Good nights sleep - quiet, comfy bed, lashings of hot water. Lovely staff, good food. Not stylish or up to date, back a practical, pleasant choice. Welcoming.

Amazing staff, food and they let us stay overnight in there carpark in our campervan.

Lovely meal, friendly owners and staff

Our tour group was booked in at this pub/hotel restaurant for a buffet/sandwich lunch. There appeared to be an initial issue in catering for dietary requirements for some members of our party, but this was overcome with some basic alternatives. The sandwiches were generally good, but service was limited, possibly due to the food etc. being pre-prepared. Gained impression that we were viewed as a "transaction". Our overall experience as part of a group would not encourage us to revisit as individuals.

The rooms were as expected, not huge but clean with comfortable beds and an in-room bathroom. We spent one night here on our trip around the NC500. I'm very reluctant to give negative reviews, but dinner was a disaster in parts. The stew was delicious, but the bacon cheese burger was a complete disgrace. I've never had such a tough burger patty, bacon was more like ham. No toppings on the burger, neither cucumbers, tomatoes, onions - even sauces were missing. I ate worlds better at Burger King two days ago. Too bad.

Room was bijou, but clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant and at breakfast was excellent and staff were friendly and chatty.

Amazing service from all the staff. My dog was treated like royalty. We had dinner and breakfast there, both were vary good and tasty. Our car was next to our window, so was able to see it at all times that gave us sense of security. Location was perfect and just what we needed. Thank you!

Budget hotel but adequate for a one night stay. Room was small but clean. Ate in the restaurant and the evening meal was good value for money. Breakfast was a not quite as good but again, adequate. Can't fault the hotel based on the amount paid. Excellent value for money

Skip john o Groats in general. Also, the restaurant had the worst burger I ever had. We slept in the pods, as far as the mattress allowed us to sleep that is.

Superb food! Group of seven, we had a mix off of starters and mains off of their lovely varied menu, and thought it would be OK, but absolutely surpassed our expectations; everyone bar none thoroughly enjoyed both starters and mains! Scallops and Cullen Skink were outstanding.. haddock and chips, superb! Lamb flatbread amazing! Highly recommend this place.

Despite reservation no table. We were seated at a table of 2 for 3 people after a double booking by the waitress. Absolutely lousy service or better no service at all.

Great 2 nights stay after our long walk to JOG. Food is very tasty. All 3 meals were great. Starters and mains. Staff are helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.

I had the chicken haggis and whiskey sauce beautiful would Come here again portion size were big too Friend had steak pie and that looked the best meal lots of meat too !

We were only there to eat because no other restaurant in the area was open. The food was okay, but the service staff was really bad. Although the restaurant only had 6 other guests and 3 people on duty, after waiting 20 minutes we went to the back of the bar to order, where the three of them were just standing around. After another eternity of waiting, the food was served to us lukewarm (it had probably been ready for collection in the kitchen for a while) and unfriendly.

Rather small rooms, very friendly staff and service, good location in the far north-east of Scotland

Good food and a great atmosphere

Garlic mushrooms were the best! Plenty of meat in the beef and ale pie, mash was okay and peas and carrots. Hubby said the fish and chips was really good. Good portions. Good selection of whiskeys. Decor looks fresh and clean.

What a lovely place, friendly and helpful staff. Good quality food at a reasonable price and a nice relaxing atmosphere. Couldn't ask for anything more, well worth a visit.

Das Essen war ok aber nichts besonderes, Lachs mit einfachen Nudeln aus der Tüte; kleine Fischportion. Preise ok. Schlecht war leider die Bedienung. Wir waren im 19:40 da Essen sollte man bis 20:00 bestellen ; das wollten wir sofort machen wir bekamen die Speisekarte aber erst später da wollten wir wieder sofort bestellen ging nicht da erst die Bestellung vom Nachbartisch aufgenommen werden musste. Schließlich um 20:05 kam wieder jemand und wollte keine Bestellung annehmen und wir konnten erst nach eindringlicher Erklärung doch noch bestellen

Called in looking for a after noon meal . All other local places were closed. Meal and service were brilliant. The local battered haddock was brilliant Do not be put of by appearance.

De kamers zijn erg verouderd en zeker niet groot Ik had het gevoel in een jaren 70 motel terecht gekomen te zijn. Maar alles is wel schoon en de service van het personeel maakte veel goed. Helaas merkten we dat niet alles meer op voorraad was, wat ik begrijp ivm de locatie, maar wel vreemd vind aan het begin van het seizoen.

