We ate at this pub two nights running, we didn't stay over. The atmosphere is brilliant. Comfy seating in the bar area, a mix of wing backed chairs, bench seating, bar stools and wooden dining chairs. Very pet friendly and relaxed. Staff are friendly but professional, service is great. The beer and wine is excellent. Food was well priced, and very tasty. At one meal we had a two year old with us. The food for her was great, and she was very much part of the event. We stay locally specifically to visit this pub, when we are in the area. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Attended this village pub after visiting the area with friends and our children - we were shocked by the unwelcoming and condescending reception we received from the landlord who seemed to take an instant dislike to our group. He was rude and unhelpful and will most likely reply to this, commenting on the behaviour of our children, who did nothing more than play in the garden with some plastic plants. Sarcastic when asked about non-alcoholic drinks, dismissive when we requested bar snacks and chips and threatened to “kick us out” if our children ate an apple on his premises. When we explained at the end how disappointed we were with the service we received he was aggressive and defensive and asked us to leave. I’m sure the food is lovely but the landlord is not. Beware if you’re thinking of going with children!

Had a lovely afternoon in the pub, lovely selection of beer and wonderful food. It was partly ruined by a very rude cyclist who after being asked nicely by the staff not to eat his own food on the property kicked up a stink. Travelogues say that our publicans are the rudest in Europe. This place levels up on the unfriendliness gauge. The landlord and cook seemed like very unhappy people which I’m sad about but I can’t spend money with people like this. We won’t be back

Was here for a lovely birthday drink with my family and mum celebrating her birthday, which was tarnished by some men in Lycra. They were politely told by the landlord not to eat their own food at the pub, and having done so, they’ve obviously taken umbridge and left a poor review. How petty. The lycra clad guy, when challenged said, “It’s a shame, I’m a travel writer,” insinuating they’d leave a poor review, and here we are, having had one of the group done so. Don’t try and destroy someone’s livelihood by leaving a bad review, just because you got pulled up on something, particularly after your group had said they liked the food and drink. It’s just spiteful. My eleven year niece was ashamed. Great pub, amazing food, great location!

Fabulous overnight stay on our way home from Cornwall. Our room was well appointed and spotlessly clean. Huge bed, fluffy white towels and large shower. Our evening meal was selected from a very varied menu based on locally sourced ingredients and was wonderful. Breakfast was exceptional. Unfortunately we stayed for one night only and not many more as this place is a little gem . We stayed in a purpose built room outside the pub in the courtyard. The outside of the pub is very pretty with outside lighting giving atmosphere. Inside is the same . Staff are very friendly and helpful, we had our evening meal on site which was exceptional. The room was clean and had everything you'd need . The village is small but has a lovely church and pleasant views .

This was supposed to just be a simple overnighter while visiting an event nearby…. Having eaten there on a Saturday night, this meal WAS the event! The food was just sensational - not just good pub grub, this was really, really, really good. The pub is just great - picturesque, traditional, no nonsense, quality local beer, cider and drink selections. Flagstone floor, well loved good seating with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It not a large space, but that makes it feel ‘proper’ as a pub! The accommodation is comfortable, well appointed and has all you need. You might want an eye mask if you favour a lay in of a morning (velux windows with no blinds) but that wasn’t an issue for us at all. Now, onto the food… It’s beautifully ‘simple’, honest and utterly delicious. When I say simple, I mean in the best way, full of flavour and each element expertly handled. Everything was beautifully and skillfully made with great care to create beautiful flavours all round. There’s evident pride in the sourcing and use of the best of local ingredients. Best meal I have had this year - easily. Find a reason - go there & have a fabulous time

Disappointed by the food after all the reviews. We’d been to Butcombe pubs before and found the standard high so was expecting more. My starter was pretty tasteless - for a panzanella the tomatoes should be ripe and tasty not watery and bland. The main course was ok but not any better than that. It’s a quirky pub but we were all alone so there was no atmosphere

If you're looking for accommodation quite literally 'away from it all' then this would definitely be the place for you. Located within driving distance of Wells, Bristol & Bath, but a million miles away from their hustle and bustle. There is the pub, a village church, small village green, post box, telephone box - and that's about it. We stayed on Saturday night of this May Bank Holiday weekend, and really enjoyed our stay. Having checked their dinner menu out online before visiting, was gutted to discover they were only doing a five course taster meal that evening. However, it means we have a great reason to revisit and stay on another occasion. Breakfast the following morning was perfect. Our room was located on the pathway leading to the pub's entrance, with our own seat and chairs provided outside. Drinks and bar snacks were sensibly priced. The room itself was more than sufficient, but not particularly large, and due to its location you will hear noise from the pub and the sounds of people leaving at the end of the evening. Wonderful value for money, especially as breakfast was included in the price. Dog friendly too for those interested.

