Using a retirement voucher and had an early evening dinner. Decor lovely, staff very pleasant. Pity the food doesn’t match. Couldn’t eat the batter on the butter chicken as it was brick hard, onion rings hard , chips tasteless and again overcooked. Steak pie - top layer of steak was burnt and inedible. Starter bread was tasty. Took far too long to be served despite being almost empty. We mentioned to the waitress about our food and we were only charged for drinks and bread. Whilst this is a great gesture, our evening was ruined. Not be back any time soon. Such a shame as it has the potential to be excellent.

We’ve been at the restaurant a couple of times before and had no issues. The food is generally great and the service exemplary, however on this occasion we felt a little let down. My wife celebrated her 60th birthday and we had a family meal at the hotel. As ever, we cannot fault the food it was delicious and portion size remains good. Sadly this time we felt let down by the staff on duty. Everything was just at a slower pace, there seemed to be no urgency to anything but 10 mins to bring desert menus was a bit much, never mind coming back to get our orders. Well come back, but would hope staff showed more spirit

Firstly the restaurant is lovely and bright and well laid out. They menu has plenty on it and the lunch menu is a good deal. However that is where the good stops. We waited at the sign to be seated, staff were talking at the bar and after 10 minutes we just had to go up and ask to be seated. The menu is pricey and the bread that came with the prawn cocktail was stale. The buttermilk chicken that came with the salad was rock hard and not that warm. We ordered 2 sets of drinks and both times had to ask where they were. Finally, it's February and the doors were wide open so the place was freezing. There seemed to be plenty of staff but they are just lacking attentiveness and given the price I would expect better.

On arrival we tried to charge our Electric Car via the chargers onsite but couldn't get close enough to the charger to use it because of the 100mm bump stops. Food was terrible and the service was incredibly slow despite it not being busy. The servers were not very pleasant. Both my husband & I ordered the same Chicken, Haggis & Broccoli with Peppercorn Sauce. The Chicken was bone dry, and the Haggis was greasy and chewy. The Broccoli was so overcooked that you could not cut through it as it was rubbery. The peppercorn sauce was runny and tasteless. We both didn't eat our meals as they were both inedible. Complained to the server when we asked for the bill, who said she would pass it on her Manager. Went to the bar to pay and mentioned to the the chap behind the bar about our meal. He called over the Manager who advised us that the server had not passed on our comment. She apologised profusely and promptly removed the Main Course charges from our bill. Overall not a good experience, so needless to say we won't be back..

The spa and hotel room was fine and modern, the staff attentive and friendly. However as someone who regularly stays in hotels the food in both the spa and restaurant was very poor in quality, and in fact I have tasted better produce at a Wetherspoons at a 1/3 of the price. My wine also smelled off. Moral of story if you have expectations of a certain level of food as akin to a luxury spa then this is most probably not the place for you, if a modern facility with friendly staff next to nice golf courses is your main aim. Visit.

Lonmvely surroundings, starters were cold. Main course was mediocre, deep fried fish in bater was not crispy, pork was overcooked. I was happy to accept all of this but when I ordered a bottle of wine and it was plonked down on my table, I was applaud . I assumed it was serve yourself night, I had to open it and serve myself . Is this the service I should expect at oast? Never have I been thrown a bottle of wine and expected to pay for it, disgraceful, I thought I was in Faulty Towers! I complement you on your waitress staff who are totally superb. Its sad that the management and kitchen staff fall short of providing a good service.

We ate here late last month at the end of a day of celebration, my in laws 60th wedding anniversary our 34th. The Coast Restaurant didn’t let us down. We’d eaten in another part of the resort a few years back so looked forward to this. The coast is casual, open, bright, vibrant and fresh. It has a lovely ambience and some great staff, the Maitre D in particular, attentive and good humoured. The food is spectacular, every dish we were served was excellent and of good portion size. It was also very good value for money. I can’t recommend the Coast Restaurant enough.

