Not been in for a while but decided to go as we'd heard it was under new management. The place was clean and staff welcoming. We had lunch and two Jack's with coke for less than £35. Food was excellent as well. Highly recommend the Lion and Star.

Recently visited while on holiday , ordered the dirty Denver fries and Mac and cheese. The service was quick and friendly , the staff were very polite. The food came very quickly and definitely didn't disappoint. For a side , the fries were a large portion and cooked to perfection. The bar staff were quick and made sure everything was right. Really nice atmosphere and very clean restaurant, best meal I've had while in Kirky. We will be visiting again , definitely recommend. Keep up the good work.

Went into the lion and star before work for a spot of lunch was greeted and seated by the staff on shift I ordered the dirty denvor fries the food that arrived at my table was amazing and the portions where huge compliments to the chef on today will certainly be back

Had a lovely birthday breakfast this morning with my husband and the kids. Portions were massive and food tasted amazing. The staff were really friendly, attentive and surprised me with a cake. We will definitely visit again.

Was back at this place a couple of weeks ago to meet a friend for coffee, I really wish I hadn't. When I went upto the bar to pay for our coffee's the "chef" was standing at the end of the bar, I glanced over just at the time when he wiped his nose with his bare hand and then rubbed it into his chef whites. I could not believe what I saw, sickened and disgusted is a huge understatement. Will NEVER set foot in place again. My husband and I used to love this place, now I wish they would shut it down

On this dreich day in kirkintilloch my plan had been to visit another venue until i found it closed for refurbishment. I had two minds to head into the city for food but as i had passed this venue on my way i figured why not try. I am happy that i did. I had a very nice steak frites with garlic butter and side salad at an unbeatable price for the quality. The venue is airy, modern and has some background music. I am sure it will be a popular weekend venue however on this occasion was quiet though not empty. The staff were friendly and service was good. My steak was cooked to perfection. I am very happy i didnt pass on by!

The food staff drinks and decor are second to none !! The staff cant do enough for you and the food is lovely iv eaten in here 6 times in the last year and every time is better than the last The steak deal 25 quid for 2 staeks sides sauce and a bottle of wine Is Fantastic !! just wish it was busier cause iff this was in the City centre id still pay 100 quid and not complain GET Yourself IN THERE !!

We visited here today having kept Wetherspoons as our go to for pub grub and general eating out in kirky. We will now be visiting here a lot more often.. Why? Good service... Good food... Good hygiene... Good atmosphere.. That's not to say spoons don't do this on occasion but my girlfriend and I visit a lot of places and know what we like. The Lion and Star did not disappoint. We got the Bavarian Hotdog with chilli and cheese and the steak pie... Our wee boy chicken nuggets. Bavarian footlong hotdog was sublime. The steak pie was delicious with great meat used. The chicken nuggets were... Chicken nuggets. Customer service was fantastic... Very friendly... Accomdated any request and paid our baby boy lovely compliments. We will definitely be back and probably in the not to distant future.

First time in the lion and star and will be the last. On entering approached by a young girl who appeared to know what she was doing,how wrong was I. Showed to seating area at the left of the main door table to seat 4 people we asked if we could have a booth but she seemed unsure if we could so we opted for the original seat Drinks arrived ok and asked for more time to study menu.waited around 20 mins finished drinks and still no food order taken.place not busy people ordering drinks and payment taken.still sitting for our FOOD ORDER to be taken. Enough we said paid for drinks and left POOR SERVICE.POOR MANAGEMENT. POOR HUNGRY CUSTOMERS 😒

me and my husband were in for a meal on Tuesday night, it was beautiful and the girl who served us was lovely. She was a bit run of her feet but the manager was just stood behind the bar on her phone all the time shouting orders. It did not look good from a professional view , although the food was amazing we will most defiantly be back again :)

Great Menu Breakfast was superb and Dinner just as good. Platter and sea bass brilliant. Please don't leave the sea bass off the new menu.

Nicest staff ever!! Had a minor problem with an order and were provided a full dinner dessert and a botttle of wine the next day! Food is also delicious would recommend :)

Went for lunch, extensive menu to choose from and to suit all tastes. Big portion size and food cooked well, tastes great. The chicken pie was excellent loads of chicken & very creamy, my friend couldn’t eat all the macaroni so Debbie the waitress offered to put it in a tub to take home, she was very friendly and helpful, chatted to us about general things not just taking our order. Would definitely recommend eating here.

