Seaview in Highland

We grabbed a bite to eat and a beer here while camping nearby. Couldn't fault the service. Choice of vegan options was limited to a burger, but it was a very good burger served with a generous portion of chips. 5 stars because it's the little extra touches that make something excellent. And it was the fennel in the salad that won it for us!

Both hostesses were extremely helpful and friendly. Our food came out quickly. We ordered the fish and chips as well as the steak and ale pie. Both were delicious! We also got a sticky toffee pudding for takeaway. Would go again 🙂

The staff at this hotel are genuinely very nice and helpful. The evening meal was good. Whilst the bar was busy, it had some atmosphere. The room however was at best, basic. The ensuite bathroom was a converted cupboard, nothing more. It was not a double room. Carpets were old and needed replacing. The TV did not work and remote was broken. Tap in the 'ensuite' kept running. All in all, a little underwhelming I am afraid.

The food was exceptionally good, the staff was very accommodating. I've never eaten such good salmon before!!

Perfect location to stop off at when doing the NC500. Really friendly people, owners and employees alike. Sea views out of Room 1 with double aspect picture windows are amazing. Food is excellent and prices good too. Rooms are comfortable for a 3* hotel.

What a lovely pub. Cosy. Welcoming. If your are travelling in a campervan and need somewhere sheltered for the night you can drink/eat in the pub in exchange for a spot round the back. Please ask inside first though.

The hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff were fantastic and helpful. We were a large group that were simply spending the night to catch the early ferry Orkney.

Absolutly great spot parked overnight in the moterhome . Fab food . I had scallops to start prawn linguini for main .Hubby had fillet steak & peppercorn sauce all the trimmings . Because I'm greedy 😅I had a chocolate brownie sundae. Staff amazing really friendly accommodating. Def be back 👏

Stayed here for one night while doing NC500, rooms are very basic for the price charged. There was mould in the bathroom, and the seal had gone on the shower head which meant water was going everywhere. It’s a very noisy hotel, We were also overcharged for the room, which i have emailed them about.

So, we arrived at 2 pm to enquire if our room was ready. Was informed it was( lovely) and it was all paid up. Apparently my debit card had had the money taken out of it at 11 am that morning. I understood that a card was given as a quarantee for payment and the website clearly says no need to prepay, you Pay at the hotel! My friend was going to pay at the hotel and it was not supposed to come out of this card so all very embarrassing and seemed too difficult for the staff to reimburse and re charge to the name on the booking! So beware, if you give your card details, it will be debited hours before you check in! Had a meal in the bar, ours was very nice but too many orders taken at the same time, poor chef, no wonder there were complaints . Staff run ragged but when it all calmed down at 7 pm more staff turned up?!

We were seated in the bar area for our prebooked table. The bar had loud music playing, "singing" shouting, and generally very raucous and drunken customers. I enjoy a ceiligh or karaoke but this was something else, the swearing etc was intimidating. We were hoping for a lovely leisurely meal after a day travelling. But we ate quickly and left

La sera in cui siamo stati a John O'Groats era l'unico locale dove si potesse cenare dopo le 5 pm. All'esterno è un tantinello troppo trascurato, da ispirare pensieri alla lasciate ogni speranza o voi che entrate, fortunatamente all'interno le cose sono un filo migliorate e la sala da pranzo era spoglia, povera ma pulita e alla fine accogliente (peccato per il rumore). Il menù era in linea con le aspettative, forse meno il cibo. La zuppa di Haddok era grassissima tanto da sembrare, pesce patate e panna. Il fish and chips da pub ma molto abbondante, mentre il riso al curry con il pesce affumicato se non fosse stato stracotto avrebbe potuto dire la sua. In fin dei conti cucina media se non bassetta, ma ci ha salvato la serata.