Superb pub & B&B! 2 night stay early March as visiting the area, not far from Bristol or Bath, but out of the way nestled in beautiful countryside. Made very welcome by the landlord Ian, small variety menu but very tasty with a home cooked feel. Very dog friendly, there’s even proper dog food available to buy. Compact, but well thought out en-suite rooms, with enough space for a medium dog crate if needed. Fabulous breakfast, the home made granola is stunning! We booked the pub for lunch and had 3 courses. Food was excellent. Old rascal on tap so I was pleased. Went for an afternoon walk along the public footpath. Glad we had wellies as it was a very wet afternoon and the paths were quite muddy. The room had a boot tray so we could leave our muddy footwear out the way. Comfy bed. Nice shower with skylight. We came here after a 10 mile walk on a hot day. What a great little pub. The food looked great and by the amount of people eating must have been good. We all had the Fish Finger sandwich with tartare sauce. Washed down with a pint of local beer it must have been the greatest FF sandwich I have ever had. My husband and I (both in our early 70s) have just spent a night at this B&B and we were very impressed, indeed. The small bedroom was very clean & very attractively decorated, with both tea-making and coffee-making facilities, the latter being a Tassimo machine. The bed was kingsize and comfortable with good pillows The shower room + loo was spotless and stocked with good quality toiletries and soft towels. We ate lunch at the pub yesterday, part of a large family group of 9 adults and 6 children (the children all under the age of 11) and the menu was above and beyond that expected of a small country pub and the food (which was served amazingly quickly considering the size of the party) was, everyone agreed, delicious. Breakfast this morning was outstanding, as good as we have had in top hotels around the world. My only disappointment was that the Eggs Benedict, that featured on the menu, wasn't available for some reason. The cost of our overnight stay, inclusive of breakfast, wasn't steep at all. We would definitely stay at The Ring 'o' Bells again and would recommend it without a moment's hesitation. One suggestion - if you pay upfront, keep a note of the date and method of payment as this will aid checking out.

The food was 1st class and the lunch menu excellent value. Only one word of warning as it says on the website, the owners run this place themselves and they multi task so don’t go here expecting to be in and out jig time. Go with the expectation of having long leisurely meal in a nice environment and you won’t be disappointed.

We were staying at the hotel B&B so decided to eat in the restaurant. When we arrived the landlord showed us to our table at 7.30 pm. We placed our orders for starter and mains and eagerly awaited our food as we had read the food was really good. However, our starters did not arrive until 8.35, my wife had potted crab and brown shrimp in a kilner jar which had so much chilli in it she said it was painful to eat (she can tolerate spicy food so this was very unusual). She had to leave most of it. I had red pepper and tomato soup and again this was so spicy I had to leave it. When the waiter collected out plates we expressed that we hadn’t enjoyed the starters but received no response. 1 hour and 40 minutes after our order had been taken we received our main courses. We both had the lamb and gnocchi, the lamb was slightly rare for our liking but we realise that is just a personal choice. However, the lamb was sat on a bed of some sort of pickled cabbage which tasted horrible. The only other vegetables on the plate were 3 very small carrots and a pea purée. We had to ask for clean cutlery between starter and mains. As we were extremely tired after travelling all day we decided not to have a dessert due to the long wait for our other courses. We went to pay for our meal only to find a service charge of over 10% had been added on the meal and our drinks despite the service being terrible. We politely asked that this be removed as we were not satisfied. The landlord was standing nearby but did not query why we were not happy with the service.

Went for Sunday lunch. Place was nice enough. Very old and snug. Good looking menu. Ordered drinks and my son’s small glass of Pepsi was soon gone so asked the waitress if we could have a pint of Pepsi. Couldn’t quite believe the answer. No we couldn’t as they didn’t have much in and they reckoned it was going to go too fast. Okayyyyyyyyyyy. Not sure that stops someone just ordering two or three at once. Maybe they also had a limit on that. One Pepsi per table. Same waitress seemed incredulous when we asked for a replacement for my sons Yorkshire pudding. Whilst the other diner’s ones were rather crispily overdone, his was actually burnt. Her response was Iiiiiiiiiiii’ll see what I can do. She did bring one but altogether strange behaviour. Food was quite nice. Could have done with a bit more veg in the bowl for three people (for example, I had three slices of carrot as my orange veg share) but what there was was nice. And good to be able to do a duo or trio of meat for those who couldn’t decide on just one (me). Puddings quite nice and not just the usual stuff but by the time the ice cream made it to the table the waitress was delivering more of her shenanigans. Quick it’s melting. It definitely was!

