Great restaurant Didn't stay in the hotel, dropped in for a meal on a Monday evening. Good buzz about the place, friendly welcome, great guest beer, wide choice on menu, food well prepared and presented, attentive (but not over attentive) service - and bonus points for being very friendly to the families who were there.

Perfect location for walking Inverness. Really nice rooms with spacious bathrooms and comfortable beds!

I had an amazing stay. And that is all because of amazing people that work there. Also the hotel is super clean and cozy.

We traveled to Inverness for a few days in Feb/Mar 2025 and found Blackfrairs through Capital One Travel. Graham and the lovely staff were extremely courteous and pleasant hosts. We were exhausted after a poor night’s rest on the Caledonian (No) Sleeper train. Graham ensured that we were able to get into our room more quickly so we could catch up on much needed rest. The room itself was cozy, albeit a bit creaky, although to us that is part of the experience we were looking for. We had a great nights sleep each night we stayed, and there were some tasty complimentary snacks and water in the room. The food was excellent as well. The Espresso Martini and the Steak & Ale pie stood out as highlights of our stay. The location is convenient walking distance to the train/bus station and near many bars/shops. We highly, highly recommend staying and/or eating at Blackfrairs.

First time in Blackfriars for dinner and definitely the last We started to order mussels and were told they were off We then ordered pate and 5mins later we were told there was no pate so we then ordered garlic bread which was actually good. Although the restaurant was almost empty we waited over 45 mins for our main courses. I ordered the 10 oz gammon steak and when it arrived I was told sorry we have no pineapple. The steak was no bigger than the palm of my hand probably 5 oz max. It was way over cooked so much so that I struggled to cut it and chewing it was almost impossible My wife ordered the steak sandwich which should have been with toasted chunky bread and onion relish The steak which for some reason was coated in a BBQ sauce (not mentioned on menu) and instead of toasted bread was stuffed inside a pita bread. Completely different to the menu and to make it worse it was stone cold. We asked to speak to the manager but was told there was no manager on tonight we when asked who was in charge and the waitress said she didn't know It was obvious no one wanted to talk to us about our complaint We were offered other meals but in view of the time it took to get the first ones we decided to finish our drinks and leave. When paying for our drinks the waitress's only comment was it's not our fault we don't cook the food At no time was an apology given.

I am so very happy to be here! After a nightmare stay in an Edinburgh hotel I arrived to a warm welcome and wonderful people! I am in the castle room and it is so warm, well appointed and cozy, I am thrilled. The bed is so comfortable and the pillows are just right. The place is so very clean and comfortable,I want for nothing. The food is amazingly deliscous the beef and ale stew was just like my grand mothers and the bar offering are all you could want. Gram, the owner and the young women who work with him are special and more than happy to help in any way they can. I can not say enough about the Blackfriars Inn. Please look no further....this should be your home while in Inverness. Cheers, a little slice of heaven!!!

My wife and I had a one night stay last year, can’t remember the exact day, we found it to be very comfortable and enjoyed our stay! The only down side was we couldn’t get our breakfast which we had paid for because of lack of staff but we did get a refund! The only thing that I would say is that the price we paid for our visit was value for money hence the rating but if I had paid £400 the rating would be much lower. Definitely not worth £400 per night sorry!

Fabulous hotel and pub in a perfect location just a few minutes walk from everything Inverness has to offer. Warm, clean and comfortable with a delicious breakfast. Staff were extremely efficient and friendly, with lots of helpful tips on where to go and what to do. Excellent choice of ales and exceptional service. Lunchtime and evening meals were extremely tasty too. Will definitely stay again if we visit Inverness in the future.

Saw an excellent band Old Fools...amazing 2 piece band in a brilliant location with excellent food value and service...can't fault it...Outstanding!!!!

Truly a wonderful experience! We arrived on New Year’s Day and were greeted immediately and our room was ready shortly after arrival! The stay was lovely and the room had an assortment of wonderful snacks!

Restaurant: While we had a great welcome from the staff, the food had much to be desired. It had the taste of being both old and recently defrosted. Additionally our food took some time to arrive despite being the only two people to order at the time.

We just visited the restaurant. The meal was very good the owner was very nice and the chef in the kitchen prepared a perfekt meal after 9 pm. I will come back.

