Delicious takeaway fish & chips! Fresh, crispy and so so tasty with a spritz of cider vinegar! Enjoyed them while overlooking the beautiful bay. Great value for the price.

This is the best fish and chips I've had. Forget anything negative that any of these cry babies have said about this place. If you are expecting to walk into a five star location and be pampered to cute little chairs and atmosphere, do us all a favor a leap into the bay that is just a few meters away from the door. The fellas that run this place know what they are doing. This is not a tourist trap. It is a typical small town business that just so happens to be in one of the most photographed places in Scotland which means every Karen and Kevin want their little picture and to be able to post on Instagram that they got "fish & chips". Take it from me, get your amazing food, and enjoy a walk around the wharf, and stop being a baby.

My loser friends and brother said they weren't hungry so I went and got a snack at the co op to last me till dinner. Here I go strolling down to the water and there they are in this shop eating fish and chips. My brother gets the last one before close so I made him give me half and it was the best fish and chips of our whole trip. Don't listen to these negative reviews, this is where it's at. Also don't trust your traveling companions when they say they're not hungry

Super oily, definitely the most oily fish and chips I’ve ever had in my entire life😵 There were a good amount of fish bones, for ppl who weren't good at picking them out, be careful. But it was a huge chunk of fish, and the batter was not too thick. The chips were nice, but still too oily again. Having ten bites was great but after that would be torture if you cannot handle that much oil. Recommended to share, the portion was hugggggeeee.

I had been waiting for this place my entire Scottish vacation. Somewhat of a disappointment but okay. Food was very greasy but maybe that's what all fish and chips are. There is an extra charge if you want ketchup. The chairs outside the shop were broken, so there was no place to sit and it's all take away. It's a beautiful spot. Too bad they can't offer some decent seating.

The smallest and therefore most expensive chips I’ve ever had. We had take-away and the portion of chips was just about level with the height of the low cardboard tray, or in other words one thin layer of chips.. One scoop if that. It was a childs portion at adult sizes. Avoid!

I thought it would be a good option for a meal in Portree, how wrong I was. The place wasnt busy at all (no locals) that should have been a giveaway! The portions were tiny, and the chips were soggy and tasted awful. Clearly the oil hadn't been changed in a very long time. My daughter refused to eat her food as she said it tasted 'odd'. The general hygiene of the staff and premises looked suspect. I should have gone with my suspicions as I spent the rest of the evening on the loo with an upset stomach. To add insult to injury a measly portion of fish and chips was £11.50! It seems the locals know this is not a place to go!

This is a takeout-only fish and chips restaurant. The best part about it is that you can eat it right after frying it, so it was the most delicious fish and chips I had in the UK. When eating, be sure to ask for some vinegar. The fish flesh is very tender and the potatoes are thickly fried, giving it a good texture. If you want to eat it with beer, I recommend buying beer at the supermarket in advance. The atmosphere is very romantic if you eat it while sitting on the floor looking at the sea.

I’m sure these people have their own pressures in life but that was no excuse for the stingy portion of chips and the quality of food. All I could taste was oil the rest of the day. I’d have said it was engine oil if I didn’t know that that was more expensive than cooking oil, it seemed either old or very old and it was all I could taste. Every-time I burped I wanted to check my oesophagus’s oil level with a dipstick for the rest of the day. It was a shallow tray that held the food and they made sure the chips didn’t peek over the rim. & £6.50 was the worst I’ve ever had as far as value goes. Even the salt and vinegar was managed by them and the vinegar was in a spray bottle, if you wanted more one quick squirt you had to ask. I’m only giving 2 stars because 1 says unreasonable customer. I hope they can do better in the future.

SHOP NEEDS A SERIOUS DEEP CLEAN...... Thought a nice scottish fish a chips would make the perfect end to a day. Didnt specify what end i was looking for, for the day. Menu says fish and chips. I asked cod and chips he snaps no we only sell haddock, ok thats fine with me. Salt and pepper i reply yes please, as he then snaps at the next customer asking what fish it is (maybe he couldnt spell haddock). Pulls out a dirty spray bottle and a squirts the vinegar on, ive travelled so nothing is a surprise. Got the parcels of food and we headed off, found a lovely spot to sit not far from town, started eating the fish and chips. Second bite into the fish it was off, stank and real chemical taste. We both smelt it definitely not right, smelt my mates meal thats not right either. You go back to say something massive line of people, you only get shouted at wait your turn. I said is that my order. I dunno... what do you mean you don't know.. all I wanted was salt and vinegar so inside the warmer went my 2 lots of fish and chips.. what are we waiting for??? for the peas and gravy to warm up !!!!! what ?? are they not in a bain Marie ??? so we eventually we got our food... come back to the holiday cottage.. opened up the gravy - it was lumpy and cold had to microwave and sieve it.. peas was hard and cold.. fish was soggy the batter wasn't cooked.. chips were mediocre- can't actually go wrong scooping chips into a box if I would have been eating on the hoof I would have taken it straight back asked for a full refund.. my husband contacted bank for refund.. no one in this day and age should pay a fortune for crappy food and an even worse service... do your self a favour and go else where.. Food was mediocre - greasy, bones in fish, but good batter. Price fair. But they're incapable of serving food in sequence of ordering and do not pay attention to the customers standing in the shop forever waiting for their order although people who ordered after them have gotten their food first. The shop has been in business for a long time and is popular with tourists so you would imagine them being quite experienced with these basics. But no. And when asked (by the lady who ordered before me and waited forever right in front of the 2 staff in the shop front), the lady in charge of taking orders and giving out food said "I'm sorry but I only give out what the chef has cooked". How is that even an excuse?! 1. You should make sure the chef cooks in sequence then and 2. In this case the food has been cooked and standing in the counter actually, and you are just not looking through your orders properly and serving them out in time!! And lucky for me the lady before me had asked, otherwise I wouldn't have realised that my food was also ready and sitting in the counter, waiting to be served and waited even longer! So if you don't have a choice and wants to come here, make sure you remember who ordered before and after you, and ask if you're not getting your food in sequence.

