Very warm and friendly atmosphere. I had roast dinner (chicken) which was moist and very flavourful. Gravy also superior to most other Sunday roast gravies. I saw a sticky toffe exit the kitchen that looked so good I'd have ordered one if I wasn't off the sweets right now!

Whilst it's not much to look at from the outside within is an absolute gem. The Old Spot is a fantastic specimen of a classic English country pub and clearly an important part of the local community with lots of regular events going on. We went for Sunday lunch and had a great meal. The food was excellent with good portions & reasonably priced. Staff were friendly & helpful even though it was busy. Whilst we didn't use it there's a lovely looking beer garden out the back which I'd gladly come back & enjoy in future.

Very friendly pub. Didn't eat but the food looked good. Beautiful outdoor space. Keg craft selection a little disappointing but my local is the Butchers Hook in Thornbury and they specialise in great craft beers.

A good old town centre pub, don't be misled by the exterior, it's has a neat old-style interior. Not a large array of beers on tap but Otter Brewery at least so I was happy. A good range of dishes available without being over complicated. The fish pie was a success, the chunky chips were deemed "excellent" and the two starters were very good although the bhajis were overcooked and slightly dry. The only blot on the horizon was the soup which though thick and hot was infused with far too much wild garlic. The puds (Sticky toffee and crème brulée) were also of a high standard, so much so that 3 on the table of 5 next to us changed their orders! So 4/5 for food (the soup) and 4/5 for service because it took 45 minutes for the mains to arrive. Now while I appreciate the pub was well attended and this could cause a queue we were not once kept informed as to how long the food might be and therefore became more agitated as the time passed by. In the end I was forced to enquire when the meal was due. Apart from that the staff were friendly and helpful. With coffees it was £100 for the 4 of us. Parking seemed plentiful across from the PH and a nice walk up to and around the golf course with views across to the Severn. Sorry no photos 🙈

Popped in for lunch again with a friend Tues 05/03/2024 and food was mediocre. I was disappointed with my lunch of cauliflower cheese. It lacked the depth of strong cheddar and I thought it would have benefited from some/more? Dijon mustard and perhaps a pinch of nutmeg. The salad was a few leaves, some of which were squashed under the pot of cauli cheese, and a small baguette, which I suspected was a heated shop-bought half-baked one and little to eat it with so half was left because it was so boring. My friend said her beef burger with chips, salad and slaw was okay but standard fare. With so much competition from other foodie pubs, lunches should ideally be excellent ALL the time with no to little shortcuts (at least ones that are so obviously apparent) along with care and attention when plating. Especially important when food is only served lunchtime here. Visited today Thurs 18/01/2024 and my companion and I enjoyed delicious lunches. Starters of potato & leek soup and croquettes, mains of blade of beef and Tuscan chicken + 2 pints Uley Brewery's Pigor Mortis dark ale and 2 glasses of white Pinot Grigio, all for £61.75. It was completely frozen outside and a good warming lunch in a warm welcoming pub was wonderful! They don't add a service charge to the bill but we left a cash tip because the manager and server were excellent at their jobs and friendly and helpful. The Old Spot only serves food at lunchtime and not in the evening. Update: Popped in for a light lunch Sat 09/12/2023 and, to our relief, the food's improved again. My husband enjoyed sticky chicken wings with salad garnish and fries and I had a mug of potato and leek soup, which was delicious, and a half sandwich of cheese and pickle. Afew people eating there. Good atmosphere in the main bar with regulars enjoying a pint. UPDATE 04/2022: Sadly my review below no longer stands. The excellent chef/cook has obviously moved on and the food has returned to not only what it was before but has deteriorated. It was also quite empty so it's losing custom. The Old Spot has really upped its game with its food. It remains a nice pub with a good bar and staff but the kitchen is definitely offering a more discerning menu.

It is a really lovely pub with a great atmosphere and great beer but hands down the worst ploughman’s I’ve ever seen. It was crap. No chutney, not enough bread to go with the cheese after the soup. Not even given a spoon for the soup. Nothing more to say!

We were on holiday near Dursley and The Old Spot had been recommended to us. So, having also read these reviews we wanted to give it a try. I emailed to ask if they allowed dogs, rang 3 times to ask if they were open Monday lunchtimes but hot no reply at all. So, if they can't be bothered, neither can we - there are plenty of good alternatives in the area.

The best pub in the area, easily. Hasn't succumbed to becoming a restaurant that calls itself a pub as, unfortunately, a lot have. The main theme is beer and whatever the wife is drinking. They do food at lunchtime which is good however, its remains good simple pub food and they haven't gone down the road of providing fancy food. Good on them. Ambience is great, service is great, people are friendly, and dogs more than welcome as are muddy walkers. They even have vegan friendly beer if you're that way inclined...

This was our first visit to the Old Spoit and it certainly will not be our last - absolutely excellent Sunday roast - the biggest yorkshire pudding I have ever seen, served filled with roast beef, roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy. Haven’t eaten here for a while although we drink here regularly so thought we would swing by for a Wedding Anniversary lunch. We weren’t looking for anything too grand but I struck lucky as my favourite roast chicken with stuffing baguette was on the specials. Absolutely lovely with some of the best fries ever and a top dipping sauce (gravy lol). Loved it. My wife had a sandwich too and we shared a lovely treacle tart with ice cream. Great service and my wife is a little fussy so never orders straight from the menu! So quite a simple lunch for us but very well executed and the pub has a lovely, friendly atmosphere topped off with golden Autumn sunlight beaming in and reflecting off the ale pump brass. All made for a lovely afternoon.

Came for a family lunch (10 of us & 2 dogs) unfortunately a bit chilly for those at the end by the door to the beer garden, but we understand its a small pub. Lovely tasty food, but sadly lacking in portion size. The mediterranean bowl (2 of us avoiding gluten) was more like a starter and at £13 not value for money, similar with the pork steak. This was comparing them to the plate fulls that were had with the burgers and fish and chips for £1 & £2 more. The extra chips for £3.50 were a sad small portion too. We did mention it to staff and were brought some extra steamed veg, but it didn't really make up for lack of spicy vegetables in the bowl. Such a shame, as it tasted good. We get together several times a year for lunch and are always looking for good places and this is a bonus as being a short walk away from my fathers house. We may give it a go again and stick to fish and burgers next time, but slightly bigger portions wouldn't go amiss.

It’s a shame because this used to be one of the best pubs in the area for Sunday lunch but we’ve just had one of the worst eating out experiences ever. The service was very poor; the waitress had no idea what draught beers were available and one of our starters only arrived once prompted. The main arrived well over an hour from ordering and we had watched, in increasing disbelief and anger, while everybody else, all of whom had arrived and ordered well after us, received their food before us. When finally our mains did arrive my beef was grisely and the parsnip raw. At least the dog will be happy with the meat. Shant go again.
