Lockgate Coffee House in Central Bedfordshire

My first visit, but won't be my last. Just happened to pass it and called in. I had the best Goats Cheese and Beetroot Salad and the coffee was nice too. It's a busy little cafe, I just wish it was closer to where I live. They even gave my dog a few treats too!😊

Paid a disposit of £20 for afternoon tea as advertised on there Web site, went to pay for the 2nd person so should had been another £20 to pay, they asked for £24 as the price on the Web site was wrong. They should had honoured the £40. Would not recommend this place.

Lovely team members but shocking service and coffee wasn't great considering it's a coffee house, 20 min wait for a take out coffee and sausage roll. Heard another customer say she had waited 45 mins for soup which was cold in the middle. Main disappointment was the coffee which was luke warm and weak, by the time I'd realised this I was on my way in the car and didn't have it in me to go back and wait! I don't think it's worth the money I paid, it was £9 for a horrible coffee and sausage roll (which was tasty).

Lovely cafe overlooking a small river and canal. Excellent food, cakes and hot drinks. Lovely outside decking and patio area available. Dogs are welcome too 🙂

Fabulous little coffee shop. Great tasting soups, sandwiches and cakes. Friendly service.

Expensive by comparison to others particularly when adding extras e.g. mushrooms. Quality of ingredients are fine and breakfast was cooked well . Environment was good, clean and quirky Access and Exiting the car park (which is free) is dangerous with blind bends , particularly when turning right into the car park and exiting right when leaving . On balance not great value

Called into this lovely little coffee shop on Sunday. Was really amazed with it, lovely coffee and carrot cake (all home made I was assured!!) staff were extremely nice and helpful- will definitely be calling back there!! 👍👍

Very rude staff. Told us she had no food left, even though it was an hour off closing. Looked at me like it was my fault. Not made to feel welcome at all. The location is nice and menu actually looks ok, but that’s if they ever have food in! Got a drink which was just ok.

Lovely place for breakfast/lunch, nice decor and very friendly staff! Only downside for colder months is that tables are quite close together so feels small but in the summer when you can sit on the decking and look out to the canal it will be gorgeous!

Family day out to Beeston. The weather was a little chilly so decided to see what’s close by rather than sitting on an outdoor bench. Everything was great, the food is a sorry sight for those with dairy intolerances because I wanted everything. However, everyone loved everything and more than catered for the likes of me. Would definitely come back, even if it’s just popping in for a cake or sausage roll

Ridiculously priced! Seriously .. 2 bacon baps and a cup of tea £20.40p,im no mean diner as we go all over the country to some fine places,but this was totally absurd!! As usual 2 young staff sat on mobile phones which the customer has to pay for so clearly the prices reflect this also.Dont pay it,go elsewhere as i work hard for my money and you probably do too!

Overpriced! Wasn't expecting just breakfast of 1 sausage 1 egg etc. for the high price and tea and coffee extra is taking the mick. Outside seating nice but plagued my wasps. Won't use again

Spotted this wonderful café here on Google maps and having ready the reviews decided to stop for lunch today on our journey from Glasgow to Shropshire. My wife and I shared the Farmers Platter and it was everything we expected and more. Generous portions with a variety of great flavours.

Had a lovely caramel iced coffee and some lunch of a very tasty salmon quiche. Really lovely atmosphere and a great outdoor area. My dog was also very happy meeting the staff and having a puppacinno

Lovely little find earlier this year on a walk so made sure we came back. A good 4 mile walk to get a nice coffee and scone. Only just made it before they closed but we'll worth the 8 mile round trip.

Nice food, a great place to stop

Would be good to have a few more veggie/vegan options on the luncheon menu. Atmosphere would be improved without the niche-style music. Maybe okay for the evening bit too intrusive for daytime. Overall a very clean , comfy and nicely run café.

Efficient service with plenty & varied choice of food. Nice atmosphere & plenty of car parking. Handy outside seating when the weather is kind!

Very poor breakfast... what's the point if you are going to have quality ingredients...then microwave it...not nice.☹️

Booked an afternoon tea for my Wife's 50th birthday with a few extras, the food and the service was fabulous, can't thank all the staff enough and we look forward to returning soon.

Not a bad butty but for £12.75 for a bacon sausage an egg barm with a coffee you’d expect it to be decent. (Only one sausage aswel unbelievable!!

Stopped off on my canal walk from Chester to Nantwich. Perfect for a pastry & hot pot of tea. Thank you for great service, clean toilets, & being friendly.

I Visited this place twice. Once on the way to Shrewsbury for a quick coffee. Loved the vibe and look of the food so stopped for breakfast. It was very nice and they are very popular with dogs.

Lovely place after visit to Beeston Castle. The fairly unique Iron lock is a few minutes away. Food of v good quality. Ploughman's was excellent

We ride here on our bicycles , loads of room for our bikes and the hot drinks and food is always very good

From the moment we stepped into the door we were made to feel unwelcome by the staff. When we asked if there was a menu we were shrugged in the direction of a hidden stack of them. The food and drinks were decent, but all 4 of us were very unimpressed by the front of house service.

Called in on my motorcycle and had a coffee and bacon barm. Lovely location, premises and staff. Would like to return for a meal.