Mixed experience in this hotel, the rooms were nice, but we had to put in two additional heaters because the rooms were not heated at all. So we were still a little cold at the beginning. Despite everything, the small electric heaters did their job, the breakfast was very good and plentiful. For this we recommend the hotel. We did not have the opportunity to eat in the Restaurant just breakfast.

Fantastic stay; love the clawfoot tub! Also the sticky toffee pudding is some of the best we have ever had! Must stay and eat here!

What can I say fish cakes were still frozen in the middle, staff were friendly & refunded the meal without question & apologised! AVOID if they can’t cook frozen fish cakes god help them!

My husband and I went for dinner …..I ordered the 10oz gammon steak with pineapple……just terrible …..gammon steak was a large piece of bacon and there was no pineapple and almost all chips …….very expensive for basically chips …… the staff were fine ……. I did tell them and was offered no compensation…….very disappointed

We loved it here. Our arrival was delayed 12 hours and we checked in right before 10 pm. A band was packing up so it looked like we missed a good time. I thought the staff said breakfast began at 7 am (it’s doesn’t) so when I came down, Graham graciously welcomed my early arrival. I told him the shower revived me from our travel bumps and he told me the water in Scotland is superb. (It is!) When my sister joined us, he had the kitchen make us porridge for our excursion to Isle of Skye. We nearly missed our bus but the porridge was worth it. Our room was just what we needed. Comfortable, private and accommodating. (I still miss that shower). But the staff I encountered were the highlight. The property is convenient to the train station and other places of interest. The onsite dining is wonderfully convenient. I wish we had the time we designated for Inverness; I must come back.

We were in twice just for coffee. Very atmospheric. All recycled furnishings. Friendly staff and loved the toilets.

Went in for a meal tonight after a hard days work in Inverness. I ordered a starter and main course. I received a very small and meagre portion of Haggis, neeps & tatties, it was more like tatties neeps with a wee bit haggis in top, very poor I thought. That was followed by fish and chips, which should have been described as chips with a little bit of fish, again very disappointing as the fish was quite small by appearance and once I started to cut into it, the fish inside the batter was so much smaller than it appeared. The waitress didn’t charge me for my starter, which I explained to her I wasn’t looking for a discount on my meal, I was more like expressing my disappointment with my meal. Very poor attempt at Scottish hospitality in my opinion.

I loved my stay here! The staff was wonderful and the room was very clean and comfortable. The food was great. I really enjoyed meeting the locals in the pub. I highly recommend staying here when you visit Inverness!

Rooms ok Bathroom not the cleanest and they seem to like to take the extra money for a cooked breakfast then just before they shut for the evening they tell you they're having the kitchen cleaned and can't actually provide it but they don't even tell the staff working the next morning.......... Not the greatest service or what I expect from an establishment charging £165 per night

Truly the best experience!!! We stayed in a lovely room that was stocked with scrumptious snacks, had a cloud like bed, and the most amazing rain shower (I didn't want to get out). We had a Sunday Roast dinner downstairs in the pub area (so moody and lovely) and it was arguably the best meal I've ever had. The gravy....! Oh the gravy...! To top it off, Graham was incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay and we couldn't have asked for a better person to connect with. 10 out of 10 recommend. Will absolutely come again.

Not worth it! We went for lunch. It is overpriced with small portions. But the worst part is that the food is sub par. Too many other good places where the food is delicious and well priced.

I am 64 years old and eaten out in a lot of places in that time. I have never had to wait as long as I did tonight for a meal. Obviously very inexperienced staff, although they did their best. We waited 1hour and forty five minutes for our food with very little explanation for the delay. When I eventually lost patience and asked if we were getting any food this evening the girl said she would ask the chef, I said we were told 20 minutes ago that the food was on its way, she replied that's what the chef told us to say. Never again.

We ate lunch at the Blackfriars Inverness. Lovely atmosphere, great fish, and chips. The drinks, both cocktails and beer, were fantastic. I believe the proprietor waited on us, and he was a delight.

This review is for the Pub only. One of the few places with good food open on Sunday and for Lunch. Wait to be seated sign and had to get someone’s attention. Seated at a filthy table. Took another 5 minutes to get someone’s attention. Staff is nice enough but painfully slow. When we ordered our appetizer we had not chosen our main dish. Took another 5 minutes to find someone to take that order. Orders were delivered in a reasonable time. The food was good without exception and served hot. We began with Cullen Skink and my DW had Fish and Chips while I had the Smoked Haddock & Applewood Fishcakes. Then it was time for dessert. Nope, could not find a server anywhere. Finally the boss came out to do some paperwork so I intercepted him and asked for the check. Too bad as we really wanted to try the Cranachan.