Amazing Food & Staff, they all care & work very hard to please. It's the staff that add so much value to this busy hotel & bar. It's a must for a breakfast, a bite to eat or a wee dram. Enjoy! Excellent location 300 meters from the land's end, the central point of the town from where you can admire the coast and its wonders and from where various routes start until you reach panoramic points. The hotel, although a little old, offers good hospitality, food and courteous staff that will make you love your stay. Breakfast is good, dinner excellent

We stayed here at the end of our Inverness to John o’ Groats walk and had a good stay with a great breakfast (cooked and continental options). The bar/restaurant area had a great atmosphere and the staff were brilliant. The rooms are a little dated but this did not distract from the stay and we slept well.

Typical pub in the middle of nowhere! Very warm welcome, really very nice waiter, very old-fashioned decor, it's true but authentic. Very lively meeting and discussion place despite being in the middle of nowhere! Simple and decent meal, not haute cuisine but it was good and plentiful. The prices are more than competitive!

This hotel is very run down...the carpet in the rooms and in the bar looks filthy....we paid less for better rooms during our trip on the NC500....105£for a night is way too much.Breakfast was good.Close to Dunscaby stacks

So nice! The staff were lovely, we had originally planned to stay at the campsite but out tent was not strong enough for the weather so we had to pivot, luckily the Seaview still had a room! The staff were super helpful, the room was really nice and the breakfast that was included in our room was super yummy! ☺️ All in all, great place!

Rustic house, quaint pub, nice staff. Only pub open until 10pm. Kitchen until 8 p.m. With a chance there is freshly caught fish. Breakfast is typically Scottish. I'm feeling wanderlust again while I'm writing 😉

Food was awesome we went two nights in a row. Ordered fish and chips, beef pie, pasta, and few deserts the 2 times we went and all was awesome.

We grabbed a bite to eat and a beer here while camping nearby. Couldn't fault the service. Choice of vegan options was limited to a burger, but it was a very good burger served with a generous portion of chips. 5 stars because it's the little extra touches that make something excellent. And it was the fennel in the salad that won it for us!

Both hostesses were extremely helpful and friendly. Our food came out quickly. We ordered the fish and chips as well as the steak and ale pie. Both were delicious! We also got a sticky toffee pudding for takeaway. Would go again 🙂

The staff at this hotel are genuinely very nice and helpful. The evening meal was good. Whilst the bar was busy, it had some atmosphere. The room however was at best, basic. The ensuite bathroom was a converted cupboard, nothing more. It was not a double room. Carpets were old and needed replacing. The TV did not work and remote was broken. Tap in the 'ensuite' kept running. All in all, a little underwhelming I am afraid.

The food was exceptionally good, the staff was very accommodating. I've never eaten such good salmon before!!

Perfect location to stop off at when doing the NC500. Really friendly people, owners and employees alike. Sea views out of Room 1 with double aspect picture windows are amazing. Food is excellent and prices good too. Rooms are comfortable for a 3* hotel.

What a lovely pub. Cosy. Welcoming. If your are travelling in a campervan and need somewhere sheltered for the night you can drink/eat in the pub in exchange for a spot round the back. Please ask inside first though.

The hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff were fantastic and helpful. We were a large group that were simply spending the night to catch the early ferry Orkney.

Stayed here for one night while doing NC500, rooms are very basic for the price charged. There was mould in the bathroom, and the seal had gone on the shower head which meant water was going everywhere. It’s a very noisy hotel, We were also overcharged for the room, which i have emailed them about.

Absolutly great spot parked overnight in the moterhome . Fab food . I had scallops to start prawn linguini for main .Hubby had fillet steak & peppercorn sauce all the trimmings . Because I'm greedy 😅I had a chocolate brownie sundae. Staff amazing really friendly accommodating. Def be back 👏

So, we arrived at 2 pm to enquire if our room was ready. Was informed it was( lovely) and it was all paid up. Apparently my debit card had had the money taken out of it at 11 am that morning. I understood that a card was given as a quarantee for payment and the website clearly says no need to prepay, you Pay at the hotel! My friend was going to pay at the hotel and it was not supposed to come out of this card so all very embarrassing and seemed too difficult for the staff to reimburse and re charge to the name on the booking! So beware, if you give your card details, it will be debited hours before you check in! Had a meal in the bar, ours was very nice but too many orders taken at the same time, poor chef, no wonder there were complaints . Staff run ragged but when it all calmed down at 7 pm more staff turned up?!

