Great view... I mean GREAT view. And that is what this restaurant trades on. Service to be seated was slow to the point of feeling ignored. Asked for water, none came and had to ask again. This is the sort of establishment I would expect water to be standard on the table. I asked for gluten free bread and got a slice of the cheapest more rubbish white bread. Asda do better loaves. Meal portion was small, served on a cold plate and with cold veggies. And it was expensive for what it was. And they added a 10% service charge (needless to say I didn't pay it). Menu says they are cash free. That is not the case, I paid cash.

The restaurant was also surprising. There is a nice bar and seating for dining. There is another bar for hikers on the other end which is nothing to brag about and they have different selections of beer and alcohol there. We were treated to magnificent views and plenty of deer grazing outside as we ate. The food and service were outstanding and we had no complaints.

Food was outstanding and a good selection on the menu for even the pickiest (me!) of eaters!Hubby had fish & chips and he said it was delicious. Batter was really light and not greasy at all. I had the chicken which was delicious. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert.... delicious!!! Now to the service...WOW brilliant!! We had Ashleigh look after us and she was the right level of attentiveness and very helpful. If you're staying at the hotel definitely book a table so you don't miss out

Stayed at hotel with husband and was blown away with restaurant views. Our server for the night was Ruslan and he made the experience even better he was a pleasure to deal with and nothing was too much trouble. I’m coeliac so eating out always makes me nervous but he was very reassuring and I felt confident when ordering food. The food itself was absolutely beautiful and the only down side is I was so full I couldn’t manage dessert but my husband did. Fantastic portions and great value for money, can’t fault anything at all.

For my husband's birthday in July, we were heading down through Scotland, and had planned to eat at the Kingshouse Hotel, a place where we went 10 years ago before we got married, and had been a wonderful place full of character and charm. We had tried to book online, but the website didn't seem to work, we tried several times without success, it didn't tell us it wasn't working, we couldn't book a time, and when we tried to call, it directed us to the website (which we'd already tried!). So we thought we'd try our luck and drop in to see if we could get a table. We were lucky as there were only a few people in the restaurant when we arrived. My husband, nine-year old daughter and myself were seated, and the host asked if there was any allergies, and I said dairy and we were sat down. On the menu we were given, there were no mains without dairy, but I thought I could maybe have the venison burger without cheese and slaw. I asked a waiter who was walking around, if that would be a possibility, and he thought so, but said he'd ask the kitchen. We didn't see him again. A female waitress came and took our drinks which took 15-20 minutes to arrive. When she brought the drinks, I asked if there was anything non-dairy, and she went and got a vegan menu that had two mains on it, neither which had meat (I'm not vegan, I've got an intolerance to dairy). It took her another 20 minutes and us waving her down to order our food - I went with the burger no cheese or slaw. It took approximately 30 minutes for the food to arrive (which isn't too bad), but my venison burger arrived, loaded with cheese and slaw. I pointed out to the man who delivered the food (from the kitchen) that I'd ordered without cheese or slaw, and he removed it and in less than five minutes there was a new burger in front of me. We waited for the bill, trying to wave someone down, and I left my husband to deal with it while I went off to the toilet with my daughter. When we returned to the table, my husband pointed out that hotel guests were being treated to bread, and that the waitress (who had been ours) had gone to one table three times to ask if things were okay while we were away from the table. I finally was able to get the bill, but then it took another 10 minutes for her to return with the machine. The service was incredibly slow, and I would have thought that they would have wanted to get us out as quickly as possible as we weren't staying at the hotel, and that we had a child who as time was getting on was getting less able to sit still. I wouldn't say the food was amazing, it was okay. Though the servers were pleasant, they weren't overly attentive, or didn't appreciate that we were paying the same amount for the food as the other guests. If they hadn't wanted to let people to enter the restaurant that weren't staying there, they should have said, we would have turned around and found another pub nearby. The character from the old Kingshouse Hotel is no longer there (other than the entrance on the east side), but the view remains - and I'm guessing that is what people are paying the high prices for. As I said, I'm sure you get stellar service if you're a hotel resident, but save your time (and money) if you're not.