Popped down for drinks yesterday saw 2 lots of people walk out, asked twice for an order, nearly walked out myself without paying, asked twice for the bill ended up going inside to pay...1 girl just collecting glasses and 2 taking orders... Was madness only thing going for it is it does a good pint of neckoil

The one star I would give to the young girls who work in this place , they were extremely nice and very friendly. That’s the only positive I can give. We went in as a couple , the staff were nice, good start, then my starter turned up, chicken wings, a favourite of mine. Well, these wings were covered or indeed splattered with a very heavy grease soaked thick batter! I genuinely have never experienced anything like it ! My wife had Bruschetta which was a massive portion which she deemed okay. Main course was was fish and chips, definitely frozen and bland. Main course for myself was Cajun chicken pasta. Plentiful pasta , supermarket sliced chicken on top, no flavour at all, I ate some of the pepper .we left 90% of the food !. This was up there as one of the worst eateries I have ever experienced . Avoid it, there are many other places to eat .

Ordered. Food last nite was late cold. Very bland. Tasteless. Burgers. Dry no Sauce but ordered ! Ordered loaded skins. As pict shows. Disgusting. ☹️waist of £30

Wow just wow! We had our Christmas Dinner delivered in a beautiful. The food was 10/10,massive quantity of everything. What fantastic service!

I ordered Haggis Bonbon starter and Steak Pie for mains; both freshly made, warm and ready for collection in 30 minutes (along with a few pints of fresh and chilled Moretti lager).Very pleasant manager who had recommended last night we had a sit down Sunday roast but circumstances meant we couldn’t earlier, however the meal I had was delicious and great portion size and taste of all the food. I like to support the businesses who are suffering during these times and will definitely recommend this place for food and drink, whether sitting in or taking out.Well done and thanks too to the chef for this lovely meal. Much enjoyed and appreciated.

Came here with my husband on Friday for the second time. We were a bit nervous and unsure with all the new rules but exceeded expectations, again!Instantly greeted when we arrived by Ross the manager who guided us through everything we had to do and really put us at ease . Food was beautiful and staff so friendly, Jessica was serving our table and very knowledgable and Ross surprised us with the most delicious complimentary cocktail to finish our evening! Such a charming and comfortable restaurant. We’re booked to come back on Wednesday! Keep up the great work

Visited here with family for a meal ,first impressions were why are half the staff wearing masks and the other half not? I can see the point if they were social distancing but they weren't for most of the time.The food was mediocre at best, katsu curry is Japanese but it was served with a Nan bread which is Indian, also a packet curry sauce probably a knorr variety or the likes doesn't constitute a katsu sauce! The onion rings were soaked in oil and bereft of batter, partner had a Cajun chicken pasta dish this was a bland mess of overcooked linguine and double cream with a hint of something spicy, the southern fried chicken burger was simply breaded chicken with a cheap Cajun spice poured on it, nothing southern fried about it unfortunately. If it wasn't for the eat out offer I would have complained, the other reason for not complaining is that the staff were totally over stretched for the amount of people in the place, I didn't want to add to the already stressful time they seemed to be having dealing with other customers. All in all a very disappointing experience.

Arrived in for some lunch with friends, food did take a while to come out but enjoyed the chicken burger also portions where huge but can’t complain! Was served by a lovely Manager Jessica, very friendly and helpful with menu choices. Thank you for making us feel safe and explaining the procedures to follow. We will be back.

Where to start :(I was left waiting a really REALLY long time for my foodFood came out cold....rice hardHad no choice but to ask for it to be reheated.....they obviously reheated it in the micro which made the chicken go all dry.(Although the chicken was cold but decent before. They didn't have any nan bread so said they would make garlic bread instead.....still waiting on it.They forgot my drinks orderand we didn't get any till after we finished our food.This was obviously not just our table that had issues as 2 different tables beside me were also dissapointed with the service as well.I have given 3 stars but this is probably more generous than they deserve.The steak pie really is the only thing I can comment on positively.The flavour is beautiful....even if it was cold Could do better Lion StarCOULD DO BETTER

Visited this Lion & Star last night was a great to go out and it was very secure and safe place with hand sanitiser at the door asked to leave details. The food was great I had the fish & chips and my other half had a steak. Even better we had it for half price with the eat out scheme. The staff were amazing especially with everything that’s going on just now, but keep it up and we will be back soonxx

Myself and my wife, brother and law and his partner spent a wonderful evening in The fabulous Lion and Star. We ordered the tex mex sharing platter to start along with some cheeky cocktails and both were fab. We then have steaks to order, a tomahawk, 2 ribeyes and a fillet which were perfection so much so we asked if they could bag up what we never had room for so we could eat the rest later! The staff were so helpful and friendly they made the whole post lockdown experience so pleasurable. Absolutely faultless start to finish and I can’t wait to come back ☺️ Ps. Their Fluffy Woo woo’s are the best I’ve ever had!

