Lavender Bakehouse in Stroud

I absolutely love this cafe. The food is gorgeous and the service is oustanding. My favourite treat for sunny and rainy days. Tuna cheese melt on sourdough is a must.

One of my favourites and a regular to the Lavender Bakehouse. I highly recommend the sausage rolls, bacon sandwich on sourdough, they have recently reintroduced Shakshouka ( try it and tell me I'm right or wrong!)

Went here for our Mini-Moon. The food was AMAZING. I had the cornbread with bacon and avocado and haven't stopped talking about it 3 years on ha. Definitely recommend, popular location, parking available, friendly staff.

Absolutely fantastic afternoon tea

Afternoon Tea Easily one of the best we have booked for quality, value and service. Everything was fresh and plenty of it. Very happy to give this business full marks.

Beautiful little cafe and great presentation. The only reason the afternoon tea has been marked down is due to the fact our sandwiches and scones were fridge cold. Doesn't give a sense of being premium when you know they've just come out of a fridge. Going forward would be good if they got to room temperature before being served as feeling the food is freshly prepared gives a better experience. Also I personally love warm scones. Those amends would have given the afternoon tea a 5 star.

Ordered a fruit scone. Didn't receive a fruit.scone. when I asked why was.told they didn't have any..why was I not.told.this.when I ordered?????

Oh dear, another great buisness has changed hands and standards have plumetted. Full breakfast was luke warm, bacon tough, sausage with no sustance, poached eggs solid and the toast, well how can you not toast bread. My wife had smashed avacado and poached eggs on toast with roasted tomato and red onion, what she got was a bruised avacado sliced on toast, two ok poached eggs, two tiny warm cherry tomatoes and raw red onion. Very, very disappointed, and will not return.

This is an excellent place. We had afternoon tea here as part of a birthday celebration. I'm coeliac so I required a gluten free version. I've had gluten free afternoon teas before and have found the bread, scones and cake disappointing. Here everything was delicious even the scones. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was good. Can recommend without hesitation, and will definitely return.

What a lovely afternoon spent at the coffee shop.

Although I absolutely love the lavender bake house, it’s not completly accessible for those who need a downstairs toilet! Which has stopped quite a lot of people from enjoying this experience unfortunately!

Popped in to get a couple of coffee’s, kept waiting for ages and then the icing on the cake people being given there’s before us but had ordered after.

Exceptional food and wonderful service

I called in to use gift vouchers that I had been given as a present. Ample parking and lovely warm atmosphere on entering the premises. All staff were friendly, polite and efficient. My items were boxed to take away. The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and the delicious food and smoothies were of a very high quality. Would definitely recommend.

Walked up from Brimsconbe along the Canal Path and stopped on a summers day for a Salad Platter, Iced Tea and Ice cream, it was a great experience and great place to have lunch

Lovely independent cafe in a great location. Famous for the cakes but equally good for a light lunch. The midweek afternoon tea is exceptionally good value and highly recommend. There is free parking on site as well as some outdoor seating on a nice day.

Arrived for tea and cake around 3.30 . The staff were kind and helpful . We had a pot of tea for two with two generous portions of cake . I would highly recommend this cafe for its quality of food and helpful staff . They even provided a box as I couldn’t eat all of my cake so I could enjoy it later . Thank you 😄

Third time eating lunch here and it has gone downhill for sure. Awful lunch today - 2 pathetic sandwiches and over sweetened juice as “iced teas”. Both sandwiches had 3 scraps of chicken slices, no flavour at all. Coronation chicken one just had a thin smear of sauce on the bread. Nothing else on the sandwiches… a very sad meal for £30… better off at M&S. Maybe just a place for coffee.

A low key 75th birthday treat from my daughter who had pre booked a table for 5 of us for 11am. The place was packed which is always a good sign, especially as it is not in a town centre. There is a wide choice of hot and cold food, and the homemade cakes are mouthwatering. Difficult to choose just one! Service was relaxed (no pressure to order immediately) and staff were friendly and polite. Our varied choices were all very tasty, hot and served all at the same time. There is one thing missing here and that is an accessible toilet for people with disabilities. The prices are competitive and compare favourably with other places serving similar food. We were not rushed which, for a small business, is unusual. There is a small car parking area and on-road parking. Chalford is a 30 minute drive for us but worth it. I will definitely be returning in the future.

The Lavender Bakehouse is a lovely place to meet friends and while away an afternoon. Food is good and freshly made (especially the cakes) but a bit on the pricey side for what you get.