My husband and I went in for a meal today (19/8/23) with my birthday gift card and we were shocked to see a Saturday early evening being so quiet. We got a 2 course meal and both had the leek and potato soup which was like a child’s portion size and was liquidised down so much, although it tasted ok it was nothing like leek and potato! My husbands main was fish and chips and the chips were like the super cheap big bags of small oven chips that you get in the cheap isle of supermarkets! Completely tasteless, he said the fish was ok but the star of the show was my arrabbiata pasta which was so overcooked it was a joke! Like you would cook pasta for a baby food! The peppers and onions in the pasta on the other hand were inedible and half cooked! Honestly the worst meal we have had in a long time! The manager took the pasta dish off the bill but c’mon Gailes! do better for the prices your charging! We will not be back here again!

Awful! Would try not to return. Been to 3 funerals there in the past 6 months. Sandwiches were like doorsteps with very little filling. Staff running about like headless chickens trying to serve tea & coffee without knowing who has already been served and who still needs serving. Our table of 6 got half served and despite shouting out to staff, we were ignored and sat for an hour without tea or coffee. It was in the smaller room, so dread to imagine if they were serving in the larger room. Sorry, but couldn’t feel enthusiastic about eating anything.

My wife and I recently had a disappointing experience at the restaurant of The Gailes Hotel when we visited for breakfast, which compelled me to share our feedback. Although we have frequented this place for breakfast on numerous occasions before, this particular visit left much to be desired. Upon arrival, my party and I were promptly seated, but unfortunately, we were then seemingly forgotten about. What made this even more frustrating was the fact that the restaurant was practically empty at the time. We patiently waited for someone to take our order, but after a substantial 25 minutes passed, I had to flag down a staff member myself. Even when our breakfast finally arrived, the disappointment continued. Our drinks had been completely forgotten, and once again, I had to request them separately. For a restaurant of this caliber, and with a price tag of £29 for two breakfasts, I expected a more attentive and seamless service. The lack of attention to detail and the delay in service left me feeling underwhelmed and dissatisfied. While I have enjoyed positive experiences here in the past, more recent visits have been found wanting and this particular visit has undoubtedly tarnished my perception of the restaurant. I hope that The Gailes Hotel takes this feedback and makes improvements, as with service like this, my wife and I will find somewhere else.

Mostly positive, with a few reservations. We had requested a room upstairs overlooking the car park, but due a a wedding, our request was ignored and if we hadn't persisted, would have ended up on the opposite side as well. We had to settle for a ground floor room. It was a perfectly acceptable, clean room, but despite a noisy fan once either of us showered, the mirror remained steamed up for ages afterwards. Also it was quite difficult to turn the shower on with the fixed head shower and set up of the screen. We were on a deal for the night as my husband had stayed there for a golf break earlier in the year, which had an allowance for dinner. My sister in law joined us for the meal and she opted for the special starter of scallops and black pudding which unfortunately consisted of 3 tiny scallops and some not very pleasant black pudding. At £7 plus it was disappointing. However my husband and I picked off the a la carte and our choices were absolutely fine. We would definitely stay again if we are in the area and are unable to stay with family as we usually do.

I stayed at The Gailes for two nights to attend my sister’s wedding at the beginning of April. Overall the hotel is good but it’s the service that makes this place really special. The standard bedrooms in the hotel are just that – exactly what you would expect from a hotel. Nothing more, nothing less. The honeymoon suite is to die for, and is a great space to for the bridal party to get ready all together. It was also really nice that we could see guests arriving through the two-way mirror (although this didn’t do much to calm the nerves!)The food is great too. We ate in the restaurant the night before the wedding, and everyone was raving about the food. I also LOVE a cooked to order breakfast. But the jewel of The Gailes crown is the team working here and the service they provide. From the moment our party arrived, we received the best of service from everyone we met. The girls in Reception were fantastic, the restaurant team are one of the best I’ve ever come across and Karen, the wedding coordinator, is exceptional. We really felt that we were being looked after, nothing was too much trouble and it meant that we could all relax and just enjoy our time there.Thank you to the team for helping make my sister’s day so special.

