I had an amazing lunch here in the cafe, great vegetarian food and it inspired me to book the downstairs place for my daughter's party. It was a fantastic party - thoughtful, fun entertainer, amazing food, and helpful little additions like an awesome dressing up box and great party bags. The staff couldn't have been more attentive and interested and lovely. I would highly recommend the Ship for a party, plus it's such a vital resource for the local community that I am very happy to support.

My event production company Lyrix Organix wanted to host our live music & art exhibition event in an unusual flexible space to support local business. We couldn't be any happier with The Deep (the basement space). The beautiful stage was intimate and unplugged music carried well in the acoustics. We had to be creative with lighting by the stage - but lighting in the main area was bright and worked really well for artwork. Staff were lovely, attentive and really cared about the space. We were delighted to support Hackney Pirates and would recommend creative event producers to check out this space!

We could even smell the teas before ordering and the cakes for afters were dreamy too.Simply a brilliant place to be in, so uber funky and unique. I seldom write reviews (and read them even less), but this highly original and friendly place prompted me to scribble down a few words. And the few words are "amazing", "convivial", "excellent" and "thoroughly original".There simply isn't another place like this where the food is excellent (and the coffee even better), the atmosphere is unique and everything is just a lot of fun. Apart from the highly authentic curved walls, there are hidden passages, spyholes, fortune-telling phones and all kinds of stuff to keep adults and kids amused. It is not possible to really describe it so this is a place you need to visit to understand why it is so much fun and full of character. The people running the place are so nice and friendly and it made London such a pleasure after several disappointing places recently.

My son had his 6th birthday party on Saturday at The Ship of Adventures and it was wonderful. The staff were kind and attentive from the off and made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. It is a great space for a party - plenty of room for the kids to run around as well as the stage area for them to perform and play under the guidance of the excellent children's entertainer, James that Hackney Pirates recommended. The fact that there were tea and coffee making facilities there as well was great - enabling us as hosts to look after the parents. Everyone, child and adult had a great time and were incredibly impressed by the venue, the staff and the food.

Stumbled across this cafe en route to lunch and stopped by for tea after. A lovely shop front with really welcoming and smiley staff (who were incidentally volunteers). Ordered a decent matcha green tea latte. I was most impressed about how child friendly this place is and its clear investment into the community. My friends and our young sons were invited to join a toddler storytelling event; we heard some lovely stories written by primary school children who were doing a run through before their CD recording! All really unexpected but so rewarding for a quick drop in! I also ended up buying a pirate sticker book on the way out...

Myself and a fellow student went along to this place for a catch-up over a light lunch and coffee, having stumbled across it on trip advisor. I'm fairly certain we weren't the target market but we loved it nonetheless! We were told it is a café aimed at children - they also offer some form of tutoring after schools - but we loved the theme, food and service! We visited on a Saturday morning when the café was very quiet - we were the only eating customers (the café is also a shop) but the café is quiet small so we didn't feel awkward (as such I wouldn't recommend coming with a big group as the café probably couldn't cater for more than 20 at any given time). At first glance the café seemed like one of those expensive art and craft places you get in obscure tourist-filled villages - as my friend described them, the type of place that "charges you £20 to make a key-ring for which you had already bought the parts". As such it seemed extraordinarily out of place in the middle of Hackney, and seemed to exist in it's own little world. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that this was not the case, and that we had entered a reasonably priced café run by friendly staff and is a charity in it's own right where profits go towards educating the young in Hackney that need it most.We each ordered lunch - for £5.50 I was able to have a tasty ham and mozzarella toastie and a small pot of tea (equivalent to about 3 full cups), which isn't going to win any awards in terms of price, but in London it's hardly extortionate, especially for a charitable cause. The meal was delightful, though anyone looking for more than lunch might want to look elsewhere - beyond 'snacky' foods such as crisps the menu offered just toasties and salads. Later I did order a second drink - a coke bottle for £2.40. The brand was a fair-trade one I'd never heard of, and I must admit I was a touch disappointed at the choice of cold drinks. They were all 'fancy' drinks - juices and soft drinks of obscure brands - and aside from one or two at £1.50 none were below £2. A cheaper option wouldn't have gone amiss, but it definitely did not put too much of a downer on my time at the café.As for the theme, the interior was laid out much like a pirate ship. Clearly a lot of thought had gone into the design and it had certainly paid off, making the café a real stand out place o the street! The staff were friendly throughout and chatted to us when we were being served. I'd definitely recommend it to a friend - if not for the cool pirate theme alone. - and will undoubtedly return should I ever be in Hackney again.

