Home made fish cake was too much after a cod fish and chips!! Unfortunately my eyes were too big. Loved the fresh fish and chips and next time would like to try more sides. Staff was very nice and quick!

We have been going to this fish and chip shop for years , every time we visit Penzance and we have never been disappointed. Freshly cooked produce, huge portions and friendly staff. We hadn't been for 4 years but nothing had changed it was as lovely as always and massive portions. Highly recommended!

Establishment is clean and orderly; wait staff were prompt, polite and engaging; food was quick, hot, fresh and tasty. We will eat here again and recommend it to all. The cod was not overbattered, but was nice and crispy. Chips were perfect.

Always found the Pirates Rest fish and chips to be excellent quality and it's for this reason we always call when we are in Penzance, prices on par with other coastal fish and chip shops although no prices are displayed on their board but the quality was far better than one of Whitbys top reated chip shops. Check your order before you leave, we found ourselves one carton of peas short. If you like to put on your own salt and vinegar you'd need to ask as there's none on the counter.

Our first visit to a nearest chip shop we are staying near at Penzance. A generous amount of chips and friendly staff. Reasonable prices.

I had a mini Cod and chips, the Cod was more like a normal size. My wife chose Haddock and said afterwards that it was the best fish & chip shop Haddock she'd ever tasted.

Best fish and chips not only in Penzance but anywhere else in the country and overseas! The batter is nice and crispy, the fish always fleshy and flaky, the mushy peas are so delicious even my picky 5yo eats the whole tub by herself. Amazing! Edit for a shout out to staff - they’re wonderful and lovely people, attentive and if you ask for lots of salt and vinegar, you bet you get it.

This was a great Fish and chips shop and the owners are amazing.

The Pirates Rest was recommended to us, so we went on a Friday afternoon, shortly after they had opened for the evening session. When we got home we found that the chips looked like they had been left over from the lunchtime session, the batter on the cod was almost non existent and the fish quality was poor. We will not go there again if we visit Penzance again.

In the bin! So disappointing as I practically live next door and when others have said pay the money and go to frasers I’ve said “it’s ok at pirates”! Chips had grit in them so wasted… fish had no flavour… really or old oil?? I’m so disappointed on a Friday night chill and take away, don’t waste your time or money!

About 10 minutes drive from home, passing a not so good local place but worth the trip every time. Everything is cooked fresh to order by the friendly staff. . You can phone ahead and place your order or just turn up and enjoy the banter.

We were on holiday in Penzance this time last year and enjoyed our fish 'n chips from The Pirates Rest, so we returned this year while on holiday again in Cornwall. I have to say the quality is superb, fresh and tasty cod in light crispy batter with excellent chips, not at all stodgy or greasy. We enjoyed them sitting on a promenade bench. I think this is one of the best takeaways we've ever had, and at a reasonable price. They also have a small cafe if you prefer to eat in. We will definitely go to The Pirates Rest next time we're in Penzance.

The battery was nice and none fatty. The fish was melt in the mouth. The chips and pickled onions where lovely too. Nice size porition for money.

Had the misfortune of using this chip shop 16.7.22 , Soon as I walked in the old short haired grey woman Dragon - Was very disrespectful, Even laughing and joking amongst the other staff at my northern accent, Then charged me £23, 60 for takeaway cod chips peas and curry ,when asked if I was getting extra large she said yes ,which was a lie ,so my girlfriend went in and asked for a menu and too query the price but the Old woman said we don't do menus and dismissed us ,Fish tasted like pollock And smelt like Stilton, obviously the old dragon had me over , maybe the laughing old witch can put it towards a face-lift 🤣Never visit this dive again ,0 out of 10 ,the fish chips ended up in the bin ,proper rank 🤢🤮🤮😊✌

After many failed attempts to eat in the area during our weeks holiday we again decided to have fish and chips. Wow, what a good decision. Freshly cooked to order and delicious. Highly recommended.

We came on a busy day so were unable to have Gluten free Fish. Just chips are gluten free. Because the frier will be used for gluten items. I do find this very disappointing. If you're Gluten free it isn't because its not busy. Please consider this when visiting. Other family were very pleased with their fish and chips.

Visited here as we'd recently visited a chippy round the corner which had won awards for their food but was overwhelmingly disappointed on the price. Immediately received a pleasant welcome from the staff and a reasonable pricing structure for the menu, not as expensive as other chip shops in the area. Once ordered, it was a good wait before our order was ready, in part due to the number of customers waiting, but this was no bother as it's normally a good sign at a chippy and indicated that the fish had been cooked to order. We weren't disappointed, very tasty, nice crispy batter and the fish was handsome too! Chips were perfectly cooked and just what we liked. No hesitation on recommending this place in Penzance.

We were down in Penzance working last week and wanted to sample some local fish and chips (it's the thing to do when you visit the seaside after all!)This chippy was a little out of the way and further from us than some others but on the recommendation of our local colleagues we decided to give it a try, which had the added bonus of taking us on a lovely walk through Penzance as well.We ended up not only having a chippy tea from there that night, but also a second night last week.The food here is absolutely phenomenal - fish and chips like they used to make them, as my dad would say. Everything is cooked fresh to order so it isn't super fast, but the staff are all incredibly friendly and we whiled away the time chatting to the lady behind the counter while our food was cooked.The fish is fresh and was perfectly cooked, flaky and delicious when with just the right amount of batter for a nice crisp crunch that complements rather than overwhelms the flavours; I could eat their chips all day, beautiful chunky perfect chips fried to exactly the right point to get them slightly crisp on the outside and gorgeous and fluffy in the middle.There is a little restaurant space available if you prefer to eat in but as we were collecting food for others as well we took it back with us; the food was so fresh that it stayed hot all the way home. The restaurant looks like a nice little space, no frills but who needs frills when the food is this good?Definitely give this place a try next time you're in Penzance - I promise you won't regret it!

