The Beckford Bottle Shop in Bath and North East Somerset

Amazing restaurant, awful service. I hate to write a bad review as someone who works in hospitality but this was a particularly bad experience ! Today we headed to the beckfrord bottle shop for some dinner and a glass of wine. We were told that we had the table until 8pm which we expressed was completely fine ! However, the waitress (dark hair, glasses and checked grey overshirt) made us feel totally uncomfortable from the moment we arrived. We were rushed to order drink and then food, she was panicked almost from the moment we sat down. We asked for a minute so we could all discuss what we wanted to order and she was clearly very unimpressed at this. Everything seemed fine again and different members of staff brought us our food and were friendly and accommodating. Then it came to 7.40pm and the rushing and rudeness came back and worse. She asked us to pay the bill and we explained we’d already understood that we had to be done by 8 so could we enjoy our glasses of wine and pay at the end of the meal. She came back 2 minutes later and forced us to pay the bill with 20 minutes to go. This shouldn’t even have been on our mind, as we were trying to enjoy a nice meal. Why did there have to be such a stress on the time limit when being out for dinner ! As I mentioned above, I work in hospitality and I’m very used to annoying customers etc. However, we are a pretty laid back group of people. This was such a shame as the food and wine was amazing, really she ruined what could have been such a lovely evening! I think maybe the waitress needed a break ?

Great wines and small plates! The pumpkin meringue pie is scrumptious! Wonderful atmosphere. The service was impeccable! A must to checkout while in Bath!

There are 3 words that describe this place: quality, quality, quality!

We had two absolutely amazing meals here—an evening of sharing plates and lovely wines, and then an absolutely stunning “supper club” evening of small dishes paired with amazing vintages. We were sat at a long common table next to people to whom we chatted and joked for two hours—how did the hosts know who to sit us next to? But somehow they did. Delicious food and a totally delightful experience.

Fantastic small plates! We got the chefs charcuterie board, cavatelli, broccoli and the potatoes. The clotted cream ice cream with the dessert wine pairing was incredible.

This is a cracking place. Superb small plate dining - if you don't mind small plates. Places like this are very rare, unpretentious, knowledgeable staff, beautiful and comfortable interior design, excellent menu. One can walk through and choose wine from their wine shop and there's no corkage charge - what could be better. Very good selection of off-the-beaten-track wines. One of the most enjoyable lunches we've had anywhere.

Amazing food. Really, so far best restaurant in the area. The wine list stands out - great selection and waiter kindly suggested to taste different options. One of the best places in Bath!

We discovered it by chance while walking. We noticed the plate of potatoes on one of the tables and decided to stay. We ate very very well, they have a variety of small plates to share, as well as assortments of cheeses and sausages. They also have good wines, they let us try several to choose the one we liked the most, a very good Argentine wine. Very friendly and attentive service.

I very much enjoyed the small plates menu with my partner at the Beckford Bottle Shop along with a few glasses of wine each. Our server Travis was very knowledgeable and attentive. He provided us with some great recommendations and really added to our experience. Needless to say, there is a huge selection of wine. The food surpassed our expectations - we enjoyed wine but would go back again for the food too!

Great wine ... great sharing plates

We stopped in for a drink after dinner. There are a number of tables and a large relaxed sofa area at the back. We enjoyed a great bottle of wine from their large selection. The small plates of for looked good but we'd already eaten. This felt like a 'grown ups' place with a great atmosphere and nothing too banging. We look forward to coming back.

I was in Bath for a day, it was my first time visiting, and a glass of the Catarratto was just what I wanted! The team is so so lovely, the space itself is gorgeous and what a great selection of wines to choose from. Can't ask for much more - I would certainly visit again!

An absolute gem of a find and unforgettable exlerience. An authentic wine shop and bar. Probably now our favourite! Personable, friendly and knowledgeable service. Extensive wine menu, beautiful location and aesthetically pleasing, both inside and out. We look forward to going back here when we next visit Bath. 🥂

Me and my partner have been here for drinks twice now and we've had perfect experiences both times. There's a wide range of drinks on offer, including numerous wines, but you can opt for something else if you prefer. Both times, service has been friendly and efficient, with staff happy to recommend wines based on our taste, and there's some really great wine here. Our go-to wine bar in the city.

