Cozy, rustic, highland hotel with friendly staff, real log fire, excellent breakfast and great location. We stayed for two nights in the autumn and were kept warm, well fed, and slept well. The “rustic“ descriptor refers to quirky layouts and ancient bowed floors that give this place some character, and also to the wonderful log fire and leather sofas in the foyer. We ate in the bar one evening, sadly one of the meals was under the heat lamp for too long and was all but inedible (this small problem was handled excellently by the waiting staff). The other plate was delicious. I’m giving four stars because we enjoyed our stay, and could probably return again, but I couldn’t wholeheartedly recommend it to all of our friends.

My husband and I booked a room but unfortunately we were not able to eat in the large room and, worse, the staff clearly showed us that a gay couple was not allowed. The room was poorly cleaned and had mold. Do not take this hotel if you have little self-esteem, hygiene and humanity.

We didn't stay at the hotel but visited the Bothy Bar / Pub out the back which found to be lovely and cosy. The service was really great from start to finish and we enjoyed our food (soup which was a decent size, and the mince with veg) It might look like from the outside round the side that its closed, but just pull the door hard! Luckily a couple behind us were visiting for the second night in a row and showed us how to get in :)

It is a marvelous building with a nice Victorian touch. Nice pub wit friendly staff and a dining room with wood fires like you've never see before. The building is almost 200y old and lots of details are also antique. So, if you see reviews about things about the hotel that we're maybe outdated or even malfunction, that's it... How nice to stay in a monument in these days of chain hotels. Thank you again for your Friendly welcome and service, good pubfood, quality breakfast. We loved it.....

Very disappointed in the attitude in the Bothy bar. The barman was surly, unsmiling and unwelcoming. The beer was flat and when we complained we were told there was nothing wrong with it and nobody else had complained. We had enjoyed the "Braveheart" beer on previous occasions, so we new it was off. We had another of the Moulin beers that was fine. We were not prepared to pay for the replacements which the barman accepted. The prices are equivalent to London prices, very expensive! Some staff training and improvement in customer relations are very necessary. A friendly Barman would improve the atmosphere immensely. Pete Kirk

Stayed overnight to attend the horse trials. Price was waaay over what the place was worth to stay in. £165 for no internet and no working tv in the room. We were told a 35 minute wait for dinner which came and was cold. One large glass of wine was £9.25. The only positives about the stay were it was clean and the staff were pleasant. Maybe worth £85 a night but no more.

Went in for drinks and was told it is table service only. We sat at a table and despite there being 3 members of staff doing nothing we left after 15 minutes as no one was interested in taking an order. The tables could also do with a good clean as they were very sticky with food and drink residue. The bar itself is quirky and would be a ice place to sit but the service was appalling and I can't recommend this to anyone.

Review: Atholl Arms Hotel The Atholl Arms Hotel is steeped in history and beautifully decorated, which makes it a charming place to stay. The staff were kind and helpful, contributing to a pleasant experience. However, the small restaurant/pub at the back of the building feels like a newer addition that doesn't quite match the historic charm of the rest of the hotel. It seems a bit like an afterthought and doesn't integrate well with the overall aesthetic. Regarding the accommodations, the rooms could use some attention. Specifically, we stayed in Room 101, located on the left corridor, first door on the left. The room was a good size but could benefit from some updates and more care. The bathroom, in particular, needs a remodel, as the taps don't work properly and it generally needs an overhaul. Despite these drawbacks, the hotel has potential, especially as a venue for events, which they actively advertise. With some improvements, the Atholl Arms Hotel could be truly outstanding. Rating: 7/10

The place is absolutely charming, the dining room, the lobby, resolutely Scottish. Ideal location for visiting Blair Castle. The staff is friendly, the food very good. But, and it's a big but, the rooms are not up to standard. Well, yes, on the third floor, without elevator. An old-fashioned room, 140 cm bed with worn-out spring mattress, outdated bathroom with a shower that no longer holds a trickle of water... what a shame, when this place could be perfect!

Hmmmm. A grand hotel from days past. And, it’s grand days seem to be past. The room I was given, on the third floor, was dated and funky. Worn carpet and poor bathroom. I paid £100 bnb, but that’s 25% more than the room quality warrants. The dining hall is impressive, the breakfast less so. The open fires are kept burning, and they are welcome. If I’m passing through here again, I’d look for somewhere else.

Wer "old world charme" erleben will ist hier am richtigen Platz.

Charming, atmospheric hotel that's not seen a refurb in half a century but I loved it. It's like a cool dream about an old hotel. The mattress is terrible, the water pressure from the electric shower is low, the electric wall-mounter heaters smack of 1970s council house but see past it. We stayed at the Atholl Arms for a weekend reunion with approximately 50 others. We had Friday and Saturday night suppers, and Celeidgh dancing on Saturday in their dining hall. Our family suite was pleasing - facing the road --quiet, clean and user friendly. Old fashioned desk service instead of a scanner/machine/robot. Dining room was super well-organised - breakfast orders taken efficiently and food delivered immaculately as ordered. For the numbers being served this was impressive. Friday night the best lasagne I have ever had was served. For this I asked the Maitre'd for the recipe and the chef personally wrote it down for me! Saturday night for the black tie dinner for 60+ salmon was served - again an excellent standard of food for such large numbers at one time for a local, family-style hotel. Requests and questions were answered and at busy times the staff remained cheerful and personable. We had a great time there! Tons to do and see around the area. Enjoy this old-school family - style hotel with high quality service while you can!

Nice pub to sit in for a drink but wouldn’t recommend the £13 macaroni cheese - it was 100% the Heinz variety from a tin just upended into a little dish - they hadn’t even seasoned or tried to hide it under a homemade cheese crust. I’ve came here for years upon years and live visiting to have a few sociable drinks and not necessarily eating. There is no doubting that the Taybank has considerable charm, the bar area exudes old-time allure and, coupled with the traditional music, is a great place for a pint. The restaurant, unfortunately, is another matter entirely. The food, apart from being grossly overpriced, proved to be largely inedible with two of our tables plates being returned to the kitchen uneaten and exchanged for cheese and biscuits. Enjoy a pint of Cheeky Chappie ale in the bar, by all means, but my advice would be to go elsewhere to eat. You have been warned!

Ordered vegan food and found what seemed like animal part in it. They insisted it was part of a mushroom which it clearly wasn’t. This made my wife feel sick and therefore couldn’t accept the offer of another meal. Offers of drinks etc weren’t acceptable as this had ruined our evening. I had to argue for any reduction in the bill and was threatened with the police if I didn’t pay. Appalling customer service.

We needed reservations but stopped in a little early and the maitre d' accommodated us. The food was fine but burgers in Scotland are not a match for Texas beef. The views from the windows were magnificent in the evening.

We were enjoying a nice drink in the beer garden one sunny afternoon, when a youth started shouting & swearing at us because we were English (which was funny in itself because none of us are 100% English). The locals were appalled at his behaviour & the landlord immediately ejected him, however, it cast a shadow on our visit.