My partner and I went for lunch here between Christmas and New Year. It was very busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. The rather abrupt waitress took our drinks order while we chose our food from the menu. A short time later another waitress came to take our food order. After our starter, as the main dishes arrived, I asked if our drinks were forgotten, the waitress replied that there was a back-log of hot drinks orders and that it wouldn't be much longer. When we had finished our main course the drinks finally arrived from another member of staff who explained that the machine had broken. The original waitress then returned with out sweets and apologised for the delay with our drinks as there had been a back-log of orders. I then wondered why both waitresses had said different things. Anyway, with the cracked stained crockery, unacceptable length of delay for a simple drinks order and the abrupt almost rude waitress, I will not return to The Gailes. Having run restaurants for many years, I know the problems that can occur due to unexpected busy periods, however I feel that there was too much in my one and only visit that went wrong here.

Asked waitress about our cake replied in a very abrupt manner "it is on its way". By the time we got it we had drank our coffee. We decided to have another coffee a different waitress took our order. After sitting over 20 mins she returned to apologise that she forgot, very nice lady brought them instantly after that, told us we wouldn't pay for them as we waited. On paying our bill the 1st crabby waitress blonde hair mid forties infront of other dinners in a very loud tone " you had two coffee's didn't you" I explained that the other waitress had taken one off the bill due to waiting as she forgot. Her reply was "well who am I to question it" in a very sarcastic tone. Nice to find a sauce to accompany steaks was complimentary, I am very partial to lemon meringue pie and find the Gailes offering hard to beat. Minor point, I felt better ventilation might have limited cooking smells in the dining area. Look forward to dining here again.

We visited Gailes Restaurant for dinner on a Monday night. They were a few people in but not overly busy. We had to ask for menus and then ask for our order to be taken. Our chicken tempura starter was undercooked and still pink and our mushy peas to accompany the fish and chips were brown and should never have been sent out on a plate. The rest of the food was "ok"! We then had to go and ask for the bill after sitting for 15 minutes with an empty dessert plate. We would have had more drinks through out our meal and coffee if anyone could have been bothered to ask. Poor service and Poor Food.

We chose from the two course lunch menu. There is also a very large menu from which to choose - something for everyone. The melon starter was one of the best for melon I have had - a large portion with other fruit(strawberries and kiwi fruit) covered with a sweet ginger sauce - Delicious on a very hot day. The other starters were also large - pakora and chicken tempura and both received the thumbs up. The main course of fish and chips with mushy peas and salad was also very good- two pieces of fish and so many chips I could not finish it. Thai chicken curry also good. Coffee served with shortbread. Service was very good and quick. Most enjoyable.

The Gailes Hotel offers a beautiful tasty menu.Parking available, excellent customer service, amazing prawn cocktail to start with followed by perfect pasta and garlic bread, and beautiful sweets. I have a Simpsinn's loyalty card so used that when bill was being paid. A perfect meal for two!

I can honestly say that I have never had such a poor meal. . Long wait for food spring rolls looked good but were soggy and ok for a toddler. Main course of lasagne was terrible small greasy portion with bit of salad and one small piece of bread. Enough for a four year old and as it had no flavour I would not recognise it as lasagne if I was blindfolded. The sticky toffee puding was a joke small hard and uneatable. No one asked if it was ok they were rushed off their feet. This restaurant would be ok for really old people who had lost sense of taste and liked small portions. The salmon was the only thing ok size wise. I will never be back.

Returned after a couple of months and what a difference for the worse. Our grandson used to love the fish goujons but now it is fish and chips. What a joke. He got one piece of fish which was the size of one goujon. My wife went for the Gailes fish supper which was 2 pieces of fish the size of a goujon with about 5 chunky chips for about £12. What a rip-off. My grandson who is 7 asked his gran for a piece of her fish as he didn't have enough and she gave him it as anyone else would do. We complained to the manager about the portions and got a small discount but it has put us off going back to this restaurant. Certainly not worth the money they charge.

