Family of four visited today and we had the most tasty roast dinners. Generous portions and a great selection of vegetables. The Yorkshire puddings were huge! Service was excellent so we came away very happy. Will definitely be back very soon.

The review below, written by my 11 year old, sums up that we had a wonderful meal. The food was great and as a picky eater I had a very good experience 👌 the chips are very good and crispy but especially the chocolate brownie, you got to pick the icecream flavour 😋 very good service 😃

What a great little find. First visit to the Chew Kitchen but won't be our last. Thought we could get brunch but they don't serve that menu on a Sunday so we ended up having the most fabulous lunch instead. The mussels were the best I've had in the Uk, followed by nicely rare roast beef. All the ladies working on Sunday were so welcoming. Left feeling very happy.

Brilliant place to stop before going to Bristol Airport. My mussels were perfectly cooked and generous for £10, my husbands cheeseburger was a big hit. It’s oddly located in a housing estate but don’t be put off, the food is great quality, friendly service and they even have mufflers on the ceiling so you can actually hear your companions, that attention to detail shows they really care. Well done.

I have been visiting Chew Kitchen for years and have always loved their roasts, however the last roast I had was probably the best one yet! I had the duo of beef and pork with the stilton gravy and my husband had the duo with the red wine gravy and neither of us could fault it. Chew Kitchen definitely produce the best roast in the valley!

I have been a very frequent customer of chew kitchen in the past, having left a 5 star review 6 years ago and having visited many times in between. There is no denying this place does the best roast dinner in the valley, something that has brought us back time and time again. Although this frequency has reduced due to the costs of the roast dinners increasing over the years, we still enjoy coming here for a treat. The owners changed over earlier this year and this is the first time I have visited and had a roast whilst solely under the management and chef of the new owners. I am very pleased to say that the roast dinner is still just as delicious as it always has been and would still recommend anyone try this dinner as you won’t be disappointed. I absolutely love the way they cook their beef, which is complimented by the Stilton gravy. Also their red cabbage is some of the best I’ve tried and something I was really looking forward to. When my dinner came out the red cabbage provided to us was very sparse, only enough for one tablespoon each which wasn’t what we were used to on our very many previous visits, and so we asked for more, and for some more gravy. It was a bit of a surprise to see we were then charged £3.50 for the pleasure of a bit more red cabbage, and £2 for the gravy when we were given our bill. As mentioned I have been coming here years and this was never something that was in place before, nor were these extra charges verbally explained to us when we requested extra, or was there any written explanation on any menus that you would incur extra charges for this type of thing…which isn’t something I’ve ever had anywhere I’ve ever eaten out so I guess it’s not something you would expect. So to see them added to the bill does leave a bit of a sour taste to the experience, because £20 for a roast dinner is already on the more higher end. But as I have mentioned we do always thoroughly enjoy our roast here, as we did today. And we will return, but our visits won’t be frequent because it priced more for an occasional treat in my opinion. It would also be better if the extra charges were clearly written on the menus…or scrapped altogether because I don’t feel they warrant fair charges. If we were given a fair portion we wouldn’t have requested more so it’s not really fair to then expect to pay £3.50 more for something you’ve already paid for. I would like to note we did bring up the extra veg charge on our bill and this was reduced to £1.50 but I still don’t believe this was warranted.

We really do enjoy dining here at this pleasant and busy restaurant. The food is always excellent and the service is both friendly and efficient. We both look forward to dining on really good fresh fish offered as ‘specials’ on the menu. Today we were celebrating my Partner’s birthday, and had invited some close friends to join us for their first visit here. We had, wisely, made a table reservation and the restaurant was, as usual, very busy. We were very pleased with the location of our table, and the menus were promptly presented. I was charged with e responsibility of choosing the wine and chose the same as we have enjoyed previously; being the Lion Ridge South African Chenin Blanc. An excellent ‘all rounder’; dry with a light fruit flavour. A good choice as we all enjoyed it very much. My Partner: no starter, a main of ‘Cod with a herb crust’ with minestrone, and a dessert of ‘Victoria Sponge’ with a side of vanilla ice cream. For our guests: a husband and wife. To start he had ‘Pork Terrine’ with bread and butter, red onion chutney, baby gherkins and green leaves, a main of ‘Cheese burger’ and chips, and for dessert ‘Orange Cake’ with an orange sauce, and topped with a sliced strawberry and cream. For her: no starter, a main of ‘Salmon Salad’, and for dessert the ‘Passion Fruit Tart’, topped with raspberries and cream. I ordered the ‘Pork terrine’ to start, ‘Cod with a herb crust’ for my main, and Passion Fruit Tart’ for dessert. Coffees (and one tea) were taken. Everyone commended the food: it was all so good to eat. As I said this was the first time for our friends but they are moving soon as this place will be close to halfway between our two homes. Service was as usual very attentive and obliging. For example my Partner’s dessert wasn’t featured on the menu. The Victoria Sponge was on display for those popping-in for an afternoon tea. The request for this dessert with the addition of an serving of ice cream didn’t cause any issue at all, it was “of course” when asked. We have been to other restaurants where it would certain to have been “I’ll check” and/or “Sorry we have no pricing for that”. This was once again a superb dining experience with fine food, great service, and reasonable prices.

