The Cairngorm Hotel in Highland

Have been here a few times over the years whilst in Aviemore and the food has been consistently good. Plenty choice and great that they have a seniors portion which is adequate for those eligible. The only recommendation I would make is for the seniors portion to be made available for those of us with a smaller appetite under 60. Good selection of drinks and reasonably priced. Staff very friendly. Will definitely return.

Made extremely welcome. Great friendly staff. Superb well priced menu. Open for meals all day. The best restaurant food in Aviemore. Free car park.

Tried to have dinner here on two occasions. We were told we had to be there before 21:00 on the first night, so we were turned away at 21:00 The second night we arrived just after 20:45 and were turned away again saying that’s when they shut. THIS WAS A SATURDAY NIGHT. I know aviemore is a sleepy town but don’t lie to clients as we were left hungry

Excellent food and great service. We’ve been eating here over the years and it’s consistently good. The menu doesn’t change but that maybe tells its own story. Are here a few times over a week in Aviemore. Sometimes there’s a wait (chance to enjoy a drink in the bar) but it’s worth it. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Aviemore. Cheesecake is awesome!

Fantastic meal at The Cairngorm Hotel today, my parents had the senior citizens 3 course meal which is unbelievable value and I had the Cairn burger. Superb food, and the staff are absolutely on it!!! Polite, super efficient and quick. Couldn't fault it and the staff were absolutely bossing it.

This was a great place to stay in the heart of Aviemore which allowed easy access to all the shops and attractions by walking. Its beautifully decorated in Scottish style with a nice Pub and Restaurant on site. The room we had was small but functioned perfectly for our needs. We ate at the restaurant twice including the free breakfast which was very good with lots of choices and great service! Would not hesitate to stay here again as it felt like traditional Scotland!

A lovely and charming hotel. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, and the restaurant staff were efficient and helpful. This hotel has the old world touches that make the Highlands special, yet meets all the needs of a modern traveler.

Popped in for a drink whilst rugby was on.

Called in past on our way up from Glasgow for a meal , really friendly welcome , had to wait a short time for a table, but was handed a buzzer and sat by the fire until it became available . Great food , fresh, hot and tasty , served by a really lovely, cheerful waitress called Olivia .

Stopped for a spot of lunch on our way to Fort William. This is always our go to. Service was good. Staff are friendly. However, the sandwich is now served on a very thick white bread. The filling was lovely but the bread takes over. I think a thinner slice and a choice of white or brown would be better.

Was in for drink and asked about food. Unfortunately found the woman I spoke to a bit rude

Such a shame but I really have to say nothing about our experience here was good. We aren’t overly fussy folk and I work in hospitality so I know every place can have an off day but this was just really really poor. We knew we would be arriving in Avimore late, I phoned earlier on in the evening to check what time last orders were (9pm was confirmed). We arrived at 8:45pm, I know it’s rubbish when people arrive so close to last orders so I went in by myself to double check they wanted to take our table (3 of us). No problem, in we go. The younger servers were polite and friendly, gave our menus and reminded us that we would need to get our orders in asap - totally fair. It’s a decent sized menu and I was trying to negotiate with our tired, hungry, grumpy 5 year old what she wanted as fast as I could. Younger came to take our order and I apologised and said we needed 2mins. Next an abrupt male server stormed over, I can’t remember his exact words but very close to ‘what are you having’, no ‘hello’, no small polite usual ‘evening, thank you, no worries’ chat of waiting staff, he writes it down the order, whipped our menus away and stormed off. It was really awkward. There were 2 other tables still in drinking happily. Our food arrived so fast, like impossibly fast. Staff started setting up for the next day (presumably breakfast). The other 2 tables got the hint and left. I had mince and tatties, it was tasty enough. Fair salty but whatever I enjoyed it. Husbands was cold, hot in patches - a dodgy microwave job. His gravy was hot so that helped things but inside his veggies, potatoes etc was cold to touch kinda cold. We were hungry and already felt uncomfortable we just wanted to eat and get out. No one came near to check on us, maybe they knew it was poor? Staff were busy setting tables. When we were done we started gathering our coats to make it obvious we were on the move. The rude waiter guy asked if we wanted our bill, he didn’t move from the spot across the room. I said ‘oh yeah please - wasn’t sure where is best to pay, here or reception?’. He just turned his back to me, got the bill and set it beside himself, he then started typing into the card machine our total. I hadn’t seen the bill or been asked how our food was. I had wanted to say about husbands gold food and our weird neon soggy ‘garlic’ bread but a card machine was fired in front of me as I walked over to him so I just paid and asked for our receipt. I was handed a card receipt, so I asked again could I have our receipt with the brake down on it - it was handed to me and only then did grumpy waiter guy turn nice. And wish us a good evening. We were in a total of 45mins. It wasn’t expensive but still £50odd I regretted spending. So in conclusion grumpy waiter guy needs an attitude check and ‘chef’ needs to have some care as to what’s getting served. P.s. the kids macaroni was strange, it tasted of pure double cream - pasta with thick cream. Wee one ate it but I was very glad I hadn’t ordered the macaroni!

