Freckletons in North Ayrshire

Great wee place. Can become very busy though, so advise to arrive earlier in the morning. I had a banana and biscoff frappe which was to die for. Would be especially lovely on a Summer's day.

Only here for today and so glad I found this place, Food and Staff first class 🔥

Waitresses were so lovely but management highly unfriendly. Food tasted awful, tasteless and watery, sorry but wouldn't ever go back.

Really not a place to visit staff non attentive no cutlery with our food. Cheap fillings no taste sadly

Lovely little gem of a stop for all you need food and hot drink, the service is fantastic, one of the ladies well had all the patter, ask for cheese and ham toastie, for her to say no cheese no ham then it all started from there, I asked can I have a bowl of soup with no bowl 😀, she was absaloutly amazing so funny and welcoming, oh they did have cheese and ham her patter was phenomenal, all staff served with a smile 10/10 for everything.

Absolutely love this place! . Visited many a time. Staff consistently friendly and very efficient. Food yummy. Well done guys you do a fantastic job and Irvine is lucky to have you 👍

Really dissapointing today. Used to go quite alot. Staff weren't very pleasant and didn't once come to check if the food was OK. Won't be back unfortunately.

Every meal we have here is beyond all expectations. the specials are often beyond dreams.

Absolute gem of an eaterie, this was my first visit. Had fantastic BBQ pulled pork fries for lunch, and possibly the best slice of carrot cake I've ever had in my life. Staff were very on the ball, friendly and smiley, quick service, reasonable prices, lovely atmosphere with staff chatting to customers young and old. Really nicely styled decor and menus/artwork on walls and outside the entrance, clean and tidy throughout. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Irvine.

Hadn't been in for years. But I was in for breakfast a few weeks ago and it was great. In for lunch today and again the burger special was lovely and the haggis fritter I could have had a plate of them alone. Well done to all still the same friendly environment.

Great food and service just a little cramped for space

UPDATE We decided to give it another try and were pleasantly surprised what a change of atmosphere, staff super nice, food was really good we loved it. We will be back 😊 Table had crumble on it waitress swopt them with her hands no sanitiser was used. The same moment she brought our coffees she also asked us how we wished to pay if cash or card we didnt even started our coffees. Wonder if this for everyone or just for us. Not coming back anytime soon as it didnt made feel welcome at all

I'm gluten intolerant, so I returned to Freckletons, however cafe was overly warm inside, noisy and after ordering a toasted cheese sandwich and vanilla shake I walked out disappointed, the tasted sandwich consisted of thick raw onions, three slices of toast and basically NO CHEESE and a side container of yeah, more onions and tomatoes which i did not ask for. The milkshake was overly sweet, as though someone threw in extra sugar, I could not finish it. They overly priced.

In a table service restaurant or cafe, customers who choose to sit in your external seating area, should not be expected to pay upfront for meals because other people have previously left without paying. It shouldn't be policy to assume all customers will not pay once they have finished 🙄.

Food good but staff talk about customers when they are there and think nobody notices this is including owners very rude not be back

A bit pricier than other places, BUT in this case it’s well worth it, GREAT service, GREAT food and GREAT Portion sizes never met the chef, but it’s seems like more than just a job, from the quality of the food personally you can tell it’s a passion and as for the management well they seem to know how to run a tight ship.

Been a regular at Freckleton's for years, went today for a meal, which included a side of fries, portion was an embarrassment, with a cost of £1.95, when I queried it, the Freckleton's staff couldn't give a monkey's, I won't be back in this place, it's a disgrace what they charge for what you get.

Appalled at the appearance of my breakfast I ordered to takeway, it was basically £1 an item of over cooked or re-heated bacon and square sausage, I couldn't cut with the plastic cutlery and mouldy warm bread for toast! The manager said he'll refund me for my toast. If I wasn't so ragin and let down, I'd laugh but the mentality of that has angered me more.

Excellent food, service was good.

Had a small breakfast (very small) and a cup of tea. Was charged£9.40. Really. They must have got it mixed up for a large breakfast.

Visit this cafe every time we come to Irviine. We've never been disappointed with any meal but the Fish & Chips is our favourite. Delicious fluffy fish in a non greasy light batter, great chunky chips & mushy peas. Yum! Portion size is very good and very filling. Please don't change the chef. Living in Renfrewshire we've missed our Irvine visits through the lockdown. However we are travelling down today Sunday April 18th -now some estrictions eased). I called the Rivergate Centre to see if Freckltons was open to do take out. Sadly it is not ☹ We look forward to when hopefully the cafe reopens. We'll definitely back for their delicious fish & chips. Hope all the Freckletons team have been safe through this pandemic

Selling a house from overseas during a pandemic (initial enquiry in March 2020, listed in September, asking price offer accepted within a few weeks) while I was effectively shut out of the UK for many months was a huge challenge that would have been impossible without the hugely professional support of Michael, Karl and the team. At every stage of the process, they were always keeping me in the loop and kept things ticking along, even when unforeseen problems appeared. My experience has been 100% positive and I would be happy to use them again.

