Called in to have a coffee and hot panini did have a dog no mention of not allowed in the shop until coffee brought over and told to leave!!! staff had seen me with daughter and dog at ordering and again when coffee brought to table then ?manager came over was rude and said we had to go daughter stood out in the rain with dog and manager person took the coffee away to put in takeaway cups Staff disorganised and queuing out of the door as so slow Too many staff and not working together leading to slow service poor granny in a mobility scooter left out in the rain as couldn’t get in to be served Worst coffee I have ever been served totally undrinkable Signage needs to be displayed to make owners aware that dogs are not welcomed and staff need some training about how to be respectful and courteous to customers as the manager was downright rude to us which is totally unacceptable Not a nice experience at all

Not the best experience. My partner always wanted us to go to Tom's cake in St Ives so today we decided to go. We've ordered a slice of cake and a scone. The waiter was very unfriendly and kept rolling her eyes. She then threw the cake on the table and left. Then she took my scone to the table near us. The table near us said they didn't order a scone but they got told to keep it as they've got loads. After a while when she remembered I haven't got mine she brought me a scone, no napkin, no fork and to top it of it was very stale. Definitely not going there again.

The most delicious and beautiful selection of cakes! Particularly recommend red velvet, coffee & walnut, devils chocolate cake.

Nice cake selection / quality & tea, quickly served. Reasonable value experience and ambience at peak Saturday tea-time. It is a small establishment which gets crowded quickly and has an awkward queuing system. One star knocked off for dirty tables upstairs; just given a quick wipe amidst a warzone of floor crumbs emitted from cluster-bombing infant. And the upstairs is a bit small, spartan and cramped as others have remarked.

The rolls were served cold so I walked downstairs and politely asked  to the waitress to warm them up, but she refused to do it. When I asked for a reason, she said they just wouldn't warm food up. Why not? - I asked. The answer was: "because they come that way from the bakery" So much for 'homemade' sausage rolls! :) Later, our 3 coffees were litterally slammed down on the table. The macchiato was undrinkable. Next round of drinks for the adjacent table was served by a waitress yelling out loud. Place is nice, cake was light, but horrible and very poor customer service.

Visited here today I must say I was blown away with the quality of the food we had,homemade sausage rolls was the best I’ve tasted and the cream scone was an absolute pleasure to eat,it’s rated highly for a reason,a real must if you in the area

Fantastic place, amazing cakes. It’s a little small and gets very busy very quickly on weekends but that’s testament to how good it is. Highly recommend

Great selection of food. I had a scone with jam and cream, it was delicious. I also tried a taster cake which was also great. All of the other cakes looked rather tempting. They do also serve savoury snacks. Coffee ok but a bit weak and milky. The service was quick and efficient. Prices were reasonable. I'll definitely go back. I've been back many times and it was good as ever. Still highly recommend. I have visited many times since my initial review, the latest was in early May 2022. No need to change my original review, it's still great. April 2023 still 👍😃. April 2023 still 👍👍👍.

Went to the Toms in St. Ives yesterday to meet a friend who recommended it as it served great coffee and delicious cakes - it was ! So when we went to Ely today we went to Toms again and not disappointed ..The staff were amazing- the shop was rammed but they served everyone with grace and efficiency! The coffee was hot and the cakes yummy! It was a pleasure to be there even though it was sooo busy as everyone was so good humoured - happy to be in such a great cafe😊 Well done all

Good friendly little place. Proper Indy too. Love there are a few Vgn cake options - thank you, but omg they have been the same for years now - Carrot cake, choc cake and date slice... All lovely but can you vary these at all pls? Update- yep still same vgn cakes... ?

I have eaten my body weight in fresh cream cakes growing up in England before moving to America…I am now 65! I consider myself a wee bit of a fresh cream cake aficionado! 😀 Their Fresh Cream Scone is arguably the best I have had In My entire life & a 10 out of 10! We bought other cakes as well…All were 1st Class & outstanding! The serving staff were ALL outstanding, polite, & very helpful! I am considering taking a bus ride from Huntington to St Ives just to get a couple more! 😀👍

As usual very delicious cakes but no vegan or dairy free savoury options (took some encouragement to check savoury - though cakes are very well labelled)

A good little find that is an asset to the town - provided it keeps up its standards. Great selection of cakes, including some less common types, and a wide selection of brownies. Decent portions and well made. The coffee is also well brewed and of a good quality. Staff are very good as well, courteous and considerate, asking all the right questions. The only downside is that the seating area upstairs lacks atmosphere, with plain walls and hard flooring making it a bit hard to hear your conversation, and the seats are rather uncomfortable.

