The best restaurants serving British food in England

I've been to the Wharf before and was very happy with the food and atmosphere and everything else, this time not impressed at all. The service and the staff were so nice, professional and knowledgeable and always had a smile despite being so busy. The food on the other hand, seemed like the chef loved oily food too much, there was excessive oil in everything, onion rings were covered in oil and heavy batter. Caesar salad was floating in sauce and even the pasta had excessive oil in it. This really brought the quality of the food down and affected my expectations. Hopefully the kitchen will revise the use of oil in their food in the future as it's a shame for such a nice place and good staff to lose customers based on food.

Went for a visit for breakfast and wasn't disappointed. Food was beautiful, staff were extra friendly and it's an interesting place to go. Fresh yogurt with fruit and a bacon sandwich went down a treat. The full English looked great. Nice options for seating from sofas to bar type tables and an outdoor space. Right by the canal so had a walk then went back for another coffee. Definitely worth a revisit.

Nothing but positives. Best fish and chips in Penzance. Friendly and engaging staff. Large portions of fresh halibut (or cod) and delicious fries served at a fair price. Orders are prepared quickly and wrapped in paper for easy takeout. Indoor seating available if you prefer. Highly recommended.

Wonderful meal last Saturday night. Food is excellent and the staff are really great, very attentive and personable. Beer great as well. Would recommend this establishment to everyone you will not be disappointed. Would take any family and friends there for a great night.

Great food and portion size for your money, probably the curry sauce I've ever had. Nice staff and beautiful views across Scarborough bay.

Pleasant stop after a walk up Pendle Hill. Cup of tea and a slice of cake. Also (although we didn't partake) they sell slush puppies with booze in!

Delightful pub / restaurant in an idyllic setting. Fabulous food and plenty of ales to choose from. Run by a great team, has a great beer garden with plenty to entertain young children and situated close to Marlborough Wilts.

Pleasant pub with helpful service and bar staff. As a vegetarian there were a couple of choices as I eat fish, but don’t always want fish. Would have been nice to have a salad choice due to warmer weather, only one was Waldorf with chicken/stilton; maybe a veggie one with goats cheese/ Stilton or similar ? Garden area nice but some tables/ chairs needed updating or replacing.

What a lovely independent cafe very friendly service food well presented and good quality.Have to say the toilet facilities were very clean. All round good value and worth a visit .

What a lovely restaurant in Bath, came here for my birthday last week and it was very good experience. The service was exceptional and Tegan made us feel welcome, was super lovely and was on hand with our questions about the food. Speaking of, the food was outstanding as was the wine, highly recommend!