I booked a get away through itison for my boyfriend and I. This was a dbb deal which was a great price. As we had paid in advance we decided to order steaks for the mean which had a 12pound supplement each. We both asked for medium rare but they were both overcooked leathery tiny bits of meat. The staff were very friendly but didnt seem to care to much and we still paid the full supplement extra. We were also sitting in the bar later and a rowdy table were shouting and swearing. This wasnt addressed although it did seem to disturb some guests. We ended up taking drinks to our room.I would have mentioned the food further checking out but there was a wedding party leaving at the same time.I have since commented via facebook but had no response.

Went with a friend to celebrate her birthday, decided to have afternoon tea and add a glass of prossecco on as this was an option at extra cost. Presentation was lovely when it arrived and couldn't wait to get tucked in. Was a bit disappointed we didn't get offered a choice of sandwiches we got presented with ham and tomato and tuna which isn't to everyone's taste. The first mini scone I had was nice but when I went to cut the second it was like a brick and I couldn't eat it. The cakes looked lovely but in all fairness the Victoria sponge was dry and the other selections of cakes were not the best. I have gave a 3 because the service was good and the tea was presented lovely. I would not return again for afternoon tea and wouldn't recommend it unfortunately.

We took advantage of an Itison promotion which proved to be excellent value for money. The welcome at check in was warm and friendly and the room was well furnished and provided a good nights sleep. The only constructive criticism we would like to offer was the quality of the dining experience at dinner. When you are on a promotion you expect some restrictions on the menu offered. On this occasion, it was a totally separate menu from the main menu although many of the dishes were offered on both menus. I opted for the burger which turned out be be very basic topped with a small piece of bacon and served with 4 large chips. A customer on the adjacent table had a burger from the main menu which was served with all the trimmings you would expect and proper French fries. The cost difference to the hotel must be minimal and it seems penny pinching to differentiate the dishes from different menus. Rather than have separate menus management may wish to consider offering the same menu but with price supplements for certain dishes. Despite the dining experience we enjoyed the Gailes Hotel and will certainly return. Thanks to all the lovely staff.

Recently visited here for lunch with my boyfriend , we both had a starter and a main meal , food was tasty but a little pricey for the portion size , after half way through my meal I noticed a dirty mark on the inside of my glass ;( waitress offered to have a fresh drink brought over , after refusing they took it off our bill. Possibly return again !!!

We had a very enjoyable family weekend away at this hotel as a winter break.Very attentive check in staff, good sized family room, good food in the restaurant both nights (could have more vegetarian options) with a good kids menu (with non mass produced food).Walking and cycling distance to the beach.Lacking in scenery around and about but did not go there for the scenery. The customer service was second to none.

We tried this restaurant today as it had been recommended by a friend. The starters were good and so was dessert however the main course (roast beef) was appalling. The beef was as tough as old boots and the vegetables managed to be shrivelled and tough at the same time. When the waitress asked if everything was ok we let her know why we had left so much food. She came back to us to tell us the chef had tried to cut the beef (and realised it was tough) and sent his apologies. We then got the bill, which was over £70 for three lunches. We felt cheated. The least they could have done was offer a reduction. We will not be back. Part of this is our fault for being too polite as we should have sent the meals back untouched and left at that point.

Spent Hogmanay at the Gailes. Excellent welcome, comfy room and pleasant atmosphere. The dining room for the grand ball was set up beautifully, and the attention to detail was good. Met with champagne and canapés, then seated with very pleasant company. The five course meal was beautiful, although the main course (roast beef for myself) was a bit chewy and not particularly hot, we must have been towards the end of service. The band that entertained us was very good, great singing, and the disco that took us into the bells was also good, when he adjusted his music to suit the clientele. A dram and stovies at the bells was well received. All in all a memorable night, thank you Gailes and Simpsinns. How could it have been improved, already mentioned the beef, but there was no 'Old lang syne', how could you, in Scotland at new year!!!! A real disappointment

