We handling here every now and again because we love sitting by the small canal and watching the wildlife. The food is good value. I really enjoyed the Waldorf salad today which was fresh and tasty along with cheesy garlic bread which was a perfect side.

We went as a family of 15 people (4 separate families). To keep things simple, the staff suggested setting up 4 individual tabs, so we could all order for our own families and not have the hassle of trying to split the bill at the end. This worked perfectly and made it a very easy experience. The food was excellent and it all came out in a reasonable time, considering there were so many of us. All of the staff were very attentive and incredibly helpful. We would definitely return again, as the kids especially enjoyed the play area.

Our favourite place to go for a Sunday lunch or evening meal. We've been a good few times as part of a larger family group or as a couple and every time they excel. Be it the food, the choices on the menu, the drinks selection (really nice local ales on tap). The staff are always friendly, patient when dealing with people who are less able at times. That goes for every staff member we've had the pleasure of serving us during our many visits.

My friend and I visited here after receiving a recommendation from family. The sun was shining and there were several people sat outside but we opted to go inside. The tables are plentiful but it all felt a bit disjointed with two rooms inside, a covered area on the patio so to speak and then a couple of tables by the canal. We opted for an internal room but spent most of the evening in there alone after other customers left which didn’t really lend itself to a good ambiance. The canal, itself, is green and sludgy. Can’t blame that on the pub but disappointing all the same when you look on a map and expect it to be alongside water but that’s our fault for not checking it out. There was an extensive menu plus specials. I opted for the venison burger and my friend had the pork belly. It does explain on the menu that the food is freshly cooked but we waited between 30-45 minutes for our food which seemed rather long. The food was tasty and plentiful but there was no wow factor for me. It was a pleasant evening, the staff were friendly but not really high on our list to return.

Lovely family run pub in a gorgeous location by the canal with a beautiful awning for windy wet days and a decking for sunny ones too. The garden has a lovely little park for families and is grassy ideal for some of the music afternoon/nights we've spent here enjoying local singers and talent. Food is really lovely and the family can't do enough to please their customers, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and a fabulous pub for locals which we'll be back to again and again. Thanks so much! Great for a walk or a cycle ride too in a gorgeous location for the Severn Bore as well. Now they have a few rooms to let too. Before the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal was built for ships, sailing trows plied the dangerous tidal bends of the River Severn with every imaginable kind of cargo. Framilode is where they first came inland along the Stroudwater Navigation in the 1770s, changing Gloucestershire forever as the Industrial Revolution began. Ten years later, the Thames & Severn Canal finished the connection across the top of the Cotswolds to London, making this sleepy village the first stop on the fastest route from Bristol and the Midlands to the capital. That's how the Ship Inn got its name, and it's wonderful to see the history still so evident here. For 150 years, this waterway is how Stroud and Cirencester got their coal from the free miners of the Forest of Dean. This bypassed section of canal is now known as the Old Stroudwater, and won't be restored for boats to visit, but it's lovingly maintained as a beautiful nature reserve with clear water, reeds and many happy birds. The garden outside is a lovely place to sit and remember the crews of the Severn Trows that used to moor here for a pint. They're also dog-friendly, which is always lovely. Friendly staff and locals here.

Just a splash of tiny chopped peppers and a bit of sweetcorn. All cheese and tomato paste but very little else. Husband had ham and mushroom. Very little ham or mushroom. Filled the gap but that it. Very disappointing as we love this pub but won’t be getting takeaway pizza anytime soon.

Visited last night for a birthday meal and can say the welcome and atmosphere was great! Made to feel valued from arrival till leaving, it’s a family run pub and that shows with the love and care given to all, so friendly especially nice that they take time to talk to everyone The food was delicious and all my allergies were catered for without any issues. My son phoned with a special birthday request ‘could they make a gluten free vegan dessert, if possible’ and honestly the chefs excelled with a zillionaire chocolate torte and candle .. this should definitely be added to the menu .. it was delicious! Compliments to the chef and everyone working there for making my 60th birthday meal an evening we will talk about for years! If you are passing or moored at Saul junction.. it’s a lovely 15 min flat walk from canal to pub and well worth it! Highly recommended Thanks again, we will be back!

Food lovely - we had a feta salad ( delicious and would have again ) and chicken/stilton Waldorf salad, still nice but would be better without rind left on stilton (no idea why this would be case by any chefs?!) and improved if chicken could be served warmed maybe as preference? Great setting but wooden tables/benches deffo need an upgrade in front garden area - many falling to pieces and potentially liability if someone sat on some of them and fell through etc

Booked in advance to confirm now open Tuesdays (current website is .uk, not .com). Very welcoming, spotlessly clean and new decoration, quality furnishings etc. Lovely setting alongside cleared section of Stroudwater Canal and only short walk fro River Severn (Severn Way etc). We were moored a short walk away at Saul Junction, meeting friends who had driven some way, from Chippenham Good beers & ciders, but whilst some menu items seemed standard pub grub, the presentation, quality and taste was stunning, per pictures below. Then whilst rather full looked at desserts and again stunning. Quality restaurant standard, indeed better than many we have been to and lovely environment

This is our second visit , both times for food first time wasn’t great but thought we would give it another try.....we went for lunch on Easter Monday, sat outside it wasn’t very busy...ordered chilli and nachos and onion rings. My son had gammon and my daughter tuna and sweet corn baguette. Very disappointed the chilli did not taste of chilli infact it had no taste at all and there were no salsa and guacamole as stated on menu. The onion rings were very thinly sliced but not cooked fully (last time they were chunky and nice) my sons gammon very bland and fatty and my daughters baguette contained mostly sweetcorn. No one checked if we were happy so therefore didn’t mention while we were there. Sorry to say won’t be going again.

Not being local to the area, it did take some time and effort to make the trek here - but it was a pleasant walk and very much worth it. I opted for the halloumi and beetroot burger as there weren't many other veggie options on the menu which sparked my interest, however it wasn't to my liking. In a time when there are so many truly delicious veggie burgers sold in supermarkets, I do expect a bit more from a veggie option than veg and cheese. The staff were friendly and, regardless of the room for improvement, I would come again; although it would likely be for pints and not food.

On arrival we found a large car park with plenty of spaces. Entrance through the door at the front into bar area. People sat eating by the door and it must’ve been annoying for them with everyone coming in and draughty. We arrived just before one. Ordered drinks at the bar and lunches. Sunday lunch was good sized portion. Beef a little on the chewy side. Vegetables good choice. Not a fan of the cabbage and cauliflower cheese bit bland. Needed cheese toasting on top. Saw someone eating pigs in blankets and they looked great. Desserts a bit on the expensive side. We all left feeling quite full. I would say that the service charge really annoyed me as it’s a pub that not a high end restaurant and I would’ve left a tip of my choice not what the pub decides. We’ve given this place a 4 but I think it’s more a 3.5/5 7/10. Friendly staff and they welcome dogs. The ones in there today were very well behaved