Not good at all had no record of my menu choice when phoned down as told to do so . Was told be a 40 minute wait so what was the point of pre ordering. Manager not a good manner very unprofessional not all staff had face coverings on the toilets where disgusting some had no locks not very pleasant at this time

I waited 50 mins for a breakfast the pub was quiet with very little coming out of the kitchen, food was cold when it arrived some elements square sausage bacon etc were brick hard and had been lying for a while.

Being utterly appalled by the service this vehicle provides. Took over two hours to get ma food, had to get a glucagon injection to stop me from frothing at the gub. Ma wain was greetin the whole time was heavy jobby, once 2032 passed my food arrived which was actually bangin.In summary bring a good reclining chair and get ready to wait 22 year just to gain a second mortgage to pay for your succulent Chinese meal.

Myself, wife and 2 kids tried this restaurant for lunch today. Although I’m born and bred in Kirkintilloch, we have never tried the Lion and Star before because I assumed it was like Wetherspoons. How wrong I was. On a side note they have done a fantastic job making it COVID safe. The staff were very friendly and very professional. The burgers were absolutely fantastic. They include a side (huge) dip of warm creamy Cajun dip, my wife had a warm cheese dip, both were superb. The guys in the kitchen take a lot of time and effort over the food which you can see from the restaurant, it was nice to see a bit of pride in what they do and it showed. The waitresses were great, the restaurant was full and with all the COVID precautions they are bound by, I thought they did a fantastic job might be a bit slower, but fair enough that’s not their fault so remember that. I think you can tell I was highly impressed. Whether it’s half price from the “dine in to help out” scheme or not we’ll be back because the food is good and great value for money. Well done.

Absolutely brilliant. We've recently had takeaway twice and 10 out of 10 for service, delivery time, customer service and of course quality of food. Portion sizes are massive. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Thank you.

Ordered the mixed tonight off just eat was good till I cut in to stake was a bad smell from this when I opened the box then tasted bad

The food was great The staff were lovely, very child friendly, Nothing was too much for them, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our birthday celebrations. Would highly recommend it, and we will certainly be back again very soon

We had a family meal last night 21st for 9 and as usual meal and service from staff was excellent. All staff brilliant and Simon made me birthday cocktail. We all had brilliant night

We had not eaten here for a good couple of years due to previous experiences but purely by accident ended up here last night and what a pleasant surprise. We started with a sharing platter followed by a pork and chicken mains and everything was very good. It’s pub food so don’t expect high end but the staff were great, portions a good size, everything brought to the table in good time and for us good value. We came away very impressed and intend going back so well done to all.

I had a wonderful meal this evening in this restaurant. The salmon in a bed of mash with green beans and chilli sauce was fantastic. You would not get better flavours in a top west end place. The food was reasonably priced and the service was good. There was an extensive menu with lots of choice. I will definitely return!

I hadn’t been here since it was The Antonine ( and that wasn’t yesterday!), and I’m really glad we went there yesterday. Gammon steak was lovely, and the wee salad accompaniment was very fresh, skinny fries crispy and well cooked. Himself’s customary fish and chips was hot and well cooked, and both our portions were HUGE, so we had to leave some to leave room for the excellent sticky toffee pudding.Service was a wee bit slow, but it was very busy, and our servers were delightful.We’ll definitely be back, but with a bigger appetite next time!

Good varied menu reasonable prices, food was hot and plentiful. A very busy place, but then it was a Friday night ,lol will definitely try again.

My friend and I come here quite regular. The food is really good and the portion sizes are huge. The staff are very nice too.

Well laid out with lots of tables. Booths can be hired for a special occasion. Good food and wine selection. Outside seating available. Good choice of well prepared food on the menu.

Called in for dinner with my Son who was visiting from Bristol. He had the American Hot Dog with Skin On fries with a side of Lobster Mac’n Cheese. I had the cheese Burger with Bacon and Skin on fries. Two enormous plates arrived with a further, large plate of battered onion rings which I had ordered as a side and were delicious. All perfectly complimented by a couple of pints of Amstel.