We dined at the restaurant, and did not stay at the hotel. The staff was lovely, however we had to wait a long while for our food to arrive. The staff was apologetic about it, which we appreciated. They serve big portions and the food was good.

30 minutes to be served, without having been offered the dish of the day. Steak way overcooked, inedible!

The is a review for the Pub which should have a separate Google Listing. Great service friendly staff and the food is excellent. The steak sandwich with fried onions and the carrot coriander soup were amazing. Definitely worth having a meal while in Inverness.

We were walking past on Friday evening and heard some nice sounding live jazz music so popped in. We were immediately greeted, shown to the bar and offered a choice of seats. The bar staff were friendly and helpful, and there was a wide selection of beers, wines and whiskys. This was our first visit since Blackfriars was remodelled and we were impressed with the layout and design, which is very comfortable and spacious, but still has character. The quartet (keys, bass, drums and sax) playing jazz standards really enhanced the pleasant ambience and at just the right volume so that it was still possible for those dining to talk quietly. Next time we will try the food too.

Wonderful place for lunch - the potato leek soup was especially delicious. Can’t go wrong with a pint of cold Tennent’s Lager, too. Our server, Niamh, was great and very efficient.

Stopped in for soup and beer. Evie brought us delicious sweet potato and red pepper soup along with some Cullen skink. Marvelous! The bread they served was outstanding. Evie patiently pushed tables together for our party of 5

Super cute hotel in a great, walkable location. Our bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and clean. Breakfast in the morning was simple and delicious! Staff were all friendly.

Only dined in restaurant. No guest beers, which was disappointing. 5 in party and unfortunately non found the food exciting or anything above average. We respect the fact our tastes will differ from others but the steak pie toppings were anaemic. I’ve never had white puff pastry from an oven baked pie that I would have expected to be golden brown. Obviously some people like it here - but it’s not for us.

We are not guests of the hotel but stopped in for an early evening meal. The dining room aesthetic was comfortable and the back ground music was pleasant but we had the most disappointing dining experience we’ve had since arriving in Scotland. The food was fresh and hot but the batter on the fish batter on the fish and chips was undercooked and served with regular rather than mushy peas. The pan fried salmon was well prepared but the paprika mash was just odd, in my opinion. I ordered a side salad which I never got and we were never asked if we wanted to order anything additional, including beverages. If the restaurant had been busy it would have been understandable but there were guests at only 3 other tables. We tried to get our server’s attention but a group of employees were more interested in chatting and my husband finally went over to them to pay.

The hotel room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff kindly allowed us to store our bags before checkin so we could explore. We ate breakfast two mornings for a good price, and coffee was delicious and included. Location is great! Walking distance to everything made it super convenient. Another reviewer said it was loud in the room but we didn’t experience that at all—perhaps because we were up a couple floors? Our room was quite peaceful.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The restaurant downstairs is really good and there is little reason to eat somewhere else. The breakfast they have is amazing as well. The rooms are really cozy, but the floors are really squeaky. But the rooms are spaced enough, so that you won't hear your neighbors that loud. Overall amazing and would definitely come again

Only visited the restaurant, food was great and had no issues. They were busy as hell so had to nudge them a bit here and there but again, no problems.

The interior design does not match such an old tenement house, there is no atmosphere.

A real shame - local money has gone into renovating this place but not a single local beer on tap. Alright inside but if this place isn’t serious about being local I don’t want to go. mcgregors next door will sort you out would recommend there for a true highland experience

This review is solely about the restaurant. Unfortunately we did not get to try tbe food. We arrived at 6:20pm, and were told we would have to wait 20-30 minutes for food. we had our daughter who is one and a half, and this was fine for her. We tried to order but were told we had tk wait to 7 till order. At his point, all was still ok. They'd had a lot of people beforehand and having worked in catering, I understood. However at ten past 7, another waitress came and asked if we wanted anything else, to which we said we hadn't ordered. It would be ten minutes from ordering. She took our order. At 7:45, the food was still not here, and other people were eating that had arrived after us. After another 15 minutes of nothing, we left. Our daughter had been very patient but there was only so long we could wait. The staff were apologetic, but I think there could have been a lot more communication to avoid this happening. It was my father's one night away from home the whole year and it was sad that it ended like this.

