Smiths Brasserie - Smiths Wapping

St Katharine's and Wapping, Tower Hamlets
17/12/2020: Glad that Smiths now have a takeaway menu. Great value the food was just as good as when I have eaten in.....
12/12/2020: I booked this restaurant as a treat for my husband and I after lockdown and I was so looking forward to it. We were escorted to a table in a busy walkway of the restaurant and I immediately objected. The front of house gentleman then sat us opposite the swinging kitchen doors and gave me a look of sheer hostility. We sat there for a short moment whilst my darling husband made the best of the situation, but I was devastated as I watched empty tables around me right by the windows with gorgeous views and endured kitchen staff bustling through the doors every couple of seconds. It’s not in my nature to complain, but as one of the senior staff walked by I pleaded and said we’d come such a long way and after a little hesitation he was so sweet and moved us to a window view. The food was delicious and the service was lovely. As we were leaving, I saw another black couple sat in a dreary area of the restaurant with no ambience whatsoever.

The Victoria

Hyde Park, City of London,Westminster
13/12/2020: The best pub for Sunday roast & Excellent service received by Abi during our visit. Abi was a great host and very welcoming. Highly recommended.
31/10/2020: Was in London for the day meeting my best friend, who said we just had to visit here - her favourite London pub - if we had the opportunity. So I did, and wow - what a gorgeous pub it is in every way. I had the Nut Roast ( I am neither Vegetarian or Vegan, just not really a meat fan ) and it was beyond superb, beautifully cooked and a lot of subtle extra flavours that I would not expect outside a multi-Michelin star establishment. ( Even the gravy had something "extra", I am convinced ) The red cabbage was out of this world too. The pub has clearly invested in a highly skilled team of chefs.Add in 2 pints of superbly kept London Pride - my Hubby got me out of being "a girl" and into proper beer ages ago - and a warm and welcoming group of staff and what more can you want ? Gorgeous in every possible way, can't wait to return. And on the way out, the bonus of seeing a very well-known actor at an outside table, enjoying a drink. I was too shy to say Hello, and Hubby was annoyed to have missed him

The Golden Chippy

Greenwich West, Greenwich
02/01/2021: I've heard this is the place to get fish and chips and Oh my! they certainly live up to the expectations. A friend and I came all the way from Mexico to try it, the owner made a fresh batch for us, and it was d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s, he even told us about the different types of fish and how to get the extra flavour with pickles and vinegar, I'm getting hungry as I write this haha. A must if you go to London!!!
01/01/2021: Always lived local but haven't ordered in a while. Definitely don't regret it, Ordered 5 cod and chips which were huge, and the fish was perfectly crisp! The people were lovely as well. Will definitely come again.

The Bloomsbury

West Twickenham, Richmond upon Thames, >100£
27/11/2020: We order a friday take away each Friday while in lock down, the meals are so filling we haven't managed to eat all our meals as of yet. You get a taste and fill meals.
13/11/2020: Visited on a Sunday with the family. Social distancing was strict and table service was amazing. Lovely friendly staff and food was amazing. Great local pub/restaurant. Highly recommended