This has to be one of the best spots in Europe, if not, Bath. It has insane amount of charm and nostalgia, not to mention the wine. Superb wine and also fab food. Plus the owner and staff could not be more lovely. Paul and his wife are gems, Charlie the owner is darling..thank you for this amazing experience ..please don't change a thing.

I really liked this restaurant and bottle shop. The food was very good, I only docked a star because the breaded oysters disappointed, otherwise everything was just lovely, beautifully planned, cooked and presented. But of course the wine is the main attraction and the selection was good, varied and again of great quality. There were a few of my favourites missing but not everyone agrees with my best picks. I especially liked their Pinot Noir, excellent. The atmosphere was perfect and the staff attentive friendly and knowledgeable. I unreservedly recommend it for a great evening.

A truly dreadful experience. Visited early evening to sample the Small Plates menu with my (adult) daughter. Venue was relatively quiet which suited us. We were served by the wine shop manager Travis and ordered a glass of wine and a cocktail along with 3 small plates. The drinks arrived in a reasonably timely manner but after approximately 40 minutes we made polite enquires as to the food which had not arrived. Received a very dismissive and uninterested response from the wine shop manager who then disappeared and shortly after delivered one of the small plates. Another 15 minutes passed before we enquired once again as to the remainder of our order, again another 10 minutes before the second of our three plates was delivered with no explanation or apology. Rather than wait again for our third small plate, we asked for the bill and left, it goes without saying we requested that the service charge be removed. Throughout the whole experience we were treated abruptly, dismissively and rudely, I can honestly say it is the worst service I have ever received anywhere. The management need to invest in a customer service course for their staff pronto and the wine shop manager perhaps needs to rethink his career choice.

A delightful wine bar and restaurant. We’ve popped in for some wine before and also dined there for an anniversary. The atmosphere is really nice and classy with plenty of great wines available. The service is great and the staff are really helpful recommending the wines.

Nice place to have different taste of quality wine. The food was excellent, Love the serene atmosphere too. I will always recommend here for people looking for a calm relaxation spot with the best type of wine to go with it. BTW; I also would like to recommend ZiX, he’s a private investigator who specializes at remotely getting into cell phones and pc without the target having a clue. He has helped me tremendously and I couldn’t thank him enough. Best works for individuals looking to catch a clever cheat or an employer who wish to have closer insight on their employees. Oh my gosh! The food, wine, and service are absolutely outstanding! & plus it’s a dog-friendly restaurant! 🐶❤️

I visited with my daughter who is at the university. The staff were very welcoming and the bistro was busy on a Tuesday evening which is always good to see. We ordered a selection of small plates. All were excellent with the standout dishes being the hake and chorizo, venison slices and the beetroot and goat’s cheese salad. We ordered a glass of the Provençal rose which was delicious. I thought it was great value and I look forward to returning.

Really lovely atmosphere with great food, wine, and friendly staff. I generally prefer standard meals, but every dish of small plates was excellent. More adventurous dishes than the canteen.

The taramasalata was excellent. The bath chaps were fairly underwhelming. Portions are on the daintier side. Asked for bread twice and it never came. The menu was short, staff were knowledgeable.

Went for the supper club. Food is great, service for those who aren’t drinking wine felt a bit less attentive.

Looks an amazing wine bar / restaurant we passed at lunch time and wanted to go in but the waitress was quite rude when we asked about a table so we didn’t bother, shame as it looks a fun place if you can put up with the snooty bxxxx

This is a place where one could spend endless hours sipping wine and soaking up the atmosphere. The wines are outstanding as is the service. The small plates are simple, honest food that complements the wine.

Really cosy and welcoming. Great staff who are really happy to help with wine choices. Small plates were all tasty but the burnt butter ice cream was just delicious. Only downside was a rubbish kitchen extractor as our clothes and hair smelt really strongly of fried food on leaving. Would recommend and have done so already.

I don’t usually write reviews but felt I had to after the phenomenal experience I had here. Went for a lunch with a friend and sat in the restaurant area. Welcomed by the staff who were lovely and friendly. But the real excellence started from the second we sat down. The staff were perfect - not intrusive but never not there when needed. Their knowledge of the menu was impeccable and guided us perfectly through the menu. The wine is outstanding and we received excellent recommendations - the knowledge of the wine and the pairings were perfect. The food was small plates and we had 6 between us which was perfect. An expected hour lunch ended 5 hours later and just had the most wonderful time. Thank you all!!