I spent a couple of hours here together with my family and friends. We had coffee, juice, beer and a great time! I'm sorry we didn't book our stay in Inverness here. Maybe next time :)

Wouldn't recommend over priced mediocre pub food with a lack of atmosphere. Expected a lot looking at reviews and was sadly disappointed. They advertised showing the rugby but no atmosphere. We seen that they have live bands at times and we expected something on a Saturday night but sadly not. I ordered fish and chips and the fish was drenched in oil, was soggy due to the amount of oil still on it. My wife had chicken Fajitas, wraps were burnt and hidden under the unburnt one. The chicken we counted 6 small chicken strips (less than half a chicken breast) not enough for the price. Sour cream and guacamole was not fresh.

A good hotel in the center of Inverness, the rooms are large and luxurious, the pub is full and the breakfast is delicious. Access is not easy when you are transported because parking is expensive and the lack of an elevator does not help with a baby or large suitcases.

Friendly staff but parking is a nightmare, the food was literally inedible and the noise above our room kept us up at night. Cute place but we won't be back.

My partner and I had a great time! We stayed at Blackfriars for just one night, the room was spacious, clean and very well furnished; we stopped for dinner and the food was also excellent and of good quality, we absolutely recommend it!

Great location, nice rooms. I was planning to give 5 stars, but after having breakfast and get charged for something It was supposed to be included in the breakfast I changed my mind. When I realized about the "mistake" and I informed the guy in charge, he refunded us the extra money was charged (Thanks!), but he didnt say anything... Not even sorry It was a mistake. We planned to have dinner, but obviously cancelled...

The location is excellent, right in the center of Invernes and close to everything. But I have to say that the hotel is wonderful. Super clean, great room service, great service. The staff are super polite and helpful. The rooms are well heated, comfortable and very cozy. I loved my stay there and I definitely plan to go back.

Golf trip and wanted a mid week dinner in Town. Selected Blackfriars from Tripadvisor and was not disappointed. There was a quiz night on that night (which we didn't know about) but we joined in and that was fun. New Owner could not have been more welcoming and attentive. A VERY acceptable wine list and good food. All in all a very acceptable dinner and will return when next in Inverness.

Went in on the Tuesday evening after eating elsewhere for drinks and watch the Scotland game. Started noticing the food leaving the kitchen for tables and had major food envy! so quickly grabbed a staff member to book for this evening. Neither my partner nor myself where disappointed the food was exceptional, the staff are very tentative without being to intense and if you enjoy cocktails they were also good and pretty fairly priced.

Recently refurbished to a great standard. We all enjoyed our meal. . Good portions and reasonable prices. Very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed here on the final night after walking the Great Glen Way over the week. It was a fantastic stay-nice atmosphere, very welcoming staff, great food, lovely well appointed and spotlessly clean room. The hotel and eating establishment are pet friendly and couldn’t have been more welcoming. Excellent music playlist in the restaurant/bar area. It was a great way to end our walk and I would highly recommend a visit.

I can only say how disappointed I am as soon as it’s in Blackfriars did sushi I was very excited as I am a massive sushi lover and I always like to try different places food as everywhere takes a different Interpretation on certain sushi is but this sushi I got here was very disappointing I personally do not feel like it can be call fresh sushi I can only compare it to prepackaged sushi you get I. the likes of supermarkets Personally I think save your money

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish!! Check in friendly & informative. Room was immaculate & perfect! Housekeeping lady was lovely.... Drinks in the bar was so nice & cozy. Loaded fries we will return for!! Breakfast waitress was really nice too. Cannot fault Blackfriars and we will definitely stay here again!

Find find find Blackfriars Hotel Inverness- lightly pickled beetroot, beautiful trout, squid ink crisps, horseradish snow & cream OMG main course perfect langustines - finish with amazingly good whisky menu don’t pass their door ! Also rooms & brekkies superb - the premises operators understand hospitality- great welcome, lovely room , all staff offering friendly and efficient service - only negative aspect breakfast coffee was dreadful

First time in after refurb etc. I was impressed! I'm a fussy bird, but I would definitely go back after this visit. They've done a great job of the refurbishment, friendly staff, clean, good food, fresh and plenty of it. Great service. Good job folks!