This kind of deserves 5 star but it is very expensive. We stayed in the bunkhouse during the WHW but ate out at the restaurant and lounge. This was very nice, seats extremely comfy, food was very nice and service good for a busy restaurant. Beer choice good and atmosphere nice. Really pleasant experience, but just a bit pricey.

We all had a lovely experience, with the food tonight. Very well presented , but the service left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths. We ordered the venison, the duck and lamb the kids had pizza and chicken , pizzas weren't very nice. But the rest of the food was first class!! Our server didn't ring our wine for at least 20 mins after we ordered it, he didn't provide an ice bucket and plonked the bottle down!? Pardon the pun. The food arrived on time for that though , good experience but the service needs work .so 4 out of 5 we would give 5 but the service let it down sorry

Such a fantastic setting and we've had a nice lunch here previously but dinner (as residents) was disappointing. The lovely (if tiny) pieces of Loin of Venison were cooked beautifully with a nice jus. However - fondant potato was not as advertised. This should be layers of potato cooked in loads of butter and garlic, gorgeous but instead, was a piece of boiled potato cut into a cylinder shape - so disappointing! Given the main course was not cheap in price, this was also very poor value.I was going to complain but it's horrible spoiling a meal by doing this so we stayed quiet. My Raspberry Cranachan was so poor.A glass of overly whipped, almost solid cream with no trace of whisky soaked oats through it and two rasps perched on top.Another major disappointment. Sticky Toffee Pudding was fine. The quality of cooking just doesn't reflect the 4 star hotel experience - have they lost a good chef? Breakfast was ok...buffet cold options though hot breakfast pre-cooked in the kitchen and kept warm.We were down at 7.30am and the bacon was already very dry when served to us. I also wish these places in the midst of such grand scenery should not blare out awful Pop Musak at breakfast and dinner(or anytime!). Surely something a bit classier and also some Scottish music (Runrig too) would create a better atmosphere? You could be anywhere, some pub in the city and a city anywhere for that matter, with the quality of music blaring away.It detracts from the 4 star interior and the wonderful, wild setting.

We arrived late in the day and pulled in to the drive and saw a huge stag. After we had checked in we made reservations for a 7 pm meal. Our wait staff consisted of a young man named Ruslan who was so professional and kind. Our food was delicious and included fish and chips, a huge portion of haddock and fries. Another entree was chicken served with smashed potatoes and it was delicious as well. Sticky toffee pudding was a sweet ending but the real highlight of the meal was meeting Ruslan and sharing our mutual interests.

Good starters. Nearly every main course that was ordered was dry including the fish and venison. Absolutely not worth the prices. The langoustines for nearly 40 euros and were dry, tasted like nothing. Hours after eating one tail we felt sick. We received 3x the amount of wine ordered and had to pay the part. The replacement food was to come under 10 minutes but took 40 minutes. Nice interior and location, unfortunately restaurant underperformed all expectations.

Went there and the barman pointed to a menu to look at offering soup and pies!! I thanks !!! I also advised the girl at reception that one of the main toilets was dirty , she didn’t even bother to look at me and mumbled something about housekeeping . I only advised as a large party of tourists had arrived.. Hence save the hotel embarrassment!! Won’t set my foot back in it… used to be a really friendly place . After a very long walk on the West Highland Way, we had spent a lot of money for a nice Hotel, unfortunately the service in the restaurant was not what we expected, table booked for 8pm, finally sat us at 8.20, then we waited and waited some more, getting close to leaving the food arrived, which was nice but not a lot, we asked for the service charge to be deducted which they did, over all it is a high end Hotel being run by under paid young inexperienced staff.