Great place to have a glass of fizz/wine and some food. The staff are so nice and knowledgeable and will give recommendations. I’m sad I’m not local as I’d be here all the time.

Had a couple of great titles of wine at a very good price

We didn’t find anything special to the food, we had higher expectations for a restaurant listed in the Michelin guide. We have been charged £23 for two glass (125ml) of non-alcoholic wine which we found excessive. Next time we will pay more attention to the price. The only very positive point of our night was the atmosphere, very romantic and chic.

Lovely surroundings, excellent service and top notch food and drink. Staff were lovely - could not fault it. Favourite dishes:- Anchovies on toast, roast beetroot & beetroot caramel, Shropshire blue rarebit, carrot sorbet & chocolate mousse. I want to eat it all again!

I enjoyed this spot, the staff was welcoming and willing to take time to explain the menu options and expectations. I ordered three or four tapas and enjoyed each very much. Let's not talk about their outstanding selection of wine and pairing. This spot I will return to when in Bath again! I went to this location on two seperate occasions for wine and for dinner and enjoyed both!

Really wonderful experience. The restaurant is quite unique set around a wine shop, it's nicely done and very cosy. Travis did an excellent job with his wine recommendations he clearly knows what he's doing. He recommended us some wine to take with us for a Sri Lankan meal we were cooking the next day which was absolutely spot on. The food was delicious, we stuck to the sharing plates. Our only complaint is that portions could be a little bigger for the price. Overall I highly recommend a visit.

An absolute disaster of a lunch. The bread was an extremely disappointing start, with the underwhelming cheese course to follow - although the cheese was the highlight of the afternoon. The small plates entailed cold sandy/grainy artichokes and an extremely unpleasant amount of garlic in the sprouts. A waste of time, money and food. Left dissatisfied, thirsty, hungry and regretful.

What a wonderful place this is. The atmosphere amongst the many bottles was fantastic and much of the food sublime. The prepared and cooked food, rather than the charcuterie boards which were thin and rather dull, was truly exceptional and demonstrates a real talent in the chef. Service was very polite and attentive but limited in terms of suggestions or pairings. I would definately go again and focus on lots of the small plates which were a real treat, this chef is going places!

Delicious food, friendly staff and cool environment. Restaurant is basically within a wine shop, which they have a large selections of good wine, that can pair with some very delicious food. Staffs were very friendly and professional (especially on wine suggestions). I think it was great that I will visit again in the future and recommend to friends and family.

We had the most wonderful time at Beckford Bottle Shop on Saturday for a lingering lunch. The small plates were all delicious (we had most of them and the table favourite was the Bath Chaps) accompanied by some wonderful wines and excellent service from Travis and the team who catered well for an allergy and were so passionate about the wine and food. Fabulous all round, will absolutely be back again.

Fantastic restaurant with a lovely intimate atmosphere. Small plates served separately so each could be enjoyed and savoured. Lovely wine choice to accompany the food. We were able to try a sample of wine to make our choice .

One day, as we were exploring parts of Bath we hadn't seen previously, we were coming back from a look at Hedgemead Park (quite lovely) when our desire for a nice lunch found us looking up and down the streets on our way back to the center of town and, lucky for us, my wife's keen eyes spied this storefront a block up and suggested we take a look. We first came upon the retail store and its impressive array of wines and other good things to drink and then proceeded to the next door, where we saw the signs offering good things to eat, so in we went to give it a try. We were offered a nice table in their dining area/bistro and handed menus that detailed their wine/food offerings, all of which sounded really appealing. We selected glasses of wine (three sizes of pours are available) and chose to try several small plates, including a serving of truly wonderful fried zucchini and a delicious array of sausages, cheeses and accompaniments on their charcuterie and cheese board. Everything was just perfect, portions were generous, and the service was truly friendly and helpful, which left us wanting for another branch of this place to open much closer to home. It looks like this place would be the perfect place to go for a meal on a warm summer day (it was a bit chilly on the day we visited), so if you find yourself in Bath on such a day, we'd strongly advise you to make your way on over to the BBS and indulge yourselves. Prices seemed quite fair, as well.