This was the best meal we had in Aviemore. Not cheap,but nothing is in this tourist town. This was our second and likely last visit to Aviemore, we were just left with the feeling that every place had their hand in your pocket. Think cafeteria food at 4 star prices. This place though had nice food and the staff serving were really amazing. We almost didn't eat there due a to a very surly maitre'd on our first attempt, but, I'm glad we did go back the following day and give it a try. We both enjoyed our meals and found the same guy to be very friendly... Guess we all have bad days.. The building is nicely appointed with a great atmosphere and a roaring fire in the pub side. I would say this is the spot to hang out when in town.

This is a lovely,friendly place.The staff are great and the food is excellent..I love the sign outside on the bar door(go see for yourself)everytime I read it I have a wee giggle as I have never seen it anywhere else.My only negative with this place is that you CANT book a table in the restaurant as they have a really annoying buzzer system.It seems to work for them BUT,say you want to enjoy a couple of beverages,when your table is booked you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere in the cosy bar area without anticipating when your buzzer might,or might not go off....Apart from that,we have NEVER had a bad meal here,the food is exceptional

We have not been to Aviemore for 28 years but I always remember this hotel as being iconic and standing out opposite the train station . So booked it for 2 nights direct with the hotel. What a charming olde world hotel. With lots of quirky Scottish decoration. Everybody we encountered was helpful and polite. Room tastefully decorated. Tea & coffee making in room . Breakfast defeated us both .

Good food and drinks. Portions as always more than enough for even the healthiest appetite and good value for money. Only small criticism I would add that for lunch, it is nice to eat in the bar area (as used to be the case) rather than limited to the conservatory.

When we were last in Aviemore we had had a real problem getting table. I think there were particular reasons for that and I dont remember what they were but what attracted us here was the fact they do smaller portions for seniors. We rocked up at 6pm and got a seat straight away although by 630 it was rammed. All of our food came quickly and the service was just fantastic. I managed all of my soup and fish and chips but my wife still struggled to get through the roast of the day. It was hard to see how it qualified as a smaller portion tbh This is one of Aviemore's classic places to eat and with good reason. Before we left last night we were figuring what we would have the next night for dinner.....

The live pub music scene in Scotland is definitely not what it used to be, and so it was awesome to discover the hotel we were staying in had this offering. Kept us at the bar longer. The food is good and there are plenty of options (dinner and breakfast) for gluten free. If you had some local Scottish GF beers available I might even have given you 5 stars 😉 The room was fine too, and I slept well enough. Good shower and a view out to the snow capped Cairngorm plateau. Handy location for the shops and the other bars in town.

Very nice hotel. In the middle of “life”. Clean, super friendly staff and very comfortable. The rooms are large and the bathroom is probably new. Good size and just beautiful. Parking spaces are directly in front of the house. Dinner was served quickly and tasted excellent.

We ate there 2 nights in a row, used the senior menu, food was really good, portions also great, the staff were absolutely great, helpful, friendly, and chatty. Enjoyable visit on both evenings !

We had a really nice night's stay here, great bar, Comfy beds, pleasant staff and a tasty breakfast in the morning.

Spent a couple of nights here and absolutely loved it. Hotel is across from the rail station, centre of town. Parking available. Old fashioned Hotel with creaky staircase which adds to the wonder of this gem. Excellent restaurant serving a wonderful enjoyable breakfast, lunches available and fantastic evening dinners. Coffee section and a must go to is the bar both during the day and evening. Rooms are delightful, fully equipped, and very comfortable and clean. Staff are all amazing, very helpful to your needs and will ensure your stay is enjoyable. This time we had room service as we had had a long journey and it felt like we were royalty. We totally enjoyed our stay and will be back on many more trips here.

The welcoming as we came into the hotel to see if they had a table for 9 people was fantastic. Very friendly & helpful. They were able to accommodate us with 2-3mins by moving tables, so we could all sit together. The waitress was informative & obviously enjoyed her job. The food is very reasonably prices for a hotel. The food was exceptional. Very good menu & decent sized portions. Would definitely return. Thank you all for a very pleasant meal.

Never stayed in the hotel but visited the lounge bar. Ignore the Knight armour in the foyer, this place is brilliant. Friendly and quick bar service even when busy. A nice selection of ales and spirits at reasonable prices. Had some live music when I visited on a Saturday evening with Sky sports on the telly, perfect!