Absolutely awful. Worst chippy I have ever head, coupled with the rudest service. I asked if they did breaded fish and was given a look like I'd just been beamed down and the reply 'what you mean battered?'. Should have been a red flag that this is a sham chippy. I saw as I waited food being taken from freezers (scampi/fish) - they weren't even embarrassed to hide how crap the food was they were selling. Several foreign tourists were served as I waited, and the waitress showed complete disdain and impatience for them, it made me angry to think this might be their impression of Scottish service. Portion was tiny, chips were disgusting and went in the bin, and 'curry sauce' was just some mix-in curry sauce for making a curry at home - not chippy curry sauce. Two measly portions of scampi and chips plus curry sauce = £22.50!!! And to top it off, cans of juice were kept in a fridge which was switched off, so they were warm and horrible. Just the worst.

It still took just shy of 30 minutes for the two orders. Patience is a virtue so I was trying to be virtuous. The food was ok. The fish extremely oily. It left the chips too soggy to try. Those on top were good and the fish was hot so there’s that. Flavor was ok. They offered either salt on them or a vinegar spray. Perhaps the vinegar would help. A classic fish and chip shop in Portree. In addition to this dish they have a wide variety of similar foods, that is, almost everything is fried. I recommend trying the fish and potatoes since it is their star dish, it is good, although for my taste it is too oily. In this place you cannot eat inside, it is a "take away", food to pick up and take away. If you go at rush hour you will have to wait in line. An important detail to keep in mind, there will be two queues: one that takes you inside the premises to pay and another that takes you to the side window to pick up the order. Do not stand in the latter to place the order since you will be wasting your time, you will have to wait in the other line.

Not the best fish and chips considering it was so close to the water. Chips were a very small portion, a bit silly really. Fish was average, haggis was okay and curry sauce was like a tomatoey jar sauce you get in the supermarket. Nothing amazing, probably try somewhere else next time.

Went for haddock and chips but the fish was so small that they had to stick 2 together. It should be illegal to catch fish this small.

Spectacular sausage (in batter) and chips and a man who knows the meaning of “lots” of vinegar. So good.

Did what no other restaurant in Skye could manage, service and service with a smile. One serving and one cooking and showed the whole of Skye service industry just how it should be done. Should give lessons.

25 minute wait on a Wednesday evening for take away was a bit execessive but there were few other places open. Fish was crispy but had skin on under the batter (not my preference), the mushy peas were tinned ones and the curry sauce tasted like supermarket 'cook in' curry - was very tomatoey so fine in a chicken tikka but not with chips. The chips were okay but 8.50 for a relatively small portion aint great value.

Small portion of small, crusty chips. Fish was dry and tasteless, as were the mozeralla sticks. Avoid at all costs! I've heard the other one in Portree is great though.

Amazing chippy that you would never get down south. The cod was so fresh and soft. Chips weren't half either.

Fortunately I have not read the reviews before buying from this little stall at the harbour. My experience was an excellent one. (I doubt if this stall got mixed up with another fish and chips closer to the main road.) Me and my wife are not fish and chips persons and this become our last option because other places were either booked or failed to give us confidence for the expenses. We ordered one fish and chips which was about eight pounds and one king ribs and chips. There was no choice of fish as they claimed to use the best on that day. It takes a wait of 20 minutes as the fish was made on order. They made their fish very seriously and often tested the temperature. It turned out to be the best fish and chips quality which we have ever experienced. The King Ribs were good either but I should have bought two portions of fish and chips. This is supposed to be a takeaway stall. While we took away and ate in our hotel, we saw covered sitting opposite the road which many customers used. I am not sure if this is part of the business.

For being by the sea you'd think the fish would be excellent, unfortunately ours was quite wet and had an odd taste. The batter was pale and doughy - needed just a bit longer in the fryer. I know there was a massive queue and wanted to get food out quick, but needs more attention to frying and perhaps even a standing in the hot shelf for a few mins before serving? Chips though were amazing!!Note: Cash only

Oh my god.. I don't think I have ever had chips as bad as this.Expensive... Greasy... Overcooked... Oil needs changed as the chips were accompanied by any brown things... Presumably burnt batter or other potatoes... Lots of the chips were from bruised potatoes...wouldn't even feed this to the gullsA travesty really... I'd be embarrassed to serve this... The poor potatoes died in vain. We won't be back!

Popped in to warm my freezing hands after a great boat trip on the nearby Loch. The pot of tea was delicious (and also a welcome handwarmer!) and the food the rest of our group had (soup) went down very well indeed. Although happy with tea this time, the rea ale bore in me just had to have a nose at the beer on offer and I was very impressed. Several handpulls all serving local ale and cider on tap too. Definitely a pub I hope to visit again some day.

Beware!!!! Only serving breakfast if you're lucky. No longer serving lunch or dinner despite website declaring otherwise. No facility to book on line as there are virtually no facilities. Exactly the same scenario with the restaurant at the Premier Inn in Dumfries!!!
