Dows bar and restaurant in Highland

My local bar when I'm in Inverness and although it's not the most glamorous of places, it's got plenty of screens for the sport, a beer garden with play area for kids, a pool table (which is free on Mondays and Tuesdays!) and good craic with the regulars.

Not a rustic pub but absolutely sufficient for a comfortable drink of Guinness. Food tastes good.

Unfortunately there was no food there. I have no idea why not.

Very disappointed went there on a 20 mins walk because checked Google and it said 1am closing time on a Thursday. To arrive by 12:35 to be completely shut and ps have had staff since last year be soo rude. So I stopped going for a while. Until tonight for them to be shut ehh

Had to wait 10 minutes for the staff to come inside from their cigarette, then was told they don’t sell food at all, despite being a bar & bistro with a massive sign at the entrance saying restaurant?

I had booked a charity event and it was amazing, the staff from brambles and Dows were a pleasure to work with and the event was a complete success❤️

So glad they were able to get us in. Seems all restaurants in Scotland want you to make a reservation.

Food was OK, pics look better than it tasted. Roast dinner was lacking some flavours here and there. ie, gravy. Cauli cheese didn't taste of cheese. Roasties a little undercooked. Value for money though.

Always a nice friendly place to shoot some pool. And have a small meeting.

I had always enjoyed eating at Dows in the past, but have to admit its not been for a few years since moving out of town. As our local regular eatery was closed we decided to give Brambles at Dows a go . Oh how it has changed , you have to go through the public bar to get to the dining area and on entering it felt like a scene from Deliverance, everyone seemed to stop what they were doing and stared as we walked through... I didn't recall anyone playing the banjo on the front steps though. !! We were seated by a rather young but pleasant enough waitress and duly ordered food. We asked for some drinks and were told we needed to order at the bar which meant leaving the dining room and going back into the bar and pay separately There were a few what I can only describe as rather "fragrant" folk propping up the bar. The Steak and Ale pie was truly a thing to behold but sadly not in a good way. The "puff" pastry resembled a piece of square thin cardboard and was sitting rather forlornly atop a brown soupy gravy containing rather small pieces of meat. In all I counted 5 bits. This culinary delight came with chips, peas and carrots. The chips were the best bit on the plate. My friend had the Sticky Toffee pudding which was clearly a microwaved treacle sponge masquerading as sticky toffee pudding. So disappointed as we had high hopes for our meal here. All things considered we wont be returning .

Great food and service. The waitess was brilliant and the chef made me a special meal which was delicious. Thank you. A great evening out.

Good beer and bar-service, but mediocre food. The waitress seems a bit confused, but got everything right at the end.

Went to watch England batter Ukraine at Dows. Plenty of like minded folk there. Disappointing selection of draught largers (Tenants only) and the bottles are over priced at roughly £4 each (small corona), particularly when you could nip to the shop next door and get bigger bottles for cheaper. Overall, the bar staff were friendly, and the folk who were also there seemed friendly enough.

Very slow service as had to wait over an hour for food as the excuse was 1 chef and 1 waitress! Food was rubbish and portion sizes could have been better! Wasn't worth the price we paid,asked for a a Diet Coke again we had to ask how long the drink was going to be as they were more interested in serving alcohol outside to rowdy customers. No social distancing adhered to outside. Definitely WON'T BE RETURNING as service is absolutely shocking.

La comida fue increíble. ¡El servicio fue excelente! Fue una tarde tranquila y, a pesar de que dos clientes hicieron una pequeña escena sobre su factura, fue un gran almuerzo. El personal manejó a los clientes difíciles de manera excelente.

Comenzó bien. Servidor atento, algunos de los artículos del menú no están disponibles debido a que no se entregan ese día. Desayuno todo el día solo hasta las 12 pm (Realmente desayuno entonces). El único problema fue el plan Eat out to help out. 2 personas comedor. Tanto las comidas como las bebidas cuestan aproximadamente 12 cada una. Entonces, como había 2 clientes, teníamos derecho a un 50% de descuento cada uno hasta un máximo de 10 por persona. Bill llegó a los 22. 50. Pero solo recibieron 10. 00 de descuento, que es el máximo por mesa según lo indicado por el personal, por lo que se cobró de más por 1. 25. Abordé esto con el personal, pero nuevamente dije solo 10 por grupo. . no impresionado con esto.

El 90% del menú no estaba disponible. El pescado estaba demasiado cocido. El esquema de comer fuera del 50% no se reconoce aquí correctamente, ya que afirman que es hasta 10 por mesa, no por persona. Sin embargo, no me puedo quejar del servicio de mesa de Lee, que era excelente.

Great pub, food and pints. Friendly, welcoming staff and locals. Worked hard to ensure all was Covid safe. Definitely worth a visit if you like down to earth people and want to relax with a few drinks. So glad we checked this out as we were up for a wee break from Edinburgh. Food priced reasonably and very tasty Both had the chilly dog and chips.

Lovely friendly staff, quickly served and had some food which was great. 3 of us had the dogs along with a few drinks. Couldn't fault it in any way. The locals and guests that were there were really friendly also. Already booked to go back 😊😊

Caminé hasta Dows mientras pasaba la noche en un hotel cercano. Tomé una buena pinta de John Smiths y pedí un pastel de carne con cerveza que estaba muy sabroso. Nos sentamos en una mesa junto a la ventana en el invernadero con el sol brillando. Muy buen servicio y un ambiente agradable.

went in for food and a quiz and its safe to say i will definitely be going again! the bar staff are so polite, the food was wonderful and the quiz was great fun!

Dows serve amazing food with great homely feeling service. Really easy to just blether to the staff and feel comfortable from the get go. Food is great, drinks are great and the atmosphere tops it off.

