Lovely friendly pub . Excellent food

It honestly is the worst food I have ever had in a public establishment. I ordered tomato soup and it came as cornflour mixed with a teaspoon of tomato ketchup - totally inedible. The Cottage pie was watery and it tasted disgusting - my husband was nauseous all the way home. Pls don’t eat in this place it is horrendous.

Amazing views outside but sadly it was a little too cold to sit, so we had to go inside. It would be great to have heaters and a more cozy seating outside. The staff were very friendly and we liked the food too, quite affordable.

Great place to stop for a food or drink. I never see such a clean and nice smell toilets in UK.

We have ordered from The Cross Keys a number of times now and have not been disappointed once. The food is always hot on arrival and excellent quality. Excellent value for money and delivered with a smile. Great service, great food, great experience. 👌

Always friendly and the Landlord went down very well - the beer not the person!

We actually had a Sunday Roast delivery. It arrived before the estimated time and the driver was very pleasant. The lunch was fabulous and tasted fresh and home cooked. Very generous portions, tender meat, 5 types of veg plus roasties, cauliflower cheese, roast parsnip, Yorkshire pud and delicious gravy. The prices are super reasonable too! Thoroughly recommend 😊

Beautiful views on a summers day. Great for children as they have a very large garden. I ordered Nachos which took a while to receive and were served in a basket with paper. The nachos had soaked through the paper and were soaking through the basket. It would have been better served on a plate. Horrible guacamole. I had mine with Chilli which was nice. Overall I was not impressed and found it expensive for what I received. My mum had scampi and chips which looked amazing and was good.

Honestly awful. Ploughmans arrived in a pizza takeaway box, Nachos were drowned in salsa/cheese making it inedible and if that isn't bad enough we were then given wooden disposable cutlery to eat this with. Wont be going back.

Nice country pub - food was mediocre...

Very friendly landlord. We parked at the pub Sat AM and went on a circle walk. Visited with the landlord before leaving and he was very nice. Stopped for lunch and a couple of pints. Lamb shank was excellent as was the cask beer.

Our first time visiting today and we were not disappointed! Good hot food, great service from bar and waiting staff and my new favourite person Kieron ;) and my word what a view…warm enough to eat outside and it’s safe to say we will definitely be returning.

Popped in for a drink after lovely walk over the Tottenhoe knolls..sat outside with the lovely views over towards Ivinghoe and the zoo....very very old pub with super history

Amazing Sunday Roast! Very cozy little pub, food tastes amazing, generous portions and lots of vegetables that come with roast dinner options.

Good food but made to feel like second class citizens when you sit outside as they don’t even given you metal cutlery. Took a long time to come but was decent pub food. Dogs not allowed inside

Personally, I don't understand why people are complaining about the size or the placement of the tables. This is a great local with good food, beer & friendly locals/staff. I particularly recommend the sea bass. It has a large garden area which I imagine is great in the summer. The interior is small so there is no dedicated restaurant area which is important to note if you prefer a restaurant setting.

A really excellent, traditional, proper pub. A warm, friendly welcome as we arrived. Good choices of food - all delicious and well-priced. My Guinness was perfectly poured (not always the case). A great first-time experience, and we'll certainly be going again.

Food was great, still hot and crispy (where it’s meant to be!). We had Popcorn chicken, pulled pork burger, wings and kebab - all fab. We’ll be coming back for more!

Holy cow. The food was unreal. The biggest and tastiest roast I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, I’m not well enough to leave the house at the moment but when I can, I will be in the restaurant for another! Delivery driver was lovely as per usual. Thank you The Cross Keys!!

Food is just so scrummy! The cottage pie is just my favourite and I had the apple crumble tonight for the first time and WOW, it was so tasty and a huge portion! Shout out for the delivery driver too, he’s always friendly when he delivers. Until next time, thank you!

We went to this pub for an evening meal, only to find ourselves seated in the fireplace, yes that right in the fireplace. We had to duck to get in and out of our seats. The food was ok, just typical bar food. The waitress was lovely, would we go back , absolutely not.