Thought it would be nice to have a last minute dinner out with my other half. Booked the table online which was very easy. Ordered our food with the waitress, starters were great (frozen food deep fried). Mains came, this is where it all went wrong. (Bearing in mind I am 7 months pregnant). My southern fried chicken burger came out which was monstrous in size, Partners steak looked a bit pale, he ordered a medium rib eye. We both had normal fries on our plate even though we had asked for salt and chilli fries and Cajun fries. At this point I wasn’t bothered by the wrong fries, didn’t want to have to wait for the other ones so didn’t mention it. Cut into my “burger” to try and make it edible. Only to find the chicken completely RAW inside. But very crispy on the outside. The rib eye steak was pale on the outside but cooked well done all the way through, the fat was still like jelly. Goodness knows how they managed to cook a steak that size all the way through without cooking the fat on the outside? The poor waitress had no idea how to deal with our complaints. The manager apologised and told us he had taken the burger off the bill. And didn’t charge my partner for his next pint of beer. I felt very disappointed and quite hungry after “dinner” which cost us £82. (This did include a few drinks). I definitely won’t be visiting again for food and will not recommend to any friends in the area. In fact most of them already know about my experience. Very disappointing.

Visited for the first time last night for something to eat and to watch a football match and I have to say it was perfect for what we were looking for. The staff were so friendly, quick with a smile and a bit of banter and they helped create a lovely relaxed friendly atmosphere. Good choice of drinks and plenty to choose from on them menu. A midweek special of two main courses and a bottle of wine for £20 is fantastic value for money and the the food was great "pub grub" served well. The lay out is great with booths (individual small TV screens if a football match is on) as well as table and as I said just a great friendly atmosphere.

Easy to be overlooked by staff when a regular.

My family and I came in today at lunch time for a lovely meal we were very impressed, compliments to the chief. Everything was made perfect by the lovely girl behind the bar named Becky. She was very obliging and friendly with a beautiful warm personality that you would hope for while eating out. She is an asset to this lovely little place. She definitely brightened up our day. We will be back hopefully on Becky's shift and we highly recommend this place to anyone . Thank you for a lovely meal.

Friendliest service in kirky. What really makes this place so lovely is the young blond girl who's name I can't remember did I get it right? She always has a smile and some nice chat, even when she is on by herself and rushed off her feet. Also must make special mention of chef and kitchen staff, I am having a tough time eating right now, so I ask for what I can force down at the moment, poached eggs, toast and bacon. No matter what time of day or night, they do it for me. And it is delicious!! Eggs running just as I request. Want to thank all at lion and star. You are making a tough time a little easier for me and I appreciate all of you for it x

Came for my sister's 60th, they had tables set out for us, the service was good, menu comparable with similar type pub/grills, food was decent i.e. good but wouldn't write home, service was as good as most places I've been recently and better than many hence 3* food and 5* service

Husband and I visited with the kids on Saturday night. Great food, music & staff. Nice atmosphere for older kids. Will definitely visit again.

Been here for a drink many times but never a meal... decided to get some food one day we had popped in they were busy but accommodating. The menu is great lots to choose from for young and old,we ordered a starter and mains but the starter was amazing and the portions were huge. We were stuffed at the end and the price was surprising for what we got. Fantastic service fantastic food and fantastic prices.

Been here a few times. Had a slight issue with my meal today which was dealt with and resolved by the friendly staff .enjoyed our meal and look forward to returning again . The staff are so friendly and the place always had a lovely wee atmosphere also reasonably priced and good portions .

I went to the Lion and Star for my birthday lunch on Christmas Eve. It was a lovely lunch served by friendly staff. It bar was quite busy but the service was good. The food was good served from a menu with great vatiety

My brother and I stopped here on a cycle run. We hadn't used the Lion and Star before but both of us were happy with some decent pricing - house wine around £3+ per glass - and the meals menu was also well priced - but we just wanted a bite, so didn't try one. We had coffees and cake, good sized portions, and not breaking the bank. Ok the apple pie was microwaved but in January we weren't that fussy. Service was friendly - but not quick, but we weren't in a hurry, so this wasn't a problem. I liked the pub/restaurant and would certainly consider eating there in future given the reasonable prices. Happy to go back.