Decided to go to their quiz night but went early for food aswell. The food was great!! The quiz was good fun, will definitely be back to do another one!

Great place for families, food was amazing, garden play area is great for children to run off energy. Staff are very attentive, gave the children colouring in sheets and crayons, didn’t feel rushed or that anything was a bother (I have a very fussy child)

Came here for a quiz night which was amazing fun! The staff where amazing and friendly. The food was so tasty, I had the Cajun Chicken pasta which was so filling and seasoned perfectly! Such a lovely local bar and restaraunt!

Here in a regular basis, never disappoints at all, food was excellent and homemade, steak pie was better than my mums. 😊

Went to a quiz night here in March, great fun and walked away a winner! Didn’t try the food but the menu looks great and looking forward to making it my first stop when it re-opens 😊😊

Visited here for their quiz night... would say I got dragged along with the people I was with because I'm clueless when it comes to quizzes but can I say I really enjoyed myself and what topped it all off was the service and some good quality food Thank you Dows and ill definitely be back to attempt to hold my last place position

Friendly staff and good food at a reasonable price

Went today for some lunch and highly recommend. Good menu choice and very good service from the staff also. The prices for the food are very reasonable for the prices. Only minor downside was the slight wait for our food but worth the wait.

Fantastic food, very large portions left satisfied. Waitress was very polite and helpful. The wait for food wasa little bit longer than expected.

Had lunch here today, a party of 5, service was first class and the food excellent, very good value.

Schönes, geräumiges Lokal mit entspannter Atmosphäre. Die Preise sind ok. Der Service war freundlich. Lediglich eine Getränkekarte haben wir vermisst. Als wir kamen, hieß es, wir müssten mit 45 Minuten Wartezeit rechnen. Letztlich ging es aber sehr flott in 15 Minuten. Das Essen war sehr gut. Tipp: Es gibt für gewisse Gerichte einen Rabatt, zum Beispiel auf Mac&Cheese, Lasagne und Schinken-Steak. Da spart man einiges! An der Bar gibt es auch eine kleine Auswahl lokaler Biere. Kartenzahlung wird übrigens akzeptiert. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt genossen.

Not friendly at all. Non locals are not welcome. Service is non existent. Left after about ten minutes of everyone just staring.

I had not been to Dows for some time and on viewing the menu I was at first a little disappointed that it appeared to have become a fast food place. However, the food was very good and the service from Liam was friendly,pleasant and efficient. It was good value.

The food was awful! Duck stir fry was a few small bits of grizzly meat with noodles and frozen peas. Chicken fajitas was reheated chicken with an odd sauce!! I keep trying it hoping the food gets better! Why can’t it improve! Only ones eating at 8pm on a Friday!!

I went here with a close friend for a catch up recently and it accommodated perfectly. Not too loud, nice atmosphere and the food was fantastic! Gave us a lot of options and was great value for our money. Might make it our regular!!

We were greeted at the door and shown to our table and given a copy of the menu fairly swiftly. The waitress asked if we wanted a pre-lunch drink and then gave us a few minutes to look at the menu before returning to take our order. The food arrived in good time and it was all very nice. I would have no hesitation in returning to eat here again. The decor is nice and it was an enjoyable experience.

Visited again Saturday, 20th April '19 for a surprise 40th. Great establishment , friendly staff and highly recommended for meals, getting together with friends and family for drinks or if you're thinking about a party night as they offer free booking of the conservatory.

That chef can cook. Was in on Easter Sunday and WOW, the turkey dinner was absolutely fantastic. Also, the Mac & Cheese with Haggis, although I wouldn't have put the two together before this, was one of the tastiest meals I've had. Well done chef 👍👍👍👍👍

After some training that we held at their fantastic conference suite on Thursday, a friend and I had a wonderful dinner at the famous and very friendly Dows Bar & Bistro.

We were given a warm a warm welcome We were show to our table right away and our drinks order taken and give our driinks right away and our food order taken we had a short wait for our food to arrive as it was freshly made I had a praw coctail served with lovely fresh brown bread THe main course hunter chicken was served hot and good of good qualityThere two point I found wrong the food was served on cold plates and the chips were mushy and over cooked

This was our first visit in many years. On arrival we received a very friendly welcome by blonde female member of staff (sorry didn’t know her name!). We were shown to the conservatory which was lovely and cosy compared to the awful wind, rain and sleet outside! Bright and pleasant surroundings. Given menus and asked for drinks order. Vegan options indicated and when no tofu available offered mushrooms as an alternative or the chef could do anything else as chose Teryiaki Salad (very accommodating). The sauce was delicious and complimented the salad which was a good sized portion. My husband and daughter had the burger and chips and house nachos with guacamole etc and chips they both really enjoyed their meals very tasty good size and filling. The chips were lovely just like home cooked. We didn’t have to wait long at all either. The food prices were very reasonable too. My only suggestion, as a Vegan, would be to have a couple of choices of more substantial main meals. We’ve already booked our next visit and Dow’s will definately become a regular for us now. Thank you.

I've visited Dows a few times, and have never been disappointed. The food is amazing, and you get plenty of it. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend!

Se dejó caer en Dows después de una visita aérea para ver a Amy Fraser en Inverness y es un gran lugar pequeñito. Los nachos para compartir son fabulosos nos llenaron de inmediato. Emma y el personal son encantadores.

No conseguí una buena vibra de este lugar donde la sidra de barril tenía un poco de sabor / repugnante como si no se hubieran limpiado las pipas y el ambiente fuera terrible. . . Tomé 1 pinta de sidra y al día siguiente estaba muy enferma.

Great little gastropub, staff were very attentive and freindly and the food served was all full of flavour and great to taste. The Chicken Waffle Burger is a must have for anyone who loves some quality chicken!
