The Snow Goose in Highland

Regrettably, my recent outing to the Snow Goose Pub was marred by an unpleasant encounter with the host, who displayed rudeness not only towards me but also towards other patrons. Additionally, the ambiance was disrupted by loud rave music emanating from the kitchen, which detracted from the otherwise charming atmosphere. Despite the delicious offerings, the negative experiences overshadowed the enjoyment of the evening. I sincerely hope the management addresses these issues promptly to ensure a more pleasant experience for future visitors.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Snow Goose, with the added benefit of the place catering very well for our pooch, Nutmeg. A friendly environment, clean loos, neat and tidy eating areas, and pooch pampering to boot.

A group of us up for a walking break in Inverness, had a good meal and drinks, when finished we wanted to take a photo of the group and stood near the stairs with two people standing on the bottom two stairs, the manager, I assume he was the manager shouted at us to get off the stairs, he didn’t come across to us but shouted across the bar at us. When we questioned him about it later he came up with the excuse of health and safety and that staff’s belongings were in a room upstairs, we were a group of pensioners who had no intention of stealing anything and should have been spoken to more civilly.

Nice looking restaurant. Sadly the kitchen is closed at 9 pm. Looks like the standard here for most of the restaurants. However google maps says it's open till late which is only the bar. So make it early if you plan to have dinner here. Staff was still helpful to direct us to few of the open locations in the city.

Had a good plate of mac n cheese, and some great ice cream after. Service was exceptional, prompt and efficient. Food was great, kitchen staff did their job and more. Special shout out to TvGiggs 👌

Food was delicious, service amazing, staff so friendly & cheery

We came here for mother's day 8 people in total. The waiter was lovely but service incredibly slow. So much so we ended up missing dessert as we had a cinema booking. They really need to increase their staff numbers as not fair on existing staff or customers. Food was very nice and good portions.

Andy and all the staff were very pleasant and polite. The girls really enjoyed doing the Easter egg hunt

Disappointed. My advice is if you can not do something with love don't do it at all especially in the service industry and with your prices as hi as they are I would expect value for money at least.

Had a lovely waitress called Emma serving us , great banter and amazing conversations. Extremely polite and very professional. She definitely made the experience a once in a life time.

March 2024 Another lovely lunch with our puppy Buddy in the bar. Comfy tables, good service great food and coffees. Good value lunchtime special menu . A pleasant place to spend an hour or two on a cold winter day. September 2023 Popped in for an early lunch after a Saturday morning shopping and it was nice and quiet Service was great from the waiting staff but for some reason the manager was having a little tizzy and was stomping around grumping at everyone....most unprofessional! The food was excellent, i had the sea bass and my other half had the gammon....i forgot to take photos i was so hungry! Dessert was a delicious mini brulee and espresso and himself had a chocolate honey pot which was like a little easter egg ...beautifully presented! A very pleasant meal.

The restaurant was about one quarter full in terms of tables, with two women serving when they felt like it. It’s a beautiful building with a roaring fire and wooden beams, but the staff (particularly a dark-haired, middle-aged woman) left much to be desired. We walked in having already checked online that food is served at lunchtime, and went up to the bar to request a table and drinks. The dark-haired woman looked at me blankly and said, “Well? You booked?” We admitted we hadn’t, thinking a Monday lunchtime was a reasonably safe time to not have to worry about booking. “We’ve got a lot of bookings! I’ll have to check to see if we have room for you!” and off she went in a huff. Back she came, and funnily enough there was room for two people in this building with its many empty tables. She led us off to the far side of the building, and refused my request for a particular table, “Because they’re all reserved for lunch” despite it approaching mid-afternoon. The drinks menu left much to be desired in terms of pricing, with prices either listed if the creator of said menu could be bothered to add them, or not listed so that Vintage Inns can up the prices for the umpteenth time without having to replace the menus to reflect this. We were left with menus at the table - with its empty neighbours - that we were instructed to sit at, and waited. And waited. And waited. It reached the point where we ended up going to the untended bar, hoping to remind a member of staff of our existence. A younger, blonde woman was tending to another table, and averted our gaze as she repeatedly walked past us. The dark-haired woman had disappeared, clearly tending to the many, unoccupied tables surrounding us. After walking past us no fewer than ten times, the blonde woman finally had the courtesy to tell us she won’t be a minute, and eventually we are joined by her to place our order. Two chicken and pancetta pies with fries/mashed potato, and fresh, spring vegetables; pretty simple food to make. The meals arrived, and the ‘freshness’ of the spring vegetables had clearly left some time ago with the reheating of what were clearly Sunday’s leftovers, with the broccoli capable of being folded in half without breaking, and a single piece of carrot so undercooked that the knife couldn’t even cut through it. Enter the pie, or should that be soup with the occasional piece of chicken wearing a pastry hat? The vile taste of spring onions greeted me with each mouthful of mashed potato, an ingredient that helpfully hadn’t been mentioned when we placed our order. The restaurant clearly had a surplus of the damned things and was looking for ways to get rid of them. This was all washed down with lemonade smelling so strongly of chlorine that it was akin to drinking from a swimming pool. One of the worst places we’ve ever eaten in.