Although it says Tom Cake's their coffee is second to none. Used to be the Toll House for the Sheep Market many years ago it is a favourite spot for cake and teas and coffee. Couple of tables to sit outside is a favourite for cyclists and people and their dogs.

Nice carrot cake. Many brownie flavours to choose from as well. Very popular place judging by the queue of locals and cyclists

Absolutely brilliant cake, had the devils food cake. Scones looked incredible too, absolutely massive. Huge selection of cakes and traybakes, was so difficult to choose. Great value for money, big portions. Took it to the river and ate watching the boats and was a really nice afternoon.

Small shop (building was previously a public convenience!) So queues can be out the door but cakes are worth the wait!

This morning was my second visit for coffee and cake. I was recommended by a shop nearby. The cakes are excellent as is the coffee. I will definitely be back again. The only downside is that it’s a card only coffee shop. Pity they can’t take cash.

Have gone to Toms a lot in the last 3 years, since moving to the area and the cake and coffee are always incredible. The red velvet is divine! I had a very important party and birthday coming up (my mums 60th) and ordered a number cake- website ordering very easy to navigate. The cake itself was amazing- looked beautiful and made to perfection. I had to take it to Gloucestershire and the staff member I dealt with was very helpful and told me what was best to transport and store it. It travelled amazingly well in my car footwell with the air con on full blast! Everyone at the party was commenting on how flawless it looked and how great it tasted. 100% would recommend using Tom’s for birthday cakes (or any other cakes for that matter!) would definitely use them again.

Dont ask for a discount if you supply your own cup, as many other coffee shops do, they openly laugh in your face!

I was in St. Ives for a first visit to this café and I came with a few family members. We all had the same food but different types of coffees. This started me off on a regular lemon drizzle loaf expedition here. I love this and iced gingerbreads are the best. My family admired the range and drink / cake. Good luck to staff.

The cake options here are phenomenal! Absolute spoilt for choice and so tasty. The ladies that work here were lovely, so friendly and great service. A great place to stop for tea, coffee and a treat!

Great coffee and amazing cakes, probably the best in Cambridgeshire! Only bad point is that despite a large staff team, service can be confused and very slow.

Some of the young women, that work in Toms cakes ,definitely need some lessons in customer service and general bad attitude. It is also not pleasant to see certain members of staff cuddling with their boyfriends, whilst on duty ,not pleasant to see.

Really disappointed with the service and the fact that cannot pay with cash! All the other shops take cash! I'm not going to buy more cakes from here!

Always enjoy stopping off here for a cappuccino and cake. You can never go wrong with the cake choices here.

Overpriced nice cakes but nothing special . Cafe grubby uncleared tables Confirmed several times sandwich take away they starting warming we reminded the staff so they gave us part warmed sandwiches not replaced with fresh not good. Under supplied one piece of takeaway cake, we had paid for it. Tom you must be making a fortune so my comments mean nothing but one day you will have no custom and you will wonder why. I speak from many years in this fickle trade . Maybe Tom should make an appearance in his shop and see for himself Please take this as advice not moaning I hate to see a good product shabbily managed. The staff are chaotic And too many of them

We are never disappointed when we visit for our weekend treat (or treats if we can find a reason to pop to St Ives twice in a weekend!). Great coffee, as superb selection of cakes (although I rarely get passed the lime, blueberry & elderflower), friendly & efficient service. A definite place to go if you’re visiting St Ives!

Booked 45 cupcakes foe my daughters birthday party. Very easily done online and user friendly website. You can just pick where and when you pick the cakes up from and they were ready waiting for me, no issues. Very good pricing and everyone commented on how delicious they were!

We popped in for coffee and there was a huge selection of reasonably priced cakes. The Lime, Elderflower and Blueberry was fruity, light and moist and just delicious. Coffees were well made and all nicely presented in matching crockery. Service was friendly and timely so perhaps they have taken note of recent reviews. I will certainly be returning to sample another one of those cakes!

Stopping off as a pit stop for my cycle ride to Cambridge, Toms cakes have the best Choice of cakes , there scones and flapjacks are unreal. Service always great Will be back!

Wonderful! Cakes to die for, fabulous tasting coffee and such a choice of gorgeous home made cakes and savouries. Definitely worth a visit.

The girls behind the counter were more interested in talking amongst themselves than serving. When placing my order halfway through the girl serving turned away to talk to a colleague so I had to repeat the order. I won't be rushing back.