We stopped by this wonderful shop to buy some wine and beer to take back to our Airbnb. It was a very popular place, filled with people having a drink. They have a great selection of wines and were very helpful in helping us pick up some great wines.

What a wonderful spot. The staff were fabulous, the setting is delightful and the wine selection is fantastic. The dishes were little plates of precision, beauty and lots of flavour. The celeriac and the mussels were particular highlights, and the pumpkin pannacotta made us both smile. We will be back!

My wife and I stopped in to pick up a bottle for our dinner at the Crescent. Travis was incredibly helpful in selecting a Bordeaux. We enjoyed the ambience so we came back the next day and enjoyed their own white label Bordeaux which was an excellent value at a window table. They have a great curated selection of mostly old world wines. We will definitely return when visit Bath again.

Favourite dinner that we had in Bath! Atmosphere was so lovely and cosy, staff were really friendly and so helpful with the menu etc. And then the food and wine was just incredible! Really interesting flavours but we loved everything we tried.

Stopped off for a nightcap here with friends recently just because it looked interesting. We were shown to a large sofa and chairs at the rear of the Bottle Shop and enjoyed a lovely glass of various wines. A wine shop, friendly authentic service and although we didn’t order food, there looked to be some tasty accompaniments available. Recommended.

What a great night in this cool, super friendly, part wine shop, part restaurant establishment with stunning service, food and drinks. We arrived at 6pm and were given a a great position at the counter in the window, looking out onto the bustling Saville Row walkway, what a superb people watching spot. We could also see the rest of the restaurant and were only an arms reach form the simply epic team. This is a small plates kind of restaurant and in the end I think we had 5 of them plus 3 desserts. Each one was a taste sensation, absolutely faultless and our incredible waitress with the gold sparkles under her eyes (so sorry I forgot your name) chose my wine pairing for the whole evening and a whisky at the end, seriously, it was all so good. Lovely clientele, superb location in the independents half of bath, we even got recommendations for where to go next which were great too. Thankyou so much, it made our wedding anniversary celebration in Bath even better

After choosing a table the same waitress came over looking annoyed, herding us away and saying it's reserved (even though her colleague had told us it's free???). We were finally seated where she told us we'd have access to a limited menu. This would have been fine, but the appalling service left a sour taste so we decided to leave. There are plenty of lovely, friendly bars in Bath where they treat you politely- unfortunately this is one to avoid.

Amazing Restaurant! We had a great experience there, the staff were super friendly and helped us choose some great wines, plus the food was just spectacular! Highly recommended.

Popped in for a couple of drinks. Wine was great, tried the Chenin Blanc and Rioja Blanca, both recommended. Nice buzz to the place too. Service was great, especially the member of staff who followed us down the road for 500m or so, to hand us the bag we left behind (idiots that we are) - many thanks team Beckfords.

Lovely evening meal here during a visit to Bath. Staff very friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed the small plates and wine selection. The venue is upmarket but not pretentious, with a relaxed feel. We also purchased a bottle of wine from the bottle shop itself following excellent advice and information from the staff. Also enjoying a 5% discount off wine to take away, having dined there. Would definitely recommend for a relaxed evening.

Great wine and small plates in this lovely bistro. Setting is lovely, small and compact on a beautiful street. Wine list is great with a wide selection. Food choices limited but lovely. The service was friendly but not as attentive as other places. Reasonably priced.

Food was outstanding, though portions are very small. Friendly, relaxed service and comfortable setting in the window counter watching the world go by. Would absolutely make this a regular stop on any trip to Bath - we had a lovely and delicious relaxed afternoon there. Deserts were unique and exceptional.

I had gone to the Beckford Bottle shop with my wife and friends to celebrate a birthday and we were attracted by the opportunity to sample both good wine (the location is a restaurant and wine shop) and good food. The style is small shared plates but offered a variety of interesting options including a platter of salami and cheese to start, as well as small dishes of Courgette fritters (excellent), asparagus, celeriac, chaps and venison. The fact that they have a wide variety of wines, many of which are available by the glass also results in a great culinary experience. Everything was very impressive, if you are looking for a comfortable meal of high quality it is worth consideration.
