé and I are considering getting married in Dunkeld, and were there in July to scope out potential food options, and had had a great email response back from the Atholl Arms about vegan options. The service was really good, and for lunch we had a vegan friendly veggie burger with 'Vegan goddess' dressing (tahini, sesame seed paste, chives, lemon and oil), and cashew cheese sandwich, which tasted nothing of cashew cheese but very much of tahini, but was still tasty so we didn't say anything about it as we'd otherwise been very pleased so far. They had said that they if we booked for the next day they would make sure they had a vegan friendly special option on the menu the next day, which we did. I so wish we'd tried the Lentil & Cashew Loaf, but we opted for the 'Potato Rosti' special. It was very oily and salty, and was literally a plate of vegetables, with a potato pancake underneath green beans, 2 halved red onions, 2 halved bulbs of fennel (I think) and a little chopped peppers. We very much appreciated the consideration, but felt like someone thought, "What do vegans eat? Vegetables!" and made the dairy/meat/egg free option a default "Everything free" option to suit any customer who came in with any sort of allergy or intolerance: no gluten, wheat, sugar, nuts... flavour. We would visit again, and plan to do so again later in the year, and think we may try the Lentil and Cashew nut loaf as that sounded quite interesting and flavoursome.

On the basis of the favourable reports on this site my wife and I booked a table in the restaurant to celebrate an anniversary but the moment we walked through the entrance to the hotel I could sense its decomposition; it is a dingy hotel suited to those who wear tee shirts, grubby jeans, and dirty trainers. The entire ambience was dismal and depressive. To advertise the restaurant as having a river view is a 'con' although a small area of it can be seen but do not expect to be excited. The decor of the joint was drab and uninteresting. The dining tables were without coverings although had a dingy cheap ornament holding one yellow weed like flower. When the meal arrived it had no resemblance to that exhibited in the hotel's brochure; it was akin to a dog's excrement and tasted as awful; its appalling flavour remained in my mouth until I was able to get something else to eat. We were the only diners in the restaurant yet it was a Saturday evening. The meal was inevitably abandoned when we politely paid the bill and did a quick exit. We headed to the nearby Hilton and enjoyed better food and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening listening to pleasurable music.

A great meal is to had at this pleasant restaurant. Our party was warmly welcomed and seated quickly.None of us wanted a starter so we just ordered main courses. not long after taking the order a tray of complimentary dips and breads arrived as well as a large jug of minted lemon water, My steak was perfect and the mushroom and whisky sauce that came with it was also good. The other members of our group had chicken and duck dishes which were also faultless.the deserts were just as good. a very pleasant dining experience that will be repeated.

A lovely relaxing evening spent at Braan Sauna. There are lovely views across the Tay as you get cosy in the sauna or take the plunge in the cold pool. There were a few new additions added, including a plunge bucket that is not yet in action - so I will look forward to coming back to try these out.

Stayed here last week for three days. The owner and the staff of the place were very welcoming. The food we had in the bombay club was very tasty and freshly prepared. All the credit of the good food goes to Mandeep Singh, Jasbir Singh and their team. I would love to visit this place again.