We were seated in the bar area for our prebooked table. The bar had loud music playing, "singing" shouting, and generally very raucous and drunken customers. I enjoy a ceiligh or karaoke but this was something else, the swearing etc was intimidating. We were hoping for a lovely leisurely meal after a day travelling. But we ate quickly and left

Veniamo accolti da un gentilissimo cliente abituale che ci rutta virtuosamente in faccia. Questo ci ha dissuaso dall'entrare? No, è l'unico locale per cenare in paese! Nel corso della cena, viste le lunghe tempistiche, ci vengono proposte delle scene tragicomiche: fumo per la sala fino all'attivazione dell'allarme antincendio; posate cadute sulla moquette e calciate fino al bancone dal personale; cibo non male, ad eccezione del salmone. Personale comunque gentile e prezzi ok

La sera in cui siamo stati a John O'Groats era l'unico locale dove si potesse cenare dopo le 5 pm. All'esterno è un tantinello troppo trascurato, da ispirare pensieri alla lasciate ogni speranza o voi che entrate, fortunatamente all'interno le cose sono un filo migliorate e la sala da pranzo era spoglia, povera ma pulita e alla fine accogliente (peccato per il rumore). Il menù era in linea con le aspettative, forse meno il cibo. La zuppa di Haddok era grassissima tanto da sembrare, pesce patate e panna. Il fish and chips da pub ma molto abbondante, mentre il riso al curry con il pesce affumicato se non fosse stato stracotto avrebbe potuto dire la sua. In fin dei conti cucina media se non bassetta, ma ci ha salvato la serata.

The starters were ok, however the scallops were not cooked as well as we have eaten at other places. The homemade fish pie was reasonably tasty, but the prawn linguine was AWFUL! So bland - no sauce to it just pasta water. Heard from the locals that it’s changed hands and the head chef unfortunately doesn’t have the cooking experience. Absolutely terrible. Will not be back and would not recommend

Hotel has changed ownership and two thirds of their whisky selection have gone although still reasonable coverage. 30 minutes after sitting down at our reserved table we still hadn’t been served so I had to go to the bar to remind them we were there … Later I ordered a distillers choice numbered bottle gin and as there wasn’t a full double the manager opened another bottle. Despite me telling them it was a different gin from the same maker (a standard bottle) they still mixed it and insisted it was the same. Demonstrates a lack of training and understanding of staff.

Went for take away fish and chips ,they used to be fabulous but now since it is run by someone else they are scandalous! Minute portions and higher price .Will definitely never go again

We stayed in their car park free in our motor home but booked to eat in the restaurant. Great choice of meals, nicely cooked and presented. Really friendly helpful staff. Great spot if up at the top of Scotland. Fantastic choice of whiskies and good real ales.

the locstion was great to walk to go on island tour. We enjoyed our meals, both breakfast and dinner. Found the staff to be excellent. The rooms are OK as we wernt expecting 5 star

What a fabulous place. The service is delightful.the goats cheese starter was superb. Fish and chips were huge and tasty. Loved it. First meal out since lockdown and it was welcome.

I went with my Mother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law and my two boys for lunch. The staff were very welcoming and food was lovely. Menu and specials was great and plenty to choose from. Portion sizes were generous. Can't wait to return when I'm back up in July.

Came with my Hubby to celebrate our Anniversary which is shared by my sister and her Hubby :)It was okay, not a lot of options for Vegans, they also don't cook the chips separately, so not even good for vegetarians. I did call ahead and asked if they catered for Vegans and they said yes. But they really don't have a good choice. They have Veg Curry, Veggie Burger and Chips and offered a stir fry but didn't have it. I opted for a safe option of jacket potato and salad without butter, to my surprise he really did a good job, it looked and tasted lovely, with a dressing SVF so not bad in the end. My sister had the Veggie Burger and Salad but was worried about how they cooked it in the end, we didn't want to ask as we had already asked alot of questions with mine :)Very Friendly and Caring Waitresses.