Everything here was fab. We didn't have a booking and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. It's such a lovely country style pub. Doesn't feel like it belongs in this location, so it's really a nice escape!

We both enjoyed our meals - gammon steak and sea bass. Wine enjoyable, too. Could have done with more heating.

Family meal with 3 children. Food was really good and service was excellent. Andy the server had it spot on. Attentive, helpful and kept very busy. An excellent attitude towards us all. Well done.

Today me & my girlfriend went in for a light lunch. It was DELICIOUS! we stay locally in Inverness and are yet to find a better macaroni than the one we had today at the snow goose. Highly recommend the food, cocktails & beautiful interior! Such a lovely wee place. Thank you to the staff who were so welcoming and great with service, we will be returning in future :)

Rude ignorant staff who were more interested in chatting to their pals than serving customers. Very poor service indeed, would avoid at all costs. Spend your hard earned money somewhere that cares about thier customers.

Here for Mother's Day, the menu had a good selection. Staff friendly. Food excellent.

There was 9 of us there tonight . Food was fine typical pub grub. The waitress was a lovely young girl if a bit slap dash. Overall a nice night out.

We had a lovely lunch with fantastic service from Libby and Mike.

I thought the food was very good again having been a few weeks ago too. The waiting staff were pleasant, one moreso than the other, in my view. I also liked the atmosphere; low light, a fire lit etc. At first, like the last time, it was slow to get an initial drinks order in. It doesn't bother me however the friend I was with both times enjoys a drink whereas I stick to water. I also liked the fact it was quiet last night. So, I look forward to going back soon.

Was there yesterday and had a lovely waitress called Sylwia who was very polite, helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we all had a nice time during our meal. If you have an employee of the month I recommend that she be put forward for recognition as her customer service is amazing.

Just had another fantastic meal at The Snow Goose in Inverness. The ambience, the quality of the food and value for money are always perfect. What really makes this place exceptional though are the staff who are always smiling no matter how busy they are. It is extremely difficult to pick out any individuals as they are all great but the ones we know best are Andy, Sylvia and also the ever cheerful cocktail wizard behind the bar. Definitely recommended. Thank you guys.

There was nothing on the menu available ...everything we tried to order was not there.. drinks were warm and service was rushed .. didn't really feel welcome.

Pleasant atmosphere but…the service was slow and poor, 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order and it wasn’t for it being overly busy in the restaurant. Starter plates not cleared prior to the main course arriving and no clean cutlery given. Calamari was mainly batter and clearly out of the frozen department from the cash n carry. Sirloin steak was cooked nicely but very tough, sea bass was also cooked well but the spring onion mash was terrible as was the so called “veloute” which transpired to be a lumpy congealed sauce with whole peas and stringy bacon. Very disappointing

Waiting staff helpful but sorely under staffed . One waiter serving the whole restaurant. Kitchen staff helping at times,therefore long waiting times for service. I felt sorry for the poor lad working so hard.

Stopped in starving and looking for vegan food after a 9 hour drive. The place was full but Mike the manager squeezed us in and we were soon tucking into an excellent, tasty vegan penang curry. Just what we needed, cheers.

Our meal was excellent fresh and hot. Also had a hot drink with mini pudding which is a great Idea. One of us had a latte the glass had no handle and she found it too hot to hold was offered another cup which helped.