I came upon the hotel after leaving another hotel back in mid January within half an hour I was booked into a room beautifully decorated and the bonus of soaking in the bath was bliss after a day out...the food was outstanding the staff were terrific especially thanks to Craig on reception for a warm welcome and the other staff in the restaurant was made to feel at home...I will definitely be using this hotel as my yearly winter base holiday zone. Stopped over for a family lunch. Food is average, normal pub food. Availability of vegan food is good. Parking is available and toilets are clean.

I’ve only had lunch so I can’t comment on the rooms. On our second visit it there were no tables but we could wait in the bar with a “buzzer” a great system! Lunch was well priced, reasonably portioned and the atmosphere was lovely. All staff were friendly and the place was clean. We went with children and they were very happy, loving the traditional chandeliers made out of antlers.

Great spot. Good bar staff. Live music every night we were there. Fire in the bar. Plenty local gins, decent enough Guinness. Food at breakfast and dinner was always nice. Rooms had everything we needed. With the live music it made the bar the busiest spot in town. Nice atmosphere.

We’ve stayed here a couple times. Love the cosy bar and the food is great. However, we now have a small dog who is not welcome in the bar. I’m not going to sit in a foyer by reception to enjoy a drink. We are currently in Aviemore again (third time in 3 years since we’ve had our dog ) staying elsewhere and have not been excluded from any other establishment. Such a shame.

This is a really busy restaurant, probably the most popular in Aviemore and if you go you will understand why. All staff very attentive, menu extensive, food delicious and reasonably priced. There is a good atmosphere in the restaurant and the bar.

One of our “go to” places on our yearly visit/stay in Aviemore. Actually ate dinner here twice this year (out of 7 nights 😬). Buzzer system until table available as bookings not taken - good system which works well. We always like to grab a drink in the bar before dinner and often there is live music on which just enhances the atmosphere. Never disappointed with their good, tasty food, large portions and very reasonable prices. Please give it a go.

So you have to wait, but really there system works well so get a beer and wait a bit. Staff excellent, we have a disabled daughter in a wheelchair, they could not have been more helpful. Food was very good, didn’t want for anything. We really enjoyed our evening

Went here around 4pm for an early family dinner ...3 generations of us. Grandparents, parents and kids. The welcome from staff ( Jason in particular) was fantastic - we were made to feel very much at home and warmly welcomed. The food was excellent, served quickly and the atmosphere in the restaurant was great. Happily recommend this venue for an evening meal.

We went in for a late lunch/early dinner today with our 2 boys on our way home from holiday. We were starving and tired after an early flight then a drive up from Edinburgh. What an absolute treat! The food was amazing and the portions are so generous. We had a lovely meal in a beautiful dining room which looks newly decorated. What made our visit so brilliant though was our lovely waiter and I’m gutted I didn’t get his name! They’re all so nice but this young guy just made our day, our boys loved him too. He was just so friendly and went out of his way to help our two hyper cheeky boys! We’ll definitely be back, thankyou!

The Cairngorm has always been our stopping off point on our forays down the A9. We have never been disappointed in the past, and today's visit was no exception. Friendly staff, good service, a wide-ranging menu, and very reasonable prices. It is probably 10 years since we last had lambs liver and onion, and lo and behold there it was on the menu. Probably a large proportion of diners would go 'yeugh' but we both thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. A lovely traditional hotel and highly recommended

Amazing food. We shared haggis and mozzarella bon bons which were delicious with the cream and mustard sauce. Hubby had venison stew which was so yummy and I had chicken stuffed with black pudding. The pepper sauce just finished it off and the mash was so smooth and creamy. Carrots and parsnip also had a lovely almost curry taste. We shared sticky toffee pudding and so glad we only ordered one dessert as it was huge. Very reasonable prices and very friendly staff who were obviously rushed off their feet but found time for a chat and a bit of banter! The bar is also very nice and has a huge selection of whisky, beers and gin. You can’t book which is a good thing in my opinion nowadays as too many people just don’t turn up and tables are wasted.

Stayed at the hotel prior to the night before a race. Failed to get a decent sleep due to a band playing. Music was so loud and this ruined the stay. Disappointed as it was a much needed break for some R&R.

We stayed elsewhere but decided to eat here as not a great choice of places nearby. We didn't book and it was really busy, they said we could wait but it would be at least an hour. We didn't mind that and we were given a buzzer like they use in St James Quater. We happy waited in the large bar area and enjoyed a drink. We were sat down in the restaurant which was busy but good. It was someone birthday and a Piper appeared playing bagpipes, which was a great touch and everyone joined in clapping. Nice food, as everywhere in Aviemore be prepared to pay more than you would do back home. Would recommend.

We spent one night at the Cairngorm hotel. We had a fun evening in the pub, with live music. We enjoyed our traditional Scottish dinner in the restaurant and also had a lovely complimentary breakfast in the morning. The rooms were small but well kept and the staff were all very pleasant and accommodating. The hotel is located in the center of the Aviemore.