We had a family wedding in Dalston on Saturday at 2pm. As we knew the meal wouldn't be served until at least 4pm, we knew we'd need a quick lunch beforehand. Having read reviews on Trip Advisor we chose this café as it was ideally located and sounded really interesting. It was indeed a delightfully quirky venue: as the pictures indicate, it's like being inside a wooden sailing ship. However ... the service was a bit amateur - albeit very friendly. We ordered sandwiches: locally-baked sourdough bread, with fillings including serrano ham, mozzarella, rocket etc - all sounding very appetising. What (eventually) arrived was rather disappointing: first, the sandwiches were toasted - although this was not mentioned on the menu, and secondly they were tiny! I know £4.50 doesn't go far in London, but really. The worst thing was that my son's (children's) sandwich was also toasted - again, no mention of this on the menu. Big problem, as he doesn't "do" melted cheese - happy with cold cheese, doesn't like slimy hot cheese. Fussy? Possibly. But if I'd known they were toasted sandwiches then obviously I'd have said something when we ordered. They acknowledged the poor description and made another batch of cold sandwiches for my son, free of charge.I do wholeheartedly support the charitable aims of this café, working with local disadvantaged children to help them with reading and school mentoring. It'd be fine for a mid-morning coffee, but perhaps don't rely on it for lunch. (That said, a few doors along the road there's a fantastic Turkish pastry shop where we had pudding and coffee!)

We braved the Big Smoke on a cold wet day in February and had a pretty stressy time to be honest. The cosy, nourishing part of our day where we could all draw breath, relax and enjoy ourselves was definitely here at The Ship of Adventures. Friendly people serving a fantastic yet simple range of healthy homemade food and drinks including loads of imaginative teas. There are books to read and buy, crafts and gifts to inspire and buy, comfy seats, quiet unintrusive spots for people to study, the decor makes it all feel like you are travelling in an old galleon without the swell or smell to make you sick and there are clever little curiosities all around to discover. It's all in aid of local young people, helping them learn to read and get on in life. There's a fab health food mini-market 2 doors along so you can get the bits you need to recreate what you've eaten. Great atmosphere very much appreciated by us.

We came by this superb little place by chance - we were visiting a friend who lives locally and he insisted on taking us here even though we were short on time. What a wonderful idea it turned out to be.Firstly, this is one of the most original cafes we have ever encountered in all our travels. The decor makes one feel like one is really inside a pirate ship - the attention to detail even extended to having curved antique wooden beams on the walls, complete with a hidden passage and peep holes in the framed paintings. A ghost telephone imparts words of wisdom and humour, there were lots of interesting knick-knacks on the slightly demented shelving, a real boat dangles from the ceiling, etc, etc - the place simply reeks of cool originality. But what makes the place special are the beverages and the food. Again, it was clever and original stuff. For example, if you wanted a tea, there are over a dozen little tins of tea which one can open and sniff before ordering. We don't know any other place that is so thoughtful. Regarding the food, it turns out that the very friendly Emily devises and makes much of the daily menu herself - it includes original, delicious and interesting variations of salads, crepes, baguettes, snacks, pastries and several types of cakes which apparently changes almost every day as she bakes much of them herself. We can go on and on about this delightful little place - and it was stunning to find out later that not only is the Ship one of the UK's most original establishments, the whole place is actually run as some sort of a charity. This is genuinely a hidden gem in the heavily commercialised bustle that most tourists discover when they visit London. The Ship is not only funky, it is very inexpensive for the quality of food provided - one gets a really decent meal (and a very good time) here for less than the price of a small oily pizza in a crowded restaurant in Central London. The only slight let-down is that this pirate ship doesn't serve alcohol (so it doesn't have a bar), which may be a good thing anyway - and perhaps one should come early as we noticed the place getting pretty crowded with a lot of happy people around lunchtime.