Thank you both so much and we will certainly be back soon (that`s when we can find a vacancy for dates we can lol)

The place was faultless, the pub had a wonderful atmosphere, and felt like it had all the charm of a proper country pub! The staff were very friendly and so helpful! Highly recommend a visit.

We were a family of four visiting the Ring of Bells for a Sunday Roast and sadly we were thoroughly disappointed. Firstly the pub was cold, cold enough for us and several other diners to keep coats on. The roast chicken £17 although tender was dreadfully small, the lamb was so tough it came home with us for the dogs to eat. The belly pork was the best, however the vegetable mix was poor and insufficient for 4 people, cauliflower hard. Finally there was a 10% service charge on the bill with no indication from the landlord that this was being added, would suggest other customers watch out for this! We choose a different pub for Sunday roasts each week and value for money, this was the most disappointing for many, many Sundays.

The room was ideal for us, it had everything that we needed. The shower was really good, and a really good size. We had all the toiletries that we needed. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was very good, a large choice to choose from. 0eople were very friendly, overall a very pleasant experience.

We called in here for dinner. It was full but they found space for us after a short wait in the bar. Food was lovely. The owner was attentive and ensured there was something for our fussy eater son. The pub is very cosy inside. Had a lovely evening!

Had a really bad experience at Ring O’Bells on Sunday. We came there at 12 for lunch, after having booked a table for 8 people the previous day. We ended up being 10 adults and 4 kids so we asked if there are any other tables available. They said it was all booked out inside so a few of us decided to sit and eat outside. This is where things went wrong. We all ordered at the same time and it took over an hour for them to prepare the food (a few burgers/Sunday roasts). When we went to enquire about the status 45mins in, the owner got defensive, said we only ordered 25min ago (which was not true) and that they are trying their best. An hour and 15 min later they finally brought out the starter (charcuterie/cheese - none of this had to be cooked so no idea why it took this long to bring out). About a minute later the burgers arrived as well - the meat was dry, we had received no explanation as to why it took this long to prepare the meals, and worst of all, there were quite a few tables inside that were still unoccupied despite the owner previously insisting they are all booked out. The owner appeared extremely stressed and rude throughout our entire time there and we felt very unwelcome. Not sure if they were rude to us because we weren’t local but either way, that level of service is unacceptable. If we didn’t have kids with us, we would’ve left midway through the wait. Giving it two stars because the pub itself does look very charming and is in a nice location. However the food is very average and the service is terrible.

We had a wonderful dinner at the Ring o bells. The menu was really interesting with a number of vegetarian options. The food was delicious and the portions not huge but beautifully presented. We will definitely return.

Popped in for a drink and considering food while out for a walk. Told no baby change, not offered an alternative and wasn’t about to change the baby on the very small toilet floor space, so we left. Shame because pub seemed really lovely otherwise.

The best Sunday roast i've had in a long time. Great service, food and ambiance. Food is great quality and attention to detail throught the menu including the sides which all tasted amazing. Portions are a little smaller than I would like, but next time i'll just add an extra side or have a starterm (which all looked amazing) Would recomend booking in advance as it was busy when we arrived and showed no signs of slowing down.

Fantastic cozy pub and without doubt the best pub in the area for food! Reguarly changing menu and proper draft beer. Can't fault it! We put our wellies on and walked from East Harptree over for a roast; absolutely delicious! The whipped feta starter was incredible followed by local beef & the best nut roast ever tasted. Proper wine list and full menu also available. Top marks!

Family of four visited today and we had the most tasty roast dinners. Generous portions and a great selection of vegetables. The Yorkshire puddings were huge! Service was excellent so we came away very happy. Will definitely be back very soon.

A marvellous menu with lots of good options. The fish fish was incredible. Staff were very efficient and friendly. The place looks small from the outside but is nice and large inside - and has a nice separate area for small groups.

This is a cracking place. Superb small plate dining - if you don't mind small plates. Places like this are very rare, unpretentious, knowledgeable staff, beautiful and comfortable interior design, excellent menu. One can walk through and choose wine from their wine shop and there's no corkage charge - what could be better. Very good selection of off-the-beaten-track wines. One of the most enjoyable lunches we've had anywhere.
