Very nice Scottish pub, in an excellent location, with splendid views down to the river and up to the castle, looking down and up. Prices are pretty reasonable for a very touristy area. Certainly comparable to any other tourist area. We got 2 pints of beer, and two glasses of wine, and an appetizer for £37. Service was good. You Order at the bar after looking at the menu, and give them your table number. It Seems to be a spot favored by locals and tourists alike. Several TVs turned to sporting events like football (soccer) and rugby. Interior is cozy but small. Restrooms are downstairs.

£10.50 for a diet coke and a single vodka soda and lime. Tourist trap looking to cash in with tourists. Used to be a fine pub for the locals but now feels dirty inside, please give the mirrors behind the bar a clean.

Traveling from the U.S. and wanted to try a tavern. This place was above and beyond our expectations. Delicious food—Cullen Sink soup, fish and chips, Mac & cheese, and waffle dessert were absolutely amazing. The Mac & cheese is a bit different from U.S. Mac & cheese but equally delicious. The guys working the bar and restaurant were top-notch and attentive. Highly recommend this tavern. Scottish people in general are super welcoming and this bar staff was super welcoming and nice—thank you!!!

Absolutely dreadful service today, 30th April lunch time. Bar member clearly not impressed that he was working solo, bar staff not turning up.. Not our problem!!!!! Shocking service from a very disgruntled bar man. Never again will we darken your door. We were going to order food, on our way up the brae, saw kitchen staff outside smoking away, disgusting and put us off ordering food. Simply, overpriced and service was a joke.

We only stopped here because our hotel was around the corner and we were hungry. At first glance it looks like a cool place to stop and eat. I had fish and chips, the only one available was the gluten free. Maybe this is what affected the batter, it had no taste, it was crispy but the inside was swimming in grease. I ended up scraping the batter off and just eating the fish. The guy who served us really didn't want to be there or enjoyed his job, or at least that's how it came across to me the customer. Would I go there again? Not for food, drinks maybe

Pub with restaurant on the first floor, overlooking the castle, unfortunately currently under renovation, so you don't see much. Unpretentious environment and service (a little abrupt and hasty, with little desire to explain the dishes), good quality. The best Cullen Skink I have eaten in Scotland and great fish. Very nice pub on the outside, weather permitting it is very nice to sit outside.

It's one of the rare establishments I've found that serves it in a main dish. I've never seen onions this big: they were super good. The sweet potato fries were a little soggy. It was a very nice experience and the first floor is nice. Note that there is a covered terrace and a second uncovered one. Very reasonably priced and has a children's menu.

The food itself was just as high standard - the haggis stood out for me it was utterly delicious. A huge well done to the team working and thanks for a really lovely lunch! 🏴👍👍👍

Went for food this afternoon. They have a flat iron steak on the menu, but 8oz sirloin available on the specials board. We decided to go for the sirloin as its generally softer steak. The meal turned up and looked good, and all of the items served with it were tasty. However, the sirloin didn't look or taste like a sirloin. Its meat fibers were tight and chewy, which makes me believe that it was the lesser of the two mentioned steaks. I mentioned it to the waiter, who said he would pass it onto the kitchen. I'd suggest either changing the meat suppliers if they are being sold inferior cuts of meat or clearly labelling the steaks in the fridge so the cook knows which is which. Overall, the meal and surroundings were nice but let down by the cut of meat.

Really disappointed. This has been our 'last post' on the way home many times. Stopped for something to eat tonight. Did not complain about the food but just explained that it was not the quality for the cost, as the steak was an inedible cut. When we went to pay they charged full cost. I explained why this should be reduced to be told, that's what it is! You will not be our go to place again. Get a taxi and go to the fluke....better value, service and manners.

Me and my partner wanted to have some drinks here because we thought the terace loved absolutely lovely. The guy from the bar was apparently friendly but from start gave us the small pints even though we asked for big and then, when we went outside, a lady from the bar came after us and she kept staring at us the whole time we were there, like we were planning to steal something.

Just back from evening at The Castle Tavern. Was entertaining American friends so thought it would be nice to take them to a local pub rather than a chain restaurant. The haddock looked amazing but they only had one portion left so one member had to pick something else. Most of us had mac and cheese, and I have to say it was one of the most disappointing I've ever had. Hardly any sauce so it was very dry. I wondered if they had just sprinkled cheese through the cooked pasta rather than making a cheese sauce. I felt quite embarrassed given I had recommended the restaurant.

A quaint and charming pub full of history, fine food, and an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Inside seating is limited, but there are several covered tables outside. While there are a few seats at the bar, like most places I’ve been (this is my first time in Scotland.), you don’t eat there. The bar area is for drinking. When you’re ready to eat, you sit at one of the tables, close enough to your neighbors to enjoy a conversation. I had two starters and highly recommend them both: the haggis croquettes, and the wings. And of course, a pint. The croquettes had all the earthy flavors you’d expect from haggis, and are quickly deep fried. The wings were unlike any I’ve had in the states. No Frank’s hot sauce here, just an unusual and flavorful dry rub, cooked to perfection. A woman at a neighboring table had both a gluten and dairy allergy, and they were able to accommodate her. Check this place out, you won’t regret it, and will leave with a full belly and great memories.

The local golf course where my mum lives. A nice little 9 hole course and a digital driving range, where the balls are a bit expensive, but the computer options make for a lot of fun & also good practice information too. Bar seems a little expensive too, but friendly, pleasant staff & good food though. Would definitely recommend.

Do not make any requests, or you will be met with an intimidating stare and a passive/aggressive response. It made our stay quite difficult, but we stuck it out as it was peak season at the time. Also, our room more suited to a single bed category - with a double bed squeezed into it, there was barely enough room to move along one side of the bed and around the end of the bed, as it was so close to the wall on two sides. There are plenty of other good B&B's in the area who will be glad to welcome you.