Clapham Town, Lambeth, 45-60£
18/12/2020: I spent my birthday here and I could not choose a better place.Let me start saying that covid 19 is not a problem, they take all the right measures to keep you safe but be sure that this doesn't affect the service, you can see the waiters smiling through their eyes.Ralf took care of me extremely well, he wasn't to intrusive and he was just the best; Trust me I can be a really nightmare for waiters considering that I am a manager who works in hospitality :)When he realised it was my birthday he gave me a card with written happy birthday from all the staff in their own language, I really appreciate it.The food was amazing, there are no words to describe chef Adams and his team.I loved everything, expecially the starterDuck Liver Parfait, Chilled Christmas Consomme, Aged Madeira which was just amazing. The rest of the lunch set menu was incredible.Once again thanks chef Adam and Ralph to make my birthday so special.I will come back.
07/12/2020: A visit to Trinity Restaurant had been a long time coming so therefore I'm now delighted to say that after today I can finally cross it of my list. I'm also delighted to say that the expectations I had before were not only met but surpassed in every department as the food , wine & service was excellent. I'd seen chef Adam Byatt on the television many times and had become a big fan. Then with hearing amazing feedback from friends I have in the hospitality industry only enhanced our decision to visit his restaurant. So on a chilli sunny saturday we headed from essex to south west london. We arrived at Clapham Common and made the short five minute walk to the restaurant. We entered the restaurant and received a warm and friendly welcome before first having our temperature taken and then sanitising our hands. We were then escorted to our table which was just in front of the reception desk and gave us a great view of the open kitchen. We were then given the drinks menu to order an aperitif. We decided to order a beer and the Trinity gin & tonic which we enjoyed while look at the food menu. Then it was time to meet manager Ashley who came over and welcomed us to the restaurant before asking if we had any questions regarding the menu. On that front there was a choice of two menus the four course lunch or the six course tasting menu. Our decision was to opt for the lunch menu with an addition of a cheese course. Then it was time to meet the sommelier to choose some wine and after a little chat in which he was very helpful and made some great recommendations we finally came to a decision. We started with a some homemade crackers and a small selection of charcuterie. This was followed by our first basket of bread and butter.First CourseThis led us onto our first course where we chose the Warm Salad of Chestnuts , Jerusalem Artichoke & Black Truffle that was a rich yet fabulous dish. For myself I chose the Beef Tartare with Pickled Mushrooms & Oscietra Caviar which was absolutely stunning and definitely one of the best tartare's I've ever tasted.Second CourseIf the first courses were a delight then two more amazing dishes were about to follow as I ordered the Warm Goose Terrine en Croute with Pickled Walnuts that was simply heaven on a plate. My wife decided to go for the supplement dish and a favourite the Cacio e Pepe with White Truffles and the verdict was an outstanding success.Third CourseNow it was time for the main course where my wife opted for the Blanquette of Cornish Monkfish that was beautifully cooked on the bone. I decided to keep my rich dish theme going with the Short Rib of Beef , Duchess Potatoes & Smoked Bone Marrow that once again was another amazing plate of food.Cheese CourseBefore moving on to dessert we decided to opt for a cheese course where you had the option to pick three out of the six cheeses available. We chose the Westcombe Cheddar , Beaufort Alpage & Cromwell Bishop Stilton. These were accompanied with a side salad , small baguette , apple & chutney.DessertWe now moved to dessert where we had already pre booked the Apple Tarte Tatin. Well let me put it this way when it was offered there was no way I could refuse. It came with Prune & Armagnac ice cream that really complimented the tarte and of course some cream. I have to say it was absolutely delicious. So that's it and after finishing with tea & coffee our first visit to Trinity had come to an end. The food from Adam and his talented chefs was amazing as every dish was just bursting with an abundance of flavour , the sommelier was very good and the wines he recommended were perfect , the service led by manager Ashley was excellent as everyone was so friendly & professional. So it will now come as no surprise when I say that I would highly recommend a visit which is something I will definitely be doing again in the new year.Thank You Adam , Ashley and all the team for a fantastic lunch and look forward to seeing you all again soon.#SupportHospitality

Clerkenwell, Islington, 20-30£
17/12/2020: But if you are gluten and dairy free , it is so good to look at a wide ranging menu and be free to choose. Service, food, ambiance all very good and its a reasonable price.
14/12/2020: This is the second time we have been to this lovely restaurant and both times have been excellent. From the friendly great service to the truly excellent food, this is a real gem and I would highly recommend it. Thanks and looking forward to our next visit !

St James's, City of London,Westminster
11/12/2020: We dined on a Tuesday evening and the place was full of very happy, well fed diners. Fantastic service and brilliant well cooked British style food. Although expensive I would recommend the cheese soufflé and the Dover Sole which was sublime. Can't wait to go back.
09/12/2020: Everything perfect. What can you say? Faultless service and food. Moments after lockdown ended, a full restaurant and a great experience. Please keep going!

Whyte & Brown

West End, City of London,Westminster, 20-30£
29/10/2020: Wandered into courtyard on tuesday lunchtime to find a place to eat lunch with two teenagers, a vegetarian and meat eater! This is the place. Service fabulous having to deal with our many requests ‘ can you put the relish and slaw on the side of the burger? Can you add chicken to the ceasar salad? ‘ All dealt with by waitress with a smile - really great location and food standard great - chef should be congratulated. Will defo return again go find it in this cute courtyard.

The Clink Restaurant

Brixton Hill, Lambeth
20/09/2020: Ordered our meals and had them delivered ready to warm when we were ready. Worked really well and delicious food.

Simpson's in The Strand

St James's, City of London,Westminster, <20£
08/11/2020: Back in January 2020 we went to simpsons in the strand London for my wife’s Nan 90th birthday. The place was amazing I felt really special there. We first sat upstairs in a bar area and they came up to us to ask us what we wanted to drink and were very polite. We then proceeded downstairs to the main room for our dinner, the hall was amazing to look at and again the staff were brilliant friendly and looked after us very well. We were lucky enough to be sat next to the grand piano so in the background we had some beautiful music playing while eating and talking. The food was excellent and went down a treat . This is a place I would recommend highly to visit and we will be visiting again as soon as possible. A great meal out .
No podemos esperar a volver.