I went here yesterday for lunch with a friend, wow I decided to get a fancy milkshake it was salted caramel, fudge and cream. It was the best milkshake I ever had! Food was also delicious...if you want lovely food and the best milk shake ever please try here, you will not be disappointed, I want to go back as soon as possible for another one. YUMMY..x

My wife is a regular but on this occasion she did not even enter. The place was far to busy with no social distancing so felt very uneasy. So not impressed

Wonderful food, wonderful staff. My husband takes me there, I am disabled and it never bothers them that I am in a wheelchair. They are always happy to see us. I would highly recommend them🌝

Boyfriend and I went here as a treat and food wasn't the best tasted microwaved. Then I pay the bill and the prices were cheaper on the menu than what I got charged. Was fumming won't be back

This place shouldn't work in Irvine as it is not too cheap but it is always mobbed. This is because they produce good quality food time and time again. Nice coffee, nice cakes and tasty food. It goes to show that people will pay for quality and consistency.Been coming here for years and never had a bad panini or coffee. Sounds simple but amazing how many cafes and restaurants can be inconsistent. What they do, they do it well.

Wonderful little hidden gem, this cafe had one of the best cafe sandwiches I have had at a cafe, can't go wrong with bacon, service and timeliness was great, would highly recommend to take family or friend out for lunch treat.

The staff are brilliant ... warm and chatty. The menu varies from week to week BUT, there Toasties are the best in the business.

Been a regular to freckletons for years. My visit today will change that. The waitress are always spot on very attentive and look after you. My mum had the steak baguette, and I had fish in chips can't go wrong. With fish and chip or so I thought. Was a small hair on my fish. What put me off, as it would many people. I said to the waitress who apolagised and said shed get the manager. Every waitress came to the table. The manager/owner came and straight away said it may be yours these things happen.. I agreed these things happend and said mine is curly as I have a huge curly beard... It was offered to be replaced and I refused as I lost appetite, Even when paying it was Took of the bill although the manager was admit, that it happens at home. But were in a cafe/restraunt. And am sorry the owners customer service was what put me off today.

We stopped off here for something to eat and drink it was a lovely live place that locals and tourist used the food was lovely and freakishly cooked and there's a good selection of food and drink e staff are friendly and helpful

I usually lunch here as it has such a varied nice menu. Of course it's slightly pricier than Macdonald's or wetherspoons but it's immaculate n beautifully decorated. Tables quite close which I don't mind as this discourages some parents letting their kids run riot.the staff too are diligent without looking brassed off like some pubs & cafes. It's a great dedtressing for me + comparable to puffers near the harbour. To the lady who thought it was over priced, why didn't she tot up prices on menu beforehand? And if she reckons it was pricy, try Costa with kids (or adults). Last time they loaded my drink nearly half cup with ice+ were unapologetic when I queried it. And you pay extra for ever squirt of flavour, different milk type or whatever at these large chains.I live in England now but when visiting family town of Irvine, I always head to freckletons if buying lunch or a snack

Great place for a catch-up and friendly service

The food is average nothing special I ordered 1 baked potato with cheese 1 kids cheese sandwich and 1 cheese and ham kids sandwich with 2 fruitshots and a soft drink, when it came to pay it was nearly 20 pound,that in my view is a bit to much for what was served.Waitresses were nice and helpful. Ladies at the till when i asked about an item on my bill they looked each other in a weird way that I did not appreciated as I have the right to ask for explanations on what I am paying if it doesn't make sense to mePlus I was babysitting for a friend and I had to be abke to explein what I was charged for seen she was paying for the lunch.So perhaps the two ladies could do with a bit of customer service training in order to learn how to deal with customers general demand.

This is a friendly wee cafe it caters for all . Vegetarian , gluten free choice etc . The choice is amazing from a lite bite to a larger meal . It is clean and friendly and a great place to chill out .

I dress as a biker and it seems because of this was seen as a flight risk? Maybe? Had to pay up front. Food lovely and staff nice enough .

My wife and I visited Freckletons yesterday, as we were shopping in Irvine. I had known of Freckletons for a while, but I had never visited. We decided to visit for a coffee to pass the time until we would travel home.

Been visiting this little cafe for many years and always enjoy what we order, food is always nicely presented and we'll cooked , if I could suggest one improvement it would be larger napkins , I know doesn't sound much but would be appreciated .

First visit here in several years, and most definitely a final visit.

Breakfast so overcooked. A total wast of money. Would have been better going to Asda for breakfast. Customer service skills lack on these premises.