I visited the Chew Kitchen at the end of May 2023 for lunch whilst on a cycle ride with a friend. My friend had the goats cheese sandwich with vegetable for £7.25. It was a good size sandwich on nice fresh bread and my friend was pleased with his choice. For £15 I had the salmon steak with potatoes and what appeared to be a small amount of sautéed spinach. The salmon steak was just about an adequate size but a bit seared, and the potato portion was minuscule - two very small salad potatoes that were quartered. The whole meal could have fitted onto a tea saucer. I asked for either more potatoes or some bread as I still had a long way to ride. I was given a basket of fresh bread with butter which I was thankful for, but I still felt cheated - I will not be returning to the Chew Kitchen.

Off the beaten track and immersed in a residential area, this is a local knowledge, very popular bistro/cafe you will be more than pleased you either discovered for yourself, or were kindly directed to. It has been described elsewhere as 'an unpretentious setting hidden away from view' Locally sourced food (even the herbs are homegrown outside the door) cooked on site with a menu that changes daily. Visitors to Chew Valley Lake, who, appreciate a calmer, more refined dining experience, will appreciate this venue, well away from the frenetic activity that often occurs closer to the water.

After a good 90 minute walk around nearby Chew Valley Lake and Bishop Sutton we arrived here at 13:40, having reserved a table for 14:00 for lunch. We had visited before, back in June 2021 and did enjoy our meal on that occasion, so we had promised to ourselves we would revisit, and that turned out to be today after nearly 18 months. The fish served here (often as a ‘special’) is renowned for it’s quality, and thus we had decided that was what we really wanted. The problem was that the Mussels and the Haddock & Chips were both main plates. Then I had a great idea; we would order one plate of mussels to share as our starter (and substitute bread for the fries), and then have a main each of the Haddock and Chips; my partner concurred. On enquiry with the manager we were told “Of course you can”. I then ordered what turned out to be a really excellent wine: a South African Chenin Blanc called ‘Lion Ridge’. It had a very pale colour, giving an aroma of crisp green-apples, very zesty and superbly dry. My original medium glass soon disappeared, and the second one didn’t last long either. At £4.80 for the 375ml glass this was great value, and perfect for our fish starter and mains. My Partner was driving so didn’t join me. The mussels were simply superb and the cooking liquor (i.e. the sauce) was just sublime. There wasn’t enough bread to soak it all up, but soup spoons had been provided, so we ‘really shared’ this mussel pot. We could have asked for more bread (baked in an independent bakery in east Bristol), but we still had a main course to come. The portion of mussels was generous as a main, and ideal as a starter for two. As I sit and type this my mouth is watering with the thought of eating this dish now, especially the vibrantly tasty sauce. Our mains were also very good, the (thankfully deskinned) fish was ultra fresh and delicate and the batter was crispy and also delicate. The tartare sauce was perfect. The chips (thankfully not a huge portion) were chunky and had good quality. The peas were most satisfactory. It was an excellent main and very much enjoyed; plates were cleared and appetites were sated. Sadly, we had no room for a dessert. This is a most pleasant eatery to visit, with good carparking, warm inside, attractive presentation and most welcoming. The food was skilfully cooked and well presented. We enjoyed a good banter with the manager and her colleague who was also very pleasant and efficient. The restaurant was almost empty from the lunchtime rush, so our banter didn’t bother other clients. Exemplary service was provided from arrival to departure, and we did so-enjoy the whole experience. We will look forward to returning and we will not be leaving it another 20-odd months before doing that. I also expect I will be driving!!

The scallops melted in my mouth. The bread was fantastic! The pecan tart was amazing…this was my first Tasting Menu experience. I highly recommend The Elder! Excellent 👏🏾👏🏾

Even though I only had a starter, I have to give a 5 star to this restaurant!! I planned my trip in Bath and reserved this spot far ahead. However, I fell sick right on the day and had little appetite. The restaurant was really understanding and they made me feel welcomed regardless. Was sad that their fish soup was out but their tomato soup was also delicious and made me feel better. There is also complimentary bread and butter. Don't know if I will be back in Bath in the future, but if I do, I will definitely give them another try.

Nice friendly locals pub, in the wilds of somerset, yes the grass will be growing up the middle of the road as you seek to find it but its a gem worth seeking out. Really good food and well kept beer

Such a good experience, go here for the superb high tea, the tea of course is great with a selection of endless refills. The food is really good too. You get to listen to a piano.