Visited this cafe numerous times and continue to return! Great selection of cakes and savoury food with good coffee (hot drinks). The staff here are lovely too! Highly recommend it!

Used to be a really nice place. But keep hearing poor comments from locals. So thought I’d give it a try and see. But Slow on delivery of order. Unclean tables up stairs. No wifi at all.

Visited on Sunday for the first time I got a table whilst my husband ordered it was busy and not many free tables. My table had been cleared but not wiped my husband came and sat down and then our food arrived cake and coffee carried by a waitress. I asked if she would not mind wiping our table she went off with our coffee and cake and returned with a cloth. I said it just a bit sticky she said thats why we ask people to wait their are several signs advising this. I said I did not realise as it was our first time she walked off. I felt annoyed at the way I had been spoken too I then watched as several people did what I did sat down several with the table still full of plates etc. She was asked again to clear and clean the table she did not tell any one else they should of read the sign. On leaving I read the signs it does not even state that it ruined the enjoyment of the coffee and cake.

We’ve been before a loved this place, food is always top notch but today the service was below par. We queued from the door, nothing untoward with a popular cafe. We could see at least four members of staff behind the service area, working but not rushed off their feet, when we got to the till we were met straight away with the question of “Is it take away”, no greeting or friendly Hello you would expect, my partner explained that we was going to go upstairs to try and find a seat as all the ones down stares where taken, we were told rather abruptly “we don’t have any free seat and I can’t have any more people waiting”, no apology was offered out of politeness, this caught us off guard and we almost felt like we had to order a take away and had no other options as there was a queue of people behind us. If we’d have been informed this when we entered and was waiting we wouldn’t have stayed and would have gone somewhere else as we was looking for somewhere to sit down in the warm and dry to give my partner a rest as she is 8 months pregnant with twins. It would have only taken two seconds to have informed people as they entered that currently there was no available seating and you would only serving take away. After we’d paid we was then told to wait outside for our hot drinks, I know the cafe is small but perhaps instead of pushing people through as quickly as possible you should take care of the people who have already paid for a service rather than allowing them to pay and then telling them to wait outside in the cold and rain, if it was 20 degrees and sunny it would be a different story but it was not. 7 degrees in March, think about the customer please, Costa don’t even make you wait outside. Myself and my partners who might I add again is 8 months pregnant then had to wait outside in the cold, wet and wind for out hot drinks. Too add to the disappointment the milk in my flat white was also too hot and burnt, I know this because the latter (for another customer) that came out at the same time was an “extra hot latte” so I expect it was made with the same milk, I did not ask for an extra hot drink so I wouldn’t expect it. Next time we’ll stick to Costa.

Our go-to place for cake. They are all of such high quality and there's always so much choice. Would highly recommend their carrot cake and chocolate fudge cake!

Just started work at a nearby restaurant and paninis for my break from Toms have been amazing so far, had goats cheese, mozzarella, rocket red peppers and chilli jam one one day and then tomato mozzarella and pesto today and a cheeky huge slice of cranberry and buttermilk cake, all to takeout and speedy friendly service, thanks all and will probably be back tomorrow 😁

Most amazing cakes, and far too much choice!

Delicious gluten and dairy free cakes. Excellent taste and a nice range of options. Nice little cafe. It was really very busy on Sunday morning, obviously not their fault but worth going at quieter times to really enjoy it properly.

Excellent cakes! Tasty hot drinks for a reasonable price! Very busy and rightly so, they were short staffed so no proper cutlery (just single use recyclable plates & cutlery) but considering how short staffed they were the service was exemplary.

Having read about this place I was eagerly anticipating a visit but I was a little disappointed. There’s no doubting the cakes and fancies on offer – a superbly prepared range of traditional English fare that is easily a few notches above the usual chains...

I think this is probably the first good review I’ve ever given but it has to be done. Tom’s cakes are incredible. I’ve been to the Saint Ives store 4 times now and i’ve had something different every time, and every time time it has been amazing. The cakes look and taste amazing, the coffees are really good, the sausage rolls are also top quality. The store itself is really well presented, staff are pleasant. Even the font is amazing. The best thing is that it is roughly the same price as a major chain like Costa but it really is head and shoulders above. Well worth visiting. 👏🏻

Lovely little cafe in St Ives with some outdoor seating available. Great selection of vegan cake options. I had the vegan rich chocolate cake, and an almond milk latte which were both excellent! Treat yourself here :)