Basically ignored by the two girls chatting, asked for 2 sausage rolls to take away had to wait until my order passed across to other counter, then given them in a bag, Cost was £8-50p!!!, outrageous price, beware this place thinks it's more than it is, I will never go back there again, I pass it every day, sausage rolls in a butchers I pass daily are £2-25p each and I'm sorry they are superior to yours. I hope you maybe look at your prices, £4-25p for a sausage roll to take away is a bit steep!!!

My absolute favourite place that I can always depend on having a nice time at. The food is homemade and delicious, and the cakes are lovely too. A real hidden gem and worth the visit! As they have cute shop upstairs and a homely atmosphere

What has happened to Lavender Bakehouse? I’ve been lots of times over the years but today was like none other. I arrived and was given a table (in need of a clean). A menu arrived shortly afterwards. I wanted to look at the cakes so went up to the counter. When I went back to my seat happy with my choice my menu had disappeared. I waited given minutes for someone to take my order. No one came or caught my eye. I went to the counter after popping up to the loo (stair rail, door handles and toilets all in dire need of a good clean as they’re all greasy) to ask if it was table service still. The girl said yes. She came over to my table and told me I had to wait to be seated by a member of staff next time and no one saw me come in. I said I had been seated, and explained what happened. She clearly thought I was lying. I felt uncomfortable and left, heading up to The Boho Bakery in Chalford who welcomed me with friendly, clean, efficient loveliness.

Lovely little coffee shop on the edge of Stroud. Very good service and nice choice of cakes.

Wow, delicious lunch of toasted sandwiches and salad enjoyed by our family of 5. We have also loved the cream teas here last week. Lovely friendly welcoming atmosphere …. Even of our dog after a walk. Superb!

A beautiful festive afternoon tea, would recommend.

My family and I came this morning hoping to have a nice breakfast together. None of the food was very warm, but the dish my mum ordered included poached eggs, and when they came stone cold she asked for them to be heated up. She also pointed out that her tomatoes were completely raw and was told that they were not supposed to be cooked, despite the menu literally saying ‘roasted vine tomatoes’. We were very disappointed by the service we received after that; the member of staff who brought the plate back over threw it down in front of my mum and walked off without saying anything. I don’t usually write reviews, but as somebody who has worked in customer service I was appalled by this. It was not only immature, but also made my mum feel really uncomfortable for making a very reasonable and presumably quite common request. When we went to pay at the counter, my mum asked for this staff member’s name as she was planning on complaining to the manager about her service. The two members of staff on the till were both very unfriendly towards us. They told us she was ‘out the back’, then backtracked and said they didn’t know who it was, before telling us her name. My mum chose not to complain in the end, however I’ve decided to leave a review because it upset me to see my mum upset when she was excited to treat us to a nice breakfast out, and I don’t feel customers paying a lot of money for your food should be made to feel like this just for making a simple request. An unpleasant experience overall.

Fantastic place, eaten in a few times with my nan, often get a take out. Always busy which is great to see. Wide range of things to eat always hard to decide which cake to choose. Staff are friendly and polite even when busy serving they always try to show they have noticed you and not get ignored like a few places.

I arrived here at 10:30, with a shocking hangover. Had eggs Benedict with salmon, extra sausages. The food was exceptional and the waitresses were attentive, pleasant and even asked if I was feeling better. I actually ended up spending 4 hours here having tea, cake and lunch throughout as it was such a lovely experience. Not a bad word to say about it. It does get busy at lunchtime! Keep it up. I’ll be back!

Very disappointed. Table booked for a group birthday celebration most of the menu had run out, so reduced to whatever was left.No baguettes, no soup, 3 croissants over microwaved, soggy sough dough sausage sandwich. Altogether very poor offerings. This is unusual but feel this was not good enough for full price charged.I didn't feel I could complain as it wasn't paid for by me and the staff were under pressure .

Oh what a lovely find. Went for breakfast before are drive back to Kent. We also was allowed to take our big furry dog into too. I had sausages, eggs on brown toast and it was the best 👌 👍. My husband had eggs benedict with salmon and said it was the best he has had . Also had tea for 2 again delicious. We felt the price was good. Also bought some cake to go and had a look in the gift shop upstairs and brought some cards and Christmas decorations. Would highly recommended a visit.

We came in for lunch and left a little under-whelmed. Two friends ordered sandwiches which were epic and they had no issues with. One friend has the Bakehouse Platter which he said was nice but just felt like a load of random things had been loaded onto a plate. I ordered the Chilli Platter. The amount of chilli on it was very small and there was absolutely no heat or spice. Also, although I don't believe it was advertised as a vegetarian chilli, there seemed to be no meat in it. That was a shame because the staff were incredibly friendly and it's a lovely venue, Oh, but I do challenge the sense of allowing someone to let their baby stand on a surface used for serving food.