Very nice , cosy table by the fire , wee bit wear n tear on some seats , but food was great , service was -well we tipped for the entertainment value 🤣

One of the best roast dinners in town?

We visit almost every 3 weeks, have always had great service from all the staff and in particular Andy, Sylvia, and chefs Will and Adrian.

A bright and buzzy restaurant with excellent service from Emma, bright bubbly and with a good sense of humour and very attentive. Delicious food and good portions and all our table happy and content. Well done chef Clair

Food quality usually very good. Real fires to sit next to in the cold months are a treat.

Unfortunately the food didn’t seem fresh (re-heated burger possibly) and the food was lukewarm.

This is possibly the worst vintage inns I've had the displeasure of visiting. The service was almost non existent and would have probably been best off heading to the kitchen and bar and serving ourselves instead. We arrived with the idea of the fixed price lunch menu which of course we were not offered and instead only the full menu given, I had to ask for the former, where after a fair few minutes it came out of hiding. I feel sorry for the poor folk around us seemingly unawares of this option. Any orders had to be placed at the bar with no table service offered. When ordering from said fixed price menu with the idea being two courses or more, I tried to order both main and dessert at the same time. "Oh we can't do that or they'll both come out at the same time". Somewhat perplexed by this I ordered only our mains instead. Seemingly the kitchen could not cope with the two courses being ordered at the same time for it would cause only confusion. Strange. Our mains arrived, with no cutlery, nor salt, nor pepper available. I asked for cutlery... some time later I gave up and went off to fend for myself, hunting down a fork, luckily the table next door were more than amenable, but when asked if they had salt or pepper, only replied with, "no, we didn't get that either". I dared not to go in hunt for condiments for fear my food would be stone cold before I had the chance to eat it. It seems service isn't the strong point of this particular establishment and your staff desperately need further training, for anything we asked seemed to be a burden. The only saving grace is the food was somewhat average, filled a gap and the coffees we had when we first arrived were used against the two course offer. Still, it's safe to say I would not visit this venue again and it was somewhat of an incredibly disappointing venture, though it did kill some time on a very miserable and rainy afternoon.

Recently came here on a work night out. Staff were full of personality and the food was excellent. In particular the Garlic Mushrooms starter was excellent.

Great food, great service in a lovely coaching inn! The fires were lit, comfy cosy and not a care in the world, just relax and enjoy the food and surroundings. Lovely staff too!!

Great place.ample parking Great warm welcome from manager.taken straight to our table.Great smile from host libby.New what specials were and advised us accordingly.Toasted bread with soup was great suprise main meal steaks cooked to perfection. Well priced and great service throughout place was busy and food looked amazing coming out the kitchen. Will be back next month for sure

23/1/24- We waited around 10 minutes just at the bar to be served. The staff did not even acknowledge coming in, and someone sitting on the chair didn't bother to respond. When served, there was no apology either, perhaps its standard to wait that long at the quietest period. 24/1/24- majority table in the bar area had plates or glasses so went for a clean table that were not marked reserved and headed towards them but the waitress shouted rather loudly and rudely (no please no thank you on top of her voice) that rhe area we were heading was reserved for food only that was at 20:40 struggled to find a table, to which a gentleman who greeted us at first stood up and started cleaning the tables. Poor customer service, no mannerism, and plainly speaking outright rude! Certainly, it is not a way to speak to a customer. My suggestion would be to perhaps provide some basic customer service training or refresher to that lady and staff for the day before. Other than that atmosphere was pretty nice, the environment was interesting and warm and obky ruined by the lack of hospitality.

We arrived in Inverness for a short break from home in Elgin, unfortunately the snow arrived at the same time but we still managed to visit our favourite place to eat on both nights! The food is delicious, the place is spotless and welcoming and the service is amazing. Our first evening we were served by Aaron, who is everything a server should be, polite, attentive with the most important asset when dealing with the public - a cracking sense of humour. The 2nd night we ate in the bar where the service was just as good with banter thrown in for good measure!! We will definitely be back, thank you.

Went for lunch today. Waiter was excellent. Took our drinks order. A bit slow in taking our meal order. Meal took 40 mins to arrive after chasing it. Pizza was undercooked. Transpires the 1st pizza was burnt. Went to pay, management knew the story so did the waiter but nothing had been deducted from the bill. Only after saying that the service was really slow and the pizza was undercooked did we get a discount. I would rather they were honest about what was happening then we could have made a decision to stay or go....

