All of our dishes were delicious. The grilled sea bass was excellent.

If you are Asian, it is recommended not to enter because they will not serve you and will ignore your existence!

Stopped for food and it was excellent very friendly staff and great service lots to choose from on their menu highly recommended 👌

Great find! The best Haggis neeps and tatties I ate while in the Highlands. Also a wide selection of whisky and local beer. The staff were friendly and helpful.

What a fantastic pub!! Staff were working all out as it was SO busy! ( the Bothy down the road closed early) they squeezed lots of extra people in and made sure we all got a good meal. The venison burger was superb!! I hope the owner realises what dedicated staff they have!

Good food ... very busy. Due to how busy it was, this showed in the dip in quality of service as well as dimming the atmosphere.

We ate a good sandwich and drank a good beer

The Lock Inn in Fort Augustus is a lovely spot for local food with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We had the fish and chips for dinner and it was absolutely delicious – fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavour. A charming place to stop by if you’re in the area – highly recommended!

A fantastic experience, loved watching the loch's fill, boats travel through. We had the best pie, nice lager and atmosphere.

As an Italian, expectations were very low but I must say that my experience was more than positive! I had the salmon as an appetizer, I have never eaten better salmon in my life! As a first course I took the meat pie and here too I was amazed by the softness of the meat and the taste! My partner on the other hand had a very good hamburger too! I accompanied everything with a Guinness and finally drank some good local whisky. Excellent experience in a beautiful place! Compliments to the chef and the staff.

Ordered fish and chips. We found the batter too oily, but the fish itself was soft and fresh. It was also costly, but it was understandable because of the location. The fries tasted frozen.

Great food and saltiare larger was great... Can sit out and watch the boats on the lock with a pint. If it looks busy aways check upstairs more tables there for food.

Busy pub, good quality home cooked meals just what we needed after a day of hiking. Fast efficient service. Dined upstairs which was less cosy than the main bar.

The salad with the goat cheese was SOOOO good. The fish and chips were solid as well. The steak pie was not our favorite the meat was tough and dry. Service was quick and friendly.

Right in front of the locks. We ordered two soups (it was more of a carrot and potato puree, but very tasty) and the Salmon Crumpet, as well as a pint and a half pint. We paid £34.45.

19 of us upstairs booked in advance .9 children and 10 adults. Menu catered for all .Food came quickly and was fresh and well presented . Excellent ambience and no time restraint . Prices reasonable . We were delighted with this unpretentious venue that could cater so well for us .

Best fish and chips I’ve had in a pub for years. Deliciously fresh haddock fillet the size of a small whale in a lovely crisp batter.

We visited here on 29th March after enjoying a boat trip on Loch Ness and a look around the wonderful shops. Before sitting down and looking at a great menu and the specials on the board. I chose the vegan curry and I have to admit it's the best curry I have ever had my cousin's all enjoyed their food too. I really can't recommend this place enough even if your not vegan order the curry you won't be disappointed. Staff were so friendly and the pub had such a cosy and homely vibe.

He caught us on the way and we stopped to eat. The two dishes we ordered were exquisite. Haddock and Steak Pie, great flavor and complete. Excellent quality-price ratio. As usual in the area, very good treatment, everyone very friendly.

Such a cute little pub tucked away in the middle of port Augustus. The staff were so kind. When you walk in the menu is in the back wall, you order at the bar and they bring your food. Very fast service. We ordered the battered haddock with chips and the soup of the day which was mushroom. It was absolutely delicious. The battered fish was so light. The soup was incredible. It was a mushroom soup with black pepper. Will be back here next time I’m in Scotland.

Situated on canal side. Friendly and welcoming staff. Cosy atmosphere inside the downstairs bar area. There is an additional modern dining area upstairs with windows which look down onto the canal. You can also sit outside, to have your drinks and food. Food for outdoor dining is provided in takeaway boxes and plastic cups for the drinks. Menu choices are the good old Scottish staples, such as haddock, steak pie, burgers. Generous and tasty portion sizes though and found their prices reasonable when compared to others. We enjoyed delicious Mac & Cheese and Steak Pie, which was served to us very quickly.

It doesnt look like much, but appearances can be deceiving. While the inside is small, the staff is friendly and accommodating, to the point of entertaining some silly Americans who were waiting for a table. Comfy and cozy would be a great description. The food was excellent. There was even a small piece of home for us above he bar.

The food was great but I ordered an IPA and it was warm and flat. I mentioned it to the young, female bartender and she told me that’s how IPA’s are served. I asked for a different beer and was told I would need to pay for it.

Had steak pie and the wife had macaroni both were lovely and the staff were nice very pleasant experience 😁

The food was inedible. In my opinion, the restaurant is poorly run. Mass tourism comes and goes, so quality isn't a concern—at least, that's how it seemed. I wouldn't recommend it.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't very good. We had fish and chips, which were made with very old oil and therefore tasted almost inedible. Atmosphere was also rather cool.

Expensive, especially the dessert, but pretty decent food. Fish and chips looked great.

We have just had a wonderful week in fort Augustus . I had previously read reviews on local pubs and restaurants . On reading the previous reviews I was very apprehensive on finding a good place to eat . How wrong reviews can be , we had consistently delicious food at The Lock Inn and the hospitality was amazing too , 10/10 will definitely be back

It’s a good place to eat. The food is delicious, service is fast, and the prices are reasonable. However, the coffee is quite average. One area for improvement would be informing customers that they need to order at the counter, as the staff simply point to the menu on the board. They also don’t seem very enthusiastic about their work.