I booked this venue for Christmas Lunch (The Carvery £46.00pp) for my family and had been pleased by the reviews. Prior to booking I had requested information of the availability for those with celiac, as my aunt suffers from this. The hotel responded forthwith offering various options. The hotel looked lovely on arrival although the function room was bland and lacked Christmas spirit. Unfortunately on the day there was no choice of bread for my aunt (as stated) only a slice of toast! The selection of meats consisted of turkey and beef and the beef was tough!! The sprouts were like bullets and the chef had not provided gluten free gravy as promised, resulting in a very dry dinner for my aunt. On the plus side our waitress, Kirsten was very attentive!! To finish the meal we were offered a mince pie with our coffee but when I asked for an alternative for my aunt I was simply told there wasn't one. I think this poor in this day and age.

On the night before another busy day on business, I like to have a bit of a chill out. To me the Gailes gives diners the option of places to eat; bar area, family or quiet section, I guess I chose right with a good pre-Christmas family atmosphere. I ate off of the specials; which was a selection from the Christmas menu. The goats cheese starter was a touch mild but clean tasting and well presented; the featherblade on parsley mash was everything that a recent bouef bourgignon at Brasserie Blanc Leeds wasn't. Very well cooked throughout, pulled apart, moist and well flavoured with good tasting carrots and swede, slightly overcooked sprouts (for me) and some unnecessary roast potatoes. For a suggestion to the chef, cut the potatoes to the same size for even cooking. The service was good for me and clearly good for the wee soles on the next table wanting their garlic dips; difficult job but maybe have a bit more faith in the food. I liked it! But there was an element of an apolology as it got served.

We took our grandson to the Gailes for a treat and he really enjoyed it. He is 6 years old but eats well. The waitress was brilliant with him and kept him amused all night. He really enjoyed the kids main course and was over the moon with his sweet. We enjoyed our meal as well but seeing him so happy made our night.

Christmas lunch with friends was booked at this location. The service was good and the staff were reasonably attentive. The menu was fairly typical, but the presentation of the food was a bit disappointing. I had chosen the salmon dish, but couldn't taste the fish because of the other flavourings. However, it is a busy time of year and the atmosphere was convivial and we enjoyed our meal. Nevertheless, the dessert menu was uninspiring and those who chose Xmas pudding were aghast at the tiny portion they received. I ordered an apple and pear tart with shortbread and cinnamon crumble. When it arrived it looked like a pie with raw biscuit crumbs on top. It looked uninspiring and it tasted uninteresting. A disappointing end to the meal. The lady who asked for ice cream (which was not on the Xmas menu) got the best of the deal. Poor show.

Very disappointing. Busiest weekend in the Largs calendar and this poor pub/bar/restaurant was ill equipped to cope with the footfall. Been a couple of years since I have been in this facility, but very sad to see the demise of a lovely wee local. The place was filthy dirty, food would take over 1 hour and bar staff unable to manage queues at the bar. Hope the next time I visit this review will help them constructively to put the appropriate measure in place to restore the reputation of not just my opinion but the opinion of fellow customers.

We played two rounds at Lamlash on the weekend of 10th May and really enjoyed the experience. Relatively short course, but by no means easy and some tremendous scenery to view throughout. We were fortunate to have great weather as well. We were well looked after by Drew at the Starters Box on Friday and again by James when we played on Sunday. Sincere thanks to both gentlemen for looking after us. If we are back to Arran again for golf we will for sure play Lamlash. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Drinks one visit, delicious meal the next. Besides the great food and service on our visits, I lost my glasses there and didn't realise until I got home. Not only did the Ormidale staff find my glasses, they also took the time to phone and let me know and post them to me. Above and beyond. We would highly recommend The Ormidale for its service, atmosphere, food and after care of careless customers! Thank you.

Went in, and girls ran off their feet, and had a sausage supper, and a half standard/half special fish supper. Girls were lovely, and the food was outstanding. Best chippy in Largs by a mile. It's a bit chaotic, as all good traditional Italian chippys should be. Wouldn't go anywhere else. 5 star from us.