Really great food - hot and good portion sizes too. I’d definitely order from them again.

My family had an excellent evening at the keys - quite full for a Thursday and the patrons were in a Christmas mood - all looked after by the excellent Bar Manager Angie, who helped create a welcoming and warm atmosphere. Really recommended if you want somewhere cosy, great company, conversation and people. Excellent service, real ales, wine and especially food - many thanks Dann Pubs!

First time here and we had a lovely Roast dinner with the family. Great friendly service. 5 stars. Reasonable price. Lovely setting. Got in carpark but nearly full. Garden is beautiful and huge. Great area. Grandchild loved playing out there in children area. Will definitely go again 👍

You know what, this pub is really growing on me. Every time I go I think it's one of the best pubs in the area. The staff are so friendly and the kids love the large garden.

Ordered large kebabs but got small ones. One of the drinks deliveted was wrong. Appears to be hit and miss with the orders as they supply what they have in stock and not what is ordered. Have had better from the Cross Keys.

Bloody lovely!! Very accommodating while busy, food was quick and delicious, bags of room outside to sit and for kids to play in the MASSIVE garden. Tiny inside but in a great way. Fab atmosphere. Loved it. Will be back for sure.

Roast potatoes were more like greasy boiled , parsnip and carrots rock hard ,no yourkshire pudding ,all stone cold

The Skin on Fries were missing, but the meal was as usual incredibly good, so the last thing I want is for a simple mistake to reflect on the quality of the food or the service.

I didn't know that the cross keys did food delivery, I placed an order and was impressed, and they're closer to my home as well. So will use again. And due to the number of choices, get most things from one place.

Ordered mixed kebab and only came with chicken and chips no lamb dinner included and was cold, Pizza was also cold and not nice at all, threw it away. Second time I’ve had bad food from there now, tried them 4 times as want to support local but won’t be going there anymore

Really lovely old pub with fairy lights.. and candles and roses on the table today. Steaks and chunky chips with a creamy peppercorn sauce were beautifully cooked, price was reasonable too. Our dog loved it there and the staff team were really friendly.. Lots of different gins.. a few guest ales.. and lovely views outside with red kites flying overhead. Would definitely return and recommend 👍

Looking for Sunday lunch to break the journey and came across this pub. Very welcoming - limited menu but terrific food- home cooked with proper vegetables. Wine choice limited but what we had was excellent so no problem. Wonderful lamb shank and all at a reasonable price . Will go again if in the area

We had a very pleasant lunch at this pub today. I had the special deal…three courses for £9.95 which was great value and my husband had The pie of the day which was beef and ale with mash and seasonal vegetables. The pie was tasty and full of meat and much enjoyed. Service was good and the waitress very friendly and chatty. We were given a table by the radiator and window which had a good outlook and was warm!

After great game of 3 card brag (using Swan Vesta matches as 'betting money' we moved from Grandma Thompson's sitting room to the compact and bijou front bar which John manned for the evening, single-handed. If I'd been hungry, I know the food would have been as marvellous as the company !

Great pub with friendly, helpful staff. We had Sunday lunch, which was excellent. Good beers and great location with lovely terrace and beer garden.

Pleasantly surprised by the food we were served. One beef burger and one chicken burger. Very tasty and presented well. Nice friendly staff and dog friendly. Would recommend.

Old pub on the outskirts of the village. There are rumours on social media that it was home to the first licensed landlady but I'm not sure if this is true or not. It is though a lovely pub with a great historical significance. Beers not cheap but the views of The Chilterns from the garden are stunning. Definitely worth a stop in good weather.

Popped in for a quick drink on 12 Jan 22. This place is an absolute gem! Not the biggest pub I’ve ever been in but it was oozing charm. The manager and owner were very friendly as were the other customers, if I lived a bit closer I’d happily make this my local.👍👍

Great village pub. Plenty of seating areas outside with lovely views over Dunstable downs. Really nice pint of Doombar and Guinness.