Quite possibly the worst service I’ve ever gotten at a restaurant including fast food and truck stops. Our meal began with someone bringing water to our table that had multiple plates of butter. We then had to ask for bread to go with the butter and got something resembling standard white sandwich bread. Then after quite some time our waiter (or one of them) comes up and without introducing himself asks us if “we know what we want”. No introduction, no have you dined here before, etc. We then ate, and to be fair the food was pretty good. We then sat while multiple busboys came to take our plates away, two of whom dropped silverware, including one utensil on my arm, because they didn’t know how to properly stack plates and silverware. We then waited st an empty table for about 20 min. for our check. Most of our party gave up and went up to their (painfully middling) rooms. The check finally comes with a server dropping on the table and walking away without saying a word. I went to sign for the meal and I had no pen. I then went to the host stand, got one, and signed my bill. As I walked through the lobby a server literally ran up to me saying I couldn’t put the meal on my room because I hadn’t left a card at the desk. So then in the middle of the lobby I swiped my credit card and signed the check. It’s not like they didn’t know where to find me! We were booked for another two nights. Even my very even tempered father-in-law was angry. I asked the waiter who had chased me down if he had ever eaten at a restaurant (and I was serious). Comically bad except that it ruined my night. We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel for the remainder of our stay.

The location is fantastic.however the attitude of some of the staff in the bar/lounge area could do with some improvment. My son arrived just before us and asked for table for 8. He was told nothing was available, despite the place being half full at most. I arrived 5 mins later and asked and suddenly there was a table . The younger staff were friendly..but senior staff were not so friendly. We drove up especially from Glasgow to show our family this place , but the experience was dampened significantly by the attitude we encountered there..Very disappointing for such a wonderful location . As it turns out , this was our second visit. We did a similar trip in April and the same service/attitude was also displayed. Wont be back ...pity. Food was OK, but pricey for what it was.

Attached to the Kingshouse Hotel, this is a convenient restaurant with ample indoor and outdoor seating. In the winter, they have plastic globes with heaters inside for those wishing to dine outside. Firstly the location of the Kinghouse Hotel is stunning. It’s a unique place and well worth the stop - 360 degrees of amazing landscape all around. It was beautifully sunny when we visited, but I bet it’s amazing whatever the weather - fine or foreboding. It’s also very smart inside. As we had a dog with us, we ate in the ‘bar’ area of the hotel - it’s a large and airy room with large panoramic windows. We ordered to start - breaded haggis balls (these were sadly sat in a large bowl of mustard mayonnaise), soup (good) and ham terrine (also good). For mains we had the venison burger, the venison pie and the mushroom risotto. Burger and pie were both good. However we have never seen a pink risotto before. It seemed to have been made like a rice pudding (and tasted a bit like one unfortunately) with oily mushrooms placed on top. Service was fine and we had teas and coffees outside. It’s a bit pricey for a bar style lunch but as it’s a hotel with an amazing location (also on the West Highland Way route so gets a fair few walkers) it has a steady and grateful customer base.

I was filled with great excitement at the thought of dining in one of the most stunning locations in Scotland, as a well earned break from the West Highland Way. A crescendo of disappointment unfolded as we sat down for our silver service meal. The clearly unpractised waiting staff made faces and rolled their eyes on a couple occasions; when we asked for tap water as oppose to bottled water and when we asked for the soup accompanying bread that had not made it to the table. The spiral of disappointment was exacerbated when the staff seemed to avoid our table and proceeded to clear and clean all of the other tables in the restaurant before finally tending to ours and brining the bill some 30 minutes later. The crescendo was tippified by the waiter impatiently demanding our payment option whilst we passed the plates to the end of the table. I would feel sympathy for the chefs, who produced a decent meal. But the sympathy quickly dissipated when we realised they were receiving a healthy portion of tips from the (somewhat veiled) 10% service charge that was added to all bills; yes even the drinks at the bar. Please do enjoy the view at this beautiful location, but do not burden yourself with the disappointment this restaurant has to offer.