Excellent coffee and bacon bun. Good service and lovely to sit outside on the patio at the back. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

A wonderful accidental find and very highly recommended. A lovely, warm, quirky and welcoming establishment. Very helpful and friendly staff provide great service. The food and drink was very good too and I will definitely be visiting again. So refreshing to find such a rare gem after enduring the mediocrity of endless Costa Coffee and Starbucks. Try it - you won’t be disappointed 👍😃

Wow what a find! We were leaving Wrenbury nearby after a weekend away and looking for somewhere to have some breakfast before setting off and we just happened come across this gem! I ordered the full English and my partner had a bacon sandwich which were both excellent but we also took away one of their chocolate covered croissants, the best croissant I’ve ever eaten, and a sausage roll the size of a beef wellington! Honestly this place is a must try if in the area it was incredible

During a day out at Beeston Castle 🏰 we popped into the Lockgate coffee house as it was very close by. It was a morning visit for a coffee ☕️ hot chocolate and a pot of tea. Upon entering, the surroundings are lovely and a little quirky, I'd say. The staff are very friendly and our orders were taken promptly. The beverages ☕️ we ordered came pretty quickly and they were of good quality and a very reasonable price. 👌🏿 Overall, we enjoyed our coffee and tea stop, and i would definitely visit again. Maybe I'd try some food on the next visit. I'd highly recommend this independent coffee house . There are toilets 🚻 and the place is dog 🐕 friendly with outside seating areas outside.

Stopped here twice whilst passing on a narrowboat. The location didn't look promising and the building is a bit shed like, but tidy. Once inside, it's a gem - good food and drink, great range to suit adults and kids. Friendly and helpful staff and in a thoughtful and attractive decor.

Busy cafe with views to the iron lock. Reasonable sized car park. If the weather allows lots of outside seating.

Great cafe, definitely cyclist friendly as they have installed bike racks. Coffee of a very high quality and the chocolate brownie I had was gorgeous. It was a cold day when we visited, but inside was warm, didn't want to leave. Staff helpful and friendly, will most certainly be returning

Came across here by chance. Sausage and caramelised onion panini was lovely. Good value for money.

I am quite particular about where I eat but this was possibly one of the best English breakfasts I have ever had. Food was piping hot, as was the lovely coffee. We will definitely be back.

A small delight, with great, individual style and lovely food and drinks. Very dog friendly and staff were helpful. Walking routes on hand. We took the grandkids and they loved it as well.

We popped in today for a spot of lunch and it was lovely, really friendly and clean. Menu choice was good and they do a choice of vegetarian options, my partner had the ploughman's and he loved it

Lovely place very near a canal lock hence the name, so walking along the canal is available. The food is very nice and not to expensive, you can eat outside in nice weather and enjoy the countryside.

Pleasant location. Decent car park and a couple of bicycle racks. Has options for both indoor and outdoor eating. The staff were very friendly, the food was nicely presented and the prices were about average. I've been there about 10 times and always been happy with it.

Only had a cup of tea but the place was nicely done our. The tea was loose tea and flavoursome.

A real little gem of a cafe. We stopped by for some lunch before heading out onto the canal with my wife's uncle, aboard his wood fired pizza boat! 🍕 Great selection of food and drinks with comfortable seating both inside and out. There's even the occasional train that whizzes past which our young daughter loved spotting 🚄 A proper little quirky cafe, great customer service - couldn't do enough for us and made our food stop off pleasant and enjoyable. Good value for money and proper real tea on offer too! When we're back - we will return ❤

Excellent well-priced ciabattas and sandwiches. The staff were friendly and efficient. We sat outside on the rear deck in the sun...v. pleasant despite the occasional nearby express train. Would heartily recommend.

Also plenty of seating inside and out. Good coffee. Disappointed with some of the cakes we had, maybe just an offday as friends speak highly of food here.

Awful place. Staff unhelpful. They advertise food served until 3.30 but at 3.15 when we arrived from a cycle ride they said finished food as had been busy?? All they had to offer were cakes or toast! Why they couldn't stretch to a sandwich I don't know. Will not be going again.

Amazing little café tucked away in a beautiful area. Friendly,attentive staff serving a good selection of home made foods also catering for gluten free requirements. Dog friendly all round brilliant place. Despite living 1/2 hr drive away I will be making it our as regular as possible place to go.😁

Stopped here on a visit to cheshire on 28/3/22. Beautiful little boutique coffee house. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The food was amazing, lovely breakfasts. Home made blueberry scones baked that morning. Loose leaf tea in special tea pots, view of the locks/canal. Toilets were spotless. Definitely going there again on our next visit, would highly recommend. Also dog friendly with home made dog treats and drinks also available. Keep up the hard work ladies your coffee house is 5*. Food was too nice I forgot to take pics but will next time.

Came across the Lockgate Coffee House purley by accident looking for a place to eat off the main road, such a pleasant welcoming little place, lovely home made food, pleasant friendly staff in a beautiful setting, sit outside if you can the view is a great accompaniment to the food and afternoon tea or coffee.

Fabulously unique and quirky coffee shop serving delicious food with a twist.

Nice, welcoming cafe on the A49 at Beeston. Ideal for passing cyclists, motorcyclists or motorists. Great to use as a starting/ finishing point for walks along the canal, up to the castle or onto the Sandstone Trail. Seating indoors or outside on a large deck overlooking the canal and surrounding countryside. Gorgeous today in the sunshine. Cakes, scones, sandwiches, and ice cream or a variety of light meals available. Most of our walking group usually opt for scrambled eggs with cherry tomatoes and smoked salmon or poached eggs with spinach and hollandaise sauce, both served with toast, always a generous serving and always delicious. Definitely good value for money. Service can be a bit slow at busy times but it's worth it for the welcome and quality of refreshments.