The starters were ok, however the scallops were not cooked as well as we have eaten at other places. The homemade fish pie was reasonably tasty, but the prawn linguine was AWFUL! So bland - no sauce to it just pasta water. Heard from the locals that it’s changed hands and the head chef unfortunately doesn’t have the cooking experience. Absolutely terrible. Will not be back and would not recommend

Hotel has changed ownership and two thirds of their whisky selection have gone although still reasonable coverage. 30 minutes after sitting down at our reserved table we still hadn’t been served so I had to go to the bar to remind them we were there … Later I ordered a distillers choice numbered bottle gin and as there wasn’t a full double the manager opened another bottle. Despite me telling them it was a different gin from the same maker (a standard bottle) they still mixed it and insisted it was the same. Demonstrates a lack of training and understanding of staff.

Went for take away fish and chips ,they used to be fabulous but now since it is run by someone else they are scandalous! Minute portions and higher price .Will definitely never go again

We stayed in their car park free in our motor home but booked to eat in the restaurant. Great choice of meals, nicely cooked and presented. Really friendly helpful staff. Great spot if up at the top of Scotland. Fantastic choice of whiskies and good real ales.

I went with my Mother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law and my two boys for lunch. The staff were very welcoming and food was lovely. Menu and specials was great and plenty to choose from. Portion sizes were generous. Can't wait to return when I'm back up in July.

Came with my Hubby to celebrate our Anniversary which is shared by my sister and her Hubby :)It was okay, not a lot of options for Vegans, they also don't cook the chips separately, so not even good for vegetarians. I did call ahead and asked if they catered for Vegans and they said yes. But they really don't have a good choice. They have Veg Curry, Veggie Burger and Chips and offered a stir fry but didn't have it. I opted for a safe option of jacket potato and salad without butter, to my surprise he really did a good job, it looked and tasted lovely, with a dressing SVF so not bad in the end. My sister had the Veggie Burger and Salad but was worried about how they cooked it in the end, we didn't want to ask as we had already asked alot of questions with mine :)Very Friendly and Caring Waitresses.

The welcome and service were good, with friendly and helpful staff. The menu offers a reasonable choice, especially if the 'specials' menu is taken into account, but this does not change daily (we ate at this hotel on two evenings in late July 2020). The value is about average for the standard of food offered. The big 'let down' is the quality of the vegetables served. With a little more effort far more imaginative and varied vegetables could be served, even if they were sourced from Lidls! The actual main core of the meals we had were good (fish pie on one evening and 'Mey' Fillet steak on the other), and the starters were also of a good quality. The wine by the glass was mediocre and a bit over priced.

We have been on holiday several times in this area and always pay a visit for a meal here. Never been disappointed. Good value for money. Friendly staff and locals. Dogs welcome.

This place is not posh but is so warm and friendly. Short walk from the ferry. Wide choice of gins and whisky plus some real ales from the local brewery. There’s cocktails as well. The menu is not extensive but there’s a fair choice and it’s really good stuff

The Seaview Hotel is a pleasant place to eat at John o'Groats, and is perhaps the only place to have an evening meal in the winter months. The staff are friendly, and the service was good and prompt when I visited, but it was not at all busy. The menu is generally bar food which you would find at most places, with some locally sourced food included. It is reasonably priced, but nothing out of the ordinary. There are also 'specials' displayed on screens in the bar, which was not pointed out to me when I ordered food at the bar as I arrived. The bar has a good selection of whiskeys and beers (including local beers).

Visited for a meal. Got chatting to locals in the bar - very friendly folk. Varied menu. Both pleased with our choices. He had fish and chips and I had salmon fillet with a sauce and veg. Good to get 3 different veg and good portions - red cabbage, corn and carrots - my favourites. Reasonable price and pleasant service.

We always stop here on our way home to Orkney and it is a highlight of our holiday. The staff are helpful and friendly, the rooms clean and spacious and the food is, wonderful.

Headed here for our dinner after arriving at JOG and as the place was busy with the cyclist event we were fortunate to get a table.We were served by pleasant staff and both of us had the fish which was huge in size and delicious to taste.Glad we went and would recommend anybody to go.

You are very limited at John O'Groats with places to eat when you are staying in a B & B as we were, so you could say the Seaview has the monopoly. I have to say though we ate there on 2 nights and the food was exceptionally good, in fact very generous with portions. I would definitely recommend but make sure you do not eat too much in the day.