We stumbled into Ship of Adventures on Kingsland High Street because in our search for coffee and a snack, it looked cozy and inviting. We were delightfully surprised by the quality of food, the rich hot cocoa, and friendly, over the top service. In fact, we chatted with a few people connected to Ship of Adventures and learned that they cater to much younger pirates through a secret passage that leads to learning facilities downstairs. The not-for-profit organization runs an after school literacy program for children. I don't know how they focus with the smells of fresh baked muffins, cakes, sandwiches, and more coming from upstairs where customers line up for delicious treats. Shaped like the inside of an old ship, you will also find jewelry, cards, bags, posters and books for you and children. The place is great fun, warm and engaging. We'll set sail again or at least any time we're in London.

I have so many great things to tell you about this extraordinary CaféLets start with the food. The food at The ship of adventures café appears simple, but the flavors have remarkable depth. it is known best for its wide range of brunch dishes and the reputation is well deserved. My favourite treat there is one of their outstanding crepes, it is mouthwateing and simplybrialliant, with a huge range of fillings to choose from such as the soft choclatey Nutella (which is my presonal favourite) to Marmalade (which I have yet to try) for the extremely adventurous, . A host of other goodies, including brownies, cookies, and cake, line the shelves, offering something for the whole family. The shop is both clean and tidy and has an amazingly unique design with the feel of being in a ship, to help with the feel they have a real boat onthe ceiling which everyone loves. all the staff members there greeted my companions and me with smiles as warm as the food was served. We were surprised – very pleasantly – when we discovered Ship of Adventures on Kingsland High Street. We needed lunch and a place to relax and found good food and a comfortable seats and friendly interior made up to look like a ship. My wife had the serrano ham, mozzarella & olive tapenade sandwich for £4.50. I had the baked camembert with garlic, rosemary & onion jam with salad for just £6. She had the exotic Red Berry Mango Black Tea and I the equally exotic Long Black Beard coffee. Ummm. We will go back soon to try other items on the menu and spend more time looking at the artwork prepared by kids involved with the associated after-school program for local children. The place is cozy, which is to say not large, so we were also surprised to hear that they had catered an affair for 100 guests over the prior weekend. Wow! These people know that they are doing. I spent nearly three weeks in London this past summer and visited the Ship of Adventures much of that time. The frequency of my visits was due to the spectacular coffee and homemade pastries, the excellent sandwiches and salads, and the good "vibes" the Ship sends out. I loved meeting some of the children tutored in the Ship by the Hackney Pirates, a group of young and highly-motivated tutors and helpers. I purchased nearly ALL of my "trip gifts" at the Ship, because the handmade African and other jewelry and accessories were well-priced and stunning. There are so many reasons to recommend the Ship of Adventures. It's one of the cosiest, most cheerful and welcoming places I know of to sit and have a cup of tea and some cake. It's been built to look like a pirate ship by ingenious artists, and it's been done with so much care and attention to detail that every time I've been I've noticed something new that made me smile. Last time it was a picture with secret eye holes, which children can look out from if they climb behind it using secret passageways. If you are after lovely, unique presents, a mini adventure, an inspiring place to bring children or a nice cup of coffee and good food, you couldn't go wrong by going there to sit for a while among books, treasures, curving wooden walls and portholes.Best of all, the shop supports a hidden space behind and underneath where local children come for after school workshops to develop their literacy, creativity and confidence. If you're in the area it would be a huge shame to miss out on popping in!

The ship of adventures is a coffee shop with a difference. The inside is made out like a pirate ship that has been beached on Kingsland High Street. The walls are decked in huge timber boards for the inside of the hull with port holes peeking out. The tables feel like they are lashed in place as if a storm might kick up at any moment. There's even a secret passage! You could almost swear you could hear the water lapping on the outside. The cafe itself is excellent. I was served by cheerful, charming and very knowledgable staff. The cakes were far too tempting and the one I tried was seriously tasty. The coffee was very good and it had an amazing range of teas.As well as being a cafe, it's a shop selling a range of rather lovely looking crafts and books. This is unobtrusive and fun to browse.