Launceston Place

Queen's Gate, Kensington and Chelsea, 60-100£
16/12/2020: Our table was booked for 6 pm, we arrived at 5:35 pm and were treated with disscontempt. We were shown to a table and ordered our meal. at no point did anyone mention anything regarding track and trace. The menu is hard to interpret with us and several of the tables close by having to ask the maitre d’ what certain items consisted of. Maitre d’ then asked us to keep the noise down and because we didn’t lower our laughing to what he felt was an acceptable level he then refused to serve us any more drinks and was very rude, abrupt and quite frankly it ended our night on a terrible tone. Quite frankly I would not recommend this restaurant and i I would say that I have never been treated that badly in a restaurant before.I would like also to comment that the tables are not spaced 2m apart, not one member of staff asked if we were in the same household and they have no track and trace system in place.
14/12/2020: Fabulous lunch! Food was innovative and tasty while not too complicated. Use of ingredients and flavours were divine, really impressed with the presentation of everything too. From the get go this place delivered nothing but perfection, even the selection of cheeses were delectable. A big thank you every single member of the staff especially to Carlo, Nicola and Mattia! Will be returning (every day if we could!).

Cahoots Bar

West End, City of London,Westminster
12/12/2020: Such a cool bar! We went here for my bfs 25th birthday. The cocktails were amazing and presented beautifully, we even got free warm sausage rolls with our drinks. Definitely returning!
06/12/2020: We were really excited to try out this place but felt it was just okay, our drinks took about 15minutes and we felt the atmosphere was not that great. Worth a try though because the scenery is pretty cool

Pellicci E

Bethnal Green South, Tower Hamlets
04/11/2020: Lovely big fry up for £8.50 all fresh and tasted homemade! So much flavor in the sausage. Coffee was so tasty like it was made by somebody who knew what was doing. Got talking to a few of the staff all so welcoming and smiley despite being busy they all took time to speak to you and make you feel like regulars! Couldn’t recommend more. Help out this great cafe and pay then a visit!!
26/10/2020: It’s gone down a lot since the Days of Ron snd reg . Silly prices now but they can charge what they like as its a tourist attraction . If you see the film legend there’s some good shots on the inside . Anyway not on my bucket list till they pull themselves together as it used to be great . I think they will.

The Vincent Rooms

Aldersgate,Cheap, City of London,Westminster
12/12/2020: Fantastic lunch with Michelin star food and service at pub price. Great experience, lovely food and people.
11/12/2020: Almost a year to the day since the last time, we are back, this time at the Brasserie instead of the Escoffier. Situated in the hall, the decor is functional but pleasant enough and there had been an effort to dress it up for Christmas. Covid precautions are impeccably implemented. There is no doubt that you are in a classroom not a restaurant. Don't let that put you off - its great what these students and their teachers do. Our server was Tia (hope I spelled that right) and she was friendly and attentive. Service was very prompt - I won't say rushed as we were never pressured but we did end up asking for some time to choose dessert simply to give ourselves some breathing room. In a commercial place I would suspect they were trying to turn the tables but here I think it was just exuberance. The food was the usual high standard. Starter of poached pear and blue cheese salad was enjoyed by both of us. Dining companion had the classic turkey and all the trimmings. I had the root vegetable strudel which was beautifully presented and enjoyable. The chocolate mousse for dessert was nice but we both found it too sweet for us and thought the cream was a step too far - but we chose it instead of the cheese board because we wanted to have something prepared by the kitchen.Value is great for the level of food and service: the bill came to about £90 for 3 courses each and a bottle of wine.Snags: they forgot to offer us bread before the starters arrived, rectified before we had even thought to notice the absence. And my mousse was missing the tiny star shaped shortbreads as advertised - only spotted by us half way through eating it. None of which detracted in anyway from the experience. It cannot be said enough that this is a great place that needs support to enable these students to progress. Go if you can, it's a gem. I hope that 2021 is a better year for the hospitality sector and that we are back much sooner than next Christmas.

Hawksmoor Seven Dials

St James's, City of London,Westminster
07/12/2020: The food here is amazing. Absolutely loved everything about it. The shakey Steves Ginger brew cocktail is also amazing. Then there are the deserts which are next level. Couldn't recommend this place enough.
05/12/2020: I've been for the 2nd time at this restaurant. The food is amazing! I took the corn fed chicken, and it was delicious and well prepared. The staff is friendly and took care of the covid restrictions. My only problem was that it is a bit noisy, but this depends mostly on the people from the other tables, not the restaurant itself. Anyway, I recommend this place!