I went with my family and two grandchildren ordered food for all except sleeping child it was lovely and served well the child woke up and the management got him a bowl of chips foc while we finished our food. I visit this cafe on a regular basis and find everyone and all staff very efficient. Will definitely keep going.

Not usually a coffee shop person in Ayrshire as I work in Glasgow.Had the best ever French toast with Christmas twist of cranberry .It was top notch at a reasonable price.Coffee was excellent as was the moccha according to my friend visiting from Corfu.Her panini looked great!We both were impressed by the service.Cake was brilliant.Highly recommend a wee pop in there.

A quick stop to grab a coffee just before closing time. Service was attentive but not pushy despite close to time. Would give it another go but was surprised at the 5pm closing time especially so close to Christmas

We've been regulars after this cafe for some years and never let's down we've tried various items from the simple but very tasty menu , staff are attentive and friendly and prices are reasonable.

Ordered a milkshake, my daughter sent it back as it was overly sweet and powdery. Asked for another drink and was charged for it. The waitress was told to tell us this was because there was nothing wrong with it! To be charged over £3 for milk and powder is what was wrong with it. The owners try to give the impression that the cafe is better than it is. Its popularity is down to location. Try Gro Coffee at the Harbour for a genuine warm welcome and superior ingredients, like fresh fruit in the milkshakes!

Went for breakfast. £4.50, you get 1 fried egg, 1 slice of lorne, 1 slice black pudding, 1 tattie scone, 1 slice of bacon and a slice of toast dumped on top of the plate.My friend couldn't cut her bacon, lorne or tattie scone with the knife provided, perhaps a chainsaw would have helped her eat more than the black pudding and egg. My friend showed the waitress and she took the plate away.They had the nerve to charge full price too. When my friend told the lady at the counter (turns out to be the owner) that her breakfast was hard, the owners reply was 'I don't think so! everyone else seems to be enjoying theirs'I showed her negative reviews on trip advisor, especially the other one experiencing the same problem.and I was shocked further by her attitude....... 'I DON'T CARE ABOUT REVIEWS ON TRIP ADVISOR'Her customer care skills are non existent!

Have eaten here many times my favourite being the steak baguette Always quick pleasant service and good value for money although not the cheapest in town.

This place sells great food and cakes definitely not to be missed staff are lovely and helpful it can get very busy at times coffee is good too

Have walked past Freckletons on many occassions but decided to pop in and see what they had to offer...Nice menu with daily specials board...Service was good, waitress was very friendly but i felt it was rather expensive for what we got..Could have got the same lunch for half the price elsewhere....

Overpriced for what u actually get 14 for 2 breakfasts and a coffee each, no beans with the breakfast and the potatoe scone come wasn't fried very dry and the bacon was dry to. Only in the cafe no more than 2 mins looking at menu and get asked if we want to order, of course not I've not got past the first part and we were both clearly looking at the menu. Just stopped eating and get asked if we want anything else, think ur staff need some lessons in customer service or else they just want money off u and back out the door either way I certainly won't be back.

My husband & I came in here offer & always had a lovely delicious meal. However the last time we were in the menu had been changed & unfortunately we are not so keen on the new menus

This cafe is always very busy, which can at times impact upon the service. I had to approach the counter to place an order as the waitresses appeared not to notice me. I had a steak baguette with mushroom, onion and mustard Mayo. Unfortunately my mustard Mayo was missing and this is what makes the baguette amazing. Maybe next time it will be better.

Been to Freckletons a few times, staff are friendly but not very good, food is so so but think it is expensive for what it is tried half a dozen times over the last few Years always as a last resort, then I remember why!

This seems to be a very popular diner we have on many occasions popped in for coffee and lunch and we haven't once went in and it wasn't busy the food is good the service good with waitress service at the tables there is outside tables but you cannot smoke at them as they are at the beginning of the Irvine Mall it has great wheelchair access and its good for kids too all in all its a wee winner.

I have often passed freckletons whilst shopping, just thinking it was a coffee shop what a understatement! We decided to go in after going into wetherspoons and being unable to get a seat with my grans wheelchair, immediately received great service a waitress came over and got us a table and moved chairs to get the wheelchair into the table. The menu is reasonably given that the food is freshly made on the premises all delicious. We had Fish & chips with tartar sauce, Macaroni + garlic bread and Italian chicken panini. The only thing my gran would had prefered was chunky chips but she was overwhelmed with the portion size anyways. The cakes looked amazing so will definitely return to try some!! It was good being able to go up to the counter to pay that way you don't feel pressured to leave.....keep up the good work what a hidden gem within the shopping centre!!!

Freckletons has been in Irvine for years and has always been popular for lunch. They serve great fresh food from soup to sandwiches and Panini's to great cakes. Good coffee and a great location. So why not 5 stars. . .1st the staff should try service with a smile. 2nd when paying at the counter it would be nice to be asked if I enjoyed my food. Finally is it difficult to serve a glass of cold tap water?