Just wanted to post a nice review to compliment the New Year's Eve night last night. All staff worked very hard to make sure it was a good night. Enjoyed by all including having Jim the piper there. Had a lovely meal and nice drinks as always !

My husband and I went for breakfast today, as we have done on many of occasions, the young boy who served us, whom I since discovered is a manager, was very unfriendly, unapproachable and not a people person. He took our order and forgot part of it and my tea was like reheated tar, we have been many many times and this is the first time I have had to complain. We will never go back when this person is working. I called to complain and discovered he was a manager, so in my politest manner but also honest manner, I told him exactly what I thought of his non existent people skills. The other members of staff are an absolute credit to this pub, what a shame I can't say the same about this manager.

My average score does not reflect the food served here. I have eaten here 6 times and never had a bad meal. This Is by no means a Gastro bar, however the Lion & Star serves honest tasty food freshly cooked and served in decent portions. the reason for the lower score is that as a pub, I feel it is a bit overpriced for Kirkintilloch, and sometimes the dining experience can be tarnished by the conflicting pub environment around the bar.

The Mac and cheese burger with bacon was sexual and the star burger was extravagant, the service was excellent too! Will Defos be back... lion and 5 stars!!!

Just tried the Sunday roast at the lion and star and it was really lovely. Never disappoints and the staff are amazing. They couldn't do more for you and are always welcoming and smiling .

An impromptu lunch Lion ⋆ I had the steak pie it was delicious my lunch partner had the chicken pie and was also impressed . Considering my friend is a chez this was high praise indeed .Would definitely return .

Called in enroute home. The place was warm and welcoming. Served quickly and the meal prepared to a high standard. Steak pie was great, as was the scampi. The skin on chips were awesome! You can get two main meals and a bottle of Prosecco for £20 on a Thursday

Starter was served with main meal... then main meal of chicken skewers consisted of 4 skinny bits of chicken hidden under a plate of chips. When asked where the onion and peppers were I was told they are mixed in with the rice. I had asked for chips instead of rice, which I have ordered a few times before and received chunks of chicken served on skewers with the onion and peppers. The waiter then appeared with a dish of raw onion and peppers. Trivial complaint to some but a disgrace to serve that and charge £10 for basically a plate of chips, and lying into the bargain. Will not be back and will tell others who go of shoddy service

Was there first this morning before they opened, welcomed by Chef, we went back just after 10am welcomed by Simon there management team member, bought over 2pots of fresh made tea with cups warmed up nice touch, we had French Toast and Bacon Stack too much to finish so we were told you can take it home with you, put in plastic container I had fresh made pancakes and Bacon with maple syrup really nice would recommend this establishment, we will be back for breakfast and try diner at night.

Came in for a drink, and I asked if They still served food at 10:30 and was rudely told there was no kitchen staff present. We went to take a seat with our drinks and one of the drinks had spilled on the table. We heard a loud sigh and a slam at the bar as he slammed the cleaning roll down. We took it and cleaned up our mess, but he proceeded to come over to wipe up the table, and proceeded to call my partener and brother fat.

Not bad. Typical pub meals, good atmosphere. Not a posh restaurant, just your typical pub food. Had the Pie and chips was really nice. The pub was busy so to me that means it is consistently good food.

Decided to give the lion and star another bash, the bar doesn't stock my tipple Gordon's gin, every other gin under the sun was there but managers just don't seem to understand some people just aren't into the flavoured gins, I really felt water would have done but decided to take a glass of wine, didn't really want anything else alcoholic, so that was my last drink of the evening, lost a bit of business there Mr Manager ! We waited 15 minutes for our food order to be taken, the food duly arrived pretty quickly ? I doubt it was freshly cooked ? The grilled salmon with mash was better than the last time we were there, we asked was the fish haddock, no it was whiting apparently haddock wasn't sustainable ! The spaghetti Bolognese arrived in a piping hot plate but it was actually tepid tasteless languine and Bolognese really needed seasoned and couldn't taste any herbs of any description, the macaroni was ok but nothing spectacular, all the time the waiter was constantly in our face I think he wanted to hear the meal was amazing, one of my party when asked how it was said it's fine the response was are you not enjoying it ? He was told again it was fine, the sweet potato fries were soggy the response was I'll take something off the bill which was appreciated, all in all it really could be a good place to eat if adjustments were made to the recipes, and the waiter drops the word cool to everything we responded to, unfortunately due to the mediocre food and not having our Gordon's gin we won't be back sorry

Visited for the first time today for a birthday lunch.