Meal was absolutely lovely, sat right beside a fire place which was so cosy. The server was absolutely great, kind and welcoming, the wee one loved her, server took ths time to speak to her and took her order from her which my daughter loved. Only thing I think should be added is more options for Dairy free puddings instead of sorbet, like dairy free brownie/cake, anything. Not every one who is dairy free actually likes sorbet! Will definitely be back though!

Ordered the soup of the day. Wasn't crazy about it. But my friend enjoyed it. I had the creme brulee as a desserrt. It was average. Also, we both had large hot lattes which for some reason, came in a tall glass, without a handle! Made it near impossible (and a little dangerous) to drink.

Some of the Meals ordered didn't come out what was asked for! Service and waiting time was pretty long! Table we where sitting at we got a cold blast of air every time the door was opened! We have eaten in here on many occasions and couldn't fault it before!

The food was fantastic and came out in a fairly timely manner. The venue itself is beautiful and was met with a lovely cosy fire. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. My only improvement would be that the bill did take forever to get sorted out and it took a while to be able to get their attention

Very disappointed to be turned away on New Year's Day after driving 30 miles from Invermoriston to find an open dog friendly pub. You were nearly empty, but we were told "Sorry, we're not doing walk-ins today." Shame that wasn't on your website. Oh, and your booking engine just returned an "Oops! Something went wrong error". We just wanted a quiet drink. Happy New Year.

Went for Xmas dinner. The food was pretty awful. Bad experience won't be back

We had reserved a table and no wait to be seated on arrival and shown to the table by Tom who looked after us very efficiently from then to our departure. The food and service were excellent and very pleasant surroundings near to the fire which was welcome on a very cold night. Our only niggle was the very noisy table of six behind us which made it difficult at times to hear each other talk. Well worth a visit to this well run restaurant.

The food was really good but unfortunately, service was extremely slow and we had to prompt on more than one occassion. After we arrived it took about 20 mins for someone to even take a drinks order, after then waiting a further 15 mins the drinks hadn't arrived so I went to the bar to ask for them. At the end of the meal we ordered desserts and waited about 30 mins for them to arrive, again, after mentioning to someone that we were still waiting for them. The place was practically empty at the time so unfortunately, I don't think there was any real reason for the delays and obviously no-one was really keeping an eye on what was happening with our table. So, a very mixed experience as whilst we enjoyed the food itself, we would be very wary of coming back due to the slow service.

I sent an email to the snow goose last night as seen below… 24 hours later and no reply Good evening. We had a booking today for a family of 6. 3 members of the family couldn’t make it due to the weather damage in Dufftown. We arrived early and were welcomed. On ordering food and drinks we heard on a couple of occasions 2 members of staff arguing and shouting. For a beautiful place that you have this spoilt the atmosphere. The venue was quite quiet but still…. Our food arrived and the fries were solid, apart from that the food was amazing although it was long waits in between courses with not much attention from staff. I always like to leave reviews and recommend places but felt on this visit I would email you instead of leaving a review.

Very tasty lunch. Opted for the pie of the day - steak and venison. Delicious pie and accompanying vegetables - well done chef. Lobby the waitress was very attentive.

Arrived here on the 27th December after a long journey from the North, hoping for a quick drink and a rest due to the A9 south being closed because of snow. Thought this would be ideal as is dog friendly, but sadly we didn’t even get to sit down. Told very abruptly that they weren’t taking any “walk-ins”, not even for a drink, despite the place being half empty. Please don’t work in the hospitality industry if you do not wish to be hospitable! Very disappointing, but we were welcomed elsewhere and will be sure never to return to The Snow Goose.

Improve on the taste of the food.The scollops were tasteless and cold.The sweets were very dry and awful.We did know whether it was turkey or chicken for Christmas dinner also the time between courses was rediculous.All in all extremely disappointed in Christmas Day meal.

The food was absolutely lovely. The staff were very attentive and accomodating. I had to ask a couple of unusual requests due to having autistic members of the party, plus one no show. But the staff could not have been more helpful. Especially Andy who was extremely cheery and attentive, despite how busy the whole team were.