Service was terrible, was greeted by a miserable sad boy who did our table, hardly came back to check on us. The dinner was awful, partner ordered chicken highlander which tasted like dog food, my chicken tikka masala was not that great tasted like it came out of a tin along with far too much rice. Enough to feed a family of 5. Only upside my sons dinner of fish and chips looked fresh and he enjoyed that. Overall do not recommend this place.

Abbiamo cenato nella sala bar ed è stato piacevole. Le materie prime sono buone e i piatti abbondanti. Birre ottime e al banco mi hanno anche gentilmente consigliato nonostante il locale fosse pieno. Cameriere attente e servizio alla giusta velocità. Rispetto al resto del Regno Unito: Cani ammessi e nessun problema a entrare coi bambini. Menù ampio a base di pesce e hamburger. Buone le salse di accompagnamento. Pomodori ciliegina dell’insalata sicuramente da evitare; in cucina consiglio di usare classici pomodori!Prezzo giusto, ma non tra i più economici: 2 starters e 4 main courses e due birre 74 sterline. Bar frequentato soprattutto da locali sia per bere che per mangiare. Immensa selezione di whisky e gin al giusto prezzo.

We stayed in house and were given a table in the back corner without a cloth brcause we failed to make a booking.

Visited here with friends who live nearby and enjoyed our meal tremendously. It was also nice to meet some of the other local folks! I had the cold salmon salad, which was ample and delicious. My husband had the baked haddock, which he also enjoyed. This is a great option in this small settlement in the northwestern most corner of Scotland. Make sure to try some of the local guns, like Rock Rose, and whiskey, like Old Pulteney.

Have eaten at this hotel many times and have always been happy with my meals. The menu is varied and local produce is always available.

What a fantastic place for a bar meal!

As it is one of the few restaurants in John O'Groats, we decided to go there to have dinner. As a starter I got the nacho chips. Because they used regular cheese, it shortly became a solid block, which made eating the chips rather difficult and unpleasant. We ordered the "home made" lasagna for the main course, which was a huge disappointment. Just a meaty bolognese, a layer of pasta and cheese on top is not a lasagna. Nothing on the plate seemed to be fresh, more like it was out of a can and briefly warmed up.

Nous avons mangé dans la partie pub du restaurant. Les plats étaient très bons et le service rapide. Pas grand chose d autres dans les environs, mais cela n est pas grave car on y mange très bien.

Ci abbiamo cenato un paio di sere, essendo alloggiati nell’hotel. Nei dintorni non c’è una grande scelta. Sempre cercando con attenzione e disperazione nel loro menù, per non farci male. Buona la birra e in entrambe le cene ci siamo orientati sul pescato, pregandoli di evitare creme e cremine e intrugli vari. E in parte ci siamo riusciti. Il pesce, se è fresco, è buono. Scarsa la pulizia, si cena sempre sulla solita tovaglia che ha visto ben altri commensali e sulla quale gli addetti passano un cencio per dare una ripulita. Non ci si innamora del posto. Buona la scelta dei whisky al bar, anche se un pò cari.

Pas trop le choix dans "le coin" pour le dîner. Le Seaview est cependant une bonne adresse. La carte est variée et les plats savoureux et copieux. Ne pas hésiter à réserver, surtout le week-end en période touristique. Demander la table "panoramique" au fond de la salle si vous êtes un petit groupe (6 par exemple). Ristorante sopra la media, soprattutto per le specialità del giorno. Ho cenato 2 sere consecutive e sono rimasto abbastanza soddisfatto, sia per la scelta che per la qualità dei piatti serviti. Buona anche la scelta di vino e birra.

After a long day decided on not cooking and going for a family meal out. Went to the Seaview on spec and had a lovely meal Hero burgers for us and Chicken fillets for our daughter. My wife asked if they had any other rolls as doesn’t like sesame ones so had hers on a panini very enjoyable, staff very friendly and helpful will definitely go again.

Having just arrived at a b&b; ten miles away we asked where we could eat locally, directed towards John O'Groates we came across The Seaview Hotel. Alot of cars parked outside so we expected it to be busy, We asked if a table for two was available and we were shown to the dining room, a lovely spacious room and we were given menus and ordered drinks. We ordered the Steak and Ale Pie, which came very quickly, was very hot and tasty and a full plateful, we were tempted by desserts and again these did not disappoint. A reasonable price for good honest food.

