First time in this local pub for a Sunday roast and didn’t disappoint Friendly welcome and lovely service from all the ladies in the pub All of us had roasts and best roast had for some time went large all the meats and decent portion and selection of veg Finished off with lovely creamy ice cream and can recommend the sticky toffee pudding Good pint London pride and nice hot floater coffees Will take some beating for friendly staff and decent food

Sunday lunch is excellent, plenty of food. General menu has a good selection but you do need to book a table, especially on Sundays. Price is very good for what you get. They have a large garden to the rear, with parking. Staff were very friendly, even suggested a very good gin!

So lucky to find this place after a day out at Whipsnade. When pubs say ‘child friendly’ I never know what to expect but this pub is totally that. It’s so well looked after, even the gardens are tidy and well looked after. The food was great, very fresh and tasty. We had a pie, a lasagne, a burger and an Italian chicken with salad but the child meal was great too. Freshly battered chicken strips not the usual mush that passes for chicken nuggets for kids. The staff were all super helpful too. There’s the best collection of board games I’ve seen in a pub/restaurant again showing their commitment to families. If I lived closer, this would be my chosen pub/restaurant.

Before travelling to Whipsnade Zoo we knew as a family we wanted to have dinner out before heading home. I googled gluten free restaurants near the zoo and 3 options came up. As we drove towards the zoo we saw the pub .. it looked perfect and very welcoming so that was decided where we were going to eat. When we pulled in there was ample parking as a cute little play area in the long beer garden. We ate indoors (bugs!) and the service as soon as we walked in was faultless. We felt very welcome. The staff were really friendly. There are so many different board games to pick from to play with the family, for a date night or with friends. Our little family played some games which helped settle the excitement from the day. Our server was absolutely fantastic. She was confident with the gluten free options. Our dinner came and it did not disappoint! The gluten free food was honestly so good. The kids meals were not small portions ... after dinner we sat in the garden with a hot drink while the kids burnt off the last of their energy. We really were so pleased that we stopped here for dinner. Thank you for the good food and Fanta hospitality.

Farmers Boy offers a delightful dining experience with home-cooked meals that truly stand out. My grandfather praised it as one of the best roast he’s had. The Sunday menu, though different from the weekday offerings, provides heartwarming options perfect for a cozy Sunday meal. The restaurant features ample parking, though it's worth noting that there are no designated disabled spots and it’s a rocky based terrain so be careful walking. However, the step-free access at the front makes it accessible for any individual. Everyone in our group agreed—they would return without hesitation. Highly recommended!

We wanted somewhere new to meet as a family and celebrate a relative’s birthday. We had driven past the Farmer’s Boy on a regular basis, but had never been there, so decided to give it a try. We were so pleased we did. What a great experience. The food was really good - it was a Sunday so there were 5 or more options for a roast dinner, but which also could be ordered in different sizes. The portions were extremely generous so no-one went hungry! The optional Cauliflower Cheese (extra cost) could easily have been shared by four as a side dish. In addition to the roasts, there was a good selection of fairly traditional pub food, including liver & bacon and fish & chips. The pudding selection was also good and again the portion sizes were generous. The service was excellent with very polite, engaging and cheerful staff and the environment was clean, tidy and well maintained. We really enjoyed our visit and, if the number of people coming and going during our time there is any indication, it is a very popular venue with the locals. One interesting element I have not seen before was the copious number of board games available to play whilst visiting. Our table had a Bond themed Trivial Pursuits game which we enjoyed whilst waiting for our food. Overall, for six of us, the cost was just over £150. This was for two courses and a drink, and was very reasonable given the generous portion sizes. We’ll definitely be going there again and would highly recommend it.

Roast beef and lamb chosen, both were very average. Not enough vegetables, no seasoning. Potatoes solid, parsnips pale. Meat over cooked. Dessert good, sticky toffee pudding. We wouldn't visit again for Sunday roast, but pub is obviously very popular

First time visiting this pub and my gf hadnt been here for some years. We tried Sunday lunch, luckily we booked as it was rammed! We were served quickly, and enjoyed some of the books left on the windowsill. Once our order was taken it was about a 20minute wait. That's to be expected for a small pub. The wait was worth it. One of the best Sunday roasts I've had. Hats off to the staff and landlord. Keep it up, we will be back!

We arrived without a booking so waited with a drink for 10 mins which was absolutely fine, the bar area was pleasant. The pub had a fair few customers, but was by no means full which makes the service we received unexplainable. Once seated we ordered our roasts and had to wait almost an hour for them to arrive. If the food had arrived after 10-15 minutes I would have been fine with the carvery quality food, but an hour to have frozen veg, potatoes and Yorkshire puddings unceremoniously dumped in front of me without a word from a miserable waitress was disappointing. The other servers were very pleasant, and did apologise for the wait. It was a cheap meal (thankfully) but I don’t think that was enough to make up for the poor experience.

We booked because we saw the sign outside saying 5 roast meats to choose from for Sunday lunch and wanted to give it a try as we tend to be disappointed with roasts in pubs. We arrived a little earlier than our booking but were seated straight away. A party of people arived just after us and sat next to us. They did not know the meaning of indoor voices so we asked the waitress if we could move if they had availability, she moved us within minutes. We ordered the Hunters chicken with mash instead of chips which they did not mind doing. We also ordered a large lamb roast and a medium turkey roast, it arrived in a timely manner and it was refereshing to find the veg was hot rather than tepid like some places, the roast potatoes were amazing. We also ordered pudding which was lemon roulade, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie, the potions where much bigger than we expected. All of the staff were lovely and were on hand when you needed them. The only thing which we see that was a slight disappointment was that is was rather chilly where we were seating and the real fire was not lit. We are defeniltly booking again soon as we want to try other items on the menu.

It started well with a good selection on the menu. When we came to order our breakfast sandwiches my friend asked how much it would be to add an egg to her bacon sandwich, at which point the waitress advised that the prices on the menu had increased so weren't correct & could only say they had gone up by about 50p. On asking for a sparkling water she advised that had also gone up by 20p maybe 30p, these increases were due to the cost of living increase. When we questioned why the menus hadn't been updated she advised there were new owners & it hadn't been done yet but that there was a sign on the wall inside the shop advising of the price increase, we were sat outside but to be honest anyone entering the shop wouldn't have seen it as it would have been behind them. She then brought out the A4 sign. She also tried to find an updated menu which she couldn't find. Firstly I am sure this must be illegal to advertise one price & charge another & secondly a hand written note could have been added to the menu or a copy of the price increase attached to the menu which everyone would have seen. Maybe the new owners should hold fire on the price increase until new menus are available as it may save their reputation. The breakfast sandwiches were very tasty, however the 'glass' that accompanied the sparkling water was in fact a jar with a thread for a screw top. Some might call it funky but not to everyone's taste. Needless to say it wasn't used. There are standards which have to be met & the clear advertising of correct pricing is one of them. We are all effected by the cost of living crisis & on occasions when we do our bit to support local businesses we might be watching the pennies too.
