Hmmmm. A grand hotel from days past. And, it’s grand days seem to be past. The room I was given, on the third floor, was dated and funky. Worn carpet and poor bathroom. I paid £100 bnb, but that’s 25% more than the room quality warrants. The dining hall is impressive, the breakfast less so. The open fires are kept burning, and they are welcome. If I’m passing through here again, I’d look for somewhere else.

Worst sleep we ever had in a hotel. We could actually hear people in the next room turn the light on and off. Location is great and the facilities are well kept. Everyone we met at reception is borderline rude. Hotel is dog friendly but won’t allow them in dinning area which means our dog had to stay in the car while we had breakfast although they charged us an extra £15 for the dog.

Wer "old world charme" erleben will ist hier am richtigen Platz.

Charming, atmospheric hotel that's not seen a refurb in half a century but I loved it. It's like a cool dream about an old hotel. The mattress is terrible, the water pressure from the electric shower is low, the electric wall-mounter heaters smack of 1970s council house but see past it. The dining room is spectacular, the roaring fires are a thing of beauty and the breakfast is excellent. I'm giving 5 stars because it's enchanting and memorable in a way that few hotels are.

We stayed at the Atholl Arms for a weekend reunion with approximately 50 others. We had Friday and Saturday night suppers, and Celeidgh dancing on Saturday in their dining hall. Our family suite was pleasing - facing the road --quiet, clean and user friendly. Old fashioned desk service instead of a scanner/machine/robot. Dining room was super well-organised - breakfast orders taken efficiently and food delivered immaculately as ordered. For the numbers being served this was impressive. Friday night the best lasagne I have ever had was served. For this I asked the Maitre'd for the recipe and the chef personally wrote it down for me! Saturday night for the black tie dinner for 60+ salmon was served - again an excellent standard of food for such large numbers at one time for a local, family-style hotel. Requests and questions were answered and at busy times the staff remained cheerful and personable. We had a great time there! Tons to do and see around the area. Enjoy this old-school family - style hotel with high quality service while you can!

Nice pub to sit in for a drink but wouldn’t recommend the £13 macaroni cheese - it was 100% the Heinz variety from a tin just upended into a little dish - they hadn’t even seasoned or tried to hide it under a homemade cheese crust. Mega cheeky since mac & cheese is a simple, cheap meal to whip up from scratch.

I’ve came here for years upon years and live visiting to have a few sociable drinks and not necessarily eating. Venison calibrese starter was a salad with two shavings of dyed ham. Steak pie was cold and got sent back twice. Dont reheat pie in a microwave mr chef man. Roast must of been trown off a wall. Insult to i injury it was served with one potato. Burger was like out of a fairground van. Hate to be a karen but we complained to just a sorry and nothing else. To top it off, visited the toilet to exit my vile meal and could only wipe with hand drying roll. Needed a pillow for the way home. I could genuinely write more but im too frustrated.

The Atholl Arms - Blair Atholl. The not so dog friendly hotel. On arrival before we even got our room key we were informed that we had either to put the dog in the car whilst we ate breakfast or eat one after the other. Dogs cannot be left in the room alone and they couldn’t put up a table elsewhere for us. As we were on holiday together and booked a double dog friendly room we were justifyingly unhappy. We never leave the dog in the car, especially with the hot temperatures we have had. As soon as we got into our room there was an A4 sign at the side of the bed stating dogs aren’t allowed in the room unattended at any time. It seemed so unwelcoming. So now onto the room. Room 201. Very traditional room set out lovely. Sash windows. The quilt cover was torn in two places. Bathroom window wouldn’t open. I fed our concerns to the hotel manager about the quilt cover who was the person who gave us the ‘warm welcome’ she arranged for housekeeping to change the bedding despite the fact we told her that they could leave it on - I brought it to their attention because I didn’t want them to think the dog had done it! The floorboards are very creaky in this place, so if it’s peace and tranquillity or an early night you want in your room I would avoid. In the evening we ate in The Bothy bar - mince and tatties and it was like good home cooked food and an ample portion - fresh and hot. Service was good too. We decided not to have a separate breakfast here even though it was a Sunday morning and difficult to get breakfast early elsewhere , we asked them to deduct it off our bill. Quite frankly we expected more from this ‘dog friendly’ hotel. Having travelled over 1000 miles on our Scotland holiday and been warmly welcomed and accommodated at 8 other dog friendly hotels - I guess there just had to one that marred it. It had so much potential to be one of our favourite places to stay - but we didn’t feel valued or respected. We got £30 deducted off the bill in lieu of breakfast, no charge for our dog which should have been £15 and we left the hotel hungry.

Stopped for lunch only. The menu is nice, a bit pricey if I'm honest, but these places really only have the tourist season to make money so it's understandable. The service was slow, we were an hour to sit, order, be served, eat & pay. We only had 1 course. My salad was delicious & my husband's burger was also lovely. Both meals slightly let down by the chips. They were pretty cold by the time they arrived & they were the type of chips you get from McDonald's. Which isn't great when you've paid £6 for Parmesan, Truffle fries! Not a bad place though & the dog is allowed in the bar area.

The barman told us that we needed to sit down at a table in order to be served, but we were sitting through the front in the function room....so how does that make sense? Nobody was allowed to stand at the bar, even to be served. We queried it with the barman later on as the bar tables were all filling up with diners, and he said, and I quote, "we don't value local custom as we get enough passing grade". A good way to lose customers. Hope that management have a word with their bar staff.