Went for brunch here with my partner. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere. The background music wasn’t too loud, enjoyable too. I ordered the French toast and bacon stack. Amazing! My partner ordered the Scottish breakfast. Both portions were massive. Definitely worth the money. Would return in a heartbeat.

Been here a few times now for breakfast and everything we have tried has been lovely, the full English is definitely not for the light hearted. Nothing was too much of a problem for the staff or the chef. Lovely decor and friendly helpful staff. We will definitely be back to visit and would totally recommend to family and friends.

Thought we would venture out further than the kirki puffer... big mistake going to lion & star. Served by an arrogant barman who looked to be the manager. Back to the puffer we go

Was nervous after reading some reviews but this was a lovely evening. Nice decor and atmosphere and service did not disappoint (although we felt the drinks were a little slow to arrive). Staff were patient and friendly. Food was good but a little overpriced for what is standard pub grub. My salmon was also oversalted, and one if the party opted for salad rather than peas with their fish and it was just green leaves out a packet. In a restaurant like this you'd expect at least a dressing but some tomato/onion/pepper would have taken it up a notch. Cocktails were lovely!

Myself and friend went to cocktails and canapé evening on Thu what a great night. Sean made a terrific cocktail waiter and Simon very attentive making sure enough to eat. Compliments must also go to chef the canapé were delicious. Well done lion and star can't fault anything about it we love it.

We've eaten here a few times now and haven't been disappointed. It's very child friendly and the staff always provide crayons and colouring in. We love the breakfasts - the food is good, and the coffee tasty and it's a nice place to chill out and have a leisurely brunch. The meal deal during the week is very good value and there's always some very tasty specials. My next mission is to give the cocktails a try as they always look good!

Stopped by one relaxed Monday afternoon. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who told us to sit wherever we wanted, but guided us to a booth which was too high off the ground to be comfortable, with no foot rest in front, just behind. That would have been great for a quick drink but after a meal, our legs hurt! Please put a foot bar at the centre front. We ordered food from the menu, starters and steaks. Our starters were perfect. Prawn tempura with the lightest crunchiest batter and calamari cooked to perfection. The steaks were not so great. I ordered my 8oz rare it came medium well done and partner ordered his 12 oz well done,, came rare. Not a great start - but more oddly, they both came served on top of chips, making the chips soggy. I think the timing was a bit off in the kitchen. We also ordered pepper sauce and garlic mushrooms, and I don't know what came but it frankly was watery cream in both pots with raw mushrooms in one. I have no idea what that was about, but I would suggest a look at that. Wasn't until we came home we saw they had an offer on for steaks, which we would have taken up had we been offered it or had we seen it in the restaurant as it would have saved us some money on what turned out to be pricey sub-Puffer standard mains. Place has potential, but an unengaged waitress, timing issues in the kitchen and strange sauce and side issues made our first visit probably our last. Back tot eh Coachman for us, I'm afraid. And the starts gave us such high hopes.

The food was great The service was great No complaints about anything from start to finish. The staff were so helpful and accompanying to your every need.

We decided to go in for a couple of drinks after completing a bit of car business. Sat at the bar for 10 min without a single acknowlagment. Another couple came in who the barman clearly knew and promptly took their order. Left the premises

Fabulous food and great service.mixed grill was amazing and Included a lovely steak..I had a tomahawk steak which had all the trimmings and was fabulous with a free bottle of wine..cocktail was tasty too and the service was attentive. What a huge difference a different owner makes.no frozen food here ..p's I am very particular about food..

As usual chefs are doing a great job but front of house seriously need to focus on efficient table service. Definite loss of sales, werent offered any desserts or even any attempt to clear plates after we had finished in an environment which could never be classed as busy. Staff letting you down. They are nice staff but they really need to put themselves in their customers shoes.

The only meal I’ve had is the salmon because it’s so good. I need to try some other dishes here rather than the same one. Nice place. Friendly staff. Nice seating area outside too.

Greeted with a smiley waitress on Feb 28th,the first day of the recent bad weather.i think everyone had the same idea to get out of the cold and blizzards.not dissapointed....excellent 2 main meals...chilli and steak pie...the restaurant was probably busier than expected due to the weather situation but the staff coped very well and were very welcoming.