Lovely little pub just next to the Loch. We arrived quite late and were happily surprised the kitchen was still open. Food was outstanding and drinks choices were plentiful! We shared haggis to start, then I had the venison pie and chips, whilst my partner had the Mac and Cheese. Everything was cooked perfectly, the haggis is a must try, especially with the wholegrain mustard sauce on!!

Small pub but what it lacks in space it more than makes up for in food, atmosphere and great staff. It’s dog friendly too. We had burgers and fish and chips and drinks and it was the average price of the pubs around that area. Highly recommend it while you’re in Fort Augustus.

Friendly staff and atmosphere. Very expensive, average food. £16.50 for small supermarket burger in a bun with a tiny amount of “homemade sauce” For that price I’d expect a proper homemade burger. Seems there are not too many options in Fort Augustus, so the bar snd cafes just rip the tourists off charging a fortune for mediocre food. Come on Scotland you can do better than this.

Stopped here after a day driving round Loch Ness for a late lunch, was busy but we got a table after a short wait. Food was great, just what we wanted from a pub lunch.

Stopped in for lunch and it was very efficient service, friendly staff and delicious food! Could not fault it if I tried! Thank you very much to the staff and chefs 😊

Beef burger was pretty abysmal, but other items looks pretty legit. Probably just a bad menu itrm. Other food did look good and taste good according to friends. Friendly atmosphere, had some fiddlers playing.

Great experience. Big group of Scottish musicians in when we arrived and a brilliant atmosphere. We were with kids and it was packed. I would have loved to sit downstairs and soaked it all in over a few beers. We ended up eating upstairs.Food was good quality. Ordered my son a plain burger but it wrongly came with their sauce. However no issue when we raised and immediately replaced (including chips he had already ate). Staff really friendly. Overall a really good customer experience.

I was on a day tour to highland from Glasgow and super hungry by the time we arrived this place.Luckily,I managed to grab a table and the food came quickly. Their food is delicious although staffs are quite busy that time with crowds of tourists.

The ladies inside tell us that the store was closed, the time was 19:30 and the google says that the store closed at 21:00

On Google it says that it's open until 21:00. We went on 19:30 and they were already closed. Hope there was a rate for zero stars.

It's really hard to go wrong with a nice hearty pub meal! Their fish and chips were good and beer on tap? Yeah...don't need to twist my rubber arm anymore!

Warm and welcoming, nice food and reasonably priced. I thought this was a great find in a very touristy area. My son loved the chicken tikka masala!

“The Lock Inn” in Fort Augustus is located directly on the lock system - an impressive staircase of locks (Neptune’s Staircase) of the Caledonian Canal. It is a small bar that also serves food. The furnishings are rather simple and rustic. The prices are a bit more expensive and the food is more for small appetites.

Tricked by good reviews. Overpriced, big portions but extremely bland. Sticky tables, dirty glasses.. I dont understand why the reviews are that good. And whilst the food satisfies the hunger, its certainly far from good price to value ratio.

Stopped for lunch. The soup was ok, but seemed to be Heinz Lentil or similar. Bar staff were eating at the bar, licking their fingers and then serving customers without washing their hands. It made us wonder if they'd done similar before bringing us our soup. Quite off-putting.

This place being one of the only ones open in November, not much choice.... 2 decent burgers, 1 portion of cheddar fries and 2 beers for £51, it's really excessive! The waitress seems exasperated to be stuck in this place at such a late hour (5:30 p.m.!) and makes it obvious. In short, a just ok place to eat before returning to your B&B.

Good restaurant. Good service. We took any place. The girls who worked there were very nice. We tried the soup of the day and the sweet potato curry. The food was prepared very quickly. I recommend it.

We were recommended by the hotel but it was not successful. The Caesar salad with cold chicken, romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese and plenty of sauce, too much for my taste. The venison pie could be improved and the vegetables and potatoes for filling

The food was delicious. However the place was very cold and when I said it to a member of staff she agreed, the fire hadn’t been cleaned from the night before, ashes all over the hearth, such a shame, the place could be so cosy but the girls were just sitting about between serving, not really interested.

Was gonna eat here but prices have gone up quite a bit and looking at some the food being served, we choose not to eat. Had a couple of drinks, all good, service OK, but very transactional.

I concur with other reviewers who find this place dreadful. The premises would never pass a sanitary inspection: the fabric on the seats --- if fabric it was -- was stained and filthy; the tables were strangers to a sponge. The tiny burger I had was the worst I've eaten since I left home in 1960 (mother was not a good cook). The patty was cooked to within an inch of its life. A morsel of pickle and a dab of cheese added some life. The chips weren't bad (chips are hard to ruin, but I'm sure they're trying). Service was perfunctory; "Here's your burger. Here's your sauces (in packets impossible to open).. All this at a ridiculously high price. A shame Fort Augustus can't offer good places to eat.

I have nothing to say about the dish I ate, it was good and well composed also in terms of flavours, the main problem is the service.

A real shame, it has potential but the service was abysmal and the food was somehow worse. I had low expectations being a rural pub but this one was arguably the worst I've experienced in Scotland.

They have now taken to reserving tables downstairs in the pub, they have an upstairs restaurant, in my opinion this is where the reservations should be, not the pub it used to be

Came in one night for a drink, and we sat outside on the canal, and it was amazing. We then popped in for food and had the haggis starter, venison pie and burger and shared a sticky toffee pudding. Amazing food and really friendly service

Highly recommend the fish and chips. Beyond that I can’t say a whole lot but you won’t be disappointed in the fish or the chips. Chips were crispy outside and nice and soft on the inside
