I was in St Neots for just one night and I just needed somewhere to get my head down having read the other reviews I wasn’t expecting much and I wasn’t disappointed. Refurbishment probably should have happened a decade ago. However the welcome was 5 Star the room was warm and the bed was comfortable with quality linen and I got a good nights sleep. The Nags Head is an easy walk into town where there are some great restaurants and just under half an hour walk to the railway station.

This is our second visit to this establishment. Fantastic service and brilliant food. We have several dietary requirements in our party, and after a couple of e-mails, Louisa and her team had it sorted! And there were no problems on the day. The beef was melt-in-your mouth tender, the vegetables were great and a delicious apple crumble. Not one complaint from us, and believe me, that in itself is quiet a task. We will definitely be back. My recommendation to anybody thinking of eating here..... book early. Its getting a reputation as the place for Sunday lunch. Nice one guys!

We come here for Sunday lunch about once a month. The food is great and the prcing excellent. Its family owned and run with the family very much 'hands-on' with a can-do attitude. I always feel a place where the owners are directly involved has the edge and this is certainly the case here.Last comment seemed to be about a different restaurant altogether - there is no service charge, just tip as you feel approriate so no question of having to ask for the service charge to be removed!

The service was slow and the food was poor - if this is "English" food, it's no wonder our food is so derided! Our food took ages to arrive, but when it did arrive it was of a low standard (undoubtedly not cooked to order). The service was unhelpful - when asking for a side salad with tagliatelle it would have been nice to be told that it was served with salad anyway (i.e. lots of gritty lettuce and a couple of slices of tomato) so why would I want another bowl full of gritty lettuce and another couple of slices of tomato (and no dressing)? The dining room lacked any atmosphere - it was very brightly lit and there was no background music. The tables in one half of the dining room had white tablecloths, the rest didn't, which looked odd - maybe this was so that they could be quickly cleared ready for breakfast.

My partner and I went to the Nags Head for Sunday lunch. We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome, and despite not booking it was not an issue. We opted for the 3 course lunch. I had a gorgeous pea and spinach homemade soup. It was lovely, full of flavour and could tell it was not out of a tin! Whilst my partner opted for the prawn cocktail - a nice sized portion of prawns with fresh salad. We both opted for roast dinner (lamb for me and beef for my partner). The meat was tender, veg fresh and overall delicious. For desert we were pleasantly surprised to discover they were homemade so opted for strawberry cheesecake and rhubarb and apple crumble. Again both were lovely. Total cost £34 which included glass of wine, pint of lager and a diet coke. I would recommend this place to anyone for Sunday lunch. Great value. I''ve been to the Grill Room several times before (see my previous glowing review) and have always been impressed by the food - until now. Most recently we went for a Christmas dinner with a group of friends and I have to say that some of us were much less impressed this time. The broth was too salty to eat, the game pie was disappointingly dry and chewy, the steaks were OK but served without a sauce (why?) and even the sticky toffee pudding was a bit of a letdown. I really, really hope this experience was just a one-off because I was genuinely surprised that the meal was so far inferior to the others I have enjoyed there over the last year. I will give The Grill Room another go in the future, hoping that this 'blip' has something to do with the Christmas menu and doesn't mean this very promising restaurant has changed forever.

Ive been to the Grill Room twice for steak:First visit : table for 2. The waitress was friendly but didnt seem confident in what she was doing and i had to repeat of alot of my order. I ordered a medium rare fillet steak which arrived very well done. It had also been part cut through horizontally, the chef presumably did this to check how well done it was (?!). It was a shame because the quality of the beef seemed very good despite it being over-cooked. They also forgot my side order of peppercorn sauce and I had to wait for them to make it while my steak sat getting cold.Second visit : table of 8 people, 6 ordered steak. The waitress was friendly but service was again confused. We all got the wrong steaks and basic things like putting out steak knives before the steaks arrived were not done so we all sat lookling at our steaks while they looked around for steak knives. . The quality of the beef was good. My peppercorn sauce order arrived on time but was just hot cream with 2 peppercorns at the bottom and didnt taste of anything. I ordered an irish coffee to finish that tasted of creamy coffee and could detect no whiskey. Summary : friendly and nice interior, good quality ingredients and good wine selection. Sadly let down by poor execution and confused service.

The Nags Head was best known as a reasonably priced B & B, catering for sales reps weeknights and a safe haven for wedding guests at weekends. Not any more. Chef Matin Scott and wife Sarah have refurbished the former dining room to offer 'Fine Dining' with locally sourced produce in an intimate atmosphere. We visited for lunch last Sunday and were suprised to find the dining room full. We were offered a drink from the bar and the menu in the cosy adjacent lounge whilst our table was prepared. I then discovered why the restaurant was so popular. For just £14.95 there was choice from four starters, four mains and three desserts - or £12.95 for two courses for the less hungry. For our main course we plumped for the roast beef - it was Sunday after all - which arrived with fresh vegetables, crisp roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings Auntie Bessie would be proud of.In summary the staff were courteous and attentive and the food and wine faultless. We can't wait to return on a Saturday evening to try the a la carte menu and reckon the Grill Room is the most exciting eaterie to open in St Neots for a long, long time.

Our first visit was around Christmas when we were part of a bigger party and, never having heard of the place before, we were wonderfully surprised by the excellent quality of the food, the smart decor and attentive service. The menu is a sensible length, offering something to everyone's taste including fish and vegetarian options for both starters and main courses. After getting a rare night without the little one we decided to head out for a meal. A quick search bought this up and although we'd never been before and the website was a little poor we decided to give it a try, especially since some relatives had used the Inn facility for B&B several times and recommended it.The meal itself was superb, my partner had a 10oz Rib Eye which was served with home cut chips and a great little salad presented well and with a Stilton Sauce. My meal was an 8oz Fillet steak served again with home cut chips, salad and a Pepper Corn Sauce, we also added a side of Onion Rings and Mushrooms. We were both very impressed, the steak was amazing and cooked exactly as ordered! Our only minor negative was the Sauces, both seemed a little thin and lacked the flavour you would hope for, especially when compared to the rest of this delicious meal! The deserts offered were home made and we had a very good selection of 4-5 different options with varied accompaniments, my partner had the Lemon Tart and I went for the Double Chocolate Cheese Cake. Both deserts were well presented, my Cheese Cake was delicious, however my partner felt the Lemon Tart was lacking the kind of kick she would like in a desert of this type but it certainly didn't stop her enjoying it :)We would definitely visit again, and would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.