Breakfast was included with our hotel stay, and it was very good. We also enjoyed a delicious supper there and were thoroughly pleased with the food and the service. In fact, my husband rated the scallops at the Seaview as the best he had during our entire two week trip to Scotland. We would definitely recommend the Seaview Hotel for lodging and food.

Good staff showing a wide range menu. Starters, salads, main courses, children menu, sandwiches. Both dinners were great — smoked salmon first night and streak pie second night.

Had an early dinner in the bar which was full and had a nice buzzy atmosphere by the time we left. Of all the places I had fish and chips in Scotland - and there were many - the Seaview was the only one to offer cod (on specially, locally caught) vs haddock. It was delicious! Enjoyed a nice cider and a Glayva (whisky based liquor).

The restaurant was recommended by the people at the B&B; we stayed at, and we found out why! Dinner was lovely – very high quality food, locally sourced, and delightfully cooked.

Nice relaxed atmosphere. Seems to be locals and a few workmen and travellers like us. I had a lovely Lasagne which came with a salad, coleslaw AND chips for about a tenner. Really nice meal and friendly staff. Pool table to. Definitely worth a visit!

My wife and I like to tour Scotland and last month we ended up in John o’Groats and had lunch in this excellent restaurant. We both had the scallops which were well prepared and served by friendly and very competent staff. Their prices are very reasonable. Should you be touring or vacationing in the Northern most part of the Scottish mainland, l recommend that you dine in this first class restaurant.

It is mostly basic grub, but tasted great and at a reasonable price. The specials looked interesting and included red pudding.

My friend and I visited John O'Groats and stayed at this lovely hotel which is two minutes from the little harbour and Puffin Croft which is just around the corner.

My partner and I arrived at John o'Groats as part of our NC500 trip. The guide books spoke of good places to eat near the John o'Groats sign. However, when we arrived out of season on a Monday in mid October, we found only a couple of coffee shops open, charging around £7 for a very limited range of sandwiches.

Spouse had the scallops for dinner two nights and loved them so much he also had them for an appetizer just before his second dinner of scallops. Fabulous and excellent are the words he used. I had the steak & ale pie the first night and the John O’ Groats Fish pie the second night. Both were very good. Both came with either mashed potatoes or chips. I chose potatoes which were just that. Just a potato with no spices, no butter, nothing. In fact, I got a little smirk from the waitress when I asked for butter. Yes, we Americans like butter on our smashed potatoes. The blah side dishes is why this is a very good and not an excellent rating. We shared the salted caramel and fudge sundae (suspiciously lacking any fudge or chocolate AT ALL) one night and it was very good. It would have been better with the fudge. We would eat there often if we lived there. I would bring my own butter. And sour cream.

This place has a takeaway menu as well as the bar and restaurant ones. We had a fish & chips takeaway when we found the Cabin and the other eateries at John O'Groats all closed after 5pm.

We were pleasantly surprised by the Seaview Hotel at John O'Groats. The accomodation was great (WiFi a little dodgy), Staff was helpful and the meals were good value and tasty. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Busy restaurant and plenty of choice on the menu. Not a cosy place, quite a large room with plenty of tables. We did book and therefore seemed to be allocated a nice table.

La cena fue exquisita, cenamos salmón y estaba muy fresco y bien cocinado, el pub es muy animado con una variedad de cervezas amplia.

Schade schade, bisher haben wir recht gut gegessen in Schottland. Doch hier im Norden scheint das Kochen nicht erfunden worden zu sein.

Abbiamo cenato qui per due sere me tre alloggiavamo al Seaview. Abbiamo provato sia gli antipasti sia i piatti e la qualità è sempre stata ottima: pesce molto fresco e fritture leggere. I main sono spesso serviti con salse come tipico in UK, ma nessun piatto e mai risultato pesante. Solo molto gustoso. Ottimi anche i contorni. Peccato che i prezzi non siamo proprio economici ma la zona è abbastanza turistica data la vicinanza al traghetto per le Orcadi.