This small hotel was amazing from arrival to departure,the food was superb as was the staff we will return again thanks to billy and all his staff.

Had another meal here and would recommend for food and drinks. Definitely one of the best in Inverness. Not the cheapest place but I believe you get what you pay for.

What a place! The rooms are immaculately clean and the food is outstanding. Couldn’t praise the staff enough, especially Billy who was so personable. We loved it so much we extended our stay (something we have never done before). Thank you Blackfriars, we will hopefully return (and spread the word!).

The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was incredible. We felt incredibly safe covid-wise and never at any point felt hurried. 10/10 will recommend and can easily see myself eating here again.

Stayed here for an evening and the room was beautiful. The bed is big and everything was so clean! The shower was also amazing. Due to COVID restrictions we ate dinner at the restaurant and the food was great. The girl working couldn’t have been nicer and they even let us take a glass of wine up to our room to have with our cheeseboard which made the evening extra special. A continental breakfast was delivered to our room at our choice of time in the morning, there was plenty of selection and it set us up for the day! Wish we could’ve stayed longer and will definitely be back!

We stayed here one night on our way further north and wish we could have had more time here. Spotlessly clean, one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in and the bathroom was amazing - huge shower, really modern decor and a roll top bath. Breakfast was brought to our room and it was continental (came with the price) - it was fine if in with the room charge but the restaurant food was very good. We came back to the hotel a few days later on our way to the train, and had dinner. Really excellent. Had the cod rissotto, one of the nicest meals I have had in a long time. They've spent money making this place look good and it shows, the staff were friendly and I'd definitely come back here without a doubt.

Un poco caro para comida de pub, pero la comida es realmente deliciosa y el personal es encantador y servicial, así que realmente vale la pena visitar este lugar y, a pesar de mi comentario de apertura, no romperá el banco. Los precios de los bares son muy competitivos y también hay una muy buena selección de vinos.

Stopped here on our first and last night evening of NC500 and they were the most accommodating place we have been. The food was amazing and the whiskey advisory’s were the best! Had the beef cheek and it was incredible. Highly recommend

First pub visit of 2020. Had to sign in but not an issues- staff were friendly, table service was quick and several decent beers on tap. Doesn't have the choice the old Blackfriars has, but the new decor is far more appealing.

We fell upon this restaurant when were were having trouble getting into other places, and we're so glad we did! The maitre d' was very accommodating, even though we didn't have a reservation, and from the first moment the service was friendly and competent. What really blew us away was the excellent and sophisticated cooking. We had the ham hock terrine and venison tartare as starters; both were delicious and elegant. For the main, we both had the melt-in-your-mouth beef cheeks served on a bed of tasty mash. We split the cheese board for "dessert" and could hardly believe they were all locally produced. All-in-all, a wonderful and surprising find that we would happily visit again if we ever return to Inverness.

We were staying at inn but decided to have dinner as well. I had the hake risotto my fiancé had confit duck leg both were really excellent. Restaurant felt fresh and trendy, staff were attentive and friendly.We had read some reviews on this place which said food was good and i can validate this as well!

Great place- decor, service, drinks and food. My wife said that her bramble cocktail was the best she'd had. South African guy serving us was also very helpful. Uber clean as well.

Ate at the restaurant with a friend. The place was very clean - certainly covid secure. The food was sensational. We ordered the mussels as a starter - the cream sauce was beautiful. You must order the lingoustines - they were incredible and the potatoes were also lovely. Service from Billie was great too - highly recommend this place!

Popped in for a drink during our 1 night in Inverness after it was recommended to us well all I can say is it was NOT friendly we were not made to feel welcome albeit the place was half empty no manners we did not have food had 1 drink and left

Visited here on the second of our two nights in Inverness for a drink as I had seen from other reviews that it was dog friendly. Double checked before we entered if we could bring the dog in and he was welcomed with open arms - lots of fussing over him, a water bowl provided before we'd even sat down, and some tasty treats were even brought out from the kitchen for him! We were pleasantly surprised by the nice interior decor and enjoyed a couple of drinks. Staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the cocktail I had was nice as well as reasonably priced compared to the options in some other bars. Had we been staying for longer we definitely would have returned here to try the food!