I initially went out to get fish & chips from another take away close to our holiday accommodation but they were closed so my wife noticed how clean this place was just around the corner and So glad I went here. This modest little fish & chip shop knocked it out of the park with the quality and and flavour of the cod and chips we ate. The fish was plump fresh and cooked just perfectly with a light batter not to take away the delicate taste of the fish. I believe the chips were cooked in beef dripping which added another level of richness. Absolutely superb and we came back another 2 times throughout the week.

Visited just after 4.30 pm saturday 19th of October. Ordered for a family of four. Two of the meals were haddock and chips, and I have to say its the worst fish I have ever tasted. It was very well over cooked and it ruined the meal and just went in the bin instead. Very dissapointed.

An excellent Fish and Chip shop and restaurant located just off the Western Promenade Road on the corner of Queen Street and Daniel Place, Penzance.I had a delicious Haddock and Chips and my mother had Cod and Chips. The food was freshly cooked and we sat in the restaurant area to have our meal. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

We stumbled upon this chip shop and what a fantastic find. Full table service as well, had traditional fish and chips, great portion, fresh and no grease. This is a come back to place and will definitely set a tradition for our Cornwall trips. The place is spotless and always has toilets

My wife and I recently visited Cornwall on holiday and as you do we visited a fish and chip restaurant in Falmouth owned by a celebrity chef. Wish we’d gone straight to the pirates rest as they were by far the better meal. The welcome we got was great even though they didn’t have gravy on the menu. Well let them off as they’re southerners though. If you want fish and chips at the right price that taste excellent then visit the pirates rest #ricksteinssuck

Been There For Fish And Chips On Fridays For Several Weeks Now ~Best Fish And Chips I've Had For Donkeys Years~Just Like They Used To Be Mmmmmm.

Having spent my youth in Bradford, I have always struggled to find F&Cs; of comparable quality. My search is over. The fish was stunning and the chips delicious.

This is absolutely the best fish & chip shop in Penzance - quite possibly the world! Freshly cooked & good value, friendly service.

Having just arrived early evening for our stay we decided to have a fish and chip takeaway. The fish was cooked to order and after a short wait it was all ready. We found the fish delicious really meaty with crispy batter, not thin fish with soggy batter. The chips were also very well cooked we went for a medium portion which was far too much.

Stopped by to collect some chippies to accompany our sandwiches. Great friendly service and perfect chips for the occasion.

I ordered the Small Cod (£3.30) and Small Chips (£1.50). Takeaway was £4.80 but eat in £7.00 - so I sat on a park bench in early evening 100 yards away and admired views of Mousehole and St Michaels Mount.

I popped into this little place for a portion of chips. Not only do they charge extra for ketchup, the chips were the worst I ever had, making me wish I had purchased a whole bucket of ketchup to smother them instead of one sachet. They looked all kinds of colours from ivory to chocolate brown, were all wrinkly and dried up and tasted like they had been re-heated at least 5 times over the course of the last several days. In fact, they looked like someone had collected leftover chips from previous customers and just chucked them in the fryer again. The taste was revolting, like a cat had pissed on some of them and the oil was decades old. Even though I was ravenously hungy, I ended up discarding them after only eating half. Not even the gulls wanted them.

Probably the best fish and chips I’ve tasted The chips are cooked in beef dripping wow the fish chips and mushy peas to DIE for . I would recommend everyone to eat here. This chippy reminds me of my childhood

We were staying very close and after looking at the reviews it was a must try, I have been put off Fish & Chips for several years now with establishments in my home town covering the fish with so much batter and soggy, oil covered chips. This has restored my faith in a good meal, and all cooked fresh and very reasonably priced.

Wanted a quick bite to eat on arrival in Penzance. Saw this place had seating so decided to give it a try. Very good food, thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were friendly also. Would definitely recommend and would go again if back in the area. Thank you

Found this little gem of a Fish and Chip shop with seating...lovely staff..Fish and Chips...freshly cooked...great service. Apologised for keeping us waiting...but maybe waited 2 minutes. Only thing I would say I think the chips are cooked in Beef Dripping..so Vegetarians be aware!

On holiday in Cornwall you’ve got to have fish and chips by the sea :-) found this place on trip advisor. After watching the England on Saturday my wife and I walked down to the sea and picked up some freshly cooked fish and chips on the way. As expected you can’t beat fresh fish and chips by the sea.

Friendly easy going diner good food

We arrived in penzance hungry at around 8pm. Found this fish and chip shop/cafe and ate in. The haddock, chips and peas with pot of tea didn't disappoint. So much we couldn't finish them. The batter was beautifully light and crisp. The fish beneath was fresh and very tasty and the chips were fabulous. The peas, we're mushy and complimented the rest. The tea was a good cup, strong and refreshing. There was a slight wait as the meal is cooked fresh to order, very much worth the wait. So glad we found this place.

Our B&B; host recommended the pirates rest, was lovely fish and chips. Took away to have on the promenade on a very nice mild evening. Great location, friendly staff, also recommended other places in the area that were to suitable to us. Thank you :)

Went down to Penzance for a few days from the 16th May to the 19th May, I was told to try the fish and chips here, it was freshly cooked to order and the staff were lovely and friendly, the food was so good I went there each evening, would recommend this place.

After a recent disappointing fish and chips takeaway elsewhere I decided to give The Pirates Rest a try. I was not let down! It may only have been a simple cod and chips but it was fresh tasting, chips nicely cooked through and crispy batter on my fish. Reasonably priced and friendly staff. This place will now be my go to place for fish and chips.

All the food is cooked to order so the fish tasted absolutely incredible! Great portion sizes and hardly any wait considering.