Sadly I was only there for lunch, but I would love to come back and stay.We were seated in the window at the restaurant so had a perfect view of the deer outside.I ordered steak which was nice, but not as tasty as I'd hoped, but the amazing views definitely made up for it.I can't wait to visit again

The hotel itself is a great place for a stay but the restaurant lacks any sort of coherent organisation and lacks basic staff protocols. Examples are: 1. Menu says to ask server about any dish on the menu. When we did this, the gentleman in question said “I am not sure” then went on to say “it comes with something”. He then just stood over us with no offer to find out. 2. Lack of table checks means no issue with meal is picked up unless the customer directly brings it up.3. Breakfast quality varies from overcooked haggis, bacon and tattie scone one day to an well cooked breakfast the next day.4. Covid restrictions apply so the menu is very limited unless you like seafood, game or offal. This left my wife and I struggling and despite asking the same gentleman server, no alternatives of any kind were offered.5. A booking service operates for breakfast, again because of Covid but when we arrived at our allotted time, we were told there would be a delay as no food ready. All in all, a memorable stay at the hotel with great reception and bar service marred by the chaos in the restaurant

Stayed here for one night while walking West Highland Way,. Great views from window seat in the bar dining area. I ate venison pie (appropriate with deer walking past the windows) and my wife ate beer battered haddock and chips. Food was good but not exceptional.

Was recommended by family to visit to see the views, tame deer and food. I wasn’t disappointed. It’s well signposted and plenty of parking on site which the deer roam through. When collecting my bag from the boot one of the deer came sauntering over to me, no doubt thinking I had some food, it was so surreal but amazing. I was booked in for lunch and had fish and chips with mushy peas which was absolutely delicious. The restaurant was spotless and the servers were so friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to come again.

We stayed here for three days. The hotel is lovely. What lets it down is the restaurant . The breakfast service every day was chaotic, no leadership. No staff looking after a section so lots of running around like headless chickens . Our cooked breakfast was lukewarm. We waited ages from being seated to getting tea and toast and cereal. We had tea splashed onto the table by a waitress who had to be asked for a serviette to clean it up, Shambolic. The evening menu is limited especially if you do not eat game. Prices are high for what you get. The Langoustines were lovely but they came with nothing but a salad garnish, no bread, no fries - for £30 each. Service is automatically added at 10% .I would stay at the hotel again but would not eat at the restaurant.

7 years ago this pub was just on its own and served the best pie ever!!!!! This time when we went back its huge with lots of new lodges and bunkhouses which I get because they are based on the the west Highland way so why not make it walker friendly. We stopped for a coffee and had a walk. Our main reason though was to see the deer come out and they did along with a stag!!! There was also a wedding taking place which was lovely to see.

My husband & I stopped off here today for lunch on our way home from Fort William. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with lovely big smiles & friendly staff. I ordered the cheese & toast & salt & pepper sweet potatoe fries & my hubby ordered the venison burger. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Everything was so tasty. I actually couldn't finish my cheese on toast because I was stuffed but ate as much as I could because it was so tasty. The service was fantastic from all the staff, especially the young, petite Mediterranean looking waitress who was so lovely, helpful & friendly. The decor is beautiful. Very fresh, bright & clean & location is amazing. Great Covid measures put in place & all staff wore their masks & were cleaning as soon as a table left. Totally recommend & will definitely be back.

Very rainy day with pluvious reception for lunch We were a party of 4 girls who arrived rather wet for lunch. “Muddy boots and outdoor gear welcome” on WHW website - must have referred to another establishment Food and waitress service exemplary but front of house and customer service demeaning and needs addressing

My partner and I headed along for dinner and drinks with some friends. Upon arriving we got a slightly frosty welcome but were seated at near the window along from the bar with our dog. The waitress came along and took our drinks order which came pretty quickly. Staff came by regularly to check if we were ready to order. In the end we ordered oysters, deep fried Camembert, Mac & Cheese, Venison burger, Chicken burger and haggis hot dog. The oysters were phenomenal and I would highly recommend. The main courses were all really good but I would not recommend the Camembert as you only get 2 small pieces that are smaller than the size of a chicken nugget. Food came very quickly and staff were there to make sure we had everything. Overall, we had an amazing time with good food. We found that from about 8pm, staff numbers declined and it was really hard to get hold of anyone to get anything that we needed. The waitress that served us (young, blonde, I think her name was Lauren) was absolutely fantastic and is a credit to to your team! The views are stunning and it has a great atmosphere. I would certainly come back and recommend to a friend.

