We had a wonderful time visiting Inverness and the Castle Tavern provided a fantastic lunch. Their potato soup with rosemary was light and delicious. The fish bites were crisp and flaky. And the sticky toffee pudding was perfect! Thanks to the staff and servers for making us feel welcome.

Came here because fish and chips were gluten-free. Presentation of food and portion size were good; however, my fish was not fresh as it tasted like ammonia, which is an indicator of breakdown in the meat. I didn't eat it.

Pleasant location by the river with affordable food and drinks. It’s a traditional bar, restaurant and beer garden in the heart of Inverness. They sell a collection of ever changing local ales alongside their regular drinks menu which is quite extensive. Make sure to look at their Malt of the Month and the selection of wine from their recommended list. Their food menu is filled with freshly prepared wholesome food with the best locally sourced ingredients. Famous for their warm and friendly hospitality, The Castle Tavern is a much loved place to visit by locals and tourists alike, many returning year after year to soak up the traditional atmosphere and be among those who know them best.

Food here was terrible, starter was miniscule. Two tiny fish goujons, not enough to feed a child let alone a grown man, £9, WAISTED. Steak pie again very small, most definitely more like a child portion. Fish n chips really bad. Most definitely the worst we've had, bordering on burnt, horrible frozen chips, for almost almost £20 for a main meal, it is a joke. First time here for food and most definitely the last. Shocking prices for the terrible food received. We felt completely ripped off. The fish batter was awful, steak knives would have been appropriate to cut through it, just very disappointing.

A shadow of the place it was under the old management. The Tavern has started to become grotty inside, the selection of ales seems much more limited, and the staff don't seem to care too much. The outside beer garden is full of junk and debris. A perfect example on how to wreck a good business - now trading on former glories.

Did not have food - drinks only Stopped for a pint with family, always visit when I am in Inverness. First impressions are this is a no frills traditional pub, lots of character and a really welcoming. Staff are friendly and there is a wide selection of real ales. Price is reasonable for the area, 4 x pints cost £17 which i thought was pretty good. Although did not have food, there are menus available and the food leaving the kitchen looked nice, did not notice any complaints from diners. Always visit for a pint and would definitely recommend, it’s a nice traditional pub to stop and have a drink at.

Interesting (architecture and style of the building) smallish pub (football/ sports shown on TV outside and in) and upstairs restaurant (relatively spacious, fully packed and with piped music makes it a bit difficult to hear conversations) up a hill in Inverness, overlooking the river and the Cathedral. Didn't enter the pub downstairs as it was quite crowded, but went upstairs (we were a group of 4, visited 2nd weekend February 2024) and managed to sit early. Food was nice, everyone had starters (I had a slightly spicy red pepper soup, nice, with a piece of toasted bread), for Mains I had a shaped Haggis dish (nicely presented, but a little dry and needed more sauce), the Onion rings were huge and the Fish & Chips looked tasty. Everyone was satisfied and we had coffee with to finish. Drink + starter + mains +coffee (both flat white and Espresso both cost £3.50, I wasn't expecting to pay the same price for an Espresso as a normal large flat white 😕) was roughly £28. Staff were attentive and pleasant to chat to, would come again.

Haven't eaten here for a while so star review is from several years ago but was great then. We stop by here about once a week for a drink when we're in town. Sitting outside under the heaters in winter has one of the best views in Inverness and we love it. In summer it is much busier, but still a great place to hang out with friends. Staff are always friendly and there is a real "local" feel to the place that is always welcoming. Real Ale on tap is good and changes regularly.
