Walked here from nearby accommodations for a casual weeknight dinner plus a drink. Exceeded expectations! Their pork loin dinner special was spectacular. Wonderful sear on a juicy cut of pork, in a beautiful brown sauce. Each side veg was also done well and added to the flavors of the dish. Wow. Cullen skink was also delicious and rich. We enjoyed the outside seating under a heat lamp and watched some football. Bartender and manager were friendly and patient. Nice peek at the river.

Splendid little pub on the outskirts of Inverness with 5 beers on tap from Scottish breweries The barman put on a fresh cask of Orkney Dark Island for me, as the one that was on ran out. That is going above and beyond - so having had a beer from Cromarty I found it necessary to have the Orkney as well

Excellent food for a pub. There was now here to sit inside but we decided to stay since it was Sunday at 7pm and hungry without any reservations elsewhere. The mushroom and herb soup (special of the day) was very good. The fish and chips was humongous and tasty, the salmon was crispy and had very tasty veggies. Lastly the Mac and cheese was good.

This restaurant is very close to the accommodation my mum and I stayed in when visiting Inverness on a bus tour. The staff received us well from start to finish. I ordered Steak sandwich and my mother North sea haddock & Chips and it didn't take long until we got our food and I have to say it's one of the tastiest things we've eaten 😌 Perfectly fried meat, crispiness and taste. A delight for the taste buds! As an autistic person, it is important to me that there is not too much noise or bright lights and you get my approval, it was just right. If I ever visit Inverness again I'm sure that I'm gonna come back here and try some new dish.

A quaint and charming pub full of history, fine food, and an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Inside seating is limited, but there are several covered tables outside. While there are a few seats at the bar, like most places I’ve been (this is my first time in Scotland.), you don’t eat there. The bar area is for drinking. When you’re ready to eat, you sip at one of the tables, close enough to your neighbors to enjoy a conversation. I had two starters and highly recommend them both: the haggis croquettes, and the wings. And of course, a pint. The croquettes had all the earthy flavors you’d expect from haggis, and are quickly deep fried. The wings were unlike any I’ve had in the states. No Frank’s hot sauce here, just an unusual and flavorful dry rub, cooked to perfection. A woman at a neighboring table had both a gluten and dairy allergy, and they were able to accommodate her. Check this place out, you won’t regret it, and will leave with a full belly and great memories.

After leaving Inverness I’ve been trying Cullen Skink everywhere else and they are not as good as The Castle Tavern’s! It was so rich and creamy and puts all other Cullen Skinks to shame! Their fish and chips is also one of the best I’ve had in the UK and their steaks were amazing too! This place has a nice atmosphere but is slightly chaotically run. I arrived at about 6:30pm on a busy Wednesday evening and had a drink at one of the tables outside. I then tried to order food at the bar but was told I wasn’t sitting at a table where food could be served, because it’s a small kitchen (not sure about the logic there but never mind). I quickly found a table where food could be served, but had to go back to the bar to order the food. One of the members of staff said that anyone could take my table while I was gone ordering food, and he wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. How then, is a solo patron supposed to be able to keep their table and order food? I ordered fish and chips which were fine, and a garlic bread, which was terrible - I think they forgot to add garlic or butter to it? It was just … bread? The fish and chips were priced on the menu at £15.95 and the GB was £3 but I was somehow charged £20.50.