Had a fantastic meal at the kingshouse tonight. Food was phenomenal and perfect after a day of walking the West Highland Way.Tonight we had Ryan as a waiter and he was very professional and happy to help. We wanted to split the bill and he went above and beyond by giving us separate bills.

Stopped off for a bite to eat and ordered a Mac n Cheese with fries, A burger and fries and 2 teas... £43.81! I wouldn't mind the price if the food was exceptional but it was far from it.I expected at £16.50 to be given a proper homemade gourmet burger but it was worse than what you would expect from a snack van. Presentation didn't look great to start with but the taste was a lot worse. The food was served very quickly and it was obvious why - burger was hard on the outside and mushy inside...it clearly had been pre-cooked a long time before and I guess stuck in the microwave to re-heat. I rarely send food back but had to be done, I just couldn't eat it. They replaced it with a fresh-cooked burger but even then it was nowhere near the quality of what you would expect, I'd still put it alongside a snack van standard at best. The Mac n Cheese was disappointing too, also felt like it was heated in the microwave. There's no excuse for serving food like this at any time but it was a near empty restaurant. The final sting in the tail was the automatically added 10% gratuity to the bill...seriously! Why? This hotel/restaurant is in an amazing location, it looks great, the staff were friendly but the food is just a complete rip-off. Feels like they expect a lot of one-off customers so don't really care about what they are serving.

It was a relief to get to Kings house after a 19 mile walk, and I wasn’t disappointed. A warm welcome, very spacious and comfortable room and good food. Fairly limiteddinner menu but fresh fish and chips were really excellent. Good breakfast and excellent hygiene and social distancing in place. I would love to stay again.

Beer was cold and the food and service were very good, great view down the valley, would be cosy in winter.Only feedback would be the the amount of PPE the staff were wearing, seemed a bit of overkill to me for plastic aprons, visors and masks.Would return.

Second visit since the renovation and once again it did not disappoint. Incredible location, great facilities. Excellent food, generous portions, good range of choices. Friendly, relaxed but attentive staff and appropriate prices. Clear and well managed COVID safety measures too.

Booked 2 weeks in advance as very busy time of year. Upon arrival placed in the bar not in the restaurant (Despite our booking), not ideal, but not terrible. Service very poor. We waited almost 30 minutes before even being presented with a drinks menu. When the food arrived, admittedly not too long, orders were wrong and the food dreadful. Fish and chips was particularly tasteless. Ordered ‘fresh’ orange juice as driving. Watered down nonsense. Overall a very bad choice. Strongly avoid.

Disappointed with the whole experience in the restaurant. Really bland food with no seasoning and no salt/ pepper on tables. We didn’t get to order drinks for at least 30 minutes after sitting down and the orders themselves were wrong. This was not the fault of the staff who were obviously very busy and very apologetic but given the prices we were expecting a better experience and well cooked and seasoned food. One of the staff members was coughing, under a mask, but still very disconcerting for customers given the current pandemic.

A family visit (2 Adults & 2 teenage young men) to take advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme.A thoroughly enjoyable evening with attentive staff and great food. The venison pie & red cabbage was a real treat for the lady in the group whilst the lads enjoyed the Ribeye & Venison Burger. My pork belly burger was very nice too.All in all highly recommended.

After a long day climbing we were warmly welcomed by the Kingshouse hotel at the end of Glencoe valley.Covid control was good and staff made us so welcome. It’s been 30 yrs since I was last at the Kingshouse and the atmosphere is relaxing & changed but the heart of catering for walkers is still there. Absolutely loved it.

I must point out that I visited very soon after reopening due to Covid so may not reflect the normal. The restaurant had a very limited option Mostly bar type food Mac'n cheese Hot dog and no fewer than 5 different hamburgers fish and chips only a steak or langoustines of restaurant standard. I think they could have done better than that.

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
