This was our first visit to Black Horse to eat since the refurbishment of the Pub. A most enjoyable family occasion, made so, by the relaxed ambience, excellent food and curteous, friendly staff. The easy access for disabled to the upstairs dining area added to the overall experience Recommended !

Found this little gem whilst staying in a local hotel - we wanted too find something very Cotswold ! The staff were friendly , knowledgeable and helpful The menu was small, however , plentiful! Whilst the Sunday roasts looked great ( we will return for one of those !) We chose a small bite - A burger and chips along with a bowl of curried potato soup . Wow ! Neither disappointed! Triple cut chips - succulent burger - with as twist on your regular ! And the soup was filling and delicious served with rosemary bread ! Looking forward to our return !

This was a recommendation from a local couple, and we are so glad that we listened! Booking for food is advised, as they get busy, and we can see why. The pub atmosphere and decor was typically Cotswold village. The service was friendly and attentive from the moment we arrived, to the moment that we left. Food was outstanding, menu was carefully thought out and presentation was stunning - this is more than just pub grub. They need some Rosettes!!!

Joey and Carina looked after us with exceptional service, making us feel truly welcome from the moment we walked in. The service was fantastic, attentive without being overbearing, and always with a warm smile. The food was nothing short of brilliant. The chef's creativity shone through every dish, offering a delightful blend of flavors and presentations that exceeded our expectations. Each course was a testament to the culinary skill and passion found in the kitchen. Adding to the charm was the cozy atmosphere. The fire was on, casting a warm and inviting glow throughout the pub. It made for the perfect setting to enjoy a relaxing meal with friends and family. We were also excited to hear about the upcoming Airbnb at the back of the pub. It's clear that the Black Horse pub is committed to providing a comprehensive and memorable experience for its guests, and we look forward to trying out the new lodgings once they are ready

Had Sunday lunch here recently after not visiting for a long time due to various reasons. It was delicious, portions are large so forego the starters unless you have a big appetite. All roasts come with Yorkshire pudding, roasted veg/potatoes, gravy/sauce and you can order cauliflower cheese as a side. This is probably the best cauliflower cheese we've ever had in a pub. There are also other options for people who dont want a roast, we particularly recommend the risotto. Dessert was also fantastic, especially the dark chocolate delice. Service was very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. We are so happy the Black Horse has reopened and we won't be taking such a long time about our next visit.

During my recent visit to The Black Horse in Cranham, Gloucester, I was so impressed by the food and drink, making this charming pub a must-visit for any food enthusiast. I wanted to try a selection of food for lunch, so between 2 people we shared a main and three light bites. It was more than enough food! The buratta with candied peanuts was heavenly. The creamy buratta was perfectly balanced by the sweet crunch of the candied peanuts. I enjoyed the grilled courgette with tahini. The courgette was cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of char, and the tahini added a rich, nutty depth that complemented the vegetable beautifully. I don't usually choose sweet potato, but it was one of the highlights for me. The sweet potato was wonderfully crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, while the romesco sauce added a slightly smoky flavour, it was delicious. HOWEVER, the star of the show had to be the courgette and pecorino risotto. The risotto was so creamy and seasoned to perfection. It was topped with some sweet, juicy softened tomato's that did the perfect job of cutting through the lush richness. Then the pickled feta was a gorgeous tang. I enjoyed a Wolfpack pilsner which was so refreshing and delicious. I was super impressed by the drink selection. You can tell that both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic offerings have been carefully considered. Plus, the staff were so friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. You might just think this is 'another village pub' but I couldn't recommend it enough. You would never know how great the food, drinks and staff are until you get in there! Plus the location is beautiful so it's a great bonus. I just wish I lived closer to The Black Horse!

We were staying at an Airbnb nearby and came across this lovely old country pub. There was a relatively small menu but the dishes we had were excellent. Staff were courteous and the pub is dog friendly in the bar area and outside. It was a lovely evening so we were happy to sit out. I had the steak with peppercorn sauce and my wife had the chicken. Both dishes were delicious. I heard that this place had been reopened by the local community who rallied around and kept the local pub going. Well done folks. Highly recommended

Popped in for a mid week lunch. The pub has recently been bought by the community and refurbished beautifully, keeping all of the old character, whilst providing a much needed refresh. The main bar area has been opened to create more space and a sense of airiness. The lunch menu was a nice mix of classics done to a high standard and it was good to see several groups eating. I am coeliac, but the chef was happy to adapt menu items as everything is cooked fresh to order. I had a gluten free scotch egg with a delicious sweet potato side, my wife had a honeyed brie sandwich with chips and my daughter had the soup. The food was excellent and reasonably priced for high quality pub food. Will definitely be back and highly recommend a visit, especially if you haven’t been to the Black Horse for a while.

A fantastic local village pub in Cranham. Whenever I pay a visit I am struck by the warm welcome by owners David and Julie. The food is fantastic and a great range of ales available. I feel the need to add this review as I was also present when a previous reviewer arrived too late for food and felt this was reason enough to leave a poor review. Sour grapes from this person, who despite being treated with courtesy has attempted to leave an unfair review. Keep doing what you're doing so well please Black Horse

I too was sat at the bar when the Negative poster “RT” asked for a Menu and was told Food had finished. Perhaps the reply that Food had Finished had caused him to “take the hump”. I personally eat at this establishment 2 Lunchtimes a week having used it frequently until David and Julie decided to lease the business out about 2010? When I realised they'd taken over the reins again last year I was back like a shot, in the knowledge that I could enjoy good Ale and superb Homemade Food (and sometimes endure the Landlords “corny jokes”). This is the first bad Report I’ve come across either verbally or on a website. I personally will continue to use The Black Horse until at least the time it sadly passes ownership later in the year. At which time I will wish David and Julie a very well deserved Happy Retirement!!

I was at the bar when the previous reviewer came in. My experience was different, it was very busy at Easter & my Guinness & ale pie was great. Very slow service at the bar and when it eventually became my turn I asked for a menu. Yhis was at approximately 2:20pm. The man behind the bar (Landlord?) laughed and said "we're not doing lunch anymore". Minutes earlier he had been discussing food orders with those ahead of me There are many ways he could have handled this. Most obviously, "I'm so sorry we stop Don't go here! So many good pubs in the area: The Falcon in Painsiwck is great and the Royal William on the main A46 a few minutes away is helpful and polite with food all day.

Went here for our Mini-Moon. The food was AMAZING. I had the cornbread with bacon and avocado and haven't stopped talking about it 3 years on ha. Definitely recommend, popular location, parking available, friendly staff.

decent food staff a little underwhelming like everything was too much effort , will go back to see if anything has changed as a very nice cafe