Vibe: great Decor: nicely styled and fitting with local area and great colour scheme. First impressions: Driving into the car park you get a feeling of ‘this is going to be good’ and you just know you're in for a treat. It's not the dark and gloomy, stuck in the past place it was when it was named “the keppoch”. Menu: The menu is small but has plenty choice and isn't overwhelming like other restaurants. Although at first glance the food does appear to be expensive and over priced, it's worth it when it comes to quality and quantity The Food: I had the “Battlefield burger” with bacon and cheese. The meat was juicy and smokey, the coleslaw was creamy and the meal as a whole was amazing. My fiancée had the haddock and chips. The haddock was beautifully cooked throughout, had a light fluffy texture and the batter was perfect! All in all, an amazing place to eat some amazing food. So disappointed with everything. We thought that by needing a reservation, and being recommended by our accommodation this would be a a guaranteed good dining experience, food and all. The atmosphere feels like a college cafe, with bright overhearing lighting, worn furniture and terrible art. The service was lacking with only one person managing the dining room. We had our hungry kids with us and ordered bread for the table, it didn’t come until our food was delivered 45 minutes later. Other guests were ignored or forgotten about. Staff need be trained in customer service and hospitality. The food wasn’t good either and came lukewarm. I would avoid this place for food, maybe it’s okay for drinks. We booked here for my mums birthday, and had a nice enough meal. The haggis and roast chicken were lovely, however the steak was tough and dry, and didn’t seem like it was worth the £25 we paid for it. We were asked if we would like a dessert however we were so full we declined, and were brought the bill instead. They then proceeded to rush us to pay and after a £180 bill and generous tip, we were told we’d have to leave our table as they “had another booking” (why they would offer us dessert if they had another booking I have no idea, and we’d only been there 80 minutes, which doesn’t seem like a lot of time to leave between bookings!) We still had drinks left and were told we would have to finish them downstairs, where there were no seats other than to outside where it was windy and rainy. We instead requested a refund on our last round of drinks seeing as we didn’t have chance to drink them, and the manager apologised and admitted they’d had a walk-in, despite the fact there was a sign up saying no walk-in’s as the restaurant was fully booked. Overall we were not very impressed by this service as it’s not nice to feel rushed, but were grateful they refunded our drinks.

A couple of weeks ago I went to China and bought 3 of this hat for myself and 2 friends of mine. Yesterday we met at the Castle Tavern to watch the football game when we were approached by the manager and a waiter asking us to remove the hats as someone was feeling offended by it!!!! I argued that it was absolutely ridiculous for someone to feel offended by a hat with a Chinese flag and refused to take it off but they were insisting that we could not remain in the pub wearing it. When I took my mobile phone and started recording a video of the situation they went away and did not bother us again. These lunatics have their iPhones, clothes and shoes made in china but feel offended by a hat with a Chinese flag on it??? I am sure I would have been praised if it was the Palestine flag on it! And shame on the Castle Tavern management for even considering bothering a customer for wearing a harmless hat with a flag from another country. For me, this is the real discrimination.

We have been frequenting the Castle Tavern in Inverness for many years, as the location, food and service staff were excellent. June 2024 will unfortunately be our last, as the menu choices were terrible and expensive, alongside the price of soft drinks being extortionate. We had made reservations for dinner at the restaurant. The young man who served gave us a better table than the one with our name on it. This seems to be a scam because the same thing happened with the next two couples that came. I had Cullen Skink as a starter, which was good. My husband had the soup of the day, supposedly tomato-aubergine. It was diluted Tomstenmark, heated and sprinkled with a little herb oil and a little parsley. My cider was good, my husband's Calledonian Best looked and tasted like it was diluted 1:1 with tap water. My Cesar salad was ok, but the parmesan shavings were missing and the sweet potato fries were uncut, limp and there was a whole tablespoon of oil in the bowl. My husband chose the roast lamb: 2 thin, tough slices of meat in a sauce, with 2 half potatoes, half a beetroot and half a yellow beet and 4 tiny, shriveled carrots. Never again!

Being a pub/restaurant we had a bit of difficulty understanding whether we had to wait at the entrance to ask about the restaurant or whether we could already go up to the first floor. After a few minutes where no one paid attention to us we went up and sat down (and the table wasn't the one with our name but that's fine anyway) Some difficulty understanding with the waitress but it depended on the language. We ate well, my boyfriend a special dish while I wanted to try the steak & scottish ale pie again which in the end was different from the one in Stirling but very good. Price like other places visited in Scotland.

Perfect pub. Wanted a pub with food and not a restaurant pretending to be a pub. Gorgeous beer garden seating. Cullen Skink was chock full of delicious fish Recommend.

Tasty food with a great view of Lochness. The staff are lovely and they have a good selection of whisky. Good value 3 course meal deal.

Très agréable situation entre 2 ballades, service très prévenant. Des plats typiques, abordables. Le top après une journée de tourisme.

After poor experiences in Oban and Fort William this place restored our faith in a Scottish breakfast and hospitality. Great service, even better breakfast made with quality ingredients.

We booked for Sunday lunch and it was an absolute delight. It was a set priced menu with 3 courses for just under £25, The choice was great and the food outstanding. We were well looked after and the gardens are lovely too.

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