Generally a good spot. However things conspired for it to be a really poor experience today. I double checked the wait staff had the correct order, but the one dish still came out wrong - and the replacement had clearly been nuked beyond hell in the microwave. Another customer had a dog which kept barking - be dog friendly, but also ask customers to sit outside if it needs to bark. Food is getting a little lazier over time, and waiting 15 minutes for drinks to turn up is aggravating. Simply, I reckon the place is resting on its laurels

Disappointing food even though It’s a good location and friendly place My shashuka was like a bland flavourless vegetable stew with a limp poached egg on top.

Staff were very friendly and attentive. Good selection of food unless you're a vegan! Food was very nice but not cheap.

Great cafe and great food - when it's available! We rocked up at lunchtime and was told the chef was on his/her lunch break so the menu choice was somewhat limited. That said my New York Salt Beef sandwich was pretty lush so I'd still go back - hopefully when the chef isn't on a lunch break 😂 The pic is the view from the car park across the road.

I recently visited the Cafe here with my family and when I asked if there was a disabled toilet was told no,I had to walk up a very steep flight of stairs and when I got to the top I couldn't breathe for quite a while !! I thought it was law in England to have disabled toilets? The food was excellent though the coffee was not great Great Grandma Harvey

Went there on a recommendation from somewhere else we visited close by. Parking was good and managed to get a space even though it was lunchtime. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. Well priced for the portion sizes with lots of choice. The only tiny niggle (which isnt awful) was that the staff didnt have much direction and we had to go to the counter to see what was happening with regards to ordering and then reordering dessert. Not the end of the world (im not lazy so just got up) so it didn't bother me but i think it would bother others. I would still highly recommend this place to others.

OK to decent coffee shop, I didn't try the coffee, I came to have full English breakfast. There are not many parking spaces, so arrive early, you may get blocked in but the staff are aware of this. The breakfast was OK, it was above greasy spoon cafe quality but there was no baked beans, or black pudding. It was OK, the sourdough bread was nice though. The pancakes were good, as was the milkshake. On the first floor there is a shop selling clothes, kids books, toys crafts etc.

I needed somewhere to base myself between work appointments so visited this cafe this morning. It is a lovely friendly place, staff are welcoming and the tea and coffee is great… as for the cherry and almond cake- what can I say? I took some home with me… too delicious!

I’ve called here twice now when out on the motorbike. The cakes are fantastic and you get a good portion and a good latte and I’ve has a good pot of tea there too.

Arrived without booking but they managed to squeeze the 6 of us in. Lovely food on offer. A packed place which says a lot

Fell upon Lavender Bakehouse and am so pleased we did! Excellent and scrummy menu selection whatever the time of day served by lovely friendly staff. Had to return to the area a second time a few days later and highlight of the trip was a return to Lavender Bakehouse. Thoroughly recommend a stop if you're passing.

Lovely place for afternoon tea with lots of cakes and treats to try. The portion sizes for the sandwiches per person was small but due to the amount of scones and sweet treats we weren't able to finish the whole tower. Some of the cakes with jam felt too sweet for my liking but tasty nonetheless. I especially enjoyed the raspberry tartlet and both sweet and savory scones. Cute crockery and very traditional tea party feel. The group loved it and especially enjoyed the aesthetics of the cafe.

Very nice café and polite friendly staff.

We stopped here by chance and it was 10 minutes before closure time. Staff were really friendly and helpful and although they could not get us a seat as they were closing, they offered us to grab something for takeaway. The cake slices were so delicious and moist, you could tell that they were home made. We'll definitely be back for a proper visit. Highly recommend.

Superb place to eat, my son treated me to a cream tea. It was the best I've had!

Sat outside , service slower than usual , eventually ordered food and drinks , this place never fails on quality .. but today something went very wrong ! I ordered a soup and a sandwich .. soup as good as usual , sandwich also very nice but !! The menu says sandwiches are served with salad and from experience always very good … today half a tomato and a leaf of flat leaf parsley .. I found it very amusing , after asking “ what happened to the salad “ the young lady bought out a little plate of the usual salad … picture to follow .

Amazing food staff are amazing I did think I had been forgotten about as I had to wait for nearly half an hour to order food.

We arrived with friends for breakfast. We were seated quickly and menus brought to us. Drinks arrived quick. Tea for me and hot chocolate for my partner. My partner had a full English and I had Eggs Benedict. Beautiful food good quality local produce cooked and served to a high standard. Will be back and will defiantly try some cake next time. Lovely surroundings and shop. Helpful happy staff.

Absolutely delightful place to stop off for lunch or just tea/coffee and a slice of cake. Staff are friendly and welcoming. You won't regret dropping in.