Popped in for lunch, first time visit. Saw this place on passing through the town and felt it looked nice, and it certainly was. Really pleasant staff, nice bright interior, and good choice of seats, high tables at windows, booths by the walls. Good selection on the menu, I had fish and chips whilst my wife had a BLT. The food took a while coming, but that's a sign that it's prepared on order rather than some places that do precooked/reheat/microwave meals. Fish was cooked perfectly, nice white fish too, no grey meat in it, it was lovely. Good chips and peas and the tartare sauce looked home made. My wife picked a BLT, having chosen brown bread and it came nicely toasted with side salad and nacho style crisps. We had teas and coffees as we were driving today, could've done with a beer or a cider, they had a good choice of those... maybe next time. Really like the Lion and Star, will definitely be back.

Visited here on a Saturday evening with my Gran, as it’s the one restaurant in Kirkintilloch we hadn’t been to. Had heard very mixed reviews so decided to see for ourselves. Really nice bar, but would say that’s all it was...a bar. No separate dining area and to be honest on a Saturday night you have to decide which one you are-the lights were dimmed around 8.45pm which left us unable to see what we were eating. Quite loud with music playing-as I said, great for a bar on a Saturday night but not so much the atmosphere you want for a meal!

Booked Wednesday evening with the other half for valentines dinner. Three course’s with a bottle of prosecco just £35 per couple. At that price thought the portions were gonna be tiny but not at all. This was proper restaurant food at pub prices. Fantastic value for money.

My husband and I are regulars both for drinks and food find it excellent on both occasions. Staff very friendly especially boychek think that's how you spell it Kimberly Sean Laura and Simon would not hesitate to recommend to anyone else

Had a fabulous meal staff were very attentive would definitely return. Steak was just as we asked for medium rare. Wine was excellent also reasonably priced.

Popped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning after a run. Good value. Served hot. Pleasant surroundings. Friendly staff. Ideal if you’re cycling, walking or running along the canal.

This my second review of this place but this time there was 18 of us so I thought it deserved a special mention. My steak was amazing as good as any that I've had at expensive steak restaurants in Glasgow. Everything arrived in time, no long waits and everything was lovely. Our waitress Kimberley was fantastic. I can't wait to go back for another steak!

We've had lunch a number of times here and never been disappointed. The bar prices are very reasonable and the menu varied and child friendly. Toilets are well tended.

Went here late December with Jim my mate entered the pub and greeted by a friendly member of staff we ordered the special which was a 16oz steak with all the trimmings cost £25.00 best meal in a long time presentation was great couldn’t fault this place except the loos which is just important than the food Could do with more inspections during the busy nights but would I go bank oohhhh yessss

All food was delish... we reserved a booth - and thoroughly enjoyed our nights there. Simon is lovely, and Jodie a first-class server. Would totally recommend, however, would say you have to reserve a table to ensure you are seated, served quickly. X

Five of us went for dinner and didn't need to eat for several days after! A mixed sharing platter ( one between the five of us) was almost a meal on it's own leaving us wondering how we would cope with a main course. We had each chosen a different main and they were all very well cooked and hearty portions. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and can recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Went to this eating house/pub last night after a recommendation from my sister Loretta. I went with 2 old work colleagues from Woodilee Hospital. As soon as we arrived the welcome was great from the Manager Simon (I think was his name), We sat down and our food was at our table in no time. 2 Ribeye steaks and a steak pie (In an enamel dish which we thought was a nice touch. Our meals were fantastic and very tasty and plentiful. The waitresses were brilliant and very attentive and joined in our banter which was nice. The price for the 3 of us with wine was excellent. Would I recommend this place, "Definitely" and I cant wait to go back.

This pub has always been a reliable meeting point for many circles of friends and colleagues (food isn't great but it's handy for work or for meeting friends, and it's never busy) but I have to stop coming and all of my friends and everyone at work has to arrange to meet/eat elsewhere because they're supporting my boycott.

First class meal and service. Word to the wise try not to sit near the doors as the draught from them opening and closing can be chilly. Food prices are very competitive. Decor is very nice and the pictures of old Kirky on the walls are excellent.

Great newspaper review so gave it a go. The two guys serving were very professional and friendly. Food was made fresh and very good. Reading some of the poor reviews the comments were opposite to what we (4 of us) encountered. I am a wee bit suspicious of these reviews. Please give this place a try it's well worth it. We did lunch would love to try dinner as the cocktails looked great. Thanks again for a nice pleasant lunch. We are not local wished we had a place like this near us!