The welcome and service were good, with friendly and helpful staff. The menu offers a reasonable choice, especially if the 'specials' menu is taken into account, but this does not change daily (we ate at this hotel on two evenings in late July 2020). The value is about average for the standard of food offered. The big 'let down' is the quality of the vegetables served. With a little more effort far more imaginative and varied vegetables could be served, even if they were sourced from Lidls! The actual main core of the meals we had were good (fish pie on one evening and 'Mey' Fillet steak on the other), and the starters were also of a good quality. The wine by the glass was mediocre and a bit over priced.

We have been on holiday several times in this area and always pay a visit for a meal here. Never been disappointed. Good value for money. Friendly staff and locals. Dogs welcome.

This place is not posh but is so warm and friendly. Short walk from the ferry. Wide choice of gins and whisky plus some real ales from the local brewery. There’s cocktails as well. The menu is not extensive but there’s a fair choice and it’s really good stuff

The Seaview Hotel is a pleasant place to eat at John o'Groats, and is perhaps the only place to have an evening meal in the winter months. The staff are friendly, and the service was good and prompt when I visited, but it was not at all busy. The menu is generally bar food which you would find at most places, with some locally sourced food included. It is reasonably priced, but nothing out of the ordinary. There are also 'specials' displayed on screens in the bar, which was not pointed out to me when I ordered food at the bar as I arrived. The bar has a good selection of whiskeys and beers (including local beers).

Visited for a meal. Got chatting to locals in the bar - very friendly folk. Varied menu. Both pleased with our choices. He had fish and chips and I had salmon fillet with a sauce and veg. Good to get 3 different veg and good portions - red cabbage, corn and carrots - my favourites. Reasonable price and pleasant service.

We always stop here on our way home to Orkney and it is a highlight of our holiday. The staff are helpful and friendly, the rooms clean and spacious and the food is, wonderful.

Headed here for our dinner after arriving at JOG and as the place was busy with the cyclist event we were fortunate to get a table.We were served by pleasant staff and both of us had the fish which was huge in size and delicious to taste.Glad we went and would recommend anybody to go.

You are very limited at John O'Groats with places to eat when you are staying in a B & B as we were, so you could say the Seaview has the monopoly. I have to say though we ate there on 2 nights and the food was exceptionally good, in fact very generous with portions. I would definitely recommend but make sure you do not eat too much in the day.

Service was terrible, was greeted by a miserable sad boy who did our table, hardly came back to check on us. The dinner was awful, partner ordered chicken highlander which tasted like dog food, my chicken tikka masala was not that great tasted like it came out of a tin along with far too much rice. Enough to feed a family of 5. Only upside my sons dinner of fish and chips looked fresh and he enjoyed that. Overall do not recommend this place.

Abbiamo cenato nella sala bar ed è stato piacevole. Le materie prime sono buone e i piatti abbondanti. Birre ottime e al banco mi hanno anche gentilmente consigliato nonostante il locale fosse pieno. Cameriere attente e servizio alla giusta velocità. Rispetto al resto del Regno Unito: Cani ammessi e nessun problema a entrare coi bambini. Menù ampio a base di pesce e hamburger. Buone le salse di accompagnamento. Pomodori ciliegina dell’insalata sicuramente da evitare; in cucina consiglio di usare classici pomodori!Prezzo giusto, ma non tra i più economici: 2 starters e 4 main courses e due birre 74 sterline. Bar frequentato soprattutto da locali sia per bere che per mangiare. Immensa selezione di whisky e gin al giusto prezzo.

We stayed in house and were given a table in the back corner without a cloth brcause we failed to make a booking.

Visited here with friends who live nearby and enjoyed our meal tremendously. It was also nice to meet some of the other local folks! I had the cold salmon salad, which was ample and delicious. My husband had the baked haddock, which he also enjoyed. This is a great option in this small settlement in the northwestern most corner of Scotland. Make sure to try some of the local guns, like Rock Rose, and whiskey, like Old Pulteney.

Have eaten at this hotel many times and have always been happy with my meals. The menu is varied and local produce is always available.

What a fantastic place for a bar meal!

As it is one of the few restaurants in John O'Groats, we decided to go there to have dinner. As a starter I got the nacho chips. Because they used regular cheese, it shortly became a solid block, which made eating the chips rather difficult and unpleasant. We ordered the "home made" lasagna for the main course, which was a huge disappointment. Just a meaty bolognese, a layer of pasta and cheese on top is not a lasagna. Nothing on the plate seemed to be fresh, more like it was out of a can and briefly warmed up.
